Review of advance copy received from Author
March 30, 2026
It's almost a year to the day since I last read a book by this author and after totally devouring The Game and loving it - I was so excited to dive into this new release.

This storyline was quite different - both to The Game and also to any of the other commune stories I've read in the past.

This was a complex story that had me coming up with different theories along the way and I loved how things changed at each page turn.

Luke heads off to join the commune after fleeing London and the chaos that life has become.

Nine days later, he's the only member left alive, but what happened over that time?

Well, Luke is in a coma and we have to follow the story over a dual timeline to slowly unravel the events that led up to this point.

I loved how we learn about how the commune was formed and about all the people who join - but the suspense builds as we wait to find out what happened to each of the characters, before leaving only one.

The writing here set a good atmosphere, but this was less thriller and much more suspense and intrigue.

Not as fast-paced as my last read, but equally compelling.

Another great read from this author and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next.

A GRIPPING, DARK AND SUSPENSE FILLED PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PUT DOWN RAM PACKED WITH TWISTS YOU WILL NEVER SEE COMING!!!

The first thing I have got to say is an absolutely HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to the amazing author Danny Dagan!! Yet another absolutely incredible read. I absolutely LOVED your debut book 'The Game' and this is even better again which I didn't think would be possible after how well you had wrote that!! Keep them coming!! This is definitely one of the best novels I have ever read and it is also one of my favourite psychological thrillers of all times!!! You seriously have to grab your copy of this twisty and gripping psychological thriller today!! The fantastic isolated setting of a remote commune, the tension, the suspense, the characters, the absolutely mind blowing twists and turns!!! This book NEEDS to be turned into a movie!!! This book really is an absolutely fantastic and explosive page turner that will blow your mind like never before!! The storyline is so compelling and immersive it had me hooked throughout so make sure you clear your schedules before stepping into the dark world of 'The Commune'!! The looks I was getting from my partner because of the amount of times I shouted out 'WTAF!!' , 'OMFG!!' and 'No FLexking way did THAT just happen' I seriously lost count. I mean seriously I cannot describe just how AMAZING and absolutely jaw droppingly mind blowing this book is!!! There are just no words. I mean I'll try but my advice is stop reading this review and GET YOUR COPY NOW!!! I am not going to go into the storyline as the synopsis already does a brilliant job of letting you know what the book is about and if you want to know more well you will just have to grab your copy of this gripping page turner today and I promise that you will not regret it!! With an addictive storyline ram packed with mystery, power, mind blowing twists, suspense, survival, dark characters, jealousy, lies, secrets, isolation and so much more then what on Earth are you waiting for? Danny absolutely captivated my attention and sucked me deep into the storyline. I cannot even express in words how good this storyline in and how much I was completely sucked into the storyline!! If you love thrillers, crime, unique, mind blowing, action packed books, kidnapping and .do you know what? Whatever you like to read just give this a go and you will NOT regret it!!! As you can tell I absolutely LOVED this addictive and explosive page turner!!! I honestly loved absolutely everything about it from the start to the end. It was just one heck of an amazing read!!! I absolutely love, love, LOVED the unique storyline!! I have read so many books that it is getting harder and harder for me to find a truly unique plot but Danny absolutely smashes it out of the world and further with this one!! There was no way I could put this book down until I had finished it. I picked it up and even though I kept telling myself just one more chapter I just could not put it down as every time I went to something happened which meant I had to read just one more again until I ended up reading it in one sitting having been glued to the book for a few hours!! Danny's vivid evocative writing skills and descriptions really brought the storyline to life and I just cannot wait to get hooked into his next book!!! I have just never come across a book or movie anything like this one and I doubt I will again!!!! I really hope this is brought to the big screen and if not why not? I will definitely be first in line to watch it. I just genuinely love, love, LOVED IT!!! This book will suck you in and keep you gripped in the pages until your thrown out at the end with a racing heart!! A truly unforgettable one in a million page turner!!!! Get ready to pick your jaw up from the floor at the twists that you will NEVER see coming!! An absolute must read that I wont be forgetting about anytime soon!!

OMG!!! SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!! WHAT HAVE I JUST READ!?!?!? Danny Dagan you sir are an absolute crime writing legend!!!

Do not start this book until you have cleared your schedules as you will not be able to put it down!! The characters were all realistic and strong and I was completely invested in them throughout. Danny's evocative descriptions really makes them jump out of the book and come to life in front of the readers eyes. I was completely invested in each and every one of the characters who I enjoyed getting to know more about throughout the pages. Danny does an absolutely fantastic job of weaving multiple protagonist perspectives together perfectly giving us a larger picture of what is going on but only giving away what he wants to and when he wants too while ensuring he does not confuse readers. Each of the characters all played their own roles perfectly and they all had their own unique and individual personalities with their own flaws, strengths and weaknesses. One of my favourite thigs after I had finished this book is that at the end of the book Danny has brilliantly included a list of where the characters are now and what they are doing to ensure they live on even after the story has ended!! What an absolutely fantastic idea and I would love to see more authors do this as even though a story ends, if the author is a good enough writer, the characters always live on in your mind and I do always wonder what would have happened next after you have read the last page. An absolutely brilliant and unique idea so thank you very much Danny for including this LOVED IT! All of the characters were multi layered with complex personalities which definitely made them all the more interesting to read about!!! Unfortunately, I really can not say anymore as I don't want to spoil it for future readers. Regardless of what I thought about who, each character worked perfectly to make this page turning psychological thriller!!! I just cannot wait to see what characters this amazing author comes up with next!!! I genuinely loved getting to know all the characters and was completely invested throughout!! It just goes to show how fantastic Danny's writing skills are as she completely brought them all to life for me. An absolutely fantastic selection of unique characters that all worked together perfectly to create an absolutely chilling, gripping and addictive page turner!!! This book really is a truly unique page turner that I picked up this morning and had completely devoured it in a few hours!!! When the hell is this being made into a film and when are you bringing your next book out as I need my next hit!!!

I seriously mean it when I say I have NEVER EVER, EVER come across a book like this before!! Just absolutely blooming amazing!! This is the EXACT reason that you are on my favourite author list! Keep up the epic books and I hope there is more coming very soon!

DANNY HAVE HIT MY FAVOURTIE AUTHOR LIST, MY FAVOURTIE PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER LIST AND ONE OF MY BEST BOOKS OF ALL TIME!!!

Overall an absolutely unputdownable, action packed, intriguing, unique, mind blowing thriller that will keep you up at night on the edge of your seat with a pounding heart!!

I received a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Commune is an eerie, slow-burning thriller that pulls you into a secluded world where the promise of peace and simplicity quickly turns unsettling.

The story follows Luke Stonebride, who escapes the chaos of London to join a remote, off-grid commune. At first, the setting feels almost idyllic — a forest clearing, thatched cabins, woodsmoke, and the promise of a simpler life. But the calm doesn’t last long. Just nine days later, Luke is found in a coma and the other members of the commune are discovered dead in the forest. From there, the narrative winds back to reveal what really happened in the days leading up to the tragedy. It reminded me of the Jonestown massacre in Guyana in the 1970’s with elements of Lord of the Flies.

The atmosphere is one of the book’s biggest strengths. The isolated woodland setting creates a constant sense of unease, and the author gradually layers in hints that something isn’t quite right. The tension builds steadily as the dynamics within the commune become more complicated and the feeling of dread grows stronger.

I particularly enjoyed how the story plays with the idea of escaping modern life — and how easily that dream can turn into something far more sinister. The pacing is mostly solid, though there are moments where the build-up feels a little drawn out. Still, the mystery of what really happened kept me turning the pages.

Overall, The Commune is a compelling and atmospheric thriller with a dark edge. If you enjoy stories about isolated communities, hidden motives, and the creeping sense that something is very wrong beneath the surface, this is definitely worth picking up.

Thank you to LBT for having me on this book review tour and for my gifted copy of this epub.

I really enjoyed this book. I really liked the authors writing and thought he did a good job.

We follow Luke Stonebride who basically decided he wanted to slow his life down and move away to a Commune for a slower pace. I mean the setting sounds amazing. The open forest the cabins the smoke just the entire ambiance sounded perfect but that was far from the care it was crazy. After being there for a short time Luke ends up in a coma and the rest of the Commune is dead. I mean I was floored. I had to keep going to know what the heck happened we are taken back to the events that lead up to all this which I really liked the book this way was so so good !!!

Umm ok so can we talk about how creepy the settling and just the all around area it’s isolated and I mean I get that I live on 10 acres in the middle of nowhere so I get that but this was just you felt something was just off and not right !!

I loved how fast this book read for me. I found myself turning pages really fast because I had to know what was gonna happen next and the idea of just leaving what you know behind and living a simple life is so appealing like would be so cool to do but hard. But still doable. I think it would take a lot of work but totally worthwhile!!

Overall this book was so so good and I couldn’t turn pages fast enough. Writing is so good. I know I said that but it is so true and so worth the read !!!

Go get this book!! Can’t wait for more from this author.

My rating is actually 4.25 stars but Goodreads doesn't allow for partial stars.

This book follows Luke Bridestone who up’s and leaves his life in London behind to join a small off-grid commune in the wilds of Northumberland, hoping for a better life and to find the person he used to be. Nine days later the forest surrounding the commune is silent, littered with dead bodies and only one survivor who is in the coma. The Police need to work their way back to the beginning if they have any hope of understanding what happened.

What a great book! When I picked this book up it was literally because of Danny’s name and I thought it was a stand alone thriller, I hadn’t realised that it was in fact a follow-on from Danny’s previous book, The Game. So we meet some familiar faces namely the PI, employed by a family member of one of the dead, and his wife Mary who works for the Met Police. And like The Game, this book has plot twists and red herrings galore that keep you guessing right up to the end, but I have to say that I think I enjoyed this one even more than The Game.

I really like Danny’s writing style and every single character is so layered and nuanced, and really well developed, even for those we don’t see for very long. I really enjoyed the plot and liked that most of the story is told from the perspective of those involved rather than the police or our PI. This was a great read and I rated 4.25 stars, I would definitely recommend.

I enjoyed Danny's first book The Game so was pleased to be able to read this one.

I liked the reference to Jonestown at the beginning. It's a clever addition to make you think and throw you off perhaps!!

Luke is running from his life and I can see why joining Dorothy's commune appealed to him. Seems desperate but it was his saving grace at the time.

The commune members don't appear to be living in harmony as much as you might expect and I liked that they weren't all happy and at peace. It helps build suspense and means you can't really guess who is responsible for what exactly!!

Joel is annoying and Naomi seems ok. She and Luke made sense in a way, although everyone there has something in their past that's getting ready to catch up with them.

It's a good story with a good twist to the commune type living story that many will be used to. Nothing obvious, lots of twists and turns and a good ending. I did wonder where Luke might end up and, oftentimes, we do get left with 'what next?' at the end of some stories, but this gives you a catch up to some of the characters. It's a nice touch 😊

I was instantly drawn into this book. The wee brief we get, in current day, to start us off sets quite a weird and ominous tone, and you can't help but be drawn in and wonder just what happened at the commune, especially if their neighbour thought so highly of them.
The author does a great job to drop us right into the life of Luke, giving us a full picture as to why he would want to drop everything, on the spot, and rush off to a commune. It is pretty damming evidence and I can't say I blame him, as it must have been really scary. Then we progress along to what takes place and things start to get that ominous feel again, as if someone is behind you or round the corner waiting. It is such an interesting story, as it just has those vibes of needing to o watch out for things. I liked it, as there were little details throughout that stood out to me and then I priced together.
I really liked the pace and flow of the story. The character depth was really good and the level of detail was fantastic. This all combined together to make the story very interesting and exciting.

The second book from Danny based in Northumberland and sees the return of private investigator Alex Czerniak.
The book starts off with a brief news feature that gives you a sense of what's to come before jumping back in time to build up to the main event.
Early on as Luke settles in to the Commune, tragedy strikes and it feels like an omen for what is to come especially as the commune seems very cagey about Lilian leaving and then the finding of her last diary entry.
There are so many twists to keep you guessing and little hints dropped into the story line about some of the residents pasts that make it a very compelling read.
You can sense the increasing darkness and foreboding as it counts down the days to the reckoning.
I like the way the story Moves backwards and forwards through the timeline so you can see how the police investigation is going and if they are on the right track.
Another fantastic read from Danny.

Luke needs to escape his crazy ex girlfriend and joins a commune hidden in a remote area of Northumberland. He hopes this will be the fresh start that he desperately needs but only 9 days later he is found in a coma in the middle of a forest and the rest of the commune are dead.

I really enjoyed how this book was set out. It starts with the discovery of the murders. Then rewinds so you spend time with the commune in the days leading up to the reckoning.

I loved the isolated setting and finding out about life in a commune. The author did a great job at creating a tense atmosphere, there was a constant feeling of uneasiness and you could tell something dark was hidden under the surface.

Each character was layered and had a dark hidden secret. I loved all of the twists and turns.

Overall, I rate this 4⭐️. It’s a dark psychological thriller that will keep you guessing till the end.

Rating this 3.75⭐ so have bumped it up for Goodreads. It was a solid 4 star for the most part, I just didn't feel like it had much of a thriller element to it for me.
These are personal feelings and you may feel very different.

That said, I was hooked from page 1 and was committed to wanting to know where it would all end up.
I enjoyed the way it moved between before and after the event and everything slowly came together.

Each character has their own hidden complexities and I still have some questions around Joel's life that I would have liked some confirmation on.
The truth that became evident as to what events happened and how was interesting and complex and made it a great story overall.

Danny Dagan's writing was very easy to follow and flowed really well. I absolutely recommend giving this a read.

It started out as a great idea. After getting a large inheritance, Dorothy set up a commune near Synner's Crag Farm In Northumberland, England. There would be a few select people, no phones, no solar, no electric, and they would grow their own food.

But the crops failed. There was no phone for emergencies. The only source of income was Dorothy's pension, and there wasn't much of that.

And then people started dying. Inexplicably. Not in a "drank the Kool-Aid" way. Each one died differently. One survivor, Luke was in a coma, unable to tell detectives what happened. Was this a cult gone wrong, or were there darker forces at work?

I can't say more without spoilers, but if you like survival thrillers, this is a slow-burn, very different type of commune story.

Thank you to Love Books Tours for sending me an advance reader's copy.

This is the first book I have read by Danny Dagan and I love a thriller, so I was excited to read it! The book drew me in instantly; I intended to only read a chapter of the e-book before I got a physical copy, but I actually ended up reading 10 chapters in one sitting. It has multiple POVs and primarily follows a private investigator called Alex, and Luke.
Alex is looking into the suspicious circumstances surrounding the commune. There’s so many twists and turns! I thought it was really well written and I really liked the change of POVs and getting different perspectives.

I also liked how the chapters moved between before and after the event; it was really interesting to slowly find out each character's motives for joining the commune.

It was such an interesting concept and the story was so fast-paced that I honestly would’ve liked it if the book was even longer!
I enjoyed the story so much that I wanted even more time with the characters to have everything explained.

The epilogue and the “where are they now” section at the end definitely left me with questions, but that’s just because I was so invested in the plot.

I would definitely love to read more by Danny Dagan in the future!

After reading Danny Dagan's debut novel The Game, I jumped at the chance to read an ARC of his second book!
The Commune follows a group of strangers who are brought together while wanting to live off grid and hide from their past secrets. Shortly after a new recruit arrives, everything begins to fall apart. Relationships become strained and people start dying, but who is truly responsible?
Dagan has once again knocked it out of the park for me! I was drawn in straight from the first chapter, and I love the back and forth between the actual events versus the Private Investigator and police force's perspective of what happened. I had my suspicions of what was happening and who was to blame, but I was completely wrong on all counts. I love an author that can drop enough red herrings to keep me guessing and then blindside me with the truth!

This one hits different (in the best way, of course)! The setting is eerie and suspenseful on its own. Then the characters...oh boy, each one has their own twists and turns in their stories. The writing was brilliant and kept me hanging onto my chair to keep from falling out. The audiobook was phenomenal. The narrator has the perfect voice to put with the telling of the story. Now, for the storyline. It starts out present day with a tragedy taken place in a commune. Then we go back to the beginning of Luke's arrival and all that transpires afterwards leading up the event. The story line isn't too graphic, but you know it's a good plot when you actually feel like you are there, watching it all unfold. I love a good psych thriller and this book has my heart beaming! Definitely worth the read and if you are able, the audiobook is simply perfection👌.

I really enjoy these types of reads. Dark, atmospheric, isolated settings and a mysterious, intriguing storyline. Just right up my street.

So here we follow Luke, escaping London in order to join a remote commune. Fast forward 9 days and Luke is in a coma and the only living member of the Commune, while everyone else are dead in the forest.

Want to know more? Be sure to pick your copy up to find out.

For me, the pace here is on the slower side, but that's certainly not a negative. Some novels suit a slower pace and this definitely does.

The setting is gloomy and tense and there's some great twists and turns. For me, reminiscent of Mo Hayder's Pig Island.

The characters are believable and feel real.

4 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 's from me.

The premise of The Commune captivated me from the get go. Heading back to the beginning to find out what happens within the forest. The plot unravels its secrets, posing questions to the reader; is there an intruder or something darker lurking within?

The plot building of this story is fantastic with suspense and the overarching question of what is happening. It doesn't fail in its quest to keep you engaged, wondering what is next and how everything will end. I was always on the edge of my seat throughout the story and certain parts genuinely shocked me, in the best way possible.

If you love a psychological thriller which lures you in. This is the one for you. It is brilliantly written and I loved it.

If you’re looking for some fast-paced story, The Commune isn’t what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for a slow burn build up of tension, this book would definitely be your cup of tea. I happen to like both types, so I really enjoyed this one. I like how it starts with present day but then goes back to 8 days before the climax of the story and gives the backstory leading up to the end. Who are the characters? What brought them to the commune? Why are they dying? And these characters are a strange group, so it wouldn’t be far-fetched to believe that any of them could be the killer. You’ll just have to read to find out, and I hope you’ll find it to be as unputdownable as I did. 5 out of 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly recommend!

This book is a gripping psychological thriller that builds suspense from the very first chapter. The pacing feels a little slow to start, but it ramps up significantly about halfway through and really pulls you in.

One of the book’s biggest strengths is the uncertainty around the character, I genuinely didn’t know who to trust, and the twists were excellent. At times it almost feels like two stories unfolding as new revelations change your perspective.

I did struggle to like any of the characters, but I suspect that was intentional. By keeping everyone morally ambiguous, the author ensures you’re constantly questioning who might be innocent and who might be guilty.

When I saw Danny Dagan post a "coming soon" for a new book, I was straight back in his DMs to make sure I got a signed copy, after The Game was one of my top ten books from last year. It's exciting to read an author from their debut and build up a proper collection from the off!

Again, I just love Danny's writing style, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I've read thrillers about community living like this before, and I really liked the way the setting danced on the line between the titular commune and the more nefarious cult.

There were twists I didn't anticipate - where I hadn't even considered that twists could have been possible - and a bubbling tension throughout.

This was such an eerie slowburn but once you get to the last 30% things come to a head and it is hard to put down until you completely figure out what’s going on!!
People come to this Commune hoping for a second chance at life where they can be completely different from who they used to be, but something is taking them out… or someone and you spend the book trying to figure out what’s exactly is going on with these folks!
This book follows multiple POVs which is perfect for trying to figure out exactly who dun it.
I never knew who to trust while reading this book and I truly loved the experience!

Oh my days this was absolutely crazy and I loved every second of it!

So who of us has never had the thought to just go off-grid... dissappear into a life away from everything and everyone, well most of the people in this book did just that. They were hiding away from someone or something in their lives that was so terrible they had to get out hence - The Commune. It almost got close to a cult to be fair.

As we discover why every person came to the cult we also uncover their (sometimes unsavoury pasts) and you can form a picture in your mind of where this is going. But trust me it's not!!!

This was gripping and tension filled and every time you think you know what is next ... you don't.  I did not for a second begin to imagine where this ended up and all I can say is do not trust your family!!

This was such a good read @dannydaganwriter captured the essence of commune life perfectly, the highs and the lo's. Fantastic read for any psychological thriller fans!!

I am generally a slower reader however with this book I found myself unable to stop reading, I finished it in half the time I usually take. The setting was dark and loomed throughout and the way the forest is depicted added a layer of tension that built to the twists of the story that I didnt see coming. The way we see saw between the 'now' and the 'then' was really interesting and helped ramp up the tension some more. This book will stay with me for a long time, I am really excited to see what comes next from this author

This thriller doesn't mess about.

The plot and characters are all highly complex.
I really liked the multiple pov timelines. The book is fast paced and keeps you wondering and changing your mind of who did what constantly.
It is highly descriptive which helps to immerse you in the plot.

The secrets hidden fur years will be revealed with some tragic consequences.
I'm not sure commune life would be for me after reading this

I’m not being funny but this takes some guts, completely deleting your life and trusting complete strangers. Fair Play!
I knew this book was gonna be a cracker but I was addicted.
The setting was dark, creepy and full of pure terror. Whilst reading this I couldn’t have guessed what was going to happen in the chapter I was reading or in the next, it was hell of a ride.
I absolutely loved this book, it was full of suspense and surprises, I can’t wait to read more from this author.

My goodness this was a book that drew me in from the start, the way it was written in such a way it eased you in slowly then wouldn’t let you go.
A psychological thriller that gets you all at ease then begins to get eerie and unsettling as the tension builds.
The isolation and setting really was perfect for this kind of thriller, a page turning atmospheric read.

A good read.

The Commune by Danny Dagan.
This was a good read. I did like the cover and blurb of this book. This is a new author for me. This was creepy and eerie. This was a slow burner. But I had to know what happened. I wasn't sure how I felt about Luke. I did like the short chapters. I didn't realise this was the second book after the game. Even though I haven't read it I was still able to read this book.

If you love thrillers, this slow burn suspense filled thriller is just the one for you. I was gripped from the start and left wanting to know exactly what had happened to Luke and the people within his commune. Danny writes in a way that has you eager to turn the page. The characters come to life with each word and I felt at times as though I was right there myself!

I'm a bit speechless to be honest! I read up to the end of Part 3 this morning and needed a bit of time to process the last chapter of it. What a twist!

Another fabulous page turner from Danny Dagan. I loved it.

Very different from how I thought things would turn out. Really enjoyed it.
