She thought leaving town would break what we had. She thought time would dull the hunger. The moment I saw her, instinct took over.
DAMON
Sarah Davenport was mine long before she chose to leave Shadow Ridge.
She said she needed space. A future. A life beyond this town.
I told myself I understood. But wanting her never stopped.
So when she comes back because her father died and I see her standing in my world again, every old instinct snaps awake.
She runs. I follow. Not because I have to.
Because this is who we’ve always been.
She walked away once.
I let her.
I won’t make that mistake again.
SARAH
Leaving Damon was the hardest thing I ever did.
I left to build something of my own and become someone outside the gravity of this small town.
Coming back was supposed to be temporary. Close out my father’s life. Leave again. Then I run into Damon. And the way he looks at me makes it clear he never forgave me for running.
Being near him brings everything rushing back. The history. The heat. The part of me that always wanted to be hunted, even when I pretended I didn’t.
I broke his heart once.
Now he wants me to face what that cost.
And the most dangerous truth of all?
I still want him just as badly.
Tropes: Dark Second Chance Possessive Obsession Primal Chase Prey & Predator Small Town Heat
Taken by the Ranger is a short romance in the Paramedic Rangers series, a collection of interconnected standalones about rugged first responders who protect their town and break every personal rule along the way. These rangers are trained to brave the wild, save lives, and keep their heads under pressure… until desire gets involved. Each story follows a different intense, protective hero and the woman he can’t resist. Read in two hours or less, in any order, no cliffhangers, and always a guaranteed HEA… even if things get a little dangerous first. 😈
Sarah never expected to return to Shadow Ridge. She’s back to close out her father’s life, but everything she thought she left behind rushes back the moment she sees Damon. The town, the memories, and the heat between them are just as raw as it was four years ago.
Damon’s life has been shaped by the heartbreak she left behind. The anger, the pain, and the longing still simmer beneath the surface. When Sarah walks back into his world, his need for revenge turns into something deeper: obsession, a desperate need to make her face what she’s broken.
But even as Sarah fights her feelings, Damon’s intensity is a force she can’t ignore. The connection between them is primal, pulling them into a cycle of passion, control, and destruction. Can they move past the damage, or will the fire that once consumed them tear them apart again?
Sarah returns to Shadow Ridge broken by the weight of her past, caught between the life she’s built and the pull of her unresolved feelings for Damon. She struggles to reconcile her need to escape with the undeniable attraction to the man she once loved. Damon, still holding onto the pain of her abandonment, allows his obsession and possessiveness to resurface, but through their encounters, he learns that control and revenge can’t replace the love they once shared. Their relationship evolves from anger and bitterness into a storm of raw desire and vulnerability, each facing the emotional destruction their love causes.
A dark, emotionally charged second chance romance with obsession, possessiveness, and a primal push-pull that can’t be ignored. Damon and Sarah are caught in the destructive pull of unresolved love, where desire burns though everything, leaving only what’s been lost and what can never be fully let go of. Some things can’t be escaped, no matter how hard you try.
The Elevator Pitch: A woman returns to a small town to close a painful chapter of her past, only to find that the man she left behind still carries the weight of their broken love. As old wounds reopen, desire turns into obsession, pulling them both into a dangerous cycle of passion, control, and raw vulnerability. In the face of guilt, yearning, and unhealed wounds, they must decide if their love is worth the cost of everything it could destroy.
Some loves fade with distance. Others wait — patient, aching, and a little dangerous.
Taken by the Ranger by Bridget Adrienne is a dark, emotionally charged second-chance romance that proves time doesn’t always heal… sometimes it just sharpens what was already there.
Sarah left Shadow Ridge four years ago determined to build a life outside the place — and the man — who defined her. Leaving Damon broke them both, but she needed independence more than she needed comfort. Coming back after her father’s death was supposed to be temporary.
Then she sees him again.
Damon never moved on. He existed. Worked. Protected his town as a paramedic ranger. But lived? Not really. The second Sarah steps back into his world, all the restraint he’s practiced collapses. His feelings aren’t gentle nostalgia — they’re instinct. Raw, consuming, and unfinished.
The story thrives on that tension: two people who know each other too well to pretend they’re strangers but carry too much hurt to fall back easily. Every conversation holds history. Every touch holds memory. The push and pull between them feels less like rekindling and more like confronting something they never truly ended.
Sarah isn’t weak for leaving — and Damon isn’t wrong for staying. That balance makes their conflict believable. She wanted freedom; he wanted permanence. Now they have to decide if love can exist without either person losing themselves again.
The small-town setting intensifies everything. There’s nowhere to hide from shared pasts, old routines, and the familiarity that keeps drawing them back together. Beneath the heat and obsession is grief, regret, and the fear of reopening wounds that never fully healed.
If you love:
intense second-chance romance
emotionally messy reunions
protective first-responder heroes
small-town tension and longing
short reads packed with big feelings
this story delivers a fast but powerful emotional punch.
Because sometimes the person you ran from… is the one place your heart never actually left.

Taken by the Ranger (Paramedic Rangers series) by Bridget Adrienne ⭐⭐⭐⭐🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Dark Romance * Death of a Parent * Small Town * Second Chance * High School Sweetheart * Primal Chase * CNC * Prey & Predator * Leash * Family Drama * Pseudo-Kidnapping * Bondage * Possessive Obsession * Addiction 📖 78 pages
I hope you aren’t tired of me talking about rangers. Some love cowboys, others mafia… (okay, I like both of those too), but some of us REALLY like our rangers. This is Bridget’s newest release in the Paramedic Rangers series and, like the others, it’s a short, fast, and smutty standalone.
While previous books in the Paramedic Rangers series had a bit more of an injury-focused element, this one only briefly mentions his role as a paramedic ranger. That said, this is definitely one of the darker ranger stories in Bridget’s collection so far. It leans heavily into obsession, addiction, unstable family dynamics, and raw, primal need. The heat is plentiful and intense, but it’s not soft or tender. It’s about claiming, chasing, and winning. The angst and possessiveness here were on another level.
Damon and Sarah were high school sweethearts, but their relationship was always built around primal dynamics and CNC. When Sarah returns to town to handle her father’s estate, their unfinished breakup takes center stage. They know each other too well to pretend it was ever truly over, and that’s when the push-and-pull begins.
Neither of them has been able to let go, so they get a second chance… sort of. But this isn’t a cute, sweet reunion. It’s dark, intense, and constantly skirting the edge of dangerous. As with all of Bridget’s stories, we get an HEA, but the road to it is anything but easy.
When Sarah fled Shadow Ridge, she wasn’t just leaving town, she was escaping the suffocating shadow of her alcoholic father and a community that didn’t care what happened behind closed doors. The hardest part was leaving Damon behind. Four years later, her father’s addiction has finally claimed him, and Sarah returns determined to close that painful chapter for good. But Shadow Ridge hasn’t forgotten her. Under the town’s sharp, judgmental stares, Sarah quickly realizes that time hasn’t softened old wounds, especially when she comes face to face with Damon. He never expected to see her again, and the anger simmering beneath his skin is impossible to miss. He never forgave her for running, and he’s determined that this time she’ll face the consequences of the wreckage she left behind. Yet anger isn’t the only thing lingering between them. Beneath the bitterness and hurt is a pull neither of them has ever been able to shake. What follows is a tense, intoxicating dance as they circle each other, both waiting to see who will break first. I absolutely loved the dark, electric energy of their relationship. The addition of primal play as part of their dynamic gave this a deliciously edgy twist that makes their chemistry feel even more raw and consuming. Honestly, this might be the most intense and volatile relationship in the series so far. It’s pure hunter-and-prey tension—and when Damon finally catches Sarah, there’s no doubt he has no intention of ever letting her go again. Bridget seriously turns up the heat with this one. OMG Besties… if you love a dark second-chance romance where the tension is thicker than the forest air in Shadow Ridge, "Taken by the Ranger" by Bridget Adrienne is IT.
Damon is a wee bit unhinged in that “touch her & you’re done” way, and I ate it UP. The man never got over Sarah, and the second she’s back in town? Instinct. Possession. Hunt mode activated. The primal chase vibes? Whew. Hate smex with a former lover? Superior... Elite... Illegal levels of good.😏
And that woods scene?! I had to fan myself because the spice was explosive. Then, when he picked her up… I was NOT expecting what happened next! But look, it’s not just heat... there’s emotional baggage, old wounds, bitter memories, and that messy, magnetic pull between them that never died.
This one felt deeper and more emotional than the others in the Paramedic Rangers series, and I loved that depth. Fast burn, possessive obsession, small-town heat... don’t skip this one. It's less than a 2-hour read... 🚫cliffies... and maximum obsession.😉

Taken By The Ranger by Bridget Adrienne is a short, spicy, dark, second chance romance and is ideal for an afternoon escape. The the storyline was well paced for the short format with main characters Damon, paramedic ranger, and Sarah, engaging. In Shadow Ridge Damon and Sarah grew up together and were lovers up until she left the small town for the city. Their connection and relationship was deep and strong but when she left they were both broken hearted. When the death of her father brings Sarah back to the small town memories, feelings, and instincts can't be denied and their previous primal chase and prey and predator dynamics roar to life. Damon can't deny his possessive obsession with Sarah and the chemistry between the two is still off the charts regardless of the years apart but the reasons they didn't stay together are still there and need to be addressed if they are going to get their HEA. This was an entertaining read that had me turning the pages right up to the very end. I look forward to the rest of the series.

She ran away once. Now she’s back. And if she runs again, he’ll catch her.
I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of emotional turmoil this story packed in so few pages. It’s a roller coaster full of sadness, bitter memories, love lost and found again. Ms. Adrienne has taken her writing to another level here, and I found myself connecting with Sarah’s grief and Damon’s heartbreak.
Four years ago, Sarah left Shadow Ridge searching for a better life, and in the process, she left Damon behind. He’s never stopped loving her, and their shared history binds them in ways neither can outrun. The chase brought them together once, and it might be the only way they find their way back to each other.
Another superb addition to the Paramedic Rangers series.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I’m leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you to the author and @BookFunnel for this eARC.
This is a high steam, heavy passion second chance romance. Be ready to swoon, blush, and smile all at once!
Sarah and Damon were deeply in love in the past, but the small town, her abusive father made her leave it all behind. 4 years later, she is back to pack her past dad's house, but once Damon sees her , he knows it is time to remind her that he can only be his. Well their passion is animal, BDSM, prey games, and just brutal possession are in the list. BUt also there is a love that goes beyond the passion, they are fated to be one, He is the one who chose to stay behind, and now he will have to chose between promise or love.
A great read!.

Taken by the Ranger is emotional, engaging, and full of good writing. It is a darker, second chance, small town romance that is a powerful short read about re-connection. Damon and Sarah meet years later after she left the Shadow Ridge. Their meeting is intense with a push-pull dynamic between them that fuels their relationship. Their connection is explosive but each of them realize that being together in their life’s journey will bring their happy ever after. Taken by the Ranger can be read as a standalone. However, it is a read worthy part Paramedic Rangers series.

It hit every trope I love: primal play, possessive MMC, dark second-chance romance, small-town vibes, and a satisfying HEA. Sarah and Damon were childhood sweethearts, torn apart four years ago when Sarah fled a toxic home, leaving Damon heartbroken and furious. When she returns, old feelings explode back to life, and the intense chase (and chemistry) begins. The book beautifully dives into their complicated emotions, past hurts, and rekindled passion. If you crave steamy, emotional second-chance stories with a dark edge, grab this one—5 stars! You'll fly through it too.

Paramedic Ranger Damon has missed his love Sarah for four years
Sarah left town to escape her drunken father but when he succumbs to liver failure she returns to finalize his affairs. Damon didn't leave with Sarah but he stayed to fulfil a promise she didn't know about. These two had an unusual past Damon would chase and treat Sarah like prey! She put up a token fight and when he starts to repeat their old game she realises they she still loves the thrill of the chase and Damon. Damon's brother sets off the events leading to Damon finally leaving to seek his future with Sarah.
Another great fast-burn, stand-alone spicy novella by Bridget Adrienne. Damon is a paramedic ranger who, for the last four years, has been barely living- his heart broken by the love of his life, Sarah, when she left town and never looked back. But now? She’s back to settle affairs after her father’s death, and all those memories, feelings and dark desires are back. Their story explores power dynamics and deep, emotional themes such as trauma, addiction, and is loaded in rope play, Dom/sub, prey/primal play just to name a few. Please review TW/CW prior to reading.
Primal play? Yes, please! Taken by the ranger was so good! I devoured it in one sitting. It checked all of my boxes: primal play , possessive mmc , dark second chance , small town and a HEA . This story follows Sarah and Damon. They were childhood sweethearts but we're separated for four years. Sarah left to escape a toxic environment but left the man she loved. Damon was left brokenhearted and angry. When Sarah returned, all of their feeling resurfaced and the chase began. I loved how the story explored their complex emotions and relationships.
'I broke his heart once. Now he wants me to face what that cost. And the most dangerous truth of all? I still want him just as badly.'
The characters were very appealing and complex and complicated and perfectly steamy together. Plot was intriguing and intense and well paced. World building was excellent and solidly drawn. Enjoyed immensely and highly recommend.

A deliciously dangerous second chance. Damon is pure predator-meets-protector and Sarah’s pull is electric. Short, scorching, and impossible to put down! Taken by the Ranger is a fierce, breath stealing read with a satisfyingly dirty HEA.
Thank you to Bridget for providing me with a copy of Taken by the Ranger. As always, my opinions are my own.
Bridget has done it again. ARC review. Short and sweet, small town spicy romance. This one is about Sarah leaving to get away from the small town but has to go back. Of course running into her old boyfriend who she never stopped loving. This book has some primal kink and the story was well told. 10 out of 10!! A must read!!
loved this spicy second chance, small town romance! hard to put down. such a good read. he has never stop thinking about her when she left and she tried to hide down all those feelings. the pull and spice between them is so hot! he loves to chase and she loves to run thank you so much for letting me arc read for you again Bridget! I cant wait for the next! 🖤
This was a good read and a darker addition to the series. Sarah and Damon have been separated for years but the death of her father has her heading back to Shadow Ridge and the man she left behind. Can they forgive each other and move on? Good characters and decent storyline with a HEA FN.

Once again Bridget Adrienne does it again with a short spicy can’t put it down book! This one is about Sarah and Damon and if it’s even possible spicier than some of her others! I read it in one sitting without a break! She definitely knows what a reader wants!
AHH this was such a great novella. It’s a second chance, but gives off vibes of enemies to lovers too, it’s a little dark, it’s kinky, and it just pulls at your heart. I love Sarah and Damon’s story. The plot was perfection. Absolutely loved this!
Damon and Sarah, how intense. Good storyline. Second chance at first love. Hot, spicy, dominant in words and actions, just awesome. Relatable characters and good plot with twist. A really good one.

Second chance romance that comes about when Sarah returns to her home town after her father's passing. Damon and her find that the attraction between them has not diminished over the four years they were apart. But can they achieve their HEA?
Damon and Sarah sweethearts until she broke up with him a left their small town 4 years ago. Sarah is back to clean out her father’s house after he passed. They still love each other but Damon is so angry that she left. Let’s play a little hide and seek with some primal kink.
Small town, gossip, a handful of drama and a whole lot of spice. It's a posessive romance with fun, hot scenes and a hea. There is some drama but it gets resolved without unnecessary angst.

Some loves fade with distance. Others wait — patient, aching, and a little dangerous.
Fast paced and HAWT this standalone in the Rangers series burns fast and is the perfect push to get you over a book slump!!! I absolutely adore this series and this was the perfect breakout!!!
She left four years ago and is only here to clear her fathers house. He see her and the chase begins. A good story about dealing with hard issues, accepting what’s real. Adult situations and a realist and happy ending.
