Adam Toren escaped his violent past as a soldier in Israel and a Mossad operator in Tokyo. Living off the grid in San Francisco, he becomes Silicon Valley’s most skilled spy-for-hire until an old comrade asks for help.
A Russian plot to penetrate the world’s largest social media company and to dominate global satellite internet coverage is only weeks from liftoff. With its Silicon Valley agents assassinated, Mossad turns to Adam.
Forced into a shadow war of corporate intelligence, clandestine agencies, freelance spooks and hired assassins, Adam must find a way to survive while thwarting a Russian conspiracy of global magnitude.
In this deadly, high-stakes, game of deception, sabotage and betrayal, everyone is a target.
Ami Toben is the author of Surveillance Zone and Ghost Echo and an experienced security professional who specializes in terrorist activity prevention, surveillance detection, and covert protective operations.
Trained in Israel, Japan and the US, Ami has over 20 years of military (IDF) and private sector security experience. Currently based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Ami has been providing high-end protective services to Fortune 500 corporations, foreign governments, foundations, nonprofit organizations and high-net-worth individuals.
Ami Toben's Ghost Echo is a sleek, high-velocity espionage thriller that feels ripped from tomorrow's headlines. This is not a novel of dusty Cold War dead drops; it's a story of corporate boardrooms, satellite networks, and digital battlegrounds, where the most valuable secrets are lines of code and the most dangerous weapons are algorithms. Toben delivers a masterclass in modern spycraft, blending the shadowy world of intelligence agencies with the cutthroat innovation of Silicon Valley into a narrative that is relentlessly paced, technologically plausible, and utterly gripping.
The novel's greatest asset is its compelling and perfectly crafted protagonist, Adam Toren. A former soldier and Mossad operator who has escaped to live "off the grid" in San Francisco, Toren is the ideal 21st-century spy: a man with elite, real-world tradecraft repurposed for the corporate espionage arena. His status as Silicon Valley's "most skilled spy-for-hire" is a brilliant setup, making him a deniable asset caught between his old life and his lucrative new one.
A Smart, Authentic Thriller from Someone Who’s Been There
Ghost Echo is that rare intelligence thriller that feels both cinematic and utterly real. Ami Toben writes with the authority of someone who’s actually lived in the world he describes — the surveillance, deception, and tradecraft are never overdone, but always convincing.
Adam Toren is a fascinating protagonist — scarred, resourceful, and reluctant — pulled into a global conspiracy that feels disturbingly plausible. The story moves seamlessly between the back alleys of Tokyo, the digital corridors of Silicon Valley, and the shadow world where national security and corporate espionage collide.
Toben’s background in real-world security and counterterrorism shows in every detail, giving the book a gritty authenticity that most spy novels only imitate. Yet it’s not just about action; it’s about loyalty, identity, and the moral cost of survival in a world where everyone has secrets.
For readers who love Daniel Silva, John le Carré, or Barry Eisler — Ghost Echo delivers that same mix of intellect, suspense, and emotional depth, but with a distinctly modern edge.
An impressive, tightly written debut in the fiction realm from an author who clearly knows his subject inside and out.
To be completely honest, I’ve been looking for an international espionage thriller when I came across Tobin’s first novel Ghost Echo. I was not disappointed. Along the same flow as Daniel Silva and Clancy, Tobin delivers a highly readable novel with excellent character development, exciting plot twists, origin stories and the always exciting narrative that surrounds Mossad activities. I couldn’t put the book down and purchased 3 extra books to pass out to other friends who love an exciting fiction. I don’t know, but I have a hunch the author knows something about what his imagination produced. Enjoy!
Adam Toren is a compelling protagonist. His haunted past as an Israeli soldier and Mossad operative adds real emotional weight to the story, making him more than just another spy. Living off the grid in San Francisco and operating as a spy-for-hire in Silicon Valley is a brilliant and modern twist, grounding the novel in today’s digital battlefield.
The plot is relentless. A Russian conspiracy involving social media dominance and global satellite internet control raises the stakes to an international level, and the tension never lets up. The layers of deception, betrayal, and corporate espionage are expertly woven, keeping you constantly guessing who can be trusted.
