The first book published by the Humboldt County Historical Society in what they say will be a multi-volume history of the County.

For those who love local history and for anyone with any connection to Humboldt, I can't recommend this enough. I received this as a Christmas gift from my parents and was up until almost 2 AM on Christmas reading it. This type of reading schedule is usually reserved for the last section of a thriller and not a history book.

The difference is when it is about a place you are from and that is the case with this book. Full of photo's, maps and great inserts, this book is also very "browsable".

Besides the cover (which looks like a third grade history book)I have nothing but the highest praise for this history. One of the things that especially struck me is the detailed history of the native tribes. Most American history novels seem to begin with the earliest Caucasian settlers. Not this one - the first natives to Humboldt take first and center stage in this book, hence the title, "Two Peoples, One Place". This takes the book to a much higher level.

So, my few Humboldt friends and family on Goodreads, you have to pick this book up. You won't be disappointed.
