Cop + Librarian =
Me tingling in my happy place.Precocious child =
Me wanting to beat said child over the head with a brick. But I won't. Cause that would be wrong.(Cop + Librarian)/(Precocious child) = Meh.
But there is a rottweiler named Bunny. Which is awesome.
And the author did a really great job of transforming the prompt into a fully formed story.
AND DID I MENTION THE HOT COP AND LIBRARIAN ASPECT?
Therefore.
Tingly happy place + dog + good writer = 3 stars.

3.5 rounded up because it's a Loves Landscapes story!
Stories with kids aren't usually my thing. Usually I find the kids way too precocious and annoying. But in this story, the plot of which is largely driven by a kid's precociousness, it actually hit the right pitch for me.
Danny and Milo were sweet, and Melissa was a fun kid.
Recommended!

Saccharin sweet, with yet another unrealistic kid who's way too focused on adult relationships. Danny's sexuality was poorly explained, and I wanted to know more about Milo. This felt very YA, but had a certain charm, and the writing was engaging.

Ultra sweet, hot, nice-guy cop dates librarian with a generous dose of precocious kid on the page and even a big cute dog.
Sweet, nice, angst-free. A very good response to the prompt.

Though the writing prompt was adorably exuberant (!!!), the picture that accompanied it felt far grittier (isn't that Cole Hauser in a skull cap?!). For me, they didn't seem to be a natural pairing, so I was interested to see what direction O'Tierney was going to take this one.
So was Danny a gritty, no-nonsense, uber-alpha, toppy cop?! Ummm... Not quite. He was more of a big, fluffy approachable bunny with a weakness for awkward bibliophiles and precocious little girls. Was I disappointed? Not in the least! He was the perfect foil for our painfully shy librarian, Milo. Combine that with a meddlesome but well-meaning kid who's actions and dialogue actually read like that of a child (as opposed to a tiny adult), and a surprisingly well-behaved Rottie, and you had yourself the makings of an adorable short story, completely free of angst and grand misunderstandings but with enough self-doubt and second-guessing of actions to ground the story in the reality of first love.

Cute, but forgettable. Milo and Danny are cute, but Melissa is a wee bit obnoxious, and since it's a short story, there isn't much to distract from the cloying cutesy crap.

I like sweet, I like fluffy, I like cute.
This had all of that and a dog too.
I'm not a huge fan of kids in books, but this one didn't annoy me and I thought it fulfilled the LL prompt request perfectly.
Milo is a sweet, shy librarian and overcomes himself and actually manages to sort of ask the hot cop out.
I thought Danny needed to grovel a little more at the end there, but other than that, it's a sugary cupcake read and perfect for this rainy Sunday morning.

I loved this one. Soooo cute!! Danny the police officer with a Rottweiler named Bunny :) He's a foster parent to a precocious 7-year-old who takes it upon herself to find him a girlfriend by posting an ad on NewYorkDating.com. The whole story is adorable and will leave you with a smile on your face!

If you've ever found yourself saying this cotton candy is only 100% sugar, do you have anything sweeter? then this is the book for you.
It also made me think pretty fondly of my own largely self-centred children, who would never stir themselves to interfere in my romantic life, thanks be to God.

This was so stinking cute! I loved Danny and Milo and Melissa. Kids in books don't bother me and Melissa was pretty spot on for her age, in my opinion as a mother of children who are too smart for their own good.
The prompt picture wasn't exactly how I pictured Danny but did that make a difference in how I felt with the story? Not one personal ad posting bit!
Danny was great with Melissa and how he put her first. It's not always easy to juggle your career, love life and a kid and there will be times you make stupid decisions even though your brain tells you it's counterproductive. It's life. It's reality and I liked that I didn't have to suspend reality to enjoy this story.
Milo was too cute for words and OMG I loved the flashback to their first "talk." I am a sucker for those shy boys in glasses and then he is a librarian? Really? Just roll me over because I am dead after that.

Short, sweet and entertaining. The story was good but I felt like it needed a bit of angst or more humor to satisfy my taste.
Danny and Milo were a bit one dimensional because their pasts weren't very well covered. Fortunately, Bunny and her cuteness made up for it.

Somebody, Nice! is a perfect sweet short story filled with wonderful characters and a lovable rottweiler. What more could anyone ask?

This was my first time reading this author and I probably won't read her again. It's a cute setup: a bisexual police officer, who has never dated a man, becomes involved with his foster daughter's school librarian, who is gay and has never dated anyone. There's a dog and an elderly mother and babysitter also - lots of potential for cuteness.
I am sappy and I like romances with pets and children, as well as sexually inexperienced characters. But this book just did not work for me. In fact, it included a lot of elements I strongly dislike.
The younger guy, Milo, is very concerned about how Melissa will react when she learns her foster dad is dating a man, but at no point do either Milo or Danny wonder how it might affect her if their relationship doesn't succeed. It's reasonable to think a child in her situation (abandoned by her mother at a young age) might have some attachment issues. Instead of anyone thinking about this, though, . This poor kid.
There was also a weird line that instantly lowered my rating from 3 to 2 stars. I'm not even completely sure what it means, but it feels like Danny is implying that girls/women can't really get along with each other (Melissa is seven years old, btw):

Since I'm complaining, I'll mention a minor nitpick: this is set in NYC, but everyone behaves like it's Anytown, USA. No one uses public transportation at any time. Danny casually drives around in his patrol car and never struggles with traffic. I don't know which borough either of them live in. Their homes seem like luxury apartments, close enough to Central Park that it's the most logical place for them to spend time, and close enough to each other that it makes sense for Danny to drive Milo home. But there's no indication that either of them are wealthy; in fact, part of Danny's conflict about the relationship is that he wants to work harder and earn more money so he can better provide for Melissa.
So overall, this book wasn't for me. It is competently written, though, and I know that the things that bother me might be things that others especially enjoy. And it's free!

What is this story like?
Hm, well, it's like eating a box of chocolates. A couple of them you don't like so much as the others-for me that's the raspberry cremes and the caramels that require a bit too much effort to chew, but they're still delicious, and they're still good to eat, because after they're gone it's down to those few favourites that you save until last. And then you savour that most delicious final chocolate, your all-time, best ever heavenly delight of sweet pleasurable wonder, and flop back into your comfy armchair, totally spent.
Somebody Nice is just like that. Feel-good, be happy. If life is tugging at your trouser legs, trying to pull you down, grab a moment with Raine O'Tierney. It'll all be better.

Well that was certainly all sorts of adorable. This story captured me from the beginning, especially after I realized that the gritty and smirky looking cop in the prompt would not end up being all that gritty, if still a little smirky.
Milo and Danny were too cute together, and I really enjoyed reading about Milo's awkwardness next to Danny's confidence. The only thing that I didn't like 100% was the kid. Precocious kids in stories can be a super annoying, so, while this one did a LOT of talking and took over A LOT of the story, I still managed to like it. Go figure! This is all down to the author's writing, so kudos on a job well done.

I don't usually like children in m/m, but I liked the premise here: that the child was rescued from a bad home situation by a cop who then adopted her.
I also enjoyed that one of the mc's is a librarian.

I SOOOO needed some sweetness in my life tonight and this hit the nail on the head. The words and the emotions and the interactions between the two MCs was just right. Milo, yea,h I wanted to take him home and cuddle with him all night long. And Danny, well, is sweet and open and honest - well until the interview thing - but nothing here was angsty or over the top emotional and that is exactly what I wanted...Something sweet...Something nice! Great job Rainee!

If you're in the mood for warm fuzzies, this is the story for you. It's very sweet. The kid's a little too adorable to be real, there's a doggie, a hot cop and a geeky librarian. There's a teensy bit of a misunderstanding but it's minimal angst and cleared up quickly. There's a bit of a side plot with Milo's mom that I'm not sure why it was included, but it doesn't take up much time. A quick read that'll leave a smile on your face.

I really like when the children have a presence, because (as any single parent knows) a relationship has to work for them too. If the person you're seeing doesn't like your kid or your kid doesn't like the person you're seeing - that spells major problems! I would love to read more of this budding family <3
