All kindergarten teacher Kate Henderson wanted was to be happily married with a child of her own. But after her marriage to an unfaithful man ended, those dreams seemed to fade. When she meets the new barista at the local bookstore, Kate’s heart goes out to the young woman, who’s carrying some heavy, emotional baggage. Dealing with her own painful past, Kate is trying to guard her heart after meeting a former football player; after all, her ex-husband’s obsession with sports remains a sour memory.

Former pro football player David White wants to put his past behind him, especially the painful memory of losing his toddler son. He hopes moving to his company’s Georgia office will help, as he focuses on increasing his finances. The small town of Maple Grove welcomes him, and he soon makes friends with many of the town’s residents, including a very attractive kindergarten teacher named Kate. But when David is offered a tempting promotion if he transfers, he knows leaving Maple Grove would also mean leaving behind Kate and the town he’s grown to love.

The lives of three very different adults change in ways that none of them could’ve imagined, and it all started in a lovely, small-town bookstore.

With uplifting themes and realistic situations, The Bookstore is a heartwarming, feel-good romance.

After a tragic loss, former professional football player, David White, moves to Maple Grove, a small town in Georgia, where he can commute to his new job near Atlanta. While shopping at a local business, Becca’s Bookstore, he collides with kindergarten teacher, Kate Henderson. These two people are healing from past events which have left them wary of future happiness. There are many sweet moments as the attraction between them grows toward a warm relationship.

I loved the theme of trusting the Lord even when we don’t see the perfect plan He has waiting for us. Featured throughout the pages are the strength of community, friends, and family. The ending has an unexpected dangerous twist. I held my breath as the scene unfolded. The resolution of all the complicated situations in the story provides a lovely, satisfying ending.

I highly recommend stories by author Patti Jo Moore who writes warm, heart-touching books which bring love and faith together in delightful romances.

Favorite quote: But he would never be alone. Someone greater than all his problems would always be with him. Forever.

This is exactly the kind of gentle, heartwarming, hope-filled story the world needs right now. It begins with David and Kate's "cute-meet" at the bookstore that has become a comfortable gathering place for the residents of Maple Grove, Georgia. Their budding friendship soon turns to tentative romance, but they must first come to terms with the personal losses each has experienced. Can they let God heal their hearts and learn to believe in love again? Of course it's a romance, so expect a touching happily-ever-after, but the enjoyment comes from watching it unfold through some unexpected twists and turns.
