Despite the entertainments of the London Season, Perseus Briarwood is most annoyed by the mud, rain, and darkness of the winter months. Doing as a young buck ought, Perseus is out every night, but it isn’t until he comes upon a young woman in his grandmother’s library that his Season lights with excitement and desire. For Miss Muriel Mitchell is a study in academic delight as she pours over old books and rare items the Briarwoods have collected. When he discovers her first love is the theater, he is determined to offer her a rendezvous she can’t resist. One that very well might lead to love.
Miss Muriel Mitchell finds little delight in balls, though she must attend them. She has several sisters who need husbands, after all! But as the youngest, she is most happy to wait to find hers. Everything changes when Perseus Briarwood charges into her life, offering to make her love of the theater come alive. In her heart, she has secretly longed to know the inner workings of the stage and performers. When Perseus makes this possible, the risk is high, but his kisses and the promise of a life larger than she’s ever known are impossible to resist. But as a young lady of the ton, will she find liberation, or will she lose it all?
Perseus Briarwood.is feeling a little antsy, the weather is awful so he can't enjoy the outdoors, and yet another season looms before him, and then, whilst learning new wrestling techniques he catches a glimpse of a young lady he doesn't know so follows her to the library. Muriel is the youngest daughter of a knight, whose come to London to marry off his older daughters and give Muriel a season. But Muriel isn't sure she wants to marry, she loves Shakespeare and his plays, so has written to the dowager Duchess asking permission to see the Briarwood collection. But then she meets Perseus and her attention becomes divided, when he takes her back stage at the theatre, and encouraged her to recite soliloquys.
Always good to see the Briarwood clan. Not sure why but this book is not my favourite.
I really do love all the Briarwood stories because the characters in the family are so lovable. They are a unique family in the ton. They are open and inclusive, and they have a strong desire to help others. There is always funny witty banter within the family while also showing unlimited love and support. This story was a little different though because I didn’t feel like the love story developed as easily as normal. It was giving more savior than love for a long time. It also seemed more focused on the theatre and the consequences of acting more than the actual development of the love story. Some of the doubts seemed tedious and repetitive, but the main couple reached their HEA. The story did, however, introduce a new family, that we may just see again, that proved to be special and loving as well.
Perseus Briarwood and his family are spending time at their estate on the Wight to escape the dreary winter. Miss Muriel Mitchell, who adores books and the theater has been invited to visit by the dowager duchess and his mother to use their extensive library. Perseus is fascinated by Muriel from the moment he meets her. The chemistry between them is wonderful, with his unwavering support of her becoming an actress which she feels would bring scandal to her family. The secondary characters are fabulous, (who doesn't love the Briarwoods), and the storyline just makes you happy.
Wonderful story and book. Mutual loved the theater and all it entailed . Jerseys saw the potential in her in their first meeting . he encouraged her to follow her dreams and he would stand and support her always. They got married in such a shirt time knowing each other with TBE support if her family and the Briarwood family and so their story begins! They get there new and so much more. Happy reading! 😊
...and fulfilling. Perseus and Muriel are a true Briarwood match. The love of Shakespeare and the written word never more evident. I love the Briarwood and recommend this and every other story in the series. It was the first series, this book included, that I ever pre-ordered. And so, onto the next!!
It's definitely for anyone who loves completely! Sickeningly sweet innocent romance. I love the family dynamic obviously because who wouldn't want a loving family like that!! My taste definitely run into the much darker side, but it was a cute little quick read.
