Leaves of Gold and Silver

Rate this book
A thief-turned-spy who should be dead. A noblewoman with a secret. A second chance at love.

Mae Zavien lost her betrothed six months ago to the war that almost destroyed her land. Determined to avenge his death and ensure no one else suffers such a loss, she works under the cover of night to gather secrets, spy on the enemies trying to infiltrate her home, and foil their schemes. What she doesn't anticipate is how those enemies always seem one step ahead.

Bren Tallich should be dead in the dungeon of an enemy stronghold. Unfortunately, being alive doesn't grant him the chance to tell the love of his life that he survived. The fighting may have ended, but the war still rages, and the thief-turned-reformed spy is needed to uncover secrets and discover who is behind the attempt to take over all six lands. If Mae learns he survived, her life could be in even greater danger.

The shadows around Zavien Estate don't just hide secrets--they hide enemies who seek to destroy everyone who opposes them, Mae and Bren included. Only a former thief, a quiet noblewoman, and a menagerie of chaotic siblings and pets stand between their land and those who wish to destroy it.

Leaves of Gold and Silver is a nonmagical Christian romantasy retelling The Twelve Dancing Princesses and includes the tropes second chance romance, found family, arranged marriage, protective hero, nobility x commoner, and concealed identity.

Oh, I really enjoyed this one! What a great New Adult retelling!

Characters:
Mae was a darling! I loved her so much, and in some ways, she reminded me of myself...lol...and her sisters were so fun! Pepper was hilarious! And Evangeline and Wren were darlings!
Bren! Oh, I loved Bren and could have read so much more from his POV...lol...
Okay, if Andrew doesn't get his own story, I will be upset. *crosses arms* I demand it!
Roderick should get his own too...he was great! Oh, maybe Roderick and Lainey??? I feel like they would pair well! Or Lainey and Andrew! Just please something for all of them!
Also, Theo and Pepper! Yes, please! Those are my 3 requests!
All the side characters were very nice and super sweet or evil...and the twists were unpredictable. Quite enjoyed this read!

Romance:
A beautiful second-chance romance in the most endearing way possible! Seriously, so sweet! A few kisses, hugs, nothing super detailed.

Langauge:
N/A

Magic:
N/A

Violence/Gore:
Attempted murder, injuries to pets, talk of torture, beating, miscarriage in the past discussed briefly, some brief mentions of blood...nothing overly detailed and all handled well.

Overall:
I really enjoyed this story and all the characters! Miss Featherwell and Sir Soot were both adorable, and I loved their moments in the story as well! This was a great start to a new series from Carlin!
