Travels with a Restless Recluse: a motorcycle journey through Europe

Rate this book
While most people are content not to wander too far from home, author and solitudinarian Christopher Gordon approaches life from the opposite going out of his way to ride motorcycles through the backroads of faraway lands.

Follow his humorous and challenging four-month journey though post-Covid Ireland, the UK and Europe, as he meets people still emerging from the impacts of the pandemic; falls in love with storm-battered seascapes and high mountain passes; and discovers the threads of unity that ultimately bind us all together.

Few creations are able to transcend genres in the way Travels with a Restless Recluse by Christopher Gordon has. What begins as a travel journal, transforms into a story of one man’s solo motorcycle journey across Europe, invoking the vibe of a memoir with a complementary exploration guide. Gordon is a gifted storyteller who is able to share his experience with the reader in vivid detail. The sights and scenes, the people he encounters, the trials and tribulations, the tests of endurance and resilience, the joys and goals achieved, are all described in such detail that the reader can envision and experience the quest as though one was present in a sidecar. Along the way, Gordon shares his knowledge and practices for solo travel, a deep reverence for the histories and people of these lands, and a glimpse inside the dichotomy of human connection.
