Thank you to NetGalley and William Morrow Cookbooks for providing an advance reading copy.

⭐️ 5/5

I put this cookbook off because, looking at the cover and the promise of “100 Simple and Healthy Recipes for Real Life,” I thought… I doubt it. 😂

I shouldn’t have.

Everyday Eats is one of those cookbooks that proved itself to me while I was reading it. I didn’t finish with a collection of beautiful recipes I theoretically admired. I finished with recipes I actually want to make, ideas I want to try, and multiple moments of, “Wait—we could make this.”

That’s the difference.

The recipes feel genuinely designed for real life. There are make-ahead instructions, freezer and refrigerator guidance, reheating information, ideas for using leftovers, and little practical notes that anticipate what happens after you’ve made dinner. One of my favorite examples was cookie dough that can be portioned and frozen so you can bake only what you want later, directly from frozen with a small timing adjustment.

Those details may seem tiny, but they’re exactly what makes a cookbook useful after the first enthusiastic flip-through.

I also loved how adaptable the recipes felt. Not everything in this book works for my household exactly as written, but that rarely made a recipe feel completely inaccessible. Instead, I repeatedly found myself thinking, I could swap this ingredient and make that work.

And I especially appreciated the way this book talks about food.

There are dietary labels and plenty of nutrient-dense ingredients, but the recipes don’t constantly moralize those choices. A sweet potato can simply be an ingredient that works well in a recipe rather than an opportunity to lecture me about why I should be eating it instead of something else. The book gives you useful information—including labels such as gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free, paleo, vegetarian, and make-ahead—without making food feel like a system of rules.

Healthy food is still presented as food you’re supposed to enjoy.

The photography reinforces that same approach. The food looks appetizing and beautiful, but also real and achievable. I didn’t look at the photos and think, Sure, mine will absolutely look like that after I hire a food stylist. 😂 They made the recipes more inviting without making them feel aspirational or inaccessible.

And I think this would be particularly good for someone learning to cook. It doesn’t just give you recipes; the storage tips, make-ahead strategies, substitutions, leftover suggestions, and practical guidance quietly teach you how to cook for actual life.

One of the highest compliments I can give a cookbook is this: by the time I finished Everyday Eats, I wasn’t only thinking about recipes I wanted to make.

I was thinking about who I could buy this cookbook for at Christmas.

That pretty much says it all.

👀 For My Fellow Cover Judgers…

I judged it. 😂

The cover says “100 Simple and Healthy Recipes for Real Life,” and I went in skeptical that the inside would actually live up to all three of those words.

It proved me wrong.

The colorful, fresh, family-style food on the cover is a very good representation of what’s inside: appealing without being precious, health-conscious without feeling restrictive, and practical enough that I could genuinely imagine putting these meals on the table.

🎯 Who Should Read?

I’d recommend this to busy households, people trying to cook at home more often, experienced home cooks who need fresh everyday ideas, and especially newer cooks who want to learn real-life cooking rather than impressive cooking.

It would also make a fantastic housewarming, graduation, first-apartment, or holiday gift. It’s approachable enough for someone building confidence in the kitchen but useful enough that an experienced cook can still find plenty to steal for the weekly rotation.

Alex's Everyday Eats will be dog-eared and splattered before long! Her recipes are healthy, easy to incorporate into the bustle of daily life, fun to have little hands help along the way, and most importantly- delicious! The best cookbooks to me are ones where I've tabbed at least 20% of the recipes on my first read-though and I think we're at 85% for this book! Where-ever should we start?! Tomorrow, that's where! With ingredients I already have opened in my fridge and stocked in my pantry to help prevent waste. I am so excited to meal plan for next week, sort my shopping list out (pick up?), and delight with my family around the table as we taste test new recipes, adding countless to our favorite's rotation! Such a fun cookbook! Those breakfast burritos? I have never seen such fluffy eggs!

I LOVED the 5 tips for a successful week! In my humble opinion, not enough people clean as they go, plan their meals in advance, or take inventory of the ingredients on hand before it's 5pm and everyone's starving. This foreplanning reduces stress and friction, setting your future self up for success! What a sweet benefit for families (and busy workers!). The section about building up a well-stocked pantry is incredibly clever! I knew I've been meaning to buy coconut aminos, but it always slips my mind in the midst of wrangling kids. Alex's organized suggestions are so easy to use as a checklist! This cookbook makes me feel like I can not only recreate the recipes given, but switch proteins and add vegetables too. That kind of confidence and excitement to play and adventure with something as mundane as cooking and eating is priceless!

And shout-out to Eva Kolenko! What a fun lifestyle photoshoot you created! The meal pictures totally sell every dish! From the Morning Glory Loaf, Italian Deli Chicken Salad, *every soup*, Thai Red Curry Shrimp Noodles, Kung Pao Ground Chicken, *the* ginger sauce- I cannot wait to recreate these meals!

Thank you to William Morrow and NetGalley for this Arc!

Ooh man, I loved this cookbook! As someone who loves to cook but now has a family member who needs to eat gluten-free, this is exactly the kind of cookbook I’ve been looking for. I needed recipes that were not only gluten-free, but were actually good. Because let's be honest, nobody wants to sit down to a meal that is “healthy” but tastes like punishment.

Alex Snodgrass has created a collection of recipes that are delicious, approachable, and easy enough to actually make on a regular basis. I loved that the recipes don't feel like you're sacrificing flavor just because you're looking for healthier or gluten-free options.

And the recipes really are everyday recipes. They're the kind of meals you can see yourself making for your family without spending all day in the kitchen or hunting down a million specialty ingredients.

My all-time favorite was the Easy Cranberry and Orange Drop Scones. I'm a breakfast girl, so I was immediately drawn to these, and the name really says it all: easy and absolutely delicious! They were such a hit that I can already see myself making them again and again.

The family also enjoyed the Steakhouse Chopped Salad, and my sister insisted that I mention that her favorite was the Classic Tuna Salad. Apparently, she gets a vote in this review too! 😂

What I really appreciated about Everyday Eats is that these recipes make gluten-free and healthier cooking feel exciting rather than limiting. There is plenty of variety for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and everything in between, and the emphasis on simple ingredients, less mess, and less time in the kitchen is exactly what busy families need.

If you're looking for a cookbook filled with flavorful, family-friendly recipes that don't make you feel like you're compromising just because you're eating gluten-free or trying to make healthier choices, I highly recommend Everyday Eats. This is definitely one I'll be keeping close by in my kitchen!

If you’re at the time of your life where getting dinner on the table feels like a daily chore, Alex Snodgrass’s Everyday Eats is the cookbook you’ve been waiting for. After years of sharing recipes on The Defined Dish, Alex heard her readers loud and clear: make it easier, faster, and still delicious. This latest book delivers exactly that in its 100 approachable recipes focused on less stress, less mess, and meals the whole family will actually eat.

What I love most is how practical it is. You’ll find plenty of true one-skillet and sheet-pan winners as well as freezer-friendly breakfast ideas to make busy mornings less hectic. The recipes that I have earmarked to try include Sheet Pan Breakfast Potatoes with Bacon and Eggs, Freezer-Friendly Mediterranean Breakfast Sandwiches, and One-Pot Chicken Marsala Orzo.

The recipes use shorter ingredient lists and pantry staples while still packing flavor. Many are labeled for gluten-free and dairy-free needs, with clear notes for grain-free, paleo, and vegetarian swaps. The photography is bright and inspiring, and the instructions are thorough and beginner-friendly. Several recipes are already family favorites with her kids, which is always a great sign.

A couple of honest notes: nutritional information isn’t included, and while many meals feel budget-conscious, some ingredients (especially in the Thai-inspired or specialty items) aren’t the cheapest or most common pantry staples. That said, the overall flexibility and make-ahead tips more than make up for it.
If you’re craving realistic, nourishing meals that fit real life without complicated techniques or endless cleanup, Everyday Eats is a winner. It’s the kind of cookbook you’ll actually use on weeknights when you’re short on time and energy.

I’m in a season of motherhood where elaborate recipes just aren’t realistic most nights, so this cookbook felt very aligned with what I actually need right now. It really leans into quick, efficient meals.

I especially loved how flexible the recipes are. The notes for making dishes dairy-free, grain-free, paleo, or gluten-free are such a win and make this feel accessible for a lot of different lifestyles.

That said, I do wish there was nutritional information included. Since I’m currently in my macro-counting era as well, that would have made this even more useful for me. (4.5 stars rounding to 5)

The soup chapter was easily my favorite, so many cozy, practical options that feel perfect for weeknight dinners or meal prep. A few standouts I’m excited to try include Marry Me White Bean Soup, Lemony Chicken & Chickpea Stew, Shortcut Chicken Pozole Verde, and the Green Chile Stew. There’s also a great mix of comfort meals and lighter options, like One-Pot Cheesy Enchilada Helper and Roasted Buffalo Chicken Thighs.

Overall, this is a super approachable, realistic cookbook for busy seasons of life. It’s not flashy or overly complex.

Summary:
This cookbook focuses on simple, healthy meals designed for real, busy lives. With short ingredient lists, pantry staples, and minimal cleanup, the recipes emphasize efficiency without sacrificing flavor. From make-ahead breakfasts to easy weeknight dinners and lighter comfort foods, the goal is to help families get nourishing meals on the table with less stress and fewer dishes.

Don’t be fooled by the title. There isn’t one dish here that my mother would have served in the 50’s into the 2000’s – some desserts excluded. The meals here reflect today’s varied and eclectic tastes. But they can be made for workday meals.

I always read the introductory sections of a book. This had an interesting, complete, list of all the pantry items needed for the recipes in this cookbook, including spices, vinegars, etc. I appreciate that. It also contains a list and brief discussion of the kitchen tools that are needed for the recipes. I’m sure many cooks can find a workaround. For instance, I will never have a rice cooker in my kitchen, but I can certainly cook rice. Each recipe has a table that indicates special dietary requirements, such as Gluten Free, Grain Free, Dairy Free, Paleo, Vegetarian.

Recipes include:
Breakfast – even the kind you can wrap up and take with you, and of course the ones that you’ll sit down to eat on a plate with utensils. They look tasty.
Salads, including quite a few delicious sounding chicken salads, vegetarian salads, shrimp and other seafood salads, and a steakhouse salad.
Soups and Stews (slow cooker, pressure cooker and stove top)
Pastas and noodles from different ethnic origins.
Chicken Entrees – Tons of recipes to choose from.
Beef, Pork and Lamb Entrees
Seafood entrees
And Desserts
All the photos look delicious. The author provides serving suggestions and surprisingly, ideas for leftovers.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an early version of the e-book.

I received an ARC of Everyday Eat by Alex Snodgrass, and it is truly lovely book.
The overall design and formatting are incredibly stylish. Every page features bright, juicy photographs of the dishes that make your mouth water immediately. The book shines in its variety. It offers a very diverse range of recipes, blending different cuisines and featuring a wide selection of proteins and cooking times. I really appreciated the helpful suggestions categorized for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and desserts. Special thanks goes to the author for including explicit allergy markers and extra kitchen tips throughout.
Ultimately, I found this book to be a great inspiration tool, but not a highly practical one for everyday cooking. As for me each recipe includes an extra-long list of ingredients, which quickly makes the dishes quite expensive to prepare. Additionally, the complete absence of nutritional information is a big minus for me. For a certain sector of home cooks, this will be a fantastic go-to resource. For the rest of us, it functions more as a cute, motivating "make me hungry" coffee table tool rather than a daily meal planner.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Delicious recipes with lots of variety. Calling it Everyday Eats feels a bit deceptive because many of the recipes seem a bit more complicated (both in time and ingredients) than what I'd want to do every day but other than that, great cookbook!

We made the Skillet French Onion Chicken with Mushrooms over the weekend and it was absolutely delicious. Since it took my partner and I about an hour of active cooking/chopping/etc plus the bake time to make I don't know that it would be an everyday eat BUT my husband rates it as an 8/10 overall and a 5/10 for effort. I think it's worth the effort... but not on a day where you're already pretty drained! We will make this and her other recipes again!

Thanks to William Morrow Books, Alex Snodgrass, and Netgalley for the eARC!

A well-organized, family-friendly cookbook that doesn’t sacrifice nutrition for convenience. The sheet pan dinners are a standout, and the Thai-inspired dishes and breakfast recipes are some of the most exciting additions. Beautiful photography too.
My only gripes: I wish nutritional information had been included, and I’d love to see it available on Kindle or B&N — the NetGalley app made for a bit of a tedious reading experience. Minor complaints for an otherwise solid cookbook I’d happily recommend.

5*

This cookbook is put together so well. The beginning explains what kinds of equipment you need and why, ingredients to stock in your pantry, and a background for the author. Each recipe features a beautiful picture and easy to follow instructions. I loved that it was easy to tell if the recipe fit into a specialty category (gluten friendly, paleo friendly, etc) and that there were storage and reheating instructions. It is very well put together and I can't wait to make some of these unique dishes. A wide variety of dishes is included.

Another great cookbook from Alex Snodgrass featuring a range of cuisine types with accessible recipes that keep dinner varied! I liked the easy to view categories.

This would be great for a novice cook with very straightforward directions - short and sweet. I also liked how she included repurposing ideas for leftover ingredients.

The photos are vibrant with mouthwatering dishes. Since I was reviewing an electronic ARC, I love that the ebook has accessibility features!

Thank you to Netgalley and to William Morrow for an ARC.

Thank you NetGalley and William Morrow for the ARC of Alex Snodgrass' fantastic new cookbook "Everyday Eats!"

I love how elevated, yet approachable Alex Snodgrass' recipes are. Easy but never boring, her recipes are perfect for weeknight dinners after everyone has been busy at work and school all day. Her newest book "Everyday Eats" promises satisfied smiles after every dinner. This book features hefty entree salads that will not leave you hungry (but make sure you save room for dessert!). I love a good bowl of soup, especially in the colder months. Snodgrass' "Marry Me White Bean Soup" and "Curried Lentil Soup" will definitely be in rotation this fall. And everyone will love her "Kimchi Ramen."
All of the pasta dishes sound great (we love our carbs in this household!); as the family vegetarian I have my eye on her "Golden Curry Veggie Udon Noodles," which actually, the entire family will enjoy--I call dibs on the leftovers. The one-skillet Buffalo Chicken Pasta will be a hit with my sons.
The chicken, beef, and pork recipes are simple and easy to follow, something I appreciate for a weeknight dinner. Based on some of my family's preferences, I think there are some new favorites among these recipes for sure. It will also be easy to swap in tofu or plant-based sausage for some of the meat in these dishes.
Some of the fish recipes I'm eager to try are the "Brothy Saffron and Lemon Fish over Rice;" "Sheet-Pan Chipotle-Honey Butter Salmon;" and "Chili Crisp Citrus Salmon." I don't make dessert very often, but any cookbook with a recipe for homemade Almond Joys is obviously a quality cookbook.
While Snodgrass' cookbook doesn't have a section dedicated to vegetarian dishes, her recipes are adaptable enough for me to be able to make meals for my whole household. This one is joining the cookbook collection!

Everyday Eats is a well thought out cookbook that has something for everyone. The recipes were organized in easy and convenient categories with beautiful photography too.

I really loved that almost all the recipes had ways to modify them for different diets. As someone with photo allergies I also appreciate when a cookbook lists the allergens with the recipes. Each recipe was well balanced, easy to make and extremely family friendly. I can’t wait to make the Thai Crunch Salad with salmon.

Thank you Netgallery for the ARC!
