Delve into the fairy lore of six continents; learn about the Kobito fairies of Japan who love to eat cherry dumplings; make a paper flute for the Jakui fairy of South America who is attracted by music; and watch out for Little Dirt, a fairy of the Hopi Indians, who loves smelly garbage but also brings good luck! Full of recipes, songs, games and crafts that are sure to attract magical creatures, FINDING FAIRIES is an enchanting children's book for all who have the imagination and inspiration to believe in fairies.
Ever since I was a girl, I've always wanted to create books. In college I studied children's lit at Brown University, then I got my MFA in Writing for Children & Young Adults from Vermont College. For the past 25 years I've been editing and art directing children’s books, collaborating with authors and illustrators on hundreds of titles. I've also written some children’s books of my own, which have won awards like the Oregon Book Award, Jewish Book Council’s Best Illustrated Book, IRA Notable Book, and Simon Wiesenthal’s Once Upon A World Award. For 13 years I shared my passion teaching Children’s Book Publishing at Portland State University. And when I don't have my nose buried in a book, I'm an adrenaline junkie--I love to snowboard, whitewater raft and scuba dive. I live in Portland, Oregon, with my husband, two kids and three cats.
Fun book about fairies from around the world. I enjoyed the artwork and the recipes and crafts to go along with them. Last chapter puts it all together for a fun fairy party to throw!
This book is full of lots of fun information about fairies and Wee Folk from around the world. The illustrations are lovely and the recipes they give for foods and other items that are meant to attract various fairies really add to the book's charm. It ends with a small section on planning your own fairy party and another on flowers that are preferred by fairies. In all, this was an enjoyable book to read and it certainly gave me enough hints about fairies in other countries to get me started on further research, should I choose to look into them.
I recommend this book to fairy enthusiasts of any age.
really good book, really for little kids, but if you still believe in fairies, you will love this book. it comes with recipes for attracting fairies, and what the fairies like.
