Do you hear the voices? Listen if you dare . . . You’ll get both the heebies and the jeebies in this unsettling new title.
A henpecked husband learns that “till death do us part” isn’t the end of the story when his dead wife returns.
A newly retired couple uncovers a pestilent secret buried beneath their dream home.
A young woman retreats to the countryside to discover herself, only to stumble upon an unsolved tragedy calling out for justice.
Voices Carry Here is a collection of short stories steeped in mystery, suspense, and the supernatural. Set against the beauty of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, these tales will reveal secrets just beneath the surface of tranquil lakes, cries for help echoing from shadowed campgrounds, and small-town characters experiencing extraordinary circumstances.
Blending chills with warmth, author Gail Galotta’s flair for supernatural suspense is tempered with touches of humor, romance, and nostalgia.
An interesting collection of stories. Voices Carry Here - 4 1/2 stars - loved the twist at the end. A Manual for Purgatory - 5 stars - enjoyed the humorous revenge. The Missing Boy - 4 1/2 stars - found this to be tragic and touching. Vintage Spin - 4 stars - a more psychic touch to this one with all the old items, movies, etc. Any Combination Wins - 4 stars - taking chances at a carnival game leads to unexpected results. Strike Three - 5 stars - sort of knew what was happening but enjoyed this creepy doll story. Where Hope Lies - 4 stars - question of how life goes on and who we miss or don't miss. The Marriage Clause - 5 stars - ghostly wife returns to her husband with a fun twist at the end. Double Vision - 4 1/2 stars - aged men seeing more friends pass on with a psychic twist. The Pestilence House - 5 stars - this was another one I found touching with the ghostly visits and honoring them.
Well worth the read.
I received a copy through RABT, and this is my unsolicited review.
If you love a good ghost story, grab a copy. These tales unfold in upper Michigan amid tranquil lakes and campgrounds. The past if restless spirits don’t give up and want revenge. Good read.
Voices Carry Here is one of those collections that feels like slipping into a shadowed clearing at dusk — familiar enough to step into, but threaded with an unease that prickles at the edges. Gail Galotta blends mystery, melancholy, and the supernatural with a lightness of touch that makes each story feel both eerie and unexpectedly tender.
The trio of tales offers a lovely range of tones. The henpecked husband haunted by a wife who refuses to let death end the conversation is darkly funny in that wry, shiver‑inducing way. The retired couple discovering something foul beneath their dream home leans into creeping dread, the kind that builds slowly and settles under your skin. And the young woman seeking solitude in the countryside — only to find herself drawn into an old tragedy still whispering for justice — brings a quiet emotional resonance that lingers.
What ties the stories together is the setting: Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, rendered with a sense of beauty that makes the supernatural feel entirely plausible. Tranquil lakes that hold secrets, campgrounds where cries echo a little too long, small‑town characters brushing up against the extraordinary — the landscape becomes a character in its own right, serene on the surface and restless underneath.
Galotta’s style is warm even when the subject matter chills. There’s humour threaded through the hauntings, a touch of romance, a nostalgic softness that keeps the darkness from overwhelming the reader. It’s the kind of supernatural suspense that doesn’t rely on shock, but on atmosphere — on the feeling that something is just out of sight, waiting to be heard if you dare to listen.
Unsettling, inviting, and quietly haunting, Voices Carry Here is a charmingly eerie collection perfect for readers who enjoy their mysteries with a whisper of the otherworldly and a heartbeat of humanity.

What I liked most about Voices Carry Here was that the stories felt creepy in a quiet and realistic way. The book did not depend on violence or big horror scenes to create fear. Instead, the suspense slowly grows while reading, and that made the stories feel more emotional and believable to me.
I also loved the setting. The forests, lakes, and small towns in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula created a cold and lonely atmosphere that matched the ghost stories perfectly. Sometimes, the places felt peaceful, but at the same time something always felt strange underneath.
I especially liked that the characters felt like normal people with real problems. Many of them were dealing with loneliness, grief, or emotional pain even before the supernatural events started. Because of that, the ghost stories felt more personal and human.
These are stories that blend horror, psychological suspense, and the paranormal. They are part mystery and part drama. It’s hard to balance these disparate elements, but here we have an author who does so effortlessly. These tales are atmospheric and perfect for reading on dark nights or during a rainstorm. They will capture the imagination and send chills down your spine.
Though standalone episodes, they also have some common themes. Characters have secrets, seek revenge, and often give in to their worst impulses. Like Clive Barker or Stephen King at their best, the ideas at play in these pages reveal what we’re most afraid of. Horror fans are in for a treat, but you may find yourself sleeping with the light if this is your idea of suitable bedtime reading.
Oh my goodness, I loved this book. I'm usually one to keep my spooky scary type stories for around Halloween, but this one caught my eye and I had to read it. It goes over 10 different stories about all the supernatural and scary things that go bump in the night. This books is like like the videos you see at 10 o'clock at night when you should be going to bed, but you just have to keep watching and then when you close your eyes, you feel like somebody's watching you. Don't read these when you're laying in bed. Make sure that it's the middle of the day and you have your teddy bear to hold on tight.

I particularly enjoyed how each story builds tension through unexpected twists and unsettling details, creating a lingering sense of mystery long after the final page. Really phenomenal collection of stories. I particularly enjoyed the tititular story "Voices Carry Here", "Vintage Spin", "The Missing Boy", and "Strike Three", which had me looking over my shoulder in an empty gym. I HATE dolls.
Delightfully spooky with intense imagery and a nice variety of subject matter.
