I really liked this book and was on the edge of my seat the entire time reading it. I literally did not want to stop reading it. My Mom had to FORCE me to eat and sleep and do normal things. Now you might be wondering why this book isn't five stars well.......

Don't get me wrong, the book was great but there was a lot of cussing. Now the f word wasn't in there which I was glad about but there was still too much cussing for my liking. I don't mind it a few times but there was a lot. Like maybe 10 curse words in the book. Which you might be thinking that's nothing, well I am writing this review in a Christian perspective.

There was also cheating in it which I did not like and I feel like it could have been avoided. I guess you kind of needed it in the plot but I feel like the author could have come up with something better. It didn't really talk about you know what but there is cheating so technically. I don't remember them saying it but I could be wrong.

I honestly wouldn't recommend this to anyone though I did enjoy it. The mystery part was great and I had no idea who the actually murder was but I think some of the stuff could have been avoided. If you want to read it go ahead. Kids who are 14 and older could read this.

I would never recommend this book to anyone younger just because of the cussing and cheating. That's my rating. Onto the next book!

Decent plot, an ok read

"Sometimes your best is enough, and sometimes it’s nowhere near. Sometimes the world is fire and ash, dirt and blood spilled on the ground, and there is nothing you can do to stop it. Sometimes you pour out all of your love, and it returns to you brittle and empty. But sometimes, we’re given another chance. We begin again."

A decent murder mystery comes back to life from years past and the only one who holds the key decides to return and walk thru the previously locked door.

The chapters bounce from past to present but when they do, they go from 1st to 3rd person making the switch a bit frustrating as it would have flowed much better if the tenses would have remained the same throughout the book. It dragged a little, picking up the last quarter of the book. It was clean though, and something I'd recommend for 13+ readers who enjoy murder mystery!

I really enjoyed this book. The chapters alternated between present time and 14 1/2 years ago when a couple was murdered. Present day--it is still a cold case and Juniper returns to town to help a friend and to change the minds of the towns people who think her brother is the murderer. I didn't want to put the book down. More issues involved than just the murders -- young love, teen pregnancy, family bonds, environmental issues, rifts between neighbors, friendships, and more.

Great book!

I loved this book. It had a little bit of everything. I was invested in the characters. I felt the ending could have provided a little bit more backstory about several storylines but I got the gist of it.

this book kept my attention all the way through. It was not the most predictable, but I still was not too shocked by the ending. A very easy read.

Nicole Baart is a good writer although she can throw in too much detail at times- but she def can write a suspense story…and keep the plot going til the very end
