This book had a bit more photos and descriptions on the exhibits than others I have read. I can’t get enough of the 1939 fair. Love the art deco style. I got to see the 1964 fair….I just wish I could remember it!!!!
Seven essayists comment (& compare) on different topics on both fairs. Architecture choices, design choices, technology and products shown….and lots of criticism. I do find it interesting that Robert Moses got himself involved in both. He was a major player for a long time.
The few dismantling photos made me sentimental. This book is not a heavy duty study, but it is a nice compliment to other books on the subject.
Published to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the 1964 World's Fair, Remembering the Future is a highly illustrated collection of essays on the architecture and design, exhibits, and impact of both the 1939 and 1964 Fairs. From Robert Moses to Walt Disney and the men, women and companies behind the Fairs' plans, achievements and shortcomings. Urbanization, technology and scientific advancements dominated both Fairs. A glimpse inside the time capsules buried at both Fairs provides an amusing look at the cultural icons and kitsch of the times.
