This book was such an adventure to read! We got so much more introduced in this book, from new characters to new POVs and the opportunity to travel to new places within this world. There were so many surprises and revelations (and family DRAMA honey 😩) in this book that I could not help looking forward to what happened next.

The additional POVs for me were refreshing to experience. It helped to get to know the characters more. There’s just something about being in the characters’ minds that helps to understand where they are coming from. You may not agree with their decisions but it helps to at least understand. I also enjoy the conversations that the riders have with their birds. All of the birds are hilarious and sarcastic.

All in all, this story introduces another level of world building and an introduction of characters that has me completely anticipating the fourth book. This adventure went from being Ara and Tate (and of course Jared and Calix) to incorporating a whole cast of people that you just want to see get their peace and happiness. I now care about so many of these characters like they were my own friends and family.

Thank you K.J. Altair for the honor of being an advance reader for this book! I cannot wait to have the hard copy on my shelf come May 22!

And K. J. Altair did it again. Consistent writing energy is why I love these books. They all flow seamlessly within each book. Easy reading, adventurous and again a rollercoaster of emotions for me personally. I confess that from 15% to 40% of the book it was a bit slower for me but that could be I was mooding, but right after that, omg, I was on the edge of my seat.

Blades of Fire and Love is the third book in the Flameborn series and the story continues with Ara and Tate’s journey after the deadly trials, some secrets unraveling but others are still kept hidden, some deep acknowledgment of certain characters and what role they play in all these plot twists. We find out more about Lorcan (one of my favourite characters), Tynnan (interesting story to be honest and I want more), and Louis (if you know, you know).
Frederick, the king keeps doing fowl decisions and I just want to smack him to open his eyes and he has a bit of culprit when Ara ends up in the enemies hands and suffer torture and later on has severe PTSD. The anger and rage that this part gave me. Grrrrr.

We also get several povs in this book which got interesting and a new love interest between Jared and Zaza and I was invested in their complex tug and pull attraction.
We get more dragons in this book, we get more family secrets like ancestry, and again, more freaking secrets that are busting to the surface. This book is also focused more on Tate and his internal struggles (and PTSD from a secret in the past).

We have serious battle this time, a war between kingdoms and division of peoples loyalty, towards the crown and freedom. Amazing read once again. Thank you K.J. for this great adventure.

Blades of Fire and Love, the third installment in the Flameborn series by K.J Altair, is everything I hoped it would be—and more. Having had the privilege of reading all three books as ARCs, I can confidently say that this series has completely taken hold of me. It’s the kind of story that lingers long after you finish reading, and for me, it has truly become my “Roman Empire.”

At the heart of this series is Ara, and with each book, she continues to grow into an even more compelling character. In this installment especially, her strength stands out in a powerful way. She faces everything thrown at her with resilience, determination, and a fierce sense of loyalty to those she loves. Her devotion to Tate, her friends, and her family is unwavering, and the way she refuses to back down—no matter who stands in her way—makes her incredibly satisfying to read. She is, quite simply, a beautifully written character.

And then there’s Tate. From the very beginning, he has been a standout, and this book only reinforced why. He is the kind of character who continues to prove his worth—not just through words, but through his actions. Watching him do everything in his power to support Ara, to stand beside her, and to be there for her in every possible way made me fall for him all over again. He has consistently been a highlight of this series, and this book is no exception.

One of the aspects I especially appreciated in this installment was the inclusion of additional POVs. Characters like Jared, Zaza, and Darren brought new layers to the story, adding depth and expanding the world in a way that felt natural and engaging. These perspectives enriched the narrative and made the unfolding events feel even more impactful.

The plot itself delivers exactly what readers of this series have come to expect—high stakes, emotional moments, and well-executed twists. The reveals throughout the book were satisfying and added to the overall tension, keeping me fully invested from beginning to end.

And then… there’s the ending.

Without giving anything away, it left me completely speechless. It’s the kind of cliffhanger that doesn’t just make you want the next book—it makes you need it. I found myself lingering on those final pages, almost unwilling to accept that it was over, hoping for just a little more.

Overall, Blades of Fire and Love is a powerful continuation of an already incredible series. It builds on everything that made the first two books so engaging while raising the emotional stakes even higher. This is a series that continues to deliver, and I am more than ready (and slightly desperate) for what comes next in book four.

As an ARC reader, I’m incredibly grateful to have experienced this story early. It’s one I won’t be forgetting anytime soon.

‘Blades of Fire and Love’ by K.J. Altair 📚

This is the third book in the Flameborn series and it was brilliant. I am so invested in this story and these characters that I never want the story to end.

The book picks up where the last one ended and Ara and Tate are once again thrown into a whirlwind of drama.

Ara is in dire need of help against the crown and Tate is doing everything he can to save her against the clock. Ara faces a bleak situation due to the decisions of others which then makes Tate risk treason and war all in the name of love. It’s riveting!

This book also had more POVs and it was fantastic to get more characters input, especially since they have been favourite characters from the first book.

Great story, great writing and a fantastic time all round. I can’t wait for the next book!
Thank you to the author for this ARC read, I am beyond grateful.

Yeesh! I think I held my breath throughout most of this book. KJ, once again, had me on the edge of my seat with the twists and turns. That cliffhanger….I mean, is it greedy to want book four before book three has officially released. I love the found family. I love the development of the plot and the characters. I am fully invested in each and every one of them. I am so grateful to be part of this ARC Flight.

I read this as an ARC, I genuinely don’t know what KJ Altair puts into these books, but I am hooked from page one every single time.

Blades of Fire and Love, the third book in the Flameborn series, was absolutely phenomenal. It delivered everything I want in a fantasy, magic, high-stakes action, dragons, phoenixes, a touch of spice, and of course Ryder’s and birds (which I’m still completely obsessed with!).

Ara and Tate were incredible in this instalment, and I loved how their story developed alongside some brilliant side plots that added so much depth to the world. The pacing was perfect, I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, heart racing, completely immersed. I could visualise every scene so vividly, it felt like watching a movie in my head.

This series is pure escapism at its finest.

My only complaint? I now desperately need book 4… immediately!!!

I laughed, I got angry, I fell in love, I was overly sad, I was nervous, anxious… ALL THE THINGS! And STILL I need more! KJ Altair has done an amazing job at world building, character building, character development and I truly enjoyed every single moment!

:✿˚⋆ SPOILER FREE REVIEW *:✿˚⋆

After the cliffhanger at the end of book two, I was *desperately* waiting for this third installment so I could finally get some answers — and it truly could not have arrived soon enough. While I’ve loved every book in this series so far, this one comes in as a very close second to book one for me.

— Plot —

Although we do get some progression in the overall storyline, I do feel like this installment focuses less on major plot advancement and more on reconciling the events of the previous books. Most of the larger developments happen toward the final quarter of the book, which had me flying through pages without stopping.

And I don’t mean that negatively at all. This slower unraveling felt necessary before diving into the final stages and conclusion of the series. It gave the story room to breathe while still building anticipation for what’s to come.

— Characters —

Being the third installment in a four-book series, most of the core characters are already well established, but I really appreciated the emotional growth and maturity we get to witness here. Both the main and secondary characters continue to gain depth, and their development felt very natural throughout the story.

We’re also introduced to a few new characters who play important roles in unfolding the larger narrative. They help shed light on past events while also setting the stage for future ones. I think this installment especially highlighted how much the core cast has evolved since book one.

— Worldbuilding —

At this point in the series, most of the foundational worldbuilding has already been established, but we still get to explore a few new locations along with deeper clarification surrounding the magic system, bloodlines, races, and lore. A few new creatures/beasts were also introduced, which added even more depth and richness to the world.

— Relationships —

I had a lot of fun reading the relationships in this book, mainly because everything felt more mature and grounded. The relationships — romantic, familial, and platonic — have stabilized enough that we’re really able to watch the characters grow *together* rather than constantly fighting against conflict or miscommunication.

I especially loved how Tate and Ara were handled in this book. Their relationship felt solidified in a way that made their bond feel strong and dependable. The romance has reached that stage where you no longer question whether they’ll survive what’s ahead — you just know their connection is strong enough to withstand it.

We also get a few new relationships — or hinted future relationships — introduced throughout the story, much like in the previous book, which is something I always love seeing in longer fantasy series. And honestly? I’m especially excited about the ones teased in this installment because the potential is so good.

— Writing —

The writing remained consistent with the previous books, if not even stronger. I did not noticed any major pacing issues, inconsistencies, or distracting grammatical/syntax errors while reading, which made the experience feel very smooth and immersive.

— Cliffhanger —

Unsurprisingly, this book ends on a pretty big cliffhanger — which, honestly, is exactly what I expected from a K.J. book. I would even go as far as saying this might be the biggest cliffhanger of the series so far, and it immediately left me desperate for book four.

— Final Thoughts —

I really enjoyed this installment and breezed through it incredibly quickly. Although book one is still technically my favorite, this one genuinely had me questioning whether it might dethrone it. Overall, I think this was the perfect setup for the conclusion of the series, and it has me so excited (and slightly terrified) for book four.

This ARC was provided in exchange for an honest review — thank you K.J. Altair for the gifted eARC.

🗡 Blades of Fire and Love is the third book in The Flameborne series, a story about a girl born without magic in a world where anyone who is not a magic wielder is killed. We follow her journey as she joins the Skyrider Academy which is her only hope to gain magic and save herself.

⚔️From the very first book, I was completely gripped by the story, the world, and its unique magic system. I really loved the first and second books, so I went into this one with high expectations. I’ve enjoyed the fast-paced rhythm of the previous books, although in the second book it sometimes felt like too many things were happening at once and some scenes could have been more detailed.

⚔️One thing I did appreciate in this third book was the introduction of other POVs. The first two books were written in dual POV, but here we get perspectives from other characters as well. I really liked that, since there were many captivating characters I wanted to know more about. However, while I enjoyed getting chapters from other characters, I felt like we didn’t truly get to understand them better -their thoughts and background weren’t explored as much as I would have liked- and it still only focused on the main characters' story, at least in the first chapters from Jared' POV.

⚔️At the beginning, I really enjoyed returning to this world. I had missed the characters, and the short summary at the start was helpful in reminding me of the previous events. I liked the book, all was going well until around 70% of it when I was't any longer in the mood for the story. I would like to say that that was because of me but it was also because of the romantic scenes- whereas in the first two books it felt natural, in this one it felt at times like everything was falling apart around the characters, yet the story still paused for romance, which didn’t quite sit right with me.

⚔️Also, there were many elements introduced in a short period of time, and without enough clarity or development, it was difficult to fully understand. Although the world-building was extremely interesting in concept, sometimes I felt like I needed more explaination, especially with new details being added along the way.

⚔️All of that being said, it was an enjoyable read, though clearly not as good as the first two ones in my opinion and unfortunately I don't think I will continue the series.

🩵 Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this ARC <3. Although this book didn’t fully work for me, I truly believe this is a solid debut series with great potential.

4.25 ⭐ 3🌶️

Third book in the Flameborn series and it’s still delivering that fast‑paced, action‑heavy romantasy chaos I signed up for. If you’re into bonded skyriders, shifters, and interesting magic systems, this series keeps hitting the spot. And yes, the romance is still doing its job, plus we’ve got a new couple brewing on the horizon.

The story picks up right where the last book left off, Ara in prison, Tate scrambling to get her out. Of course nothing is ever simple, so they both have to deal with a handful of obstacles (and a whole lot of traveling) before they even get close to each other again.

It’s told in multiple POVs, and I really love the whole found‑family vibe, new friendships that turn into something solid and warm.

My only tiny complaint? I wish there was a quick recap at the beginning of the book because my memory is basically fish‑level and I needed a refresher.

Overall, I had a great time with this book and I’m already impatient for the final book to see how everything wraps up.

Thank you author for the eARC, all opinions are my own.

This series just keeps getting better and better and I’m literally foaming at the mouth for book 4 already. The political intrigue is so good. I’m just as invested in the side characters stories as I am Tate and Ara. The plot in this book was PERFECTION. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Ara and Tate continue to face obstacle after obstacle and watching them overcome everything together has been beautiful. Ara’s got the most beautiful soul and, somehow, Tate keeps getting even more swoon worthy. Speaking of swoon worthy, JARED! Where did that come from, sir? And can we have some more?! I love their love and I LOVE KJ Altair’s writing. This book is available May 22, so you have plenty of time to binge books one and two before then!

“But just for the record, f*cking you, making love to you, worshipping you, holding you, kissing you, or even fighting with you…” He gets up and comes over to me. “As long as it has you in it, it’s my favorite part of the day.”

If you’ve been following this series, this book is everything you’ve been waiting for, and then some. And if you haven’t started yet… this is your sign.

Blades of Fire and Love absolutely delivers. K.A. Altair has done it again, and now I’m just sitting here stuck wanting more.

Every page felt immersive, like being pulled straight into the chaos, the emotion, and the adventure. The stakes are higher, the tension is sharper, and the connection between the characters hits even harder this time around. You can really feel how much everything has built to this point.

I devoured it… and I can’t wait for more

I've been hooked on this series from book one and I'm still absolutely blown away. This one has me in a choke hold. We pick up after Ara's stunt at the end of book 2 and can I just say, hold on to your hat, it's a bumpy ride. As the team divides to conquer, the story switches to multi pov so we don't miss a thing. With new characters, and a dive into the backstory of Ara and her family, this book takes a great series to incredible new heights. Be prepared for some heavy topics, some delicious spice that won't over power the plot, and an ending that will make you want to scream and cry and throw your kindle.

The cliffhanger at the end left me speechless, maybe even slightly in shock. I had to literally sit my kindle down to process what had happened and then picked it up and reread the last chapter one more time!!! It left me crying ugly tears. I need book 4 now like I need air to breathe! I can tell K.J. put a lot of time and love into this book as her writing is nothing short of perfection. Each book in the Flameborn effortlessly flows into the next installment. The plot of every single book has been captivating and I think K.J. is an expert at leaving us on a cliffhanger so that we are foaming at the mouth for next installment. Through this series, I have loved watching the evolution of her writing and seeing her confidence really shine through the story that she is telling

In Blades of Fire and Love we get to continue to follow Ara and Tate's journey. I get so immersed into their story that I feel like I am living in their shoes and experiencing all of their emotions. Their love for each other knows no bounds. K.J. has wrote their characters in a way that you automatically know that they would sacrifice their own life in place of the other. It's a love that I can say for certain that I have never read or felt in any other book that I have read. To enrich the story further, K.J. introduced other POVs from some of the side characters. Their POVs flowed naturally into the story and added another layer of depth and complexity. It made the story more personable and gave insight to past events, especially with Tate's brother.

Overall, I loved this new installment. The plot, the characters, and the cliffhanger was written so perfectly. The transition between each book is effortless and flows naturally into the next installment. I already know book 4 is going to be it for me. I know it's going to be everything that I want and need. I am so grateful to be apart of K.J.'s team and look forward to supporting her in future projects.

Wow just wow. Every book of this series just gets better and better. Tate and Ara have a very youthful love if that makes sense. The kind of yearning and loyalty that a young woman always wishes for, but they truly stick with each other through thick and thin. More heritage and power revelations for some of our characters was surprising and added a fun depth to the story. I’m seriously still shocked this hasn’t been picked up for trad publishing as it’s truly giving such Throne of Glass vibes. Do yourself a favor and READ THIS SERIES

Blades of Fire and Love captured my heart and wouldn't let go. I was spellbound the entire book. Going back to Tate and Ara's world was so magical. We got to learn more about Ara's past, family, and her magic. Tate is slowly overcoming his demons and new love is being woven between their friends. I am also slowly starting to forgive Fredrick. I love this series so so so much.

I have been waiting for the next book in this series for ages - It did not disappoint.
Blades of Fire and Love was a darker take on the previous books, but was so chaotic in a good way which really matched the tone. This book really delivered when it came to questions being answered and in some cases surprising revelations. I think many books can dwindle by book 3 but in this case book 3 was one of the strongest.

Ara and Tate's relationship had developed a lot but there were a few moments when they tried to keep the other in the dark which never works in this case. My favourite part was the development of one specific relationship (spoiler-ish) and the fighting against it along with the yearning that has been building in the previous books.
Family drama was at the front of this book and boy did it deliver. The revelations and moments in this book will definitely be a key driving point in the next book which can't come quick enough.
Looking forward to how a number of situations develop going forward. Another brilliant book, thank you to K.J. Altair for allowing me to read an early ARC copy of this book.

I didn’t want this book to end. I’ve loved the entire series, but something about this one made it my favorite so far. Maybe it’s Jared (lol). The plot really intensifies as a war looms, and the tension, especially between the brothers is at an all-time high. The twists are bold and unexpected. That ending? An all-time cliffhanger. I need the next book ASAP!

This was such a great read. The storyline is great and sets up for an incredible finale. If i had to critique anything there are some situations in the book that seem rushed and i wish they went more in depth. Some of the scenes just change so quickly and leave a few questions. Nothing to not read the book over though. It is excellent and worth every second you will spend reading.
