Mermate #2

Where the Sea Swept Him

Rate this book
A fisherman and an aquatic alien Alpha find themselves ensnared by a forbidden, seaside romance in this omegaverse where aliens have taken over Earth.

Vuos Seyser’s days of getting shot by angry humans have (mostly) come to an end. The Mer are here to stay, whether humanity likes it or not. Under the fragile, new peace treaty, Vuos keeps his distance from the shoreline—until he meets Jaime.

Jaime Rodriguez is an Omega—the first generation of Omegas since the Mer came. He’s been working for the family fishing tour business since he could steer a boat. Despite a supportive home life, Jaime’s future is uncertain—until he meets Vuos.

Where the Sea Swept Him is a high heat MM alien romance with humor, action, a bit of gore, and a guaranteed HEA. It can be enjoyed as a standalone, or as the second installment of the Mermate Series.

*ARC REVIEW*

This is going to be short and sweet. It's a definite yes from me. If you love aliens, mer-people, omegaverse, or all 3, this is another to add to your TBR!

I was so excited when I learned that Jaime and Vuos were getting their own story! It was absolutely perfect. I loved going back in time to before the Mer and Humans started getting along. I loved seeing the love bloom between Vuos and Jaime, even if it was forbidden at the beginning. I hope we get to see more of them, as well as Beau and Loriun, in the future!

Sitting on my rating/full review while I think about this. I liked that we got to see the original couple and how the whole program began, but there were also some parts I didn't like as much

So glad to be back in this world and getting Vuos and Jaime's origin story - we met them in Where the Current Takes Him and they were vital in helping Beau on his journey, and now we get their meeting and their forbidden love story.

I loved their meet cute, Vuos swimming by and locking eyes with Jaime and so their intrigue grew for each other. From here they had secret meetings and Vuos teaching Jaime about his Omega heats and what to expect - their bond grew organically, and Vuos was just so drawn to Jaime. Their chemistry and heat was amazing.

Their story was not easy, and there was push back from people who didn't believe the Mer and humans should be together, but they fight hard for their HEA and it was so so beautiful!

So honoured to have received the ARC for this amazing book from Naia Moray in exchange for my honest review.

This was the perfect low angst read for December. This book goes back in time from book 1 and tells the story of Jamie and Vuos - the first Alien Alpha x Human Omega pair since the aquatic aliens decided to chill on earth.

Since you're going back in time, you've already seen Jamie and Vuos much farther in the future, which made the story of how they fall in love much sweeter and exciting. I loved the tropes, which were written without them being too in your face. Jamie is very charismatic and his relationship with his cousins was a fun addition, the three of them together getting into trouble was great. (And ok I'd be down for an Araceli x Saion story 👀)

This technically has a surprise pregnancy (it's mpreg) storyline, HOWEVER if you've read book 1 you know Jamie and Vuos have like 4 kids so it's not actually a surprise... If that makes sense. And I really didn't mind it, they're so sweet together and the forbidden romance makes you scream for them to just be happy together the whole book. I actually love this alien romance series and I'm excited for the next book.

ARC READ***
Book Summary:

When Jamie, a human omega meets Vuos a Mer alien, there's instant attraction. But what they didn't expect is the complications that come with their new-found relationship. Things are tenuous between Mer and humans, and the two face many challenges.
Book Review:

The Mer folk return in this second installment Where The Sea Swept Him by Naia Moray. This one is about Jaime and Vuos... secondary characters from Where The Current Takes Him, and takes place beforehand. Treaties between species are still being put into place, and humans are mostly scared of the Mer.

Vuos smells Jaime's omega pheremones from the sea and one thing leads to another and they get sexually involved when Jaime goes into his first heat. It solidifies their relationship. Jaime also learns secrets of the Mer through Vuos. And the language barrier between species is comical because Vuos takes everything said literally.
Not everything in this book is peachy keen. There are people who through their fear of the unknown surrounding the Mer, they spread hate and violence against the Mer and human omegas. Jaime has an especially rough encounter with some of these men and Vuos must pull himself together to save him. These scenes are very well written and full of action.

This book was an enjoyable read. Revisiting the Mer was a pleasure. The world that Moray has developed includes mythology, traditions, and an original language for the Mer. This makes the story intriguing, and definitely something I want to read again.

"I felt it fitting because the circumstances of his conception and birth were all out of our control. Yet we allowed the current to carry us, and trusted it to take us somewhere better." - Vuos

This was such a fun sweet book.

This was a fantastic prequel to Where the current Takes Him.

I loved seeing Jaime and Vuos develop their relationship and watch them fall in love.

“I believe it is inevitable,” he said quietly. “I cannot seem to convince myself to stay away.”

I adored the found family aspect too. Jaime's family was fantastic and Vuos’s friends as well.

This is a sweet book, we also have some action and drama as well that had me fretting for Jaime.

“I knew you were mine from the first moment I saw you.”

I enjoyed world building and how they taught each other about their cultures and how the program came to be.

It was funny too. I really enjoyed this

So thankful for this arc

This was my first book by Naia and I'm so thrilled I got a chance to ARC read this lovely story! For me, it was a different twist on Omegavers and I loved every part of it. Omega Jamie is a human and Alpha Vuos is a Mer. Their meet cute - uugh - so sweet! It's forbidden for Mer and Human's to even really meet - but Vous swims up on Jamie sitting by the ocean and scents him as an Omega - and he really does try to stay away - but like the good Alpha he is - he can't stay away. The current human government hasn't shared information with human Omega's - I loved Vous sharing with Jamie what he can expect as an Omega. I am looking forward to reading the first book in this series and I can't wait for more to come - as we've met a great cast of supporting characters - both human and mer. Omegaverse, forbidden love, surprise pregnancy - these your tropes - this is for you!!

Another fishy omegaverse hit from Naia.

I really love the world that Naia has created in the Mermate series. With each new book I feel like more is uncovered and it’s all so fascinating.

I absolutely loved Vuos and Jaime in Where the Current Takes Him. The tenderness and kind friendship they had for Beau and Loriun.

Going back in time to see Vuos and Jamie’s relationship grow into what we knew it was in the first book was so good! The stalkery meet cute and cave meetings. I loved every second. And of course the cute alien merbabies stole the show.

Possessive and growly Vuos was so 🫦

I can’t wait to see what’s next!

A forbidden, omegaverse, mpreg romance between a first generation omega human male and an alpha mer (alien species), a peaceful race who maintain and look after the seas. The treaty between humans and mer says to stay away from each other and any relations are forbidden. However, when Vuos finds out the human governments are keeping important information away from human omegas, he wants to help.

I loved the way these two characters were written, they were obsessed from the moment they met , Vuos being incredibly protective and Jaime being an absolute sweetheart. Throw in a bit of chaos, a few lower lifeforms, and a very protective alpha, it's had me throwing fists and screaming "yaaasss" into thin air!

This is the second book in the Mermate Series by Naia Moray. This book can be read in order or as a standalone. To me this book is almost more like a prequel to Where the Current Takes Him.

Where the Sea Swept Him takes place before book one. It focuses on Vuos and Jaime. Vuos is a merman who stumbles across a human lying on a rock. He is only drawn to the human aka Jaime. Jaime develops a fascination with the merman. Eventually the two begin the start of their relationship by sneaking around.

I really enjoyed reading about the evolution of this couple’s relationship. It felt very forbidden to me and I couldn’t stop reading.

Thank you Naia for the advanced copy. I always devour your books and can’t wait to see what’s next

This was a good prequel to Where the Current Takes Him. I loved the alternating POVs between Vuos, the curious Mer Alpha, and Jaime, a human Omega discovering his own nature. Their secret seaside meetings are filled with genuine connection, cultural clashes, and smoldering chemistry that builds perfectly.

More than just a high-heat romance, it's a story about defying societal rules and choosing love in a dangerous, divided world. The stakes are high, the emotions are real, and the HEA is deeply satisfying. A great read for omegaverse fans.

Such a cute prequel! While this is a standalone, reading the first book in the series will really help with understanding the background. Jaime and Vuos are so cute, getting immediately caught up in each other from the moment they saw each other by the shore 😭

Yes if: Getting caught up in the feels so much you forget things are still tense between mer and man 😅

No if: You really hate an accidental pregnancy

I had the absolute joy of being an ARC reader for this one. I haven’t actually read a lot of omegaverse or mpreg, which was one of the reasons I signed up for this book as I was intrigued and wanted to diversify my reading. Curiosity killed the cat and all of that but, in this case, satisfaction brought it back. This was a really enjoyable read. With dual POV, it’s romantic, funny and painfully sweet at times, exploring love, discrimination and resilience.

We follow Vuos, a mermaid-like alien who resides in the oceans, and Jaime, one of the first generation of omegas, who are genetically modified humans who are capable of breeding with their alien neighbours. A relationship isn’t possible between them, due to the discrimination from the humans and inter-species politics on the mermaid-alien side, so what will their future hold?

While it is technically the second one in a series, it can be read as a stand-alone, which I did and I experienced no issues. A very enjoyable ARC and I am looking forward to exploring other works by this author.

Thank you to the author for an ARC of this book, which I received in exchange for an honest review.

This is the perfect prequel to Where the current takes him! I love that we got Vous and Jamie’s story, I really like them in the first book so it was very pleasing to get their love story.

It was so sweet seeing how protective Vous got over Jamie 😍 all these hidden meet-ups, with Jamie’s heat and all the pheromones 🥵

The humor is spot on. The chemistry between Jamie and Vous is hot and I love how Naia adds the cultural differences.

Thank you for the arc! My review is honest and voluntary.

Where the Sea Swept Him by Naia Moray was such a heartfelt, enjoyable read. I really loved the easy humour woven through the story, not just between Jamie and Vuos but also through the amusing family members, who added warmth and charm without stealing focus. Vuos’s fierce, unwavering love for Jamie completely melted my heart, especially contrasted with Jamie’s lack of Omega knowledge, which led to both tender and quietly funny moments. Watching Jamie learn, grow, and be cherished made the romance feel deeply emotional and earned. This story caught my heart in the best way and reminded me why I love MM alien romance that balances humour, devotion, and genuine feeling so well.
