This has turned into my favorite read, maybe ever. Definitely God Tier book for me.

The way Ravenna writes is melodic, lyrical, and forces you to slow down and savor it. You really get to know and understand the world and the characters. There's a lot of lore, a lot of information on who the characters are and why they are the way they are. Auryn, the FMC is a fallen star with a disability. She is small, fragile, but so strong in other ways and I love watching the world transform around her. Resh’Agar is our God of War MMC. He is relentless, strong, a weapon in human form. Other characters you meet along the way are incredible. My favorite being Thessia. ❤️‍🔥 You'll just have to read the book to find out why.

Names play a large role within this story and I fully believe that names help shape a person into who they are which translates really well throughout this story. If you're looking for a book you can chew through in a day or two and hits all the usual romantasy points, this is not the book you're looking for. This story is a journey, an epic fantasy. It is very character driven with a lot of lore about the world, its people, beliefs, customs, and history. There are also several intense points, a lot of screaming at the MMC, and some spicy scenes.

There aren't enough words to fully describe how much I enjoyed this story. I cannot wait to dive into book 2 to find out what happens and has happened (IYKYK- just hoping for the best for my kindles sake 🤣). When I say I felt all the feels in this book- I cried, I laughed, I was so giddy I kicked my feet, I was at the edge of my seat, I was screaming.

I really hope you give it a try. If you don't make it to the last 10-15% of the book you're missing out on one of the most insane parts of the book - IMO.

This is one of those romances that feels mythic in scale, but incredibly soft at its core. These are not small, normal people characters. They’re powerful, symbolic, larger-than-life. There’s a tenderness and devotion to Auryn and Kailorien. It feels reverent and gentle. The kind of connection where you can practically see the heart eyes.

What really made that work is the contrast. The world around them is harsh. Violent, expansive, and filled with danger. And right in the middle of all that, their relationship stays soft. It doesn’t harden to match the world, which makes those quieter moments land even harder.

Kailorien has a strong protective instinct that borders on excess at times, but he is learning to temper that into devotion rather than control. It's a big part of his story as Auryn explores who she is and what she wants from life. Even if that means she isn't safe all of the time.

This is MY opinion and how the book read TO ME as a reader and in no way is meant to invalidate anyone ELSE as a reader or the author's choice and experience:

That said, I did love that there was a clear focus on consent, safety, and connection in the spicier scenes. It feels intentional and integrated into both Auryn’s personal journey and how the world interacts with her, rather than something added on the surface.

Overall, this is a story that leans into softness in a world that often doesn’t allow for it, and that contrast really works. If you love epic fantasy with a romance that feels mythic (intimate, devotional, and aching), this is definitely one to have on your radar. I wish the author all of the success.

Thank you to the author and IRIS (Indie Readers Influencer Society) for the complimentary copy and opportunity. This review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.

The best way for me to describe this book is epic. Epic romance, epic fantasy, epic world-building. While romance is central to the story, there’s still so much development going on outside of it.

I am actually obsessed with Auryn and how lyrical she is when she speaks. She’s literally my new role model as a disability rep! Even as she has the ailment you still go through the story like… is Kail protecting her or is she protecting him. Auryn is wonderful in showing that you can not be strong in the traditional sense and still be something so uplifting to others and show them that physical strength isn’t the only thing that matters.

Also the side characters are perfect !! There’s so much trauma and lgbtq rep that makes it relatable and deep. Thessia for one was one of my favorites and Zarrek grew on me as he seemed to let go of his bride and grew a soft spot for Auryn.

This book is beautifully and heartbreakingly written and I’m so excited to see where the story goes next.

This is an incredible epic fantasy.
Ravenna manages to bring us into this fantastical world where we meet Auryn and Resh.

This story is full of so much information. The world building is impeccable. The character arcs are just perfect. Throughout the book, we are leading to meet so many other important characters that im certain we will get to learn more about and in more depth in the next book.

The way Ravenna delicately sews together the turmoil being experienced and the kindling of the love between the FMC and MMC is so well done.
I have to say that Thalessia is one of my fave characters in the book.

Ravenna's writing style is just butter to my eyes and bringing in the incorporation of the disability representation, without losing sight of how strong and important our FMC truly is, goes to show how hard Ravenna has worked on this piece.

She has truly approached this book, the same way an artist like them, approaches art. In layers with patience and attention to detail.

Thank you Ravenna for allowing me.to be part of this book and I cant wait to meet our Sokâr. 🥰🥰🥰

*ARC REVIEW*

How do I adequately write a review to do complete and total justice to a book which buried its way into my heart and my soul? How do I articulate the deep, resonating love I developed for this book as I read, and will hold onto for a very long time to come.

It feels utterly impossible to properly convey how absolutely stunning, captivating and thought provoking Breath of Starlight truly is, to an audience who have not had the privilege and honour to read it yet.

Breath of Starlight is, in my opinion, a perfect ode, tribute and addition to the true fantasy literary world. It is epic fantasy at its core, with a style of world building and tension which is far more reminiscent of the more traditional style of fantasy I grew up reading. Reading Breath of Starlight reminded me of epic fantasies like Lord of the Rings and The Wheel of Time and Mistborn, whilst holding its own and standing strong in its own right, alongside them.

Ravenna Vale has perfectly captured the heart and soul of the fantasy genre of old in Breath of Starlight, whilst masterfully avoiding the enjoyable, but overly played out tropes we see in much of mainstream fantasy these days, and still presenting her audience with a love story for the ages.

This book is not a Romantasy in the way we see it in much of the fantasy genre today. This is a fantasy romance, with a love story so entwined with the world of Elendria Ravenna has built, that you cannot have one without the other. It doesn’t feel like the world - or the romance - is a subplot, but rather a single offering, packaged with the utmost care. And it is perfect.

The truly beautiful, mature, adult relationship is devoid of the drama and chaos we have come to expect in most reads within the genre, and instead feels stable and calm, which I truly adored and feel caters to a much more mature, older, fantasy-oriented audience who are desperate to read something different; something more reminiscent of the fantasy books we have held dear to our hearts for decades.

There is nothing I would refer to as “spice” in BoS. The intimacy scenes have been written with a beautiful and soft reverence, which is to the Breath of Starlight’s absolute credit. To have written this any other way would have been disrespectful to the soft, gentle strength and flow of the narrative.

Ravenna leaves subtle hints and questions unanswered, which leave the reader guessing in the best way, as to what we will learn in future books in this series.

Ravenna has incorporated disability representation is such a way that readers who can relate to Auryn’s limitations and unyielding, yet quiet refusal to sit back and do nothing, may find themselves finally being able to identify with an FMC who experiences the world in a way which they can understand.

Ravenna Vale has given me everything I was craving in a fantasy and Breath of Starlight has rapidly moved to the top of my favourite books of all time list.

To the readers who adore the traditional style of fantasy, deep world building and tension which isn’t loud and overt, but quiet, intellectual and deep, this book will become your new favourite read. And I promise you, you will be love craving the next offering in the series.

Spice: 🌶
Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Auryn is unashamedly herself and I really enjoyed reading her character. Her bodies limitations are written so well, she is a strong FMC who is finding herself but knows that she is not the weak woman others perceive her to be and is happy to challenge Resh on his overprotectiveness.

Resh's yearning and need to protect Auryn is next level; she is the only thing in lifetimes that he has cared for. It was great reading his vulnerability and insecurities around having little to no control over Auryn's use of magic and the conflict that raised in him. He desperately wants to protect her and keep her safe but knows that she is capable and needs space to be herself but he is terrified of losing her.

I love Thessia and how she gets under Resh's skin. She plays the game poke-the-bear so well and is such a great ally for Auryn.

Hot takes from this book are,

🖤 People are afraid of what they don't understand because they don't know how to control it

🖤 Others only see your strength in your weakest moment, they have no idea what you are truly capable of and that's on them. Let them underestimate you, its easier for them to see you as vulnerable than as a threat.

I cannot wait to see Auryn come into her own and make people see how strong she is. Auryn has waited and played their game for long enough, time she shows them who their dealing with.

If you enjoy romantasy with protective MMCs, magical use with ancient prophecy/fate vibes this one's for you.

"Your ready to surrender yet Shadeslayer?"

"I'm small, the waters warm...I was definitely simmering"

"I have never harboured a desire as deep as the one that runs in my blood for you"

This epic fantasy was filled with immortal gods, unique magic, monsters from the abyss, a burning yet heart wrenching love, and a star born woman who leaves all who encounter her changed forever.

Kailorien, known by his subjects as Resh’Agar, an immortal god of war, finds himself bound to Auryn, a disabled fallen star who was reborn before her time. With the Cycle of Dark unleashing ancient monsters at every turn, Kailorien battles not only with his duty and the powers that hold him hostage, but also his growing feelings for the wondrous, curious, and kind woman born of starlight. Auryn joins Kailorien as he sets out to conquer the ancient monsters tormenting the land, but soon finds that the powers held inside of her make his soldiers either revere, fear, hate, or love her. But with every use of her power, Auryn pays with a cost, but will that cost be too great? Or will it lead her to become what she is destined to be?

I absolutely loved the world building, the lore, and magic systems! It had a mythological element to it and it was fascinating to see how it all unfolded. The writing was lyrical, intricate, and poetic while also being easy to understand and read.

I wholeheartedly connected with Auryn! Her kindness, compassion for others, her curiosity and simplicity with learning about the world around her, while also bearing an ancient power and deeply rooted wisdom-it was so refreshing and inspiring to see her character blossom and grow. There is a part of Auryn’s story that I felt in my heart and soul-her pain, her sorrow, her grief, her love for Kailorien, and her true understanding of her own power-I felt every single thing. It’s something I’ve experienced deeply and will never ever forget.

I loved the found family dynamic that grows amongst our main characters, and I am a huge Thessia fan! She just took Auryn under her wing, and seemed to understand Auryn and see her, for all that she is and is becoming, sometimes before the others did. It was something that deeply resonated with me!

I will say that towards the beginning of the story, I was not sure how I felt about Kailorien’s nickname for Auryn being “Little One”, especially after they shared a romantic and physically intimate moment, and their growing bond and romantic feelings were surfacing. There was a sense of him being protective of her in numerous aspects, (to some secondary characters it seemed a bit fatherly) and that overall protectiveness shone through, but was hoping that his nickname for her would have changed more quickly as their relationship dynamic evolved and progressed, to deter away from the “fatherly” aspect that other characters hinted at.

I also wanted to share that this story does include spice, but was stated by the author that it is non-explicit. The spice was very emotion, consent, and safety focused, which I appreciated, but I was expecting the spice to be even more emotion focused, allegorical, and vague in terms of language/words used. As a low/no spice reader, even with non-explicit language mostly used, this level of spice still felt a bit more out of my usual comfort level due to frequency, length of those scenes, and some of the language used.

However, even with the two things I noted above, I still throughly enjoyed this epic fantasy story. I believe that those who love a deeply intricate world, a unique magic system, a devastating and aching love with a good amount of spice, would enjoy this story immensely!

I am so grateful to the author, Ravenna Vale, for the opportunity to ARC read “Breath of Starlight”.

oh my g-d. this is the best book fantasy book i've ever read hands down. i knew from the moment i first started seeing this book on my feed that i was going to love it. saintlike characters are my favorite trope EVER and generally that's how pick the books i'm going to read and it was done SOO well in this book.

the characters in this story held such depth!! my favorites other than auryn and kailorien are zarreck and thessia, particularly thessia. their personalities were all so unique, even withint he mold of epic fantasy/romantasy. i could understand all of their motivations, even when i disagreed with them.

the world itself is lush in the sense the world building is incredible. more than once i was deeply awed by the level of thought that was clearly put into the story. i was confused at times because there was more than once that something wasn't explained, but there's a glossary in the back, so i was never truly lost, and even without the glossary, i could figure out what was going on from context.

the foreshadowing done within the plot was amazing. more than once i was covering my mouth with my eyes wide and just staring at the page while screaming internally, which is one of my FAVORITE things when it comes to books/reading

the linework itself is stunning. the prose is beautiful, so lyrical and descriptive without being overdone. i also loved that the smut was written in a similar vein. i'm not really a huge smut reader, but this book did that smut the way i prefer for it to be done when i am reading it.

far and away, however, what i enjoyed most about this book was the representation in terms of auryn's disability. i'm disabled and chronically ill and my disease very much mirrors auryn's in many ways. i see so much of myself in her in a way i haven't with most other books i've read/relate to.

i have so much more i want to say, but i also don't want to give anything away. just trust me that this is a book you won't regret picking up or preordering should you so decide to, especially if you enjoy epic fantasy or romantasy.

Breath of the Starlight is one of those rare books that pulls you in from the first page and refuses to let go. It’s immersive, emotional, and beautifully written — the kind of story that feels less like reading and more like stepping into another world.

The worldbuilding is phenomenal. Ravenna Vale crafts a setting that feels ancient, layered, and lived‑in, with languages, histories, and cultures that unfold naturally as the story progresses. I still have questions about the deeper workings of this world, but in the best way — the kind that makes me eager for the next installment.

Auryn is a standout protagonist. Her memory loss and gradual rediscovery of who she is made her journey incredibly compelling. I felt like I was uncovering the truth right alongside her. Her strength, vulnerability, and growing sense of identity give the story its emotional core.

And then there’s Kailorien — the Resh’Agar. He’s everything you want in a protector figure: powerful, layered, and deeply loyal without ever overshadowing Auryn. Their dynamic is balanced and electric. This isn’t a damsel‑in‑distress story; Auryn is a force in her own right, and their romance grows from mutual respect, mystery, and undeniable chemistry. I can’t wait to learn more about his backstory in future books.

The pacing is spot‑on, the prose is flawless, and the characters are some of the most vivid and well‑developed I’ve read in a long time. If you love epic fantasy, romantic fantasy, or stories that blend mythic depth with emotional intimacy, this is an absolute must‑read.

I’m already counting down to the next book in the series.

Not your typical Romantasy! I just finished this incredible book by Ravenna Vale! The plot is written in an epic fantasy scope of storytelling.
For a reader who is new to this type of world-building, I was immediately drawn in by Ravenna’s absolutely stunning and personally handcrafted art. Seeing the love and time she put into each character’s countenance and expressions is how I knew I needed to hear her words!
So I began the journey of discovering Elendria through her beautiful prose. I found myself highlighting so many quotes and details to remember. Studying the glossary and map. The tone is not shy about deep themes and war violence. I really appreciated how well these topics were handled with care. Every detail is flawless.
Auryn is a disabled fallen star, and I found that I could relate to her character very deeply, as she struggles to show her strengths while being reminded continually of her struggles. Even after finishing book one, I need even more Auryn!
Resh is such a unique character, too. He is a warlord with unique magical abilities, strong but complex. He’s not a character that I will soon forget. I can’t wait to find out more about where their paths lead.
Ravenna has a way of making me care deeply about each side character as well! They were also written with love and attention to detail. I felt completely immersed in this world.
Finishing this book left me with so many big feelings and thoughts about the future of Elendria. I’m so thankful to have book 2 in my hands, and I cannot wait to start!

“She was starlight. A treasure to be protected, not a symbol to be claimed.”

✨ Slow burn
✨ Fated mates
✨ Forced proximity
✨ Found family
✨ Disability rep

This has a really cosmic, lyrical fantasy feel with big, immersive worldbuilding and a magic system that feels layered and intentional.

Auryn really stood out. I liked that her disability is just part of her, not something framed as something she has to overcome. She’s navigating a world that both worships and fears her, which adds a lot of tension to her story.

“This wasn’t just he could slake in ritual swear and whispered indulgences. This was want—yearning in its cruelest form. The kind that slipped beneath one’s skin and made a man forget his purpose.”

The romance between Auryn and Kailorian is very fated-mates coded, with a slow build of tension and connection. There’s a constant pull between them, and the yearning is done really well without feeling rushed.

“I am not meant to want. I am not created to keep.”

The found family aspect is strong too. The side characters bring warmth and loyalty that balance out the heavier tone nicely.

“Stop breaking yourself to fix me. To fix everything.”

The worldbuilding feels vast and almost dreamlike, like there’s always something bigger just out of reach, which makes it really immersive.

Very character-driven fantasy with a slow burn romance, strong emotional arcs, and a focus on identity, survival, and selfhood in a world that wants to define you.

Chaos, vibes, and opinions are all my own ✨ please give credit if you share.

I received a copy of this book from the author; all opinions are my own.
Breath of Starlight is one of those stories that feels expansive and intimate all at once. It blends epic fantasy, rich world-building, and a slow-burn romance with deeper themes about identity, strength, and what it really means to be powerful. Auryin completely stole the show for me. She’s not strong in the traditional sense, but her resilience, self-awareness, and quiet defiance make her such a compelling FMC. Watching her navigate a world that underestimates her while still holding onto who she is was honestly one of the most impactful parts of the story. The dynamic between her and Resh is layered with tension, protectiveness, and vulnerability that never feels one-sided. The story itself isn’t simple or straightforward, but that’s part of its charm. With multiple perspectives and complex character arcs, it invites you to sit with the narrative rather than rush through it. The side characters add so much depth, and the representation woven throughout makes everything feel even more grounded and meaningful.

If you love slow-burn romantasy with protective MMCs, emotional depth, and a story that challenges what strength looks like, this is absolutely worth picking up.

(I was given an advanced copy of this book from the author, and all thoughts/opinions are my own and voluntarily provided)

"Some said the woman was a witch. Others whispered she was a fallen star. But all agreed on one thing—The world had begun to tilt, and the Resh’Agar was no longer at its center."

Breath of Starlight is not just a book; it's an experience that needs to be savored. A story with soul, grit, substance, complex messages and beauty. This is one of the most poetic and profound books I have read in a long time, and it has left a lasting impression on me. This is not just an epic fantasy; it's the start of a series that will likely become a literary masterpiece, and I adore everything about it.

Auryn is majestic and whimsical. There is intention behind every action, thought and word she speaks. The way her dialogue is written is thought provoking; the word choice, phrasing, and surety behind her words is so well crafted, I found myself constantly pulled into her orbit. She embodies the strength it takes to be inside a body that's durability doesn't match that of her mind; fragile externally, and resilient internally. The way Ravenna portrays Auryn's body and mind mismatch is a beautiful tribute to anyone who lives with chronic illness and pain, and captures the experience so well (I can personally attest to this).

Resh is a man used to control. A protector through and through, with the soul of a warrior, who has never experienced what it means to love someone else to such a deep extent that it breaks down walls and demands vulnerability. He doesn't know how to love anyone or anything without controlling the experience and outcome, and Auryn is his undoing and remaking. You can feel and see him struggling with the fear of the unknown, battling with how to protect Auryn without suffocating everything that makes her precious to him. The way his experience is portrayed is raw, real, and human.

There are so many strong messages in this story, and it's likely that readers will have a different takeaway based on their own experiences. What resonated the most with me personally was how femininity was portrayed as multifaceted, existing on a spectrum that not only encourages female empowerment, but also encourages vulnerability acceptance in males. With how black and white our society can be - and as a single mother raising a son in a world that still stifles emotional expression in males - this really hit home for me. The way that these messages (and more) are subtly woven through this story is masterfully done.

This book is truly one of a kind, and unlike anything else I have read. I can't recommend this book enough! For those readers who are drawn towards deep stories, with complex messages and strong individual and interpersonal character development - plus beautiful, lyrical writing - this book is for you.

Thank you for sharing an ARC with me, Ravenna. I am so happy I found you and your beautiful words ❤️

* now , let me try and form words ! I need a minute !

If you want a high stake romantasy with a thick plot then this book is for you !!

I can’t put into words how much I LOVED this book! I honestly struggled to put it down ! This book was described as LOTR and honestly Kailorien definitely gave off Aragorn vibes. He was fearless , feared, protective , brave and had the true strength of a warrior. Nothing could bring him to his knees , until he met her!

The fact Kailorien was a dark beast of a man that was built on pain, destruction , danger and death but somehow she was able to draw the softer side of him. Putting himself in danger whilst trying to protect her but remaining royal to his role and purpose . Kailorien’s was bound to darkness by a curse , relics and service but having met Auryn his emotions and loyalty was tested . Whilst being the ruthless and dangerous Resh'Agar he had to be calculated in how he could protect her . One wrong decisions could seal their fate .

In the eyes of the warriors , Auryn was small , fragile and weak but she was far more than her looks.. They feared her stillness and her quiet movements . It’s easy to fear something that one could not understand . They sensed ancient power and she was able to put the darkness on edge. She didn’t let her figure define who she was . She had her beliefs , curiosity and intense feelings towards the immortal God. She was herself and that was enough. She was ready for battle , pushing her powers to the limit. She was brave and she would happily sacrifice herself for those she loved . I was heavily drawn into the mystery of her powers , her past and her destiny. I am so curious and I definitely need the next book IMMEDIATELY!

This slow burn was painful but it captured their gradual relationship perfectly. Their mutual attraction , passionate connection and yearning really pushed them to that forbidden line ! And let’s talk about the mystery surrounding Auryn’s identity ??!! That is one mystery I was definitely wanting to unravel! The author gave me enough information to keep
me temporarily pleased but not enough that I was practically begging for more !

I loved the side characters too - Zarrek , Thessia and Talia !! They protected and loved so hard and made enough sacrifices . They earned their place and they most definitely earned their braids ..

✨Thank you to Ravenna Vale for this arc in return for an honest review ✨

This new epic fantasy romance was just that - EPIC. If this book isn’t already on your radar, it needs to be!

The world building was phenomenal in this one, and it was coupled with rich lore for this new fantasy world. That combined with disability representation, a beautifully done slow burn romance, all the yearning, found family, dual POV, an overprotective MMC, epic battles, and so much more made for a fantastic start to the Nine Rivers Odyssey.

Our FMC Auryn is intentionally small in a world full of larger than life humans. She’s a disabled fallen star who has been reborn too early. But being small doesn’t make her any less mighty. Auryn is unapologetically herself, and she’s stronger than anyone ever wants to give her credit for. Using her magic may be taxing on her body, but that never stops her from using her magic for the ultimate good of everyone around her.

Our MMC Resh, or Kailorien as Auryn refers to him, is essentially the embodiment of war. He’s larger than most men, and he’s known for his strength and battle prowess. He’s instantly drawn to Auryn, and he can’t help but want to protect her at all costs.

The romance between them is a delicious slow burn full of yearning and tension. Auryn is ready to give in completely, but Resh holds out in his fight to protect her for any and everything, including himself. When he finally gives in, prepare for these 2 to ignite. 🔥

Some of my favorite relationships in the book were Auryn’s growing friendships with Zarrek and Thessia. These 2 side characters brought so much additional depth to the story, and I really enjoyed the extra banter they brought as well!

The ending was full of action and heartbreak, and I’m dying to know what happens next.

Thank you so much Ravenna Vale and IRIS Influencer Society for the gifted copy of this one! ✨

Breath of Starlight follows FMC Auryn, a mysterious girl born from the stars. She is fragile but powerful and has a disability where she’s seen either as a miracle or dangerous to some. Our MMC Kailorien is an immortal god of war who finds Auryn trapped and awakens her. As their paths become intertwined in a world filled with ancient magic and danger, we watch their relationship progress and become a big part of this story. Kailorien had my heart, so protective and devoted to Auryn🥹

The author has such a poetic writing style that made the book really enjoyable to read. Although the tropes in this book are popular in romantasy, it still felt fresh and different in some ways. I especially loved the world building and the atmosphere of the story.

There were a few things I didn’t love, mainly the insta love from the MMC and the random switching between first and third person POV, which could be a little confusing at times. Other than that, I really enjoyed this book and think it’s worth reading.

Review of advance copy received from the Author.

All comments are my own.

A fantasy novel that has left this reader speechless, in the best possible way.

Resh’Agar is written top tier. Stubborn, strong, fearless and layered. He is character depth personified.

Auryn is beauty, grace, strength and determination. A warrior in her own right. Her wisdom carries off the page and lingers in the mind of the beholder.

This is more than the tropes would lead you to believe. This book is about how strength is more than just physical. How determination can lead you to change your perceptions. How love is multifaceted. How the bonds of chosen family can grow and evolve into something spectacular.

Where war inches closer, you love deeper.

“There is no step I would take that doesn’t lead me back to you”

Breath of Starlight exceeds the hype. It owns it and rises above it.

Sometimes fantasy book really hit for me and sometimes I get a little lost and have a hard time following. Unfortunately, I think I discovered the glossary at the back of the book a little too late and I found myself not following where they were and what was happening 100%. Also I prefer my books to be in 1st person, and the fact that most of this was in 3rd and would randomly switch to 1st and even 2nd was really throwing me off.
I did like the characters, especially following Auryn and how she held herself and how gentle Resh was with her. It did just feel a little repetitive she was constantly using her “magic” and feeling run down and he was constantly upset about it.
I don’t want this to sound like I didn’t enjoy this book because I really did enjoy the first 2/3rds of it, I just felt a little lost and impatient towards the last conflict.

I love a good morally gray MMC, especially when he’s always been bad, but when he meets her he decides he might change his ways and finally care about someone other than himself!

You follow the story of the MMC, who’s known for killing and winning battles on behalf of his ruler. When he’s finishing up a campaign, he makes a stop and finds the FMC deep in some ancient ice. Born from the stars and maybe awoken too early, our FMC forms an almost instant connection and understanding with monster MMC and as they travel together back toward his home, her unfathomable powers are slowly revealed. While she is small and seems to be of another world or time, especially from the way she talks, her and the MMC cannot help the bond they feel for one another.

I so enjoyed the beautiful storytelling and world building of this book. A kingdom on the brink of devastation due to dark forces no one knows how to control coming from a Rift in the world, built up the stakes and emotional tension to where I was always on edge waiting for the other shoe to drop in this book. I really liked seeing the FMC interact with other characters outside of the MMC in her own unique way and how she formed friendships with others who in the end would also sacrifice anything for her. My emotions were all over the place in this book, especially the last few chapters had me devastated in the best way, when a book can really make you feel for the characters you know it’s going to be good. Overall I really enjoyed it and cannot wait for the next one to pickup where this left off! My rating 4.7/5!

Thanks to the author for the gifted arc, all opinions given are my own!

This is god-tier fantasy!!
From the moment I saw the cover I knew I needed to read this book. Just from the first few chapters I already had it in my mind that this was a 5 star book for me just from the writing alone. I was completely captivated by her words, its lyrical and the imagery came to life so easy in my mind. An absolute amazing work of "show me don't tell me" in the writing style. I put on epic fantasy music and immersed myself into this world. The pacing is smooth and gentle as the author introduced the characters and world building, then it builds as the plot and story head toward the ending.
The romance has a tenderness that I have never read before. Kailorien is instantly pulled to Auryn, he is obsessed with her but gentle and to everyone one else it’s a true “touch her ☠️”. I love the dialogue between them. Auryn speaks and walks with the grace and beauty of a goddess even though her body is small and frail. Kailorien tends to her heart and body like he will lose her at any moment but he is a stubborn man/god and the fear of losing her is greater than his heart can take. I was completely captivated by them, it pulled at my heart. It reminded me a bit of how my husband is was me when my migraines flare up and I’m unable to take care of myself. This book spoke to my heart.

What the hell?? Why did it end? 😂
Have you ever picked up a book and started reading and you could not, for the life of you put it down? That’s exactly what this book did to me! I’m absolutely obsessed with Auryn (FMC) and Kailorien (MMC). They are polar opposites but they match each other perfectly, navigating a cruel and unforgiving world together.
I am so wrapped up in their story it’s not even funny. I’m so glad I can jump straight into book 2!

Auryn is forged from starlight, a presence that intoxicated me from the first page. Ethereal and untouchable, she moves through the story wild and unclaimed, answering to no one but herself.
The worldbuilding is rich and deliberate, magic threaded through every page like a living thing. The journey stretches long and perilous, carrying the weight of ancient roads and looming destinies, echoing the relentless forward march of epic fantasy.
Kailorien is a blade given form. Strong, protective, and born for war, his presence alone demands attention. He stands between Auryn and the world’s hunger, a warrior shaped by blood and duty, inevitable as violence itself.
Darkness presses in from all sides. Battlefields slick with blood. Monsters made of teeth and claws. War lingers at the edges, always watching, always waiting. The cycle of darkness follows close behind, tightening its grip with every step.
Auryn is a light in that suffocating dark — but light attracts the things that wish to consume it. The story asks an unsettling question: when you love something, how do you protect it without caging it?
Auryn’s fight is not only against monsters or war, but against being reduced to something owned. She struggles to be heard rather than displayed, to choose rather than be chosen.
Breath of Starlight is beautifully written and unflinching, a story where hope bleeds and choosing your own fate may demand everything.

Where do I even start?
I was incredibly fortunate to receive the ARC for this formidable book.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - 5 Stars all day every day
🔥🔥🔥 - Beautiful Slow burn, but when it heats up it is spicy !

Prepare to be swept into a gut-wrenching, beautiful love story, a journey between a man who has never known love and a woman discovering her true self. The blend of high fantasy, hardship, war, and survival is masterfully woven, centred on a character who upends expectations and softens even the hardest of hearts. The narrative beautifully explores the many shades of love, not just romantic, but also platonic, familial, and fiercely protective. These nuanced relationships add emotional richness and depth, making the world and its characters feel both epic and achingly real.

You’re introduced to the immortal god of war, Kailorien (or Resh’Agar, MMC), a warrior destined to serve, and Auryn (FMC), a shining star awakened too soon and bound in breath and soul.

Their interactions are sweet, with just the right edge of spice to keep you wanting more. Love and heartbreak intertwine between Kailorien and Auryn.

“And if I want to chain you to me? If I bound you so tightly that no hand, no curse, no god could ever touch you again- would you run? Would you turn from this ugly part of me?”

“I would say,” she whispered, arms sliding round his neck, cheek pressing to his,“ that there is no part of you that could drive me from the light of your eyes.”

Auryn is small and, at times, fragile; every time she uses her magic to help, it comes at a great cost to her life, and Kailorien will do everything in his power to keep her safe, even if that means living without her.

The bromance between Resh and Zarrech is legendary; their banter is to die for. Zarrech pushes Resh when he sees love blossoming between him and Auryn, and calls him out when he’s being stubborn or blind.

I love that Auryn is unapologetically herself. She’s chastised for being something others don’t understand. Is she a witch, a heretic, or simply unique? She feels deeply and wants only to help those who fear her.

“I am myself. As though any and all should have seen the truth without the need to query it.”

She hates wearing shoes and often complains when Kailorien makes her wear them, fearing she’ll hurt herself even though the silver threaded through her veins heals her.

Then there’s the Lioness, Thessia, who is strong and drawn to Auryn’s sweet nature. She believes in Auryn even when Auryn doesn’t believe in herself, and their budding friendship blossoms throughout the book, especially when Kailorien tries to push Auryn away.

A firm hand caught her wrist. "Moonbeam."

Thessia had followed her in silence as a shadow until now. Her grip was steady, grounding, even as Auyrn's whole body trembled.
"Let me go," Aryun rasped, yanking once.

But Thessia held firm. "No."

Auryn whirled, silver gaze brimming with fury and grief. "he doesn't trust me to choose. Not even that. Always deciding for me, what I'm allowed to know, where I'm allowed to be."

Thessia's expression softened, but her voice stayed steady. "Maybe he's afraid."

Ravenna’s writing draws you straight into the vivid world she’s crafted, immersing you in every detail and emotion. Her hand-drawn character illustrations add another layer of intimacy, making the story feel even more epic and personal. I can’t wait to see where her storytelling leads next.

Dear Ravenna,

I think back to the day you reached out and asked me to read your book it feels, now, like being invited to really understand what the reader x author relationship could be! You have changed my world for reading indie.

My first experience with your story, reading as a beta reader before you began querying and ultimately chose the path of self-publication, already left a lasting impression on me. But returning to it after your revisions, after the shifts in point of view, the refinement of voice, was something even more powerful. Both versions carried heart, but the evolution between them revealed just how deeply you understand your story and your characters.

At the center of it all is the relationship between Kail and Auren, and what you’ve created between them is something truly special. Their connection is not simply romantic. It feels intentional, layered, and deeply rooted in care. There is a reverence in the way Kail treats Auren, in the way he teaches her not just how to be loved, but how to be cherished without losing herself. You allow her to exist in that delicate balance, soft yet strong, small yet fiercely independent and it makes her feel all the more real. She carries a whimsical spirit, a sense that she moves not with the current but against it, carving her own path in a way that feels both gentle and defiant. Not infantile or childish.

I also deeply appreciated your portrayal of neurodiversity and disability. There is a sincerity and respect in the way you approach these elements, weaving them into the narrative without reducing them to defining traits. Instead, they become part of a fuller, richer identity, adding depth rather than limitation. It left me ready and excited to continue into Sokar, to see how these threads grow and expand as the story unfolds through your many planned books!

Your worldbuilding is another strength that stands out. You strike a careful and impressive balance, never overwhelming the reader with excessive detail, yet always providing just enough to anchor us fully in the world. There’s a confidence in the way you reveal information, allowing the setting to breathe and unfold naturally. It creates a sense of immersion that feels effortless, where the reader is both grounded and constantly wanting more.

And then there is your prose! Lyrical, evocative, and deeply intentional. You have a remarkable ability to control emotional pacing, to pull the reader into moments so fully that we find ourselves holding our breath without realizing it. There’s a rhythm to your writing that lingers, that settles into the reader long after the page is turned. I aspire to be this way, but I don’t think my writing is nearly this.

Even in the more intimate moments, that same level of care is evident. The emotional weight you give to those scenes takes them beyond mere physicality. they become extensions of the character’s connection, deepening the bond between them rather than interrupting it. Everything serves the story, reinforcing the trust and vulnerability that define Kail and Auren’s relationship.

Thank you, with everything for reaching out and trusting me to be apart of your journey. I hope this review reflects how I truly feel about you as a person and your books.

❤️ Personal Takeaway

I love finding the greatest treasures in indie reads ❤️ I've never read a more loving and grounded depiction of an FMC with neurodivergence and a chronic disability. Auryn was brought into the world too early, and with it, her abilities and physical capabilities are stunted. Yet, that is only a portion of who she is, and her huge heart and beautiful way of seeing the world bring so much colour to her character. All this wrapped up into some of the most breathtaking prose and emotional nuance that you feel all of the hope and heartache right alongside her.

As a neurodivergent myself who finds themselves frustrated often with their own physical limitations, this novel made me feel so seen. It handles the weight of feeling as if her own body is letting her down, while at the same time strengthening the belief that she is so much more than her achievements or her potential. It encourages empathetic themes like rest is not a failure, have compassion for yourself as well as others, every day with a disability can be different, and we cannot judge the value of others.

The romance between our FMC Auryn and the battleworn MMC Resh feels epic in its scale, both sweet and soft as well as world changing. After centuries of numbness and violence, Auryn is the first beautiful thing that Resh finds himself yearning for. While he finds himself struggling between his desire and his fears of tainting or hurting her, Auryn isn't afraid to call him out when he's being too overprotective. She brings out the soothing, hopeful side of him that he didn't know existed, and it was really cute seeing the secondary characters cheering on their slow burn. Resh is also honestly one of the few commander characters who actually proves their merit on the page. While most fantasy captains seem to be in title only, Resh is shown strategizing and executing incredible feats to keep his people safe. I would 100% follow than man into battle!

Speaking of secondary characters... I love them. So. Freaking. Much!! Vale's use of omniscient third person POV absolutely blew me away in this novel, at I really feel like I got to delve into each of their minds even without having to change the perspective. Emotional beats and recollections of the characters are so artfully woven in that you can tell exactly who each paragraph is featuring, but they weave so seamlessly together that it keeps you fully immersed the whole way. Thessia and Zarrek are officially two of my all-time favourite found family members now, and I need them to scoop me up immediately! While Thessia is a fierce and sweet amazonian-esque woman, Zarrek is a gruff teddybear type. Both of them are incredible friends to Resh, and I loved watching them bond with Auryn so deeply. I get the feeling they both give the best bear hugs.

There are so many important themes that this novel brought up that I don't think I've seen touched on anywhere else... and I'm so happy to have found them in this story. Namely, people with neurodivergence/disabilities/small stature should:

- Not be infantilized: Their sensitivities and needs do not make them childish.
- Be included in decision making: They should be present in the process, not have their autonomy removed.
- Practice compassion for themselves: Limitations are frustating, especially for those who face them every day in capacities they can't escape. Potential one day should not be reason to punish themselves the next if it is no longer achievable.

Whether you're looking for a story where you feel seen and strengthed by the compassion in it, or you're looking for a high fantasy that mixes sci-fi and cosmic world states... this is it.

Many thanks to the author for the advance copy of this unforgettable book.

I adored this book. A beautifully-written high-fantasy with Lord of the Rings vibes, immersive worldbuilding and complex magic systems. The world is so vividly detailed that it felt like I was really there.

The story follows Kailorien, an immortal God of war, and Auryn, the fallen star that Kailorien releases too early. At its core, this is a slow-burn love story, the kind of love that feels epic and timeless, filled with devotion and yearning. There is some spice, which was beautifully written and emotion-focused. I really felt how much Kailorien cares for Auryn - and his fear and desperation whenever he wants to protect her. He is the character who changes most throughout the book - both learning how to let himself be loved, and that he can't limit the choices of those he loves to protect them. This is the first book in a series and sets up the wider threats, and there are some epic battle scenes as well that are wonderfully described - you can feel the chaos of it and the character's emotions. The fantasy monsters are also original and definitely fear-inspiring!

I connected with Auryn's character the most - because she was awakened too soon, her body is fragile, which causes her challenges. Despite this, she is immensely powerful, and I also loved her inner strength and maturity. The book explores themes of identity and belonging, and this shows most through her character. Through the book, she remains true to herself and I really liked that she doesn't diminish herself to fit in to the new environment she finds herself in. To me, Auryn's character was a reminder that power and potential doesn't have to be physical strength, and challenges and disabilities don't define you. It was also great to see representation of disability in a strong character. I felt her physical challenges were portrayed realistically and were relevant to the story.

I also really liked the side characters, Zarrek and Thessia. Thessia is a badass warrior with a softer side and Zarrek has a lot of depth. It was actually Zarrek's story of grief that made me cry. There's a lot of nice moments and great banter between them and the main characters and I really appreciated seeing a deep male friendship (Kailorien and Zarrek) as a focal point.

This really felt like an epic fantasy, and is now one of my favourite books in the genre. Ravenna's writing is incredible, it's lush and vivid, it really drew me in from the first page and I couldn't stop reading. Reading Breath of Starlight was a magical experience and the story has stayed with me long after I finished reading it.

Breath of Starlight by Ravenna Vale ✨⚔️
This epic fantasy debut completely swept me into its world.

Told through multiple POVs, Breath of Starlight delivers expansive world building, a unique magic system, and a romance that feels both epic and deeply emotional. The writing is lyrical and immersive, yet I never felt overwhelmed by the world building, battle scenes, or romance. Everything flowed beautifully together.

Auryn is such a compelling FMC. She is fragile but incredibly powerful, and what I loved most about her is how honest she is. She speaks her mind, protects those she loves without hesitation, and throws herself into danger when the world needs her. She is fierce in a quiet but undeniable way.

And then there is Resh… the yearning in this man is truly next level. As the king’s right hand and the God of War, he carries immense weight on his shoulders, yet the story gives us so much insight into who he is and why he acts the way he does. I loved how much time was spent exploring his personality and motivations.

Their story begins when Resh pulls Auryn from the stone, and from that moment their connection feels almost inevitable. The book lists them as fated mates, but the relationship also carries strong forbidden love and forced proximity energy. They are tethered together in a way that makes it impossible for them to stay apart.

The side characters were also incredible. Bloodletter and Lioness were absolute standouts for me. Not only do we get to know them as characters, but seeing Resh and Auryn through their POVs added so much depth to the story.

The only reason this wasn’t a full five star read for me comes down to a bit of miscommunication between the main characters. We hear from multiple perspectives how deeply they love each other, yet they both struggle to voice those feelings out loud. That’s a personal trope preference for me rather than a flaw in the story itself.

The ending doesn’t leave us on a cliffhanger, but it absolutely sets the stage for what’s coming next. I already can’t wait for book two and rumor has it we won’t have to wait too long.

It’s honestly hard to believe this is a debut. Ravenna Vale created something truly special here and I cannot wait to see what she does next.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to @ravennavale for the ARC of Breath of Starlight. This book feels like a once in a lifetime story that you won’t ever be able to stop thinking about.

This was a fast 5-star read for me. I was excited to dive into this story but the lyrical prose and fantastical themes had me from the very first page to the last.

✧ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆ ✧ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆ ✧ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆ ✧

𖤓 Breath of Starlight encapsulates everything that I’ve ever loved about fantasy. It seamlessly brings elements of dying worlds, magic and love, weaving these flawlessly into a book about strength, disability and kinship. Breath of Starlight felt like holding magic in the palm of my hand. Ravenna turns her ideas and imagination into liquid stardust, every word felt like a carefully placed constellation in the sky. Her mastery of language felt like the steady glow of moonlight lighting these pages up with beautiful prose and lyrical narrative.

𖤓 The characters of this book have carved their way into my soul in a way I wasn’t expecting. I fell fast into the love that Resh and Auryn held for one another. One word comes to mind describing the relationship that unfolds between them and that is devotion. Pure, unadulterated devotion. Resh would fall to his knees and worship at the altar that is Auryn for all eternity, and it is exquisite as a reader to watch.

𖤓 I will carry these characters and their stories with me, especially Auryn’s. Auryn’s story isn’t unlike many of ours. As a disabled person myself, her journey meant everything to me. In a dying world where strength has always been attributed to size, stature and physical prowess, Auryn shows us that strength has many forms. Strength can burn bright and blinding like the sun, it can be calm and gentle like the moon, or it can be anything in between. “The moon is fierce in its own way.”

𖤓 Breath of Starlight is as brutal as it is beautiful. We can find light in a dying world if we look for it hard enough. We find it in kinship, in quiet community, in unknowable struggles and resilience. It speaks to finding the inner light in ourselves and steadfast knowledge that just because a society may deem us as “lesser” or “other” doesn’t make it so. “A word spoken on the wind doesn’t change the person standing against it.”

𖤓 May we all have Auryn’s strength when people look at us like we are weak, when the world tries to push us into glass jars that don’t fit us or when someone asks with venom, “what are you?” To respond, “I am myself and no one can tell me not to be”
