The match was struck… …and Europe and Asia burned. The world was set on fire…
April 30, 2033—the day World War III erupted in the open. Across Europe and Asia, the fragile illusion of restraint shattered as missiles, drones, and armor surged forward in coordinated fury.
In Eastern Europe, EDEP armored formations thundered across Poland like a steel storm. Their objective was the Vistula River. If it fell, so would the heart of NATO’s eastern defenses. Tank battles, manned and robotic, raged across shattered towns and muddy fields as outnumbered defenders fought to slow an enemy built for mass, speed, and annihilation.
In the Baltic, control of the sea meant survival. From the Estonian island of Saaremaa, precision HIMARS strikes rained down on enemy logistics hubs, severing supply lines and turning ports into burning wreckage. Every rocket bought time—but time was running out.
Farther north, Finland faced its reckoning. As Russian VDV paratroopers descended over Kotka, the ancient spirit of Sisu was tested in brutal close combat. Both sides raced to seize the bridges over the Kymi River, knowing whoever held them would decide the fate of southern Finland.
And in the far north, the war turned cold—and savage.
EDEP forces surged into the Bering Sea, seizing Attu, St. Lawrence, and St. Paul in a lightning Arctic offensive. With the Bering Sea and Aleutian chain falling one island at a time, only the 5th Marines dug in at Adak and Dutch Harbor stood between the enemy and total control of the Arctic and North Pacific.
Could NATO hold the line in Europe? Would the Arctic become the enemy’s gateway to the Americas? And how much fire could the free world endure before it broke?
Find out in Operation Ice & Fire, the third explosive installment of the A World on Fire series—a chillingly plausible military technothriller, where global war collides with ice, steel, and human will.
Grab your copy today—and brace for the coldest fight yet.
This series is packed with action but the storyline has advanced slowly after four books. I'm surprised by the lack of participation, or total absent from the Adak theater, of the USA ait force. After all, the EDEP invading force look like sitting ducks in the water. Most of the storyline with Torres tank platoon is them retreating. Captain Mercedes wife evacuations storyline looks superfluous if you look at the overall plot. At the pace the, story is told, it would take more than 10 books to reach a climax in the storyline.
I am currently reading Operation Fire and Ice written by one of our members (James Rosone), which is scheduled to be released on 28 April 2026. I was fortunate enough to be included on Rosone's beta read team and was sent a copy.
I have really enjoyed Rosone's past series - especially World War III, Red Storm, and the Monroe Doctrine - as I've have always enjoyed a storyline that reads like it could have been taken from tomorrow's headlines.
Operation Ice & Fire is the third installment in James Rosone’s A World on Fire series, a military technothriller that depicts a global conflict where modern warfare meets extreme Arctic conditions (This book is part of a four-book series that includes The Gotland Deception (Book 1), The Suwalki Crisis (Book 2), and the upcoming The Palawan Gambit (Book 4)).
This novel, thus far, appears to be a reactionary action by the Russians after their plan (Operation DragonBear) was spoiled by the Chinese PLA attacking Taiwan prematurely.
Operation Dragonbear (alternatively referred to in some contexts as the "Dragon-Bear Alliance") represents the coordinated military offensive and strategic alliance between China (the Dragon) and Russia (the Bear).
This joint operation focuses on a massive, multi-front assault against NATO and the United States, specifically:
Arctic Offensive: EDEP (Eurasian Defense Economic Partnership) forces—the unified Chinese and Russian military—launch a "lightning Arctic offensive". They seize strategic islands in the Bering Sea, including Attu, St. Lawrence, and St. Paul, attempting to turn the Arctic into a gateway for an invasion of the Americas.
Northern Front: The alliance tests Western defenses in the far north, forcing a brutal confrontation with Finnish forces and U.S. Marines dug in at Adak and Dutch Harbor.
European Theater: The operation coincides with Russian VDV paratrooper drops over Kotka, Finland, and armored surges across Poland toward the Vistula River to shatter NATO's eastern defenses.
The term highlights the unification of these two superpowers to challenge Western hegemony through high-tech, synchronized warfare involving both manned and robotic systems. This book (and the whole series) will quickly become a fan-favourite for those aficionados of military technothrillers, political thrillers, and military science fiction. Anyone who has read (dare I say, "classic") authors such as Tom Clancy, Larry Bond, and Dale Brown should definitely give this author a read.
On my five-star scale, I would give this novel the elusive five star rating that I think that it deserves based upon the realistic military scenarios, strategic planning, and modern warfare technology. This is a definite page-turner.
As with all my literary ramblings, this is just my five cents' worth.
I would agree with previous reviewer - this story is advancing very slowly. Reason for the one star is that I resent the business idea of spinning this story out into 5 books. Four at GB£10 each after paying a reasonable Kindle price of £5 for the first. So the reader is drawn in by the cheap first volume, and then expected to pay a further £40 to see the end of the story … a story that would fit nicely into a maximum of two volumes, or one really good read. I’m not that interested and won’t be paying for the last two books. Shame as, of course, I have wasted my money reading the first part of the series.
As a long-term reader of veteran author James' stuff - nigh on eight years! - I can see a return to roots with this one. Boots on the ground, a sense of worldwide dread in the grander scheme of things and current warfare trends right on centre stage.
Admittedly, I did not think so highly of the previous two books. They have their moments indeed, and are miles better than most stuff being released. But they tended to bog down i long expositions and world building - lotta tell and little show. Well, now the "show" part is increasing, and now it's starting to... well... show!
It doesn't seem possible, but the story gets better !!
Wow, this was another excellent edition to the series. I lose sleep when these come out, can't stop turning the pages. I am eagerly anticipating the next installment.
Outstanding. Superb tactical and strategic storylines and actions. This a page turner and I could not put this book down. I highly recommend this entire series in addition to their previous Monroe Doctrine and Rise of the Republic series. All are spectacular and will not disappoint.
A well thought out and fast paced book covering the war from Europe to Alaska & beyond. A great read with accurate technology & tactics set against a believable plot. Worthy follow on from the previous books in the series.
Another great read from another great series. This is the kind of realism that makes the stories more engaging and offers the reader a chance to try to relate to impossible situations the characters face. James is the best!
As always, great character development and technical details. For those of you who have read Howard Colyle’s Team Yankee, (get it and read it if you haven’t) this series brings that small unit detail set across a global stage. Looking forward to the next episode!
A great read. Exciting and informative from beginning to the end. Can’t wait for the last book in the series! Well done authors! Kept me on edge from beginning to end!
James Rosone has done it again another great, action packed book. I love these books and can hardly wait for the next book. Absolutely great books, highly recommend these books.
