I found it weird that Jessica would fall for Alex since he is her abusive husband's twin brother. Some suspense kept me entertained and waiting for Cole to catch her. There was a little twist at the end which I liked.
synopsis: alex runs into someone who he thinks looks like his dead sister in law. when he discovers that she is indeed his sister-in-law and that she has a son who looks like his brother, alex decides to find out what's going on. he phones his estranged brother to let him know. when alex finds out that jessica is on the run from an abusive relationship with his brother, he has his first major ruh-roh moment. alex takes jessica to meet his mother, promising to keep her and her son safe. unfortunately, cole is so much smarter than they are, even though alex is ex-police. cole does have a sad back story: he was supposed to be looking after his little sister when he's 10 years old, his sister gets away from him, she is hit by an 18 wheeler and killed, his mother says "you were supposed to be watching her!" and he turns into a psycho. also, a year later, his mother walks out on their abusive father, wants to take cole with her, but he refuses to go, so in his mind, she abandoned him. also, they were dirt poor, but he somehow, inexplicably, worked his way up to being ceo of his own company with no help from his drunkard, abusive father.
what i liked: the premise. jessica and alex had promise as characters.
what i didn't like: the story. it was done in an amateur way, with everyone except the bad guy being really, really dumb. jessica believes in alex, after knowing him for 2 days. alex is ex police, who believes that his brother is intrinsically good and doesn't even shoot him (to injure, even) to take him down, even though he catches cole ABOUT TO SLIT JESSICA'S THROAT and he has been attacked and left for dead by cole 30 minutes ago. then, jessica goes to cole's house to get her faked death certificate and she spends so much time trashing his perfect house, even though she knew that he was back in the city, to the point that she is still there when cole comes home. the only smart person was cole and alex's mother, who didn't bring jessica's son along with her to meet cole, although it was a close thing.
This was okay the suspense of if Cole would catch up to them kept the story moving. I didn't care for the ending but wonder if she was planning to make a sequal. All and all it was okay.
It had a lot of potential but fell a little flat for me. The story itself moved at a good pace and kept me interested so I feel good about giving it 3 stars.
