Losers Club #6

Leuchtturm Brodie: Ein Schottisches Losers Club-Mordrätsel (Band 6)

Rate this book
Fit a sotter! The Major Investigations Team is on the island and Sergeant Wilson is a woman on a mission. She must solve the murder of the lighthouse keeper before the MIT eat all the good police biscuits. The DCI might have ordered her to do door-to-door enquiries, but she was la-la-la-not-listening at the time. Convinced that the answer lies in Beacon Brodie’s mysterious past, she has instead conscripted the best of the Losers Club minions to discover the truth. In the meantime, Gordon and Jim (the Z team) are relegated to discovering the identity of the Vik Vigilante, a shadowy figure exacting revenge on the citizens of Vik. Why did a celebrity appear naked behind an ornamental magnolia in the garden centre? Who forced a journalist to eat his own words? And…gasp…could the vigilante be the killer? As the Losers Club friends uncover a midden of lies and deceit, they realise that something far more sinister is at play, and sometimes the truth is best left buried.

I’m the bestselling author of the Losers Club murder mysteries, a Scottish crime series featuring the questionable decision-making of a weight-loss group determined to outwit the police, and the directness of every Aberdeenshire mam ever.

The series has attracted thousands of reader reviews, been optioned for TV, and Game of Trust was shortlisted for the Comedy Women in Print Prize.

I also write the soon to be released DI Hunter Deed series, set in Aberdeenshire, where the crimes are darker and the investigation is considerably more professional. But aye, there’s still a dollop of Scottish humour in there.

Away from murder, I’m the woman behind the Facebook blog Growing Old Disgracefully and the Hear Me Roar podcast and stage show.

I live in the North East of England and can frequently be found roaming the local parks, shouting for my two Jack Russells escape artists. I have a slightly obsessive brain that gobbles up everything it needs to know on a subject then moves on, which can lead me down some interesting rabbit holes when I’m researching my books. If you ever need to know about the history of Argyle socks, I’m your woman.

Number 6 in the Losers Club series and I’ve read them all but this will definitely be my last. Boring, insipid, just plain awful. It put me to sleep more than once.

I had actually forgotten #5 which I had told myself would be my last so I need to write down no more so I don’t accidentally buy #7 when it comes out. The “jokes” are stupid and it is very hard to believe that everyone in the town could be so dumb but it appears they are.

Save yourself a week of misery and pass this book by.

These books are always easy reading but Jim is seriously starting to grate. Given he’s “the island vet” why are there so many people with animals he’s seemingly never met? Why isn’t he well-used to dealing with aggressive animals and people? Why is he so easily disgusted by bodily functions and bad smells? And why is he willing to risk his license by giving sleeping pills to a dog when he’s got a cupboard full of animal sedatives? I think he’s lying about being a vet.

Another cracking mystery

And now we have to wait for Penny's answer along with Jim.
Seriously, if you haven't read "The Losers club" series you are missing out.
Not only are they an emotional rollercoaster, with incredible mysteries, they teach at least two other languages.

So much fun to read. Poor Penny is not going to have any body parts left unscathed. I do hope she finally married Jim. I think Sgt Wilson may be mellowing. Jim has to be the star in this book though. His mouth just kept on spewing forth insult after sarcasm. Thoroughly enjoyable, I love all the characters.

The characters are so believable. The nick names for them all are just excellent. Couldn't out the book down. Was awake until the early hours giggling away. Would highly recommended.

I really like this series, it doesn't take itself too seriously :). Sergeant Wilson persuades the Losers Club to help her solve the latest case before fudmuppet screws it up entirely. The interactions between all different characters are really funny and have brightened my afternoon 🌞

I really enjoy listening to these books whilst on a long car journey. They are laugh out loud. I’ve listened to all 6 so far and have enjoyed the characters. The swearing is amusing and adds to the charm.

Took me longer than normal to get into it, but really did when I'd gotten past the first 2 chapters. Enjoyable like the rest of the series

Beyond Excellent!

This one has as many unexpected twists (all reasonable) as the first one, with as much laugh-out-loud humour as the second one. I loved every page. My only gripe is that I now have to wait for the next one. We'll, Mrs V, do you need a free proof-reader?
