I have known the author remotely as a deeply respected professional police captain, funny colleague and thoughtful woman. I was stunned by her extra ordinarily well told story of how she barely escaped an abusive marriage with another police officer. I learned so much when I thought I was informed. I strongly recommend that all my friends read this and be sure to share with men. We need men involved to address this critical issue plaguing too many women and children.
I've known Dottie Davis since I worked at the YWCA 20 years ago. (Did you know the local YWCA has the oldest domestic violence shelter in the state?) But I never knew much about Dottie's past until this work. She offers a lot of life lessons for women in this book and a first hand look at why men need to get involved in the effort to stop domestic violence. It's not a feel good story but one more of us need to educate ourselves about.
