Blythe MacTavish misses her husband. Two years after his death and Scotland-bound to attend his sister’s wedding with her five-year-old daughter, she has never felt his absence more. Megan lives in Hamilton, Ontario with her husband, two dogs, two cats and unruly garden. When not writing she can usually be found photographing families (don’t worry they pay her to do it), yelling at her beloved Toronto Maple Leafs, dreaming of travelling somewhere else or cooking something her husband will ask her to make again but knows she won’t because Megan doesn’t do recipes.

Megan enjoys writing romance that will make you laugh one minute only to cry the next. Don’t ask why because she doesn’t know.

There’s something almost disarming about how quietly this story pulls you in. No big, flashy drama. No chaos screaming for your attention. Just… life. Messy, soft, complicated life.

From the beginning, I felt like I wasn’t just reading about Blythe. I was with her. The way she moves through grief felt so grounded, so real it almost caught me off guard. She doesn’t shut the world out, doesn’t harden herself against other people’s happiness, and that alone made me love her.

“Besides, I got a great love story, even if it was short. I’m excited to be part of yours.”

When she said this to her sister-in-law (bride to be) I automatically knew I was going to adore her 🥹 Her love for other people was so genuine.

Also the way she talks about her husband with her daughter instead of avoiding it?? That honesty?? It gutted me in the gentlest way. There’s such a quiet strength in choosing to keep love present even after loss, and she embodies that so beautifully.

Sam though… Sam hurt in a completely different way. His struggle felt heavier, more internalized. Watching him try to navigate depression, trying to move forward while still feeling stuck in expectations that weren’t even his—it was frustrating and heartbreaking in that I just want better for you kind of way. And the way the story quietly reminds you that mental health doesn’t have a “look”… that some people are carrying so much without anyone realizing… that stuck with me and was such a good reminder to make sure and check on your loved ones because sometimes there's a whole battle happening and we don't even know.

Sam and Blythe's connection doesn’t feel forced or overly dramatic. It just exists, and it grows in this steady, almost inevitable way. Like two people who didn’t realize how much they needed someone until suddenly… there they are. And it’s not about fixing each other, which I appreciated so much. It’s about learning that leaning on someone doesn’t make you weak.

Also I need to talk about Sam and Maggi because 🥹🥹🥹 the way he calls her princess like it’s the most natural thing in the world??? The way he just shows up for her without hesitation??? I meltedddd 🥺

The romance itself is low drama, but not low intensity. There’s this undercurrent of what are we doing / what does this mean / are we allowed to want this that keeps everything humming beneath the surface. And when it hits... it hits.

“I wish there was a way to stop time so I can keep her like this until our feet ache. And even then, she can kick off her shoes and stand on my feet and we can dance until I physically can’t.”

The way this man was so down bad from the very beginning had me SATTTT 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

And the way he wants not only her but the whole package????

“How could I not want this, though? How could I not want everything with you, including to love that little girl?”

It wasn't just love, it was devotion & commitment in its finest form.

What I loved most, though, is how mature everything felt. These are people in their 30s who have lived, who have lost, who are trying—sometimes failing—to move forward. The story doesn’t rush them or force them into neat resolutions. It lets them be messy and uncertain and still deserving of something good.

And in the end, it left me with that quiet kind of ache. Like a reminder that healing isn’t linear, that love after loss is complicated and terrifying and worth it anyway.

Grief is the greedy friend that stole the spotlight and attention for me in this book.
The authenticity, emotional depth, and nuance in the authors writing about bereavement and loss is striking. I felt the weight of Blythe’s grief and yet also felt buoyed by her path forward. Her strength, honesty and courage, her willingness to change and her hope that hearts can heal and love can find her again ( Blythe hit me hard in the best way 🥹)

I have thought about this book every single day since I finished the last page.

Every. Single. Day.

When I finished, I couldn’t do anything but sit and stroke the pages of the book. I was incredibly happy, but upset the book had come to an end.

Megan has a way with bringing her books to life. She beautifully connects you to the story, and I can’t really put my finger on how she does it. But I won’t complain. I even believe (and I have seen it) that someone who wasn’t really into contemporary romance would not be able to put this book down. It’s JUST SO GOOD. Not that I have any complaints with her previous books, but they just keep getting better and better.

Blythe, Sam and Maggi were such vivid characters, so real. I literally was a fly on the wall watching everything in real time from above, in real moments. (Yes, even in those moments)
I also adore and appreciate well rounded side characters (future books here Megan??) and she weaves these characters into the story seamlessly. The romance, growth and development of the characters happens at the perfect pace. My heart is soo content.

Let’s be real though, there is grief, there is sadness in this book. I shed many tears. But there is love, oh there is love, and there is light and there is laughter and what a HEA (I won’t say anymore as I don’t want to include spoilers) A complete roller coaster of emotions happened in this book, and I did not want to get off the ride.

Have you ever read a book that you just instantly connect with? I’ve been reading a lot of sad but HEA books lately. I’ve shed a few tears and I always try to connect with all the books I read. I felt that connection right from the beginning with this book. This connection to grief, sitting with it, feeling the memories and moving while keeping the memories with us.

This was such a cozy weekend read for me and even thought it has such realistic views of grief and loss it still had the ability to make me laught out loud and shoot coffee out my nose at the same time. I did have a lot of what if moments… while reading which I think should be expected when reading a book about grief and love. Blythe and Sam’s stories are so beautiful.

The FMC Blythe, a great mother, widow and daughter in law. How she handles her grief and loss for herself and her daughter amazed me. Although she struggled she kept her priorities and for me as a Mom and wife that really hit home. How she did it I’ll never know. Her strength when faced with the unimaginable was raw and visceral.

Sam the MMC wow, Megan wrote a male with such realistic struggles. How he struggled with his grief/ loss, how he sought help, showed up everyday and brought awareness to his mental health condition. Sam felt so alive to me. I also felt the tug of war he carried trying to let go of something that still had meaning because of the people he’d lost. His sense of humour was chefs kiss for me.

I really enjoyed this read and although it was saturated in grief it was the love/ relationships that blossomed from it…and the spice that followed …that made this such a memorable read. The humour was a great way to break up all the sad heavier emotions. The healing by both characters that’s woven through the book added so much depth. Again, it also had some really fun and funny moments.

This is my second Megan McFadden read my first was Deck the Hores this Christmas which I picked up at a cute pop up indie book store and I loved it. I really enjoy Megan’s writing styles both are 5 ⭐️’s for me. I can’t wait to read more of her books.

If Things Were Different was such an emotional and beautiful read 🥹 Truly one of the best books I've read this year!

A story of love after loss which I can relate to after losing my own husband. The way grief was handled throughout the story was absolute perfection and there were many monents that I, as a widow, felt so validated and understood 🥹

Blythe lost her husband to a car accident leaving her a single mama to their toddler, Maggi. When they head to Scotland for a family members wedding a few years after their loss, they cross paths on the flight there with a kind gentleman who offers to swaps seat with the pair for them to be more comfortable (and to get relief from Maggi's chair kicking 😅). After parting ways at the airport, a few days later they find themselves at the same wedding at a beautiful castle in the Scottish Highlands. Blythe is the sister in law to the bride and Sam (our airplane sweetheart) is the best man to the groom. Maggi is the first to spot Sam at the venue and calls him the prince. This is where the magic of this story begins ✨️  Over the course of the time at the wedding venue and during the rest of their time in Scotland, Blythe and Sam's attraction to each other strengthens and they find themselves navigating what this means and were to go from there.

Both Bylthe and Sam are dealing with grief and loss and bond over their pasts. Sams depression is handled so beautifully in the book also. Together they find ways to heal and trust in love again and I found myself crying both happy and sad tears multiple times as the story progressed. Maggi adores Sam and it's the cutest "daughter falls first" story that I've ever read 😊 Sam was so loving and accepting of Blythe's angel husband and I can only hope to find myself a Sam of my own one day 🥰

Bylthe and Sam are both from Canada (although most of the story takes place in Scotland) as a Canadian, I absolutely loved the Canadian references throughout the book. I also found myself falling in love with Scotland and adding it to my travel bucket list... the magic of the Scottish Highlands left me speechless and in awe!

The found family within both Bylthe's in laws and the rugby circle were lovely and so supportive of Blythe, Sam and Maggi which warmed my heart.

This story deserves more then 5 stars ⭐️ Megan McSpadden is an incredibly talented writer and although this was my first book of hers, it will definitely not be my last! I cannot wait to read the next book in the series 😍

I had the pleasure of receiving an ARC to read and review.

Blythe is a single mom raising her 5-year-old daughter after the loss of her husband. Sam is a retired rugby player, who is trying to find his place after the loss of his parents. Both of them meet on a flight to Scotland, unaware that they are both traveling to the same wedding. Upon realization that they are both there for the same reason, and what appears to be fate, bringing them together at every turn, they grow closer and closer. What originally starts as a mutual desire to explore their physical connections, slowly escalates into more. With 5-Year-Old Maggi, determined to see the prince rescue them, they soon need to reevaluate and determine if this relationship is something that they want to pursue long-term.

This is an absolutely beautiful story about love after loss, battling with grief and the memories attached to people that have passed on, as well as facing depression. I loved how both characters related to being 'held in place by ghosts', speaking to how they were unable to move on because of the memories that were attached to the people that they loved and had lost.

Both characters had significant growth, in the form that Blythe was able to start living for herself again, and Sam was able to find something that truly made him happy. I don't often get tears in my eyes while reading, but reading about Blythe walking through the home that she had built with her first Love, and discussing all the memories that she had in that home, really hit me hard.

Overall, I really, really enjoyed this book. It's emotional, relatable, but there's also a good spice factor and which helps break up the sad emotions and give it an aspect of fun and comedy.

I adored this book. Megan writes the coziest books and this is no exception. They just feel so good to read.

This book follows Blythe and Sam who both have their own grief to navigate, which is really the main thrust of the book. Blythe's husband died 2 years prior to the start of the book and is still experiencing that loss when she goes to Scotland for her sister-in-law's wedding. Both of Sam's parents died leaving him in charge of the family bookstore, and he makes the trip to Scotland to support one of his old rugby teammates getting married. There are pretty immediate sparks between the two, but how will they manage their growing attraction with the knowledge that their time together in Scotland is limited?

One of my favorite parts of the book is how much Sam and Blythe clearly adore Maggie, Blythe's daughter. Blythe's life revolves around her and I love that the story acts like it. She takes her role as mother incredibly seriously that Sam not only respects but it's one of the things that he finds particularly attractive about her. His relationship with Maggie is also adorable and a lot of it is shown on page which I really appreciated. It helped it make sense why Maggie loves him so much.

The depiction of grief in this story is also excellent. Sam and Blythe both approach their grief differently but both sides feel incredibly true to life. Blythe's journey in particular felt very close to home for me, as it mirrored a lot of my experiences after losing my mom. She struggles with all the firsts that Maggie's father is missing alongside all of the things he's not there to experience with her, and her healing looks like being able to honor his memory while still living her life. The support from her father-in-law in particular felt so comforting to read.

This is a very low drama romance, which is my favorite type to read. All of the angst is internal and related to character growth and healing, there's very little to none between the two leads. If you're the type of reader who likes a higher angst story this likely won't be to your taste but I very much appreciate it. Thank you so much for the chance to read this early!

This story had a lot of elements that I personally have not experienced such as death of a spouse, having a young child, and death of parents; however, Megan has written the story in a way that felt accessible, as well as still allowed me to enjoy and sink in to the characters all the same.

As a Canadian it’s always exciting to have Canadian characters and Canadian references sprinkled throughout a story so it’s always exciting to get a little nuggets and nods to Canada, even though the story was not really set there. It was so fun to be in Scotland for this one in the setting was so well written that I could easily picture exactly where they were even never having visited myself. I appreciated all of the Scottish details, the folklore, and the little slices of life that we got to experience through the story

Watching Blythe and Sam’s love story unfold was sweet, spicy and exciting to witness and on top of that, watching both characters interact with Blythe’s daughter Maggi with special. Grief is a strong emotion and can come across in many different ways and watching two characters deal with different types of grief and watch them work through that grief felt important.

I enjoyed the found family and strong support system that the side characters provided to Blythe, Sam, and Maggi. They added to the story and although they were side characters, they had a strong presence, and I appreciated the unconditional love you could definitely feel from all of them.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and when I knew I was getting near the end I wanted to take it slower just so I could live in that little bubble little longer with them.

This is the first book in the In A Heartbeat and it comes out May 19!

I was sent a digital ARC of If Things Were Different by the author. In all honesty, I had fairly low expectations since this was my first ARC from an author I wasn't familiar with, but I was so pleasantly surprised, I truly could not put it down. It is a cozy love story about two people attempting to reclaim their lives after loss.
Recently widowed Blythe is traveling with her five-year-old daughter, Maggie, when she meets the kind but slightly grumpy Sam on a flight. Sam is a retired rugby player who has recently lost both of his parents. When they bump into each other again at a wedding, sparks fly instantly.
The author, Megan, takes us on the sweetest journey of real-life moments as we watch Blythe and Sam fall in love. The story is tender, sweet, and at times, tearful. I admired Blythe’s strength and courage, as she navigates the complex question of whether she is ready to love someone new while still holding a place in her heart for her late husband, Eric.
Watching Sam fall in love with Maggie and learn how to parent was a highlight for me. I also appreciated that Megan wrote Sam as a "big, strong man" who struggles with depression, it felt very real. Ultimately, both Blythe and Sam must overcome their insecurities and decide if they are ready to embrace a future different from the one they had originally planned.
Megan handles the theme of grief gently, showing that no two people grieve the same way. The supporting characters were also wonderful; I loved how Eric’s family didn't just accept Blythe and Maggie, but actively encouraged Blythe to find happiness again. Megan sprinkled so many "tender mercies" and nuggets of love throughout the novel that it gave me all the warm, cozy feels.

Megan McSpadden is back with a new book and it's no surprise that I totally loved it! Her writing is fabulous and the characters she creates are so easy to fall in love with. This time, we are getting book one in a brand new series and I'm already very excited for more.

If Things Were Different features some Canadian characters who spend time in beautiful Scotland. It's a place I've never been, but Megan did a wonderful job of bringing it to life for me! Blythe is a single mother, grieving the loss of her husband. Sam is a retired Rugby player dealing with depression after his career ended due to injury. The two meet on a place en route to a wedding. The spark between them was electric right from the start. The connection felt so genuine and from the opening scene, I was captivated. We also have Maggi, Blythe's adorable daughter, who brought the magic of Scotland to life with her love of folklore and the Lochness Monster. Seriously, what a cutie!

I really love the way Megan wrote about grief in this book. It felt very realistic, authentic and emotional. But there was also so much hope in this story and strength, especially from Blythe. I loved the way that she was able to move forward in her life and I felt like we all got to witness her heart healing. And let me tell you, the support she receives from her husband's parents throughout the whole book is inspiring! What a great bunch of people!

As with all of Megan's writing, this book had so much love in it! Romantic love, love between friends, love with family, love between parent and child, always holding love for those no longer with us and also hopeful love - letting it in, allowing it to find you, accepting it.

This book had me in my feelings in the best way! Sensitive topics were handled with care, it was emotional and yet funny and I loved everything about it! I was very fortunate to read an early copy and I'm so excited for others to read it soon. Five huge stars! Can't wait for the next one!

What I Loved:
The Emotional Depth & Realism: The author writes grief so raw and realistically that you feel it to your core. The story beautifully illustrates that no two people grieve the same way, creating a profound sense of mutual healing that adds a ton of depth.

A Tiny Scene Stealer: Maggi is an absolute delight. With her infectious giggles and unfiltered comments, she steals the show-and Sam's heart-long before he even realizes it.

Men’s Mental Health: I appreciated the honest portrayal of Sam’s journey with Persistent Depressive Disorder. Seeing a "big, strong" man navigate medication and the vulnerability of sharing his diagnosis was refreshing and vital.

The Power of Found Family: The supporting characters-Sarah and her parents, Martha and Thomas-are everything. Their complete acceptance and active encouragement for Blythe to find happiness again made the relationships in this book feel so special.

The Perfect Balance: While the book handles heavy themes of loss and the struggle to hold space for both a past and future love, the humor sprinkled throughout is fantastic at breaking up the weight of the emotions. This story is equal parts tearful and hopeful, proving that while grief is permanent, love and new relationships can still blossom in the most beautiful ways.

RUN, don't want to you nearest computer and order a copy of "If things were different" RIGHT NOW! This was my first book by Megan and all the rumours are true - she is an incredible author!

This book covers a topic i usually stay away from - death of a spouse (off page) and finding love again. I personally cannot fathom losing the love of my life and wrapping my head around finding someone after him seems impossible. That's exactly the story line Megan took head-on and did not disappoint.

Blythe is a single mother trying to rebuild her life again after the tragic and unexpected loss of her husband, Eric. She's slowly moving forward with her new normal while raising an incredible, high energy and curious little girl, Maggie. While on a trip for a family wedding, she unexpectedly meets Sam (also her first husbands favourite Rugby player - hello God wink!).

Over the course of the wedding week and in the months that follow, Blythe and Sam navigate what they both want out of this potential relationship while being true to themselves, their own changing expectations for what they had envisioned their life to be and how they can do all that with a little girl needing stability and love after losing her father.

Megan captured real, in depth and sometimes hard to imagine conversations and presented the reader with the idea of "how do you chose to love someone else, when you weren't finished loving someone else?" You'll laugh, you'll cry...you'll blush ;) - don't sleep on this one!

I had the pleasure of ARC reading this book and I am so glad I stumbled across it!
This story was just absolutely beautiful with all of the sadness that also comes with a story that involves loss.
The MMC Sam was just an absolute gem. From the very start he is kind, polite, helpful and a true gentleman.
And that never once slipped.
He is also battling his own mental health journey after his own loss of both parents and to still be such a thoughtful, selfless human just flawed me!
There was no moment of him being a total a hole or pushing the FMC away, he was just a man with a gentle soul and i absolutely LOVED it!
The FMC Blythe ‘Rosie’, had been through one of the worst life experiences one could go through and the support system around her and her daughter was just heartwarming! I felt her story to my bones, the heart ache while also putting on a brave front for your child is something else and I am in awe of all of the parents in the real world who manage this day in and day out!
Reading her story had a lump in my throat multiple times as she reflected back on Eric and her struggle trying to move forward for herself and her daughter.
Sam and Blythe’s love story was one I could read over and over and never get tired of! Raw, emotional, heartwarming and a man who loves not only the FMC but her young daughter as well without any second guessing!
I also now find myself wanting to go on adventures looking for the Loch Ness Monster!

It’s not everyday I have the privilege to read stories that even mention Canada (yes, we can have romance here too). Going on this journey with not only Blythe and Sam but also all the other characters such as Mags, who we get a glimpse of what it looks like to be surrounded by such a strong foundation even when the ground shakes. It is not only a journey that holds love but also grief and learning how to grow with it even when doubt can be looming in. The whiplash of crying to laughing to giggling and kicking my feet to blushing is one yall need to put your seat belts on for!

Author Megan McSpadden is back, this time with the glorious back drop of the Scottish Highlands. Created with such vivid imagery you can't help picture yourself there. Especially with all the references to the folklore and magic the area is known for. Which is helped in being brought to life by Maggi's (Blythes daughter) obsession with the Loch Ness monster and the fair folk.

McSpadden manages to create a perfect blend of grief/bereavement and optimism in her words and our two MC's. She never fails to create flawed yet dimensional characters that you can't help be drawn to. In this book it's Blythe, our widowed single mother trying to figure out how to move past her grief and Sam our rugged "Prince" in a kilt who is struggling with his own loss in the form of his career post an injury. While also dealing with depression. And can we talk about the buying of multiple special editions of a book. Swoon.

I think one of the things I loved most was the unwavering support Blythe receives from her in laws after the passing of her husband. Both emotionally and in encouraging her to move on. They are the family everyone needs to marry into.

Full of emotion, laughter, and of course a little spice, this was another tale by the author that I could not put down. I'm hoping book two in the series is Sam's cousin Nora. She seems like she could give us a great story.

This romance is so tender and sweet 🥰 Blythe MacTavish and her 5 year old daughter Maggi travel back to Scotland for a wedding two years after the sudden passing of their husband and father, Eric. Sam Keefer, retired professional rugby player and current bookstore owner, finds himself on the same plane (the seat before them 😁) enroute to a wedding himself as the best man. I won't spoil the rest, you'll have to just read for yourself! 😏

While endearing and heartwarming, this story also deals with incredible grief. Both Blythe and Sam are learning to move forward after unimaginable loss (husband/parents) and the author handles their grief and mental health so beautifully. I love to read stories where healthy communication is modeled, in and out of the bedroom (light kink exploration included). This story also shows simple examples of what it looks like when two people choose to adapt and adjust together in both the exciting and mundane parts of daily life.

I really felt for Blythe while reading this. She’s navigating life two years after losing her husband, trying to bring up their little girl whilst trying to keep his memory alive and the way her grief is written felt so genuine and raw. When she meets Sam on a flight to Scotland, the connection between them is sparked. Their relationship doesn't feel rushed; it develops through moments during a wedding week.

One thing I absolutely loved was the emotion. It’s not just a standard romance; it really shows how people move forward differently when their world has been turned upside down by the death of a loved one. Sam is such a supportive character, and seeing him and Blythe lean on each other while they both dealt with their loss was very touching to read. The relationship between Sam and Maggie was so sweet, he connected instantly with the little girl, but was also respectful to her fathers memory. I also loved the setting of the Scottish wedding; it added such a lovely atmosphere to the story.

Overall, it’s a really emotional read. This story handles heavy themes with a lot of heart and a bit of Scottish magic, I'd certainly recommend reading.

Thank you Megan McSpadden for this ARC! This story is so touching. It is about processing grief and the question of what comes next. These characters are faced with rebuilding their confidence, rediscovering who they are and rediscovering life.

Blythe made me very teary through this story - both happy and sad! She was written beautifully. Sam’s care for his wellbeing and mental health was also a cathartic experience to be part of. Both characters also show the importance of supporting someone through grief the way they need and not necessarily the way you want to.

I thought this book was structured very well and the big themes (grief, mental health) were well balanced with the lighter romance aspects. I particularly liked the way the story had a relaxed flow to it and allowing for big moments with big feelings to linger.

I’m excited to see what else Megan has in store next!

This is my first book from this author and I absolutely loved it. I feel that the tough topics of death were dealt with beautifully and with respect.

Blythe lost her husband tragically one day and it flipped her life sideways. The consolation was that she still had the loving support of her late husband’s parents and sister. When her sister in law is getting married, she makes the long journey from Canada to Scotland to celebrate, and so that her daughter (now 5) can be a flower girl.

Sam, a retired rugby player and who lost his parents and now runs his late father’s bookstore makes the journey back to Scotland to be best man for his best friend and rugby team mates wedding.

I love how they fall in love, how Blythe tackles the love she has for her late husband and new attraction to Sam. I love how Sam respects that she will not stop loving her husband but understands that she has space for loving them both.

I found this story so healing, even though I’ve not been through any of these tragedies, but the growth and love was palpable from the pages. I really loved it, and I can’t wait to read more from this author!

There is so much to love in this book, including but not limited to, in random order:
- the meet-cute on a plane!
- the multiple copies of Pride & Prejudice purchased just because #swoon
- the fact that he was her husband's favourite player
- the adorably precocious princess Maggi-Mags-Roo who's obsessed with purple, too
- Peter the divorced cardiologist who always takes the day off for his kids' first day of school (this green flag deserves his own HEA)
- Thomas & Martha, the most supportive in-laws a woman could have, who were the best grandparents to a faerie-loving girlie
- Sarah & Colin, the meddling SIL and BFF, Nora the potter cousin, and Sheila the badass aunt
- cross-country red-eye flights
- that she thinks he forgot her name because of the nickname he gave her for reasons
- "good boy"

On a serious note, Blythe and Sam each have to deal with their own grief--she lost her husband 2 years ago and both his parents died within a short time of each other and McSpadden handles their individual journeys with sensitivity and care. Sam was also diagnosed with persistent depressive disorder in the last year which is discussed openly on the page with similar care.

I need to take a minute to gather my thoughts and try to find the right words to describe this beautiful, heartbreaking, and surprisingly sexy book. Both know the highest highs and both have lived the lowest lows. Though their situations couldn't be more different, they bond over the shared loss, unfulfilled expectations, and fear...the fear was the hardest for me to understand. But then, I lived a charmed and blessed life. Would I be afraid to leap into love if I had already felt the loss of it? I don't know.

Interestingly, I read this book and then another ARC soon after and both had the loss of a spouse and single parenthood as a main character arc. As a reader, I loved how this author (and the other one) handled the situation and resulting "after" so delicately and in the case of Blythe...so gracefully. She was young and deserved to love again...but Sam believes he is too old, too broken, and too obligated to what "should be".

I simply adored these two healing each other and watching Sam fall head over heels in love with a girl that was another man's daughter, but he loved her like she was his own. Enjoy!!!

This book truly surpassed all of my expectations - I mean, I knew that it was going to be a phenomenal read, as I adore the characters that Meg writes and her writing style. What this book actually was however was so much more than I ever even could have dreamed of.

Meg is known for writing heartfelt love stories with dynamic characters, and couples that are just absolute walking green flags. This story seemed to unlock a new level as the grief was so poignant, so raw, that it made the powerful love story feel more rich, bold, and real. These characters felt so real that I was sure that they were neighbors just down the street... I couldn't fathom just being characters on a page. You didn't just read about Blythe's grief - you felt it. Right down to your soul, because that type of loss is something acutely familiar if you've ever loved and lost someone you loved deeply. It's ingrained in your very soul and you know it deeply. Blythe was me, on a page, pouring out her grief and making room for so much more love to be returned. I thought that Marley was the closest I'd ever find to finding a character that felt like me... and then Blythe entered the picture with her rose patterned dresses and BAM.

Sam was a dream - he was tormented from his own grief, and had a past full of heartache but he was nothing short of a dream. He quickly pushed both Bennet & Foster down the list and took over my top MMC of Meg's list! If you know me - you know this is huge.

Maggi was nothing short of incredible; she was a sweet little spitfire. I absolutely adored her playfulness and her silliness, and her uncanny ability to wrap everyone around her little finger (I would be the same!). Eric's family, and the way that they loved Blythe, Maggi, and then Sam was nothing short of incredible. Such a raw and beautiful kind of love they had for one another. The way they rooted her own, and encouraged her to fall in love again - such special, special souls.

This book was an incredible read, I adored every moment - from the cute little nickname, to the Scottish lore, the pain, the grief, the memories, the setting (The Highlands have always been on my bucket list, but have moved up!) was all beautifully written and came together in such a special way.

So, so grateful to Meg and for getting an early-access ARC of this special book. I loved this one with my entire heart & soul.

I just finished this amazing ARC! I can't put into words how much this first book I've read from @authormeganmcspadden is... the characters you root for and fall in love with. So many emotions... I think I ugly cried 4 times. I can't wait to pick up more books by Megan 💕📚✨️

One of the best romance books I've read to be published from an indie Canadian Author. I've been diving into romance reads lately and Megan's writing has hooked, line and caught me! OMG if I could give more stars I would! This book was amazing! I love a book that makes you mad to put it down. The MCs are Canadian but the bulk of the story takes place in Scotland with lots of Nessie and magical being refences. This book has the tropes of found family, vacation fling, he falls first, retired rugby player/florist, love after loss, and forced proximity. There is open door spice and kink exploration.
Making the journey to your deceased husbands home land with your daughter to attend your sister-in-law's wedding is not easy add in the man whose seat your daughter is kicking. Suddenly he is also at the castle where the wedding is being held and is part of the wedding party. Your daughter falls first but can this be just a vacation fling? The author has the wedding party in kilts. Who can resist rugby players in kilts? This is the first in a series and I cannot wait to read the others.

Megan McSpadden is the queen of green flag MMCs, witty banter and the perfect amount of spice.

Dealing with my own grief I was so worried this was going to be a rough ride but it was actually so therapeutic to grieve along side Blythe - who by the way is the best FMC Megan has ever written (and that’s a huge accolade)

Maggi is the sweetest little peach and I absolutely love how Sam falls for her as quickly as he does for Blythe.

Sam is literally a dream, and may have taken top spot on my book boyfriend list (sorry Bennett )

Although this one had me crying more than I’d like to admit (grief am I right ??? 😭) it was absolutely beautiful.

Somehow Megan wrote a nostalgic story- feeling like it was written for me without even knowing it. I held onto the memories of my grandparents and mom on the pages .

Gosh I’m crying again ❤️

Grief, Family, and Catching Feels

From an incredibly adorable meet cute on a plane to the wedding the next day, Blythe and Sam are already hotnfor each other. With her daughter Maggi in the picture, the loss of her Husband Eric has made Blythe's life difficult to deal with day to day.
The Author's portrayal of the continuous effects of profound grief on everyday life, and the support of family is bittersweet when my blood family decided I was not worth their time (just cult things).
Sam is brilliantly crafted - dealing with his own profound loss - instantly relatable and unattainable (to the reader) at the same time.
If you've never had a three year old, this is a perfect description of what some of them are like.
I cannot recommend this enough for romantics who worry their grief will never end.

This was a really sweet (and spicy!) cozy romance. Set primarily in Scotland, we're taken on a journey of grief, love, determination and acceptance.

Sam, a retired rugby star, meets widowed Blythe and her daughter Maggi on a flight to Scotland, unbeknownst to both of them - both attending the same wedding. Their attraction is undeniable, and they agree to a no-strings tryst....but both catch feelings, both fall in love, and both have to work to allow themselves that love.

I loved how the many facets of grief were portrayed, how Blythe (Rosie) came to accept love, came to own her grief and live her life with it. I loved how Sam's depression and grief were showcased so earnestly, and how both Sam and Blythe accepted and loved each other.

I love how loving and supportive Blythe's inlaws are, in general, but also about finding a new partner.

I'm a reader, not a writer, so I don't have the words to describe how wonderful this story is.
I will say this is only my second 5⭐ read this year (out of 102 books).

First of all.. now that I know what a "hobgoblin" is I want to be friends with one 😄

Omgosh! Blythe and Sam had my heart from the get go.

Maggi was just the cutest little button 😊

It's so hard to say when one will ever be ready and able to move on from grief.

Blythe has lost her husband..and Sam his parents.. so they are both dealing with a lot. When a possibility arises for them to "forget" and just "be" for a spell they both give in. This was so sweet and heartwarming to me. Their connection felt so real.

Such a lovely read, couldn't put it down there's so much I'd love to mention but it could be spoiler-y so I say, just read it if the tropes are something you love.

I absolutely loved this book! From the beginning meet cute. To the magic of a child learning the legends and mythology. Especially in an environment like Scotland. Lochness and men in Kilts. Yes please. The chemistry right from the plane to the venue. The healing that Blythe was going through, so much grief but her support system was incredible. I mean doesn't help that Sam was seriously the greenest flag walking!! Understanding and manly but secure enough to know that Blythes past wasn't a threat or hindrance. The mental health discussions in this book were so healthy and I really want to recognize that.

The sweet moments, the spicey moments, the laughable moments. This was seriously a 5/5! Cannot recommend enough.
