I have known the author remotely as a deeply respected professional police captain, funny colleague and thoughtful woman. I was stunned by her extra ordinarily well told story of how she barely escaped an abusive marriage with another police officer. I learned so much when I thought I was informed. I strongly recommend that all my friends read this and be sure to share with men. We need men involved to address this critical issue plaguing too many women and children.

I've known Dottie Davis since I worked at the YWCA 20 years ago. (Did you know the local YWCA has the oldest domestic violence shelter in the state?) But I never knew much about Dottie's past until this work. She offers a lot of life lessons for women in this book and a first hand look at why men need to get involved in the effort to stop domestic violence. It's not a feel good story but one more of us need to educate ourselves about.

I know Dottie through my work as the Executive Director of a DV & SA service provider and she is incredibly talented at what she does, and when paired with her own personal stories of abuse, it makes her work that much more meaningful. This book had me crying the whole way through, but cheering at the call to action for men to help women end domestic violence.
