Rus doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with punching bigots. Some call it anger issues or impulse control; he sees it as clearing away the cesspool of hateful idiots. All the same, he doesn’t want his rage to control him or push away the two people he’s beginning to care deeply for.
Dylan’s façade of joy is so masterful, he even deceives himself most days. Underneath that worn smile, though, is a frightened man who doesn’t trust the world. Now, he has to navigate taking care of the queer youth home that gave him a life worth living while exploring the life he’d like to live if he wants to pursue romance in this new relationship.
Kaiden struggles to accept himself, wayward and insecure most days. So, when two men express how much they see him, he feels like a complete and total imposter. He’s convinced himself this awkward throuple would be a much happier couple if he took a step back. But despite his reservations, he doesn’t want to give up.
These three will have to come together, work through their personal fears, and be real with one another if they hope to explore this romance.
MN Bennet is a high school teacher, writer, and reader. He lives in the Midwest, still adjusting to the cold after being born and raised in the South.
He enjoys writing paranormal and fantasy stories with huge worlds (sometimes too big), loveable romances (with so much angst and banter), and Happily Ever Afters (once he’s dragged his characters through some emotional turmoil).
When he’s not balancing classes, writing, or reading, he can be found binge watching anime or replaying Baldur's Gate 3 for the millionth time.
Politics and Poly may seem like just a good time, but there is such deep and important messaging within. Rus' methods of sharing these messages and his manner of dealing with opposition isn't the best, he's doing his best to stand up for what's right. Society has made such vast improvements in so many manners, but the LGBTQIA+ community still faces such stigma, even violence, and it's terrifying.
I really had a great time reading this one, it's a quick read, but I feel like some of the depth of the characters was missing. Maybe it was the time jumps, maybe it was the perspective switching, but these men didn't feel fully immersive to me. Regardless, I emjoyed their story and I'm super glad I had the chance to give it a read. If you're into MMM relationship exploration, definitely give this one a read!
“…remind him that support does not detract from independence”
This entire novel really does remind us all of how true that is. The way Kaiden, Rus and Dylan connected was gradual and natural, never rushing each other and the communication between them was incredible. Each of them carried their own personal pain but didn’t make it their whole personality, which can happen when authors try to give characters depth. They formed a bond that wasn’t solely based on physical chemistry and when these 3 opened up more emotionally they grew closer in a way that didn’t feel rushed or unrealistic. They felt like real people, that either you know or saw parts of yourself in.
Even the side characters had enough depth for you to either love them (Jasmine and Daysha were my faves) or absolutely hate them (yeah, I’m looking at you Emma, Landon and Kaiden’s “family”).
Personally, Kaiden holds my heart. He was my favourite character hands down. He just left such an impression I think he’ll stay with me forever. Not only because he was well written but because it sometimes felt like I was reading some of my own life experiences.
We can’t forget Rus and Dylan, who are the ideal boyfriends and had each other’s backs in so many ways “wink wink”. The three of them communicated openly and were vulnerable, even when it was hard to be. Plus, who doesn’t love a short king with a spicy attitude and a sweet smiling guy who goes all assertive when you mess with one of his boyfriends?! Sign me up now! ;)
I really hope everyone gives this story a chance. Though I am not part of this community, I can honestly say there were experiences and emotions that rang true to me while reading, which I think many of us can relate to. There were laughs, rage, and even some tears, I mean, who could ask for more?!
I’ll leave this review with one of my favourite moments/quotes from Kaiden’s POV.
“This time, when Kaiden stepped out of his former home, he didn’t feel like he was running away. He felt like he was dropping the anchors that had been tied around his neck all these years”
This book was a whirlwind of feelings for me. I cried, I laughed, and some side characters made me so angry that I wanted to punch something.
I went on a journey of healing with Rus, Dylan, and Kaiden. It was really a hurt/comfort situation, first full of anxiety and uncertainty, but then full of passion and love and being free and happy. Each one of them is a hero to me, but especially Kaiden stands out for me the most. You have to read the book to understand why 😊
As the title says, it is also political. So be aware that you get educated and learn a lot in the process 😊. I really liked the aspect!
It is such a wonderful story! I 100% recommend it!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶🌶
I thank MN Bennett for the advanced copy of his newest book 🫶
✨this is my first ARC review and I couldn’t more excited!✨
so, first of all, I’m a sucker for books that can make me laugh, swoon, AND cry. this book definitely had me in my feels and I loved it! it also made me sit back and reflect on what’s going on in the world (even more than I already do) and I’m so glad there are authors out there like MN Bennet that can create a piece of fun fiction while also incorporating serious real life issues like homophobia, body dysmorphia, unsupportive family members and more.
now.. onto the boys 🤭 Rus, Dylan and Kaiden are our MC’s and I loved each of them and their little quirks! I really related to Kaiden as far as having issues with my body as well as having anxiety.. I’m also the one who would more likely to be drawing video game characters rather than playing the actual video game with my friends (or in this case, boyfriends 😏). Rus is a total badass who I feel like no matter his height, I would feel super safe around, and Dylan is just the sweetesttttt.
if you’re into hilarious queer teens, being on the correct side of history, a healthy and realistic portrayal of a poly relationship, suggestive yet funny text messages, some spicy MMM and drag queens that save the day.. this book is for you! 🤍 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
*I just had to add that I NEVER read third person POV as I tend to not like it but I actually really enjoyed it here!*
I recieved an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review
First I have to say I absolutely adore the cover art. Always stunning every time.
So there's a lot in this one. This is both a love story that explores poly relationships and the author's personal scream against the current injustices being experienced in the world right now, especially towards marginalized groups like the LGBTQIA+ community.
That being said this does read a bit slow as we are introduced to all three characters and learn about them. Don't get me wrong I absolutely adore them all and navigating a polyamorous relationship is a bit more tricky than a monogamous one. It does take half the book for any of them to even kiss.
The scene with the gay bashers felt a bit unnecessary? Or at least without ever having anything come of that kind of left me still feeling bitter about it. The real world sucks and i know thats the point behind this, but can we please get some justice since we are being denied it in real life right now?
When Rus goes home to his parents the first time I also don't get why they aren't there? They asked him to visit, it was a multiple day trip, you'd expect him to call ahead so why wouldn't they be there? A minor thing but it was just confusing is all.
oh and I have mixed feelings about the Rus and his ex having a kid situation. I would either liked to have seen more with that or it be removed.
I feel Rus' rage and the desire to throw hands at bigots IMMENSELY. As a heavy person I feel Kaiden's body images IMMENSELY (I do love me a man in a corset though, have you SEEN those ads? Mmm.) And I know I said earlier the gay basher incident felt it didn't add anything coz it sort of got forgotten for the most part after, a drag queen street fight was pretty dang cool.
I love the spice, I adore main throuple, the supporting side characters were mostly fine, the problem characters pissed me off (like they are intended to haha) and the Bend Him Break Him cameo at the end was absolutely fabulous haha I loved that.
A few minor spelling and grammar errors, I give it 4 stars with a potential to become 5 with a bit more tweaking and polish
thank you so very much to the author for this opportunity, I enjoyed this book and look forward to seeing the full release.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Even though this was a good book, I did realize I have a small trigger after reading this book. I have not read it in any book previously, but spoiler alert, reading about someone being brutally attacked due to homophobia is not my thing.
Now, besides that one scene, I enjoyed this book. I love how all three of them decided to just make it work and were there for each other and all the ways they needed. All three main characters had their own hiccups and baggage, and I loved how they just accepted each other and loved each other.
Part of me feels like I want to fact check some things in this book because there were quite a few conversations that were had that I found very interesting and made me want to learn more. I loved how it wasn’t just a love story, but there were quite a few times that made you stop and really think about what they were talking about. I loved Rus‘s point of view on life and I feel like he brought a new perspective to the reading.
All in all, this was an enjoyable book to read. I’ve read quite a few other books by this author, and I will say I have not been disappointed.
I was lucky to get an ARC of this book and it did not disappoint!!!
First of all, I love the characters so much! I really relate with them in different aspects. They felt real and I loved the growth and how they find their path and space individually and also in their relationship.
Rus is so feasty and so sure about what it is worth to fight for! I love this kind of character because I dont usually see them on contemporary romance and it surprised me in a good way🔪🪿
Dylan is so sweet and so dedicated and a really good friend and supportive partner.
And then we have Kaiden who is a very sensitive and caring and I want to protect him with my life.
The relationship is so open and they have so much communication that it is refreshing !! Also the lack of internal conflict between them is so appreciated!
I love healthy and cute romances where the mmcs just support each other and enjoy how to navigate the relationship in such a green flag type of way !!
It was totally the type of contemporary romance that I have ver craving: cute, sexy, healthy and with a dose of politics and a message to fight for our rights, so important in this crazy reality 😩🙌
This is not a comfortable book. It is brutal. It is raw. It is real. Politics and Poly doesn’t simply tell a love story, it forces you to confront the world its characters are living in. The social commentary is sharp and unflinching, rooted deeply in real-world issues that many in the queer community navigate every single day. The pain in this book hits hard because it isn’t fictionalized into something distant or dramatic, it mirrors lived realities, it reflects headlines, conversations, and the quiet exhaustion of existing in spaces that feel hostile. One of the most heartbreaking threads running through the story is the lack of safety at not only in the streets but at home as well. The author does not soften these edges of this reality, the ugliness is not sanitized for reader comfort. It is presented honestly, painfully, and with intention. And yet , this book is handled with extraordinary care. MN Bennet navigates this world with honesty without ever tipping into exploitation. The brutality serves a purpose. The commentary is woven naturally into the characters’ lives, never preachy, never performative. It feels lived-in. Necessary. There are reminders throughout the story that rights are fragile, that safety is not universal, that simply existing authentically can require immense courage. The lessons here are not delivered as lectures. They are truths embedded in the characters’ experiences. The kind that linger long after you close the book. What makes this story unforgettable, though, is the balance. For every act of cruelty, there is love. For every moment of bigotry, there is radical acceptance. The polyamorous dynamic becomes more than romance, it becomes sanctuary. Chosen family becomes resistance. Tenderness becomes rebellion. The characters’ understanding, protection, and unwavering support for one another stand in powerful contrast to the world trying to diminish them. This book hurts because it reflects reality. But it heals because it refuses to let hate have the final word.
Once sitting down and processing this book I have finally found the right words to describe it. There will be spoilers in my review if you don't want to know please don't read. Thank you, MN Bennet, for this amazing ARC read you did a breathtaking job with this book. Overall, I learned so much from this book, I learned that stand firm on your beliefs no matter what anyone says. Love who you want to because that is your right and there is no one right way. At the end of the day no matter how bad the world gets you are loved and wanted no matter what. If people don't feed you, finance you, or satisfy you they can choke on their opinion. An punching bigots is great stress relief, Rus would agree!!
This book was way more than I thought it could have ever been. It starts with introducing us to one of the MMC Rus who is a tiny tyrant with a heart of gold and a passion for speaking truths and standing firm on his beliefs. He defended a woman who was hit by a bigoted asshole, and he defended her by handling the bigots. He did receive legal troubles community service and anger management. This led to how he met the two amazing men he came to love Dylan and Kaiden. Now Dylan is a sweetie that constantly 2nd guesses himself. Yet he helps his friend jasmine run a home for LGBTQ teenagers whose parents have disowned them and Dorthys house have taken them in. Jasmien took Dylan in when he needed it, so he gives back. Now sweet Kaiden gosh I love him he has body and self-esteem issues, and he works himself to the bone to help his shitty ass family that doesn't appreciate him. Kaiden family was awful they used him especially his sister she was a shitty twat goblin that needed karma served instantly. Then Rus, Dylan and Kaiden got into a situation at the club and Rus an Kaiden got hurt they realized feeling were growing. It started slow and bloomed into the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. It took Kaiden a while to accept that he was worthy of love, but he got there. He finally trusted them enough to show them his body and full and the way Rus and Dylan showed how they loved him was breathtaking. I loved how they loved each other, and, in the end, they found a way to make things work. I will say thanks to Rus and Dylan they served Kaiden's family a harsh dose of reality telling them to F off and never contact Kaiden again. 3yrs later Kaiden and Rus had moved in together. Dylan took on more responsibility at the Dorthys house yet no matter what their love grew. They made it work no matter what. I love how Kaiden finally quit working so many f=jobs and found his place at Wicked Ink Tattoo. Now some side character I despised with a passion they took the twat Goblin award for dumbest dipping dot ever. Emma Alexander a red pill conservative that is disrespectful and spreads hatred and takes the bigot award times 10. She is a huge thorn in Rus side constantly. Then there is her friend Landon Cross who is a red pill gay man that is also a bigot. He completely disrespectful and spews yet I feel if he would think for himself, he wouldn't be as bad. Yet they get their karma they go on a vacation and Landon takes Emma's man and turns him to the MM side. I laughed so hard. Then there are some sweet characters I loved Daysha who is Rus friend she is so supportive and the best. Then Jasmine who owns Dorthys house and is the most amazing women she needs a Nobel Peace Prize for the love she shows and how she helps the LGBTQ Youth that's has been disowned and homeless. Allison who is Kaiden's boss and a good person that defends him. there were the kids from Dorthys house that were hilarious.
Quotes that made me laugh way to hard: "You sure you want to go with blue, pink, and purple? I get the whole Bi Pride blah blah blah, but your pasty ass face can't handle the colors without looking like a wrecked ass meth head pop star doll." - Miguel "F-Off Fruitcake!" - Chelsea "Not a fruitcake but a poundcake." - Miguel "More like a pounded-out cake!" - Chelsea "You two are about to be grounded out cake if you don't watch your mouth." -Jasmine
"No Big octopus polycule thing. Just Throuple." - Dylan
**This is an ARC review and reflects my honest opinion of the book "Politics and Poly" by M.N. Bennet.**
I read a lot of MM romance. It is the majority of the romance I read these days. I've also dabbled in MMM romance, but not enough to have any preconceived notions before reading Kaiden, Rus, and Dylan's story. So the first thing I will tell you is...this is not an MMM romance for those who like fairytale or idealistic romance. What I mean by fairytale is, there isn't prejudice, bigotry, internalized homophobia, etc, in the story. The world in which those stories exist is an idealized one where everyone accepts everyone.
This story is not that. And that's not a bad thing, at all.
Politics and Poly is about three people on their own individual journeys of self-discovery and self-love, who also find love with each other. The backdrop of this love story is a community where LGBTQIA+ are not always safe to be themselves in public, and, even with their own families. They hear awful, degrading, and disrespectful things about who they are as people to their faces. They are also assaulted for being themselves. It is important to accept that this is a current reality for the LGBTQIA+ community. If reading this causes you to be uncomfortable, think about why. But don't disregard it. Because once you get past that, you'll find a beautiful love story full of hope and acceptance.
Let's talk about the guys...
Kaiden...oh sweet Kaiden. He was my favorite and I wanted to give him a big hug and tell him there are people in the world who will love and accept him for who he is.
Dylan...is a sweetie pie and must be protected at all costs.
Russ...is the short king who will protect Dylan, and Kaiden, at all costs.
Together, the three of them make a wonderful poly relationship that works for them and doesn't fit societal norms. The spice is spicin'! The character development is great. And yes, there is politics in this story. If you want your romance to be an escapism, move along! This one is real, in your face, and beautiful. Accept it for what it is and enjoy it. I did! I'm sure you will to.
One last thing...LOVE the cameo in the epilogue. IYKYK....
I am not usually a romance reader, but the idea of a queer polycule being represented really intrigued me. The bisexual representation was refreshing, and the diversity in body sizes was as well.
For those worried that the “politics” part of this is extremely heavy, I would assure you it’s not as huge a part of the story as the title makes it seem. There are lots of topics that are considered political but are discussed within the context of a pretty good plot. There are a lot of tender, fluffy moments that balance out those moments, and the characters stories, especially Kaiden’s, were very compelling. There were some things in Kaiden’s POV that were a bit triggering, like his obsession with his weight, but he actively works on that and other emotional insecurities throughout the book. I liked all the boys individually and also felt they fit together as couple, despite the timeline itself moving a bit fast.
The spice was sexy and fit in well with the overall story, not like some romances where it overtakes the actual story.
There were some parts of the story that dragged a bit for me, but for people who enjoy the fluffy build up to relationships in books, it will probably be a bit more entertaining. Some of the characters felt very one dimensional, mostly the antagonistic ones, but they’re that way to represent many of the things the queer community deals with, so I understand why they had to be so stereotypically awful. I don’t think we ever really learn about Dylan’s backstory or his bout of homelessness or his family, so his story felt a bit incomplete. Also, painting Dylan as the “old man” of the group and him being 26… please 😭 this man called a gif a moving meme… PLS 😭😭 those of us over 25 understand social media & technology on that basic of a level lmfao. Just something that personally irritated me but maybe because I’m also old 🤪 if you like reasonable age gaps (21 - 24 - 26), this one is for you haha.
Overall, I would recommend this to romance readers, especially those who want the queer poly representation that drew me to the book.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ARC Review – Politics and Poly by M.N. Bennet
This book is basically “found family, righteous anger, healing trauma, and three men learning how to love each other properly,” and honestly? I ate it up.
What I appreciated most is that this isn’t just a throuple thrown together for vibes. The connection between Rus, Dylan, and Kaiden unfolds with intention. It builds through conversations, vulnerability, and messy honesty rather than instant chemistry alone. Their dynamic feels grounded in emotional safety, which made the romantic payoff feel earned.
Rus has a temper and zero tolerance for bigotry, but underneath that edge is someone trying very hard not to let anger define him. Dylan presents sunshine and steadiness, yet there’s a quiet fragility beneath the surface that slowly unravels as he lets himself be seen. And Kaiden? Kaiden absolutely stole my heart. His insecurity, his fear of being “too much” or somehow not enough, felt painfully real in a way that hit deeper than I expected.
The poly dynamic works because each relationship is nurtured individually while also strengthening the trio as a whole. No one is sidelined. No one feels like an accessory. The communication is intentional. The vulnerability is mutual. Watching them choose each other again and again was incredibly satisfying.
I also loved that the story doesn’t shy away from heavier themes. There’s anger. There’s past hurt. There are complicated family dynamics and the weight of living authentically in a world that doesn’t always make that easy. But there’s also humor, tenderness, and moments of pure softness that balance it beautifully.
I gave this 4 stars because I wanted just a bit more time in certain emotional moments, but overall this was heartfelt, thoughtful, and genuinely romantic.
If you love emotionally aware men, poly relationships built on trust, righteous “touch him and we riot” energy, and character growth that feels authentic, this one is absolutely worth picking up.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I started this for the Valentine’s vibes and ended up emotionally invested in three fictional boyfriends.
This was such a gooey, comforting story. The kind that leaves you warm and full like a fresh chocolate chip oatmeal cookie. I finished and just sat there holding my Kindle for a while, letting it settle. I even left my review half written in my drafts for days.
This book gave me cozy softness but also moments where I wanted to yell at the world and then immediately hug someone.
Kaiden absolutely wrecked me 🥺 His self consciousness hit really close to home. I’ve lived in the cycle of crash dieting, overworking my body, trying to be smaller, then learning how to exist after my body changed and figuring out how to be kind to myself again. Learning to eat and move for health instead of punishment is still something I work at. Watching him slowly accept affection and believe someone could love him as he is genuinely got me. I wasn’t just rooting for him. I felt protective of him.
Rus … I absolutely adored my short king 👑 tiny tank of chaos and very informed rage, but with such a soft heart underneath. Loud about what matters, protective in that immediate step-in way, and somehow still gentle with the people he loves. I saw a lot of myself there, 5 foot nothing and full of feelings and political fury.
And Dylan. Sweet sunny golden retriever energy ☀️ warm and gentle and just pure comfort… until someone messes with his boys and he goes full Doberman. Protective, firm, not playing around. And yes it was so hot lol That switch did something to me.
What stayed with me most was how much they cared about each other’s feelings. Nothing rushed, nothing forced. Every soft moment felt earned and it made all the little affectionate scenes hit harder.
I read most of this curled in my burrito blanket, squealing and kicking my feet every so often.
I laughed, I got teary eyed, I got mad, and when it ended I genuinely missed them 💞
First book by this author and I’m already planning my next read 📚
This book sadly didn’t click with me at all… which makes me really sad because I love throuples and stories about them.
As far as the guys go, I liked them a lot individually. I also enjoyed their individual POVs,I thought they were well done, and considering there are three of them, the author did a good job distinguishing their voices. Although I do think we missed Dylan a little bit…? I feel like we learned more about Kaiden and Rus, and not so much about Dylan. But anyway!
Unfortunately, I didn’t really feel the connection they were supposed to have. I saw them more as friends. I didn’t feel any real attraction between them. I know one of them mentioned developing a crush, but I didn’t feel like it went any deeper than that and it didn’t feel that serious to me. Then something happened and they got together, which felt a little rushed. Mostly because we didn’t see much of the “falling in love” part or anything that made it feel like they were developing genuine feelings for each other. It was mostly them hanging out either at a bar or at one of their places. And again, that could easily read as friends, so it didn’t feel particularly romantic.
I also had a hard time with the political side of it, but that’s 100% on me and not the author. I don't think anyone who lives in that reality will have a problem with it, I think I just strongly underestimated how big the cultural differences can be when it comes to the queer community and the issues we face. Personally, it was difficult for me to fully understand some of the situations presented. For example, the “villains” felt more like stereotypes to me, and I had trouble taking them seriously because my reaction was, “There’s no way people actually act like that.” But again, that could easily be someone else’s reality, and I wouldn’t want to invalidate that. I think it’s simply a cultural difference and not anyone’s fault, but because it’s a theme throughout the whole book, it did throw me off a bit.
This story was absolute perfections Kaiden, Rus, and Dylan are the cutest trio, they all have their own beautiful and unique personalities and they all come together so beautifully.
Rus is our chaotic fighty boy, right from the start our man is fighting bigots and we love him for it. When he meets Dylan and Kaiden he can't help but become attracted to both of them, and honestly who could blame him! He is truly our fierce bisexual short king, who will do anything and everything to stand up for those who can't stand up for themselves!
Dylan is our sweet baby who grew up with a hard life, from his parents abuse, to him running away at 14. After finding Dorothy's House and our sweet sassy Jasmine he found his home and a safe space, now grown up he throws himself into all he can to help Dorothy's House and the kids that are there.
Kaiden oh sweet baby Kaiden, as someone who struggles with their weight and self image I saw SO much of myself in him. Even when experiencing real love he questions it cause his looks, and cause how his family has treated him as he grew up and even now. An let me tell you.....we hate Kaidens family “Shut your fucking mouth, Sandra.” will be living in my head for WEEKS haha. Kaiden truly spoke to me cause so much of how he viewed himself, and how his family treated him was so similar to my life and I just wanted to hug him!
As someone who is polyamorous I always go into poly/why choose books a little hesitant, will the story feel like how media portrays this or will it feel like the real thing. And let me tell you! As someone who lives this life, the level of communication and love that these three had was so real. I truly want to thank MN for the care he put into the story, and the love that he wrote in these characters love story. Keep your eyes peeled for Politics and Poly releasing April 1st!
I was honored to receive an ARC of Politics and Poly by MN Bennett, and this book completely won me over with its heartfelt characters, authentic relationships, and a story that takes its time in the best possible way.
What stood out most to me were the characters. Kaiden’s struggles with self-image felt deeply real and relatable. Rus came across as the ultimate protector, steady and grounding, while Dylan was an absolute sweetheart who loves with his whole heart and brings so much warmth to the story. Their individual quirks made them feel like real people rather than just characters on a page.
One thing I truly appreciated was that this wasn’t an instant-fix or “insta-love” story. The relationships developed naturally, and the emotional growth—especially Kaiden learning to love himself first—was handled with patience and care. Watching Dylan and Rus support him through that journey was one of the most meaningful parts of the book and a beautiful portrayal of polyamory rooted in respect, communication, and love.
Politics usually isn’t my favorite theme, but Bennett managed to keep the issues relevant without overwhelming the reader or taking away from the heart of the story. The balance between personal relationships and larger social topics felt thoughtful and well-paced.
The side characters were just as memorable. From the teens at Dorothy’s House to the drag queens who absolutely stole their scenes, the supporting cast added color, humor, and depth to the world Bennett created.
I absolutely loved this book and cannot wait to read more from MN Bennett. Politics and Poly is a story about love in its many forms, growth, and finding family in unexpected places—and I highly recommend it.
Thank you to MN Bennett for providing an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.
Politics and Poly was a fantastic read. Please do read the trigger warnings as there are parts in the book that may not be for you. It does touch on topics that are so heartbreaking and knowing that people face this is completely devastating.
I absolutely love the three MCs in this story and how different each personality is but how they complement each other perfectly.
Rus is our short king who will quickly stand up for what he believes in and is not afraid to throw a fist to make his point.
Kaiden is the total sweetheart and would literally do anything for anyone even if they were to treat him like crap. Kaiden does struggle with body positivity but both Rus and Dylan are there to help make sure he knows his body is perfect the way it is.
Dylan looks happy on the outside but he has written himself off the the possibility of truly being happy and being open for love.
The way these three go from being friends to move was done so well. The night they **cough cough Rus** gets things going definitely threw a wrench into the mix they all were so conflicted on what that would mean and do for their friendship, thinking one person would be left behind do to norm relationship standards. However working out that a poly relationship could work with them and seeing how they navigate it. I really enjoyed that they didn't want to rush into things they all agreed they didn't need to live together to make it work that even if they spend time separately or with just two and not all three that everything would be okay as long as they all communicate. and boy do they communicate it's so refreshing to see couples actually communicate in a story.
I definitely recommend this book it will have you go through many emotions during it. And again please read trigger warnings before hand your mental health is always what comes first.
***ARC Review*** of Politics and Poly by M.N. Bennet
Politics and Poly is sharp, layered, and emotionally charged in a way that completely pulled me in. It balances political tension, complicated relationships, and poly dynamics with nuance and heart — and I was hooked from the start.
What I loved most is how intentional the character work feels. The contrast between personalities is clear early on, especially in moments like:
“For someone who spends so much time perfecting his look…”
There’s tension wrapped inside lines like that — attraction, irritation, admiration, all tangled together. The chemistry is immediate, but the emotional depth builds gradually, which makes the relationship development feel earned instead of rushed.
The book also subtly explores visibility versus concealment — emotionally and publicly. One line that really stuck with me:
“It was the perfect hidden nook to avoid passersby.”
That idea of hiding versus being seen threads through the story in such an interesting way, especially within the context of politics and identity.
The poly dynamic here doesn’t feel performative or surface-level. It feels layered, thoughtful, and grounded in communication and vulnerability. No one is reduced to a trope. Everyone has insecurities, strengths, and emotional weight. Watching trust build between them was one of my favorite parts.
There’s tension, there’s heat, there’s power dynamics — but there’s also softness and intention beneath it all. M.N. Bennet manages to make the political backdrop feel relevant without overwhelming the romance.
Overall, this was intelligent, emotionally engaging, and satisfying. If you enjoy poly romance with real character depth, political tension, and layered emotional growth, this one absolutely delivers.
kaiden is my baby 😭 i absolutely adore him. his struggles and self doubt made my heart hurt for him. even though he has such deep insecurities he isn’t afraid to stand up for himself or those he loves. i just want to give him the biggest hug.
rus who was referred to as a tiny tank in the book (which made me cackle) stole my heart as well. i’d like to say im well informed but i learned quite of few things from him. i truly enjoyed being in his pov.
dylan was a well done as well. i loved his dedication to his work and his little found family. his anxieties could be felt through the pages and i also wanted to hug him.
the side cast in this book made me want to rage tf out (looking at you emma, landon and kaiden’s family - specifically sandra) or made me die laughing and kicking my feet (miguel and daysha)
i loved how the polycule did what they want and made their relationship work for them. i also enjoyed how their relationship wasn’t just fluff. they each had boundaries that they weren’t willing to waver on. i loved seeing that in each pov where they said they liked xyz or disliked xyz or were ready for xyz and it wasn’t an issue. the communication was lovely. their relationship developed naturally over time, a slow burn that was absolutely sweet.
reading is absolutely political. i loved that m.n. wove some of the issues going on right now into the story. it never once felt like i was being talked at even when rus was letting people have it. it was refreshing to see and read about.
i know i said “i loved” a lot throughout this review 😅 but yeah if you didn’t know i loved this book and kaiden is my baby 😭♥️
this was my first book by m.n. benett but won’t be my last!
I was lucky enough to be picked as an ARC reader, thanks again!
Holy moly, first MMM romance and I just couldn’t put it down.
Not going to lie, third person writing normally does my head in but it just made sense here. Think I would have gotten lost to be honest!
As a straight female, I absolutely loved hearing the viewpoints of Rus and his beautiful community. Amazing work threading this through a romance novel.
Keeping on Rus, obsessed that the youngest clearly started getting the throuple thoughts. Rus in general was a complete vibe for me with a few well placed c words he was absolutely my spirit animal.
I connected to Kaiden the most, especially with body image after a weight loss. I’ve never experienced that connection with a character before so I’ve gotta say thank you. I cried with him and had to take a breath when certain things went down.
Dylan felt a little distant to me, I don’t know why. I didn’t connect with him as much and that’s okay! Adored his daddy vibes and the flowers!! Swooooooon. His and Kaiden’s friendship right at the beginning was just to die for, wish we dove into the transition from friend to more just a tad more!
Lana, Lana, Lana. I loved her, I loved her and Rus and a potential friendship there? I’d love to see her again. Their interaction warmed my heart.
THANK YOU for not having some big horrible event crush them or break them apart. This whole story was just sweet and beautiful and I loved every moment.
Peeped some character overlapping from previous works of the authors at the end and I absolutely remained chill and didn’t kick my legs like a child excited about candy 🫣😜😅
It’s always a pleasure to read a book with polyamorous representation, and it’s even more meaningful when it’s done so well. As a bisexual and polyamorous person, reading this kind of representation truly means a lot to me, and seeing it handled with so much care made the experience even more special.
I loved that the boys took the time to really think things through before jumping into a relationship, and that open communication was present from the very beginning.
Rus is such an easy character to love. Honestly, who hasn’t wanted to throw a punch at bigots at least once? Despite his explosive personality, he feels very mature for his age, and his past with his ex seems to have played a big part in that growth.
Dylan is a wonderful character as well. Knowing where he comes from and still choosing to put the other boys in the house first says so much about who he is. The world truly needs more Dylans.
And Kaiden… I don’t even know where to begin. I connected with him deeply, both with the way he thinks and with his insecurities. Over the past year, I’ve lost a significant amount of weight, and like him, there are days when looking in the mirror can feel like torture. I was so relieved and happy to see him escape the toxic environment he lived in with his family.
The communication between them deserves to be mentioned more than once: the way they share their thoughts, goals, and insecurities is beautiful. I enjoyed every interaction, every touch, kiss, and moment they shared.
Even the side characters are incredibly endearing, and it’s always a joy to read such diverse representation.
I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to be part of the ARC team
"Politics and Poly" by @mnbennetauthor a MMM romance set in modern day USA. It follows three friends as they start to develop romantic feelings for each other; all while dealing with unsupportive families, difficult college conservatives, and other cruel realities that queer individuals face in their daily lives.
It would be easy for this book to get too heavy and at first, I thought it was definitely heading there. But Bennet manages to balance the political and moral weight of the first half of the book with a lighter, more romantic second half.
Ratings: Overall: 4/5 hearts - It's a great book. It's equally entertaining and meaningful. I did find it heavier than I usually enjoy, thus the four hearts instead of five. But that's 100% personal preference.
Peppers: 3/5 - There is spice in this book. But there's not a lot. Spice is used as a little garnish, not the meal.
Spice: 5/5 - The spice that is there is great. It's sexy and rough and it's almost all THREESOMES so there's nothing for me to complain about.
Plot: 4/5 - The only complaint I have is that I wish there was a little more of a climax. The main storyline is the romance between the three characters and it really felt like once it got started, there really wasn't a friction point. Everything was just so smooth.

*I did receive an ARC of this book. However, this review is 100% honest and voluntary*

A Raw, Emotional Poly Romance with a Powerful Message This story follows Dylan, Kaiden and Rus. They are three queer men that are navigating friendship, love and the brutal reality of bigotry. These three find solace and strength in each other. Within the book it is described how trauma, activism and chosen family shape their relationships. Not only their relationship with each other but also with the broader queer community. Lets introduce our three boys real quick: Dylan works at a queer youth home where he once been a resident himself. He is dedicated to give back but struggles with his self worth and boundaries. Kaiden is a flamboyant art gallery worker. He has a sharp wit, but deep insecurities. His family is dismissive about his being. Rus is a bisexual college student with a short fuse but a heart of gold. He is currently serving community service after a brawl with bigots. He is the first to defend his friends even if that's at personal cost. After a violent hate crime at a gay club their dynamics shift from friendship to romance in a deeply emotional slow burn and delicious way. This book is a standout, it doesn't sugarcoat the realities of queer live. Kaiden's family, the court mandated anger management course and the violent attack at the club. In a lot of life's it is the brutal reality. The way that Bennet describes these situations are very well done. I was so angry on their behalf. The polyamore relationship that developed in the book isn't just about s3x, it is about learning to communicate, support and more. Doesn't mean that the spice isn't spicing.... Politics and Poly is more than a romance, it’s a love letter to queer resilience, a middle finger to bigotry, and a celebration of the messy, beautiful work of building a life on your own terms
4.75 A MMM romance where friends fall in love, a beautiful found family surrounds them, with love at its heart, justice in its veins & politics in its commentary. This story didn't just make me fall in love with the MCs but also made me thoughtful. This was heavy at times, not because it was too dark, but the situations the characters experienced were so real. I grabbed #ARC as I love triads! Also, did anyone else get dystopian fighters vibes from the cover 😅.
Rus (21) hates Bigots. R's surly, reckless yet compassionate, bold & honest. A fighter punk who's learning to manage his short-temper! The only college guy in trio. Dylan is happy-going, playful but also straitlaced, serious & gets cutely frazzled 🤭. I liked all in Dorothy's home & how D takes responsibility. Kaiden is fashionable, seems goofy & knows to have fun but underneath K's anxious with self esteem issues 🥹. K's fam is bad, tho only R's were good & we didn't even see them lol 😅.
I like how initial interest leads to blooming friendships & new feelings. I think I've mostly read insta-lust 😳. It was real yet weird to see attraction slowly develop, especially between D+K as they've been friends longer! They don't make lusty eyes at eachother but there's hints. I liked their dynamics & how they're yet similar in their worries 😅. It's slowburn, there's insecurities but it's not very angsty.
All 3 were on path of different self-discoveries which is realised after reading! They had issues to overcome while falling in love & gaining a care system 🥰. Poor K had it worst in present 🥹. The chemistry is hot but it's more so intimate than steamy. The love was balanced & sweet. But omg, we (—I) needed more vers pounding 🥹🥵. I liked the vulnerable talks & first times (but we didn't see all types 🥲) but it made me realise something about the writing style.
My qualm: author doesn't repeat info or some situation when I still want to see the other MC's reaction to it, if only 2 have talked of it. The talk happens off page—realistic—but I like to see it on page, or atleast get a cliff notes of it. I'm a sucker for confrontations & as we got many here 😂. We also never got to know how exactly D+K met 😭 even tho we got summary of how Rus met Daysha. I was hoping there'd be clues throughout so we can piece it together but all I got is they met by work, I think. I really WANTED that explained! I was so curious.
I agree with the author that we can have swoony romances & have deeper conversations about issues like homo/trans/fat-phobia & queer hate that is sadly still so prevalent. Those struggles were written well in this book. I loved the MCs & I wanted more of them too <3 We saw asshole parents so I wish we saw loving parents on-page too so we got a contrast! Cute epilogue.
This was a super fun read, I loved the dynamics between each of the boys and how they progressed. I thought it was amazing that it didn't gloss over the hard stuff, instead there were conversations about why these things mattered. And that it didn't feel like anyone was being forced to move quicker than they wanted to with both the emotional and physical intimacy which is something I find myself reading a lot of in the romance genre.
There was a really nice balance of three individual plots for each of the three main characters happening alongside the romance. While they weren't a key factor, it was nice to see how each little storyline would come to play out and how they would come to overlap at times.
Rus might (he definitely is) be my favourite of the three. His fun chaotic energy, but also his ability to be serious when needed was super fun to read. Kaiden was beautifully written, insecurities and all. I so appreciate how his problems didn't immediately go away the moment he got into a relationship but that it took time and reassurance. Dylan I think felt the least developed, but not in a bad way more of a mysterious way. I found myself having to read between the lines a little bit more to figure him out, but I quite enjoyed doing so. And last but not least Daysha!!! My Queen. While she was a side character I loved her, her friendship with Rus and support of him and his boyfriends.
Overall I loved this read, it was a perfect mix of angst, fluff and steamy (more than steamy) sex.
This story follows Rus, Dylan, and Kaiden, three men orbiting each other in that fragile, hopeful space between friendship and something more. Kaiden especially wrecked me: living in a house that takes advantage of him yet doesn't accept him, rebuilding his confidence, and hiding pieces of himself while still daring to want love? Yeah. That hit. Watching Dylan and Rus consistently, solidly show up for him with patience, respect, and zero pressure was genuinely beautiful.
What I loved most is that the conflict isn't petty relationship drama. These three actually communicate (we love emotionally competent kings), and the tension comes from the world around them - bigotry, unsafe spaces, unsupportive family, and the very real fear that comes with being visibly queer. The club scene with the Amber Ale with her drag queen army and the aftermath of Kaiden's attack were especially powerful, and the social commentary woven throughout felt purposeful, not preachy.
And yes, don't worry, the spice is absolutely spicing, but it always grows out of trust, caretaking, and emotional intimacy, which made it land so much deeper.
Supportive poly dynamics, soft caretaking; queer found family, sharp humor, and a love story built on respect and teamwork? I'm officially in my MN Bennet era and I am thriving.
Where to even start with this book? I’ve honestly been waiting for this to hit the shelves and was super excited/surprised to receive this eArc! I laughed, I cried, and i’ve been thinking about it all day the past two days I was reading it.
I really loved the characters and the way the story delved into deep topics but also was lighthearted and fun and full of love! I do feel like you had more of a “background” or “backstory” for Kaiden than the two other main characters but I enjoyed all three of them so much.
I definitely connected with Kaiden the most. You really felt for his character and the insecurities that he goes through. Along with the two other main characters Rus and Dylan, I really enjoyed that you really felt all of their natural love for each other and the anxieties everyone dealt with and healed from. (Also applause to the communication!)
The poly romance between the three of them really felt so natural and fleshed out. I really love how they connected and talked about the fears they all had before coming together…literally. ;)
I also enjoyed the politics part to the story. Rus thank you for speaking out and beating the shit out of people :) The way that Dylan and Rus also went against Kaiden’s family for him <3 I love them all so much.
This was a different read for me from a new to me author. NM Bennet layered many political topics into a love story between three young men, in this MMM poly spicy romance. I appreciated the perspective and the fact the author was trying to highlight some of the opportunities in our current climate. This truly was more of a highlight, and not an attempt to go too deep into how to solve some of those issues- which did let you follow the love story without getting too drawn into todays real life plights. This book read kind of like a soap opera for me, and also was written in third person POV- which added to how I read it... There was a lot of conversation between our main characters as well as our side characters. Kaiden, Dylan and Rus each brought something different to the story. I absolutely loved when the three of them would talk to each other and find a way to move forward in their relationships. It was deeply satisfying. There are so many times that an author will use a bit of miscommunication to move a storyline forward, but here, the story line was them growing together. They each had their own issues to overcome, which challenged us as readers, and allowed us to grow in these areas as well. This was just a great book to make you think, while layering a bit of spice - for those of us that prefer spice in our reading but still want substance. Very solid read!
What a delightful read this was! I can't recommend it enough to anyone who is a lover of MMM romance 💯. It was such a perfect blend of queer activism and hilarious antics and banter between the MC's. Rus, Dylan and Kaiden felt like a breath of fresh air. Watching them fall in love was truly beautiful. From friendship to more 🥹 I was swooning over all three.
I also absolutely loved the side tangents from the author, you could tell it was MN Bennet's way of releasing some tension but having fun with it through his work and I was here for it! 😘
Rus in particular was my favourite, I related to his inner dialogue and even his anger at I justices so much 🫶. Dylan was just such a golden retriever, he was content with life but also unwilling to allow his opportunity with Rus and Kaiden to pass him by. He's also such a strong and sweet character for surpassing all that he had 💜. And Kaiden, sweet sweet Kaiden... I related to him the most. It's hard to be vulnerable and give your darkest, most inner parts to others, even those you know you can trust 🥹 it was so amazing watching him grow and flourish alongside falling in love 💗.
Seriously, don't miss out on this beauty when it comes out! Plus that cover is absolutely gorgeous 😍. And there are character cameos from MN Bennet's other works 😜 which was a wonderful surprise! Have I convinced you yet?! 🤣😘
