Sweet story of a young woman who is struggling to conceive and how she goes off to scatter her grandfather’s ashes and discovers distant family she never knew she had. As always there’s magical realism in Heather’s stories!

A heartfelt celebration of found family, love, and a little everyday magic
This standalone contemporary women’s fiction novel is set in a charming fictional Alabama town where magical realism quietly weaves through everyday life. Told through alternating first-person perspectives from Sunny and Nova, each chapter opens with either a journal entry about plants or a snippet from an old gossip column, adding warmth and personality to the story.
Heather Webber has a gift for creating stories that feel both nostalgic and fresh, and this may be one of my favorites yet. The characters are wonderfully layered, deeply relatable, and the kind who settle into your heart long after you’ve turned the final page. Their relationships are filled with humor, tenderness, and genuine emotion that had me smiling one moment and reaching for a tissue the next.
At its heart, this is a story about family, belonging, change, and the sacrifices we make for the people we love. Wrapped in the warmth of a close-knit Southern community and sprinkled with just the right touch of magic, it is an uplifting, comforting read that left me wishing I could spend a little more time in its world. When I finished, my first thought was that I wanted to give this book a hug.
If you enjoy found family, magical realism, unforgettable characters, and stories that leave your heart a little fuller than before, I cannot recommend this one enough. Heather Webber remains an auto-buy author for me, and I already know I’ll be revisiting this story when my finished copy arrives.

Another wonderful read by Heather Webber. I absolutely love her books—they’re cozy, heartwarming, and feel so down-to-earth. Nova and Sunny’s relationship was one of my favorite parts of the story, and the twists near the end completely caught me by surprise. Such a charming and enjoyable read from beginning to end. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The heart of the book is Sunny and Nova finding each other. But there’s also mystery in a cozy sort of way. And a splash of romance.
Bottom line, it felt like a gentle hug. The one that goes on “slightly” too long but still feels good.

This was one of the most exciting ARCs I have ever received, and I was absolutely thrilled to be selected to read it. As a longtime Heather Webber fan, my expectations were incredibly high. and somehow, she exceeded every one of them. The Magic of Chamomile Cottage is now my favorite Heather Webber novel.
From the very first page, I was completely transported to the charming Southern town of Woodnote. Heather Webber has such a gift for creating settings that feel alive. I could practically hear each character's deep Southern accent through the pages, and every character, right down to their wonderfully unique names, felt instantly familiar. The moment someone appeared on the page, I felt like I had known them my whole life.
At the heart of the story is the cozy tea shop that serves as the soul of the community, bringing together friendships, families, and generations of stories. If I could choose any fictional town to call home, it would absolutely be Woodnote. It has all the warmth and charm of a Hallmark town, filled with people who make it feel like home from the moment you arrive.
Two of my favorite tropes; found family and family secrets. Which take center stage in this novel, and Heather Webber weaves them together beautifully. I couldn't wait to unravel the mystery surrounding the Mayhew family, and every revelation came at exactly the right moment. The pacing kept me turning pages well into the night because I simply had to know what happened next.
One of my favorite elements was how each chapter opened with either a page from George Mayhew's journal or an entry from the local gossip column, Hush My Mouth. These delightful additions gave Woodnote its own rich history and personality while slowly revealing pieces of the past. I found myself looking forward to every new chapter just to read the next journal entry or bit of town gossip.
As with all of Heather Webber's books, there's a gentle thread of magic woven throughout the story. I especially loved how birds quietly guided the characters along their journeys. No one openly acknowledges the magic, but it's always there subtle, comforting, and enchanting, adding another layer of wonder to an already beautiful story.
The Magic of Chamomile Cottage is everything I love about Heather Webber's writing: heartwarming characters, small-town Southern charm, a touch of magical realism, unforgettable friendships, long-buried family secrets, and a story that wraps around your heart. This is a book I couldn't put down and one I know I'll revisit again and again.
If you're looking for a cozy, magical read filled with hope, healing, and unforgettable characters, be sure to add this one to your TBR. It was an easy five-star read and one of my favorite books of the year.

Second chances, hope, healing, and a good cup of tea—you’ll find all that and everything readers have come to expect from a Heather Webber novel. Cozy vibes, a quaint small town, a colorful cast of characters, and a story full of heart with just a touch of magic. Once again, Webber’s talent for crafting richly developed characters and the relationships between them is on full display. There’s a little of something for everyone here: family drama, mysterious letters, hidden treasure, romance, and family in both its blood and found forms.
I especially loved the alternating chapter openers featuring Hush My Mouth clippings and excerpts from George’s journal. They added depth and personality to characters who were already gone by the time we meet our heroines, making the town’s history feel even more alive. The romances are sweet, and the love interests are steady, patient, kind, loyal, and willing to fight for the people they love. It’s the kind of heartwarming story I’ve come to expect from Webber.
I will admit that miscommunication as a central plot device has always been a pet peeve of mine, and much of the conflict here hinges on it. While it occasionally frustrated me, I also appreciated that the characters’ choices were grounded in believable emotions—stubbornness, fear, and pride. Their reluctance to share what they knew felt authentically human, even when I wanted to shake them.
While this isn’t my favorite Heather Webber novel, mostly down to the miscommunication and slower-than-usual pacing, it was exactly the cozy comfort read I needed. I also enjoyed spotting a reference to one of her earlier books, At the Coffee Shop of Curiosities—a fun little nod for longtime readers.

Oh my goodness, but this was sweet. A balm to the soul - much like the much touted cups of chamomile tea in this book, and etched on the gorgeous cover.
The real star of this book was the relationship between Sunny and Nova. The story is told from each of their perspectives - alternating along a linear timeline. While there was romance in the book, it wasn't the fuel behind it. Really, this book is about found family, redemption, community, positivity, rebirth, and reckoning. The whole vibe of the book felt super cozy, even during the moments of sadness. It was such a nice reprieve to read this one in the midst of some darker and heavier stories. It also provided a bit of mystery! As mystery is my favorite genre, I really enjoyed wondering who was leaving Sunny the newspaper clippings (and gratified to see my hunch was right).
I wish there had been a touch more depth in the mountain magic portions. Magic is present throughout the book. I love how gently it was introduced, and how it permeates the characters experiences. I wish we had a bit more backstory in the magic, and its traditions. Those traditions were a cornerstone in the history between the haves and have nots of the town, and some of those storylines were touch fuzzy and unresolved. The beginning of the book also felt a touch rushed. We went from the discovery of the town and the magic to Sunny rejecting it so quickly I felt like whiplash. After those first few chaotic chapters, the story really settled and allowed itself to unfold. Once we got there, the story was smooth and soothing. I wish that tempo had been throughout - told through some reveals, or a few extra chapters.
Overall, this was a cozy, sweet book. I enjoyed it very much, and will be checking out more of Heather Webber's works. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's press for access to this e-ARC to provide my honest thoughts!

My thoughts: I have read all of Heather Webber's standalone catalog, and I always end each book with a smile on my face, maybe a tear, and a deep reluctance to leave whatever fictional Alabama town I was enjoying. The Magic of Chamomile Cottage did not disappoint; it was fantastic from start to finish. I even intentionally slowed down my reading pace just so I could linger among the families of Woodnote a bit longer.
If you love Chicken Noodle Soup stories, Southern charm, and a touch of magic, you absolutely need to check out her work—and her books written under the pen name Heather Blake are fantastic as well! She is just as sweet in real life as she is in her writing, and that genuine warmth translates beautifully into her storytelling. Reading this book felt like a cross between a warm hug and a cozy cup of cocoa on a beach.
Recommend to others: Absolutely! This is going to make the perfect Christmas gift for some lucky book dragons this year.

Heather Webber’s books all seem to be like a cozy blanket for me. The Magic of Chamomile Cottage was no exception. I am drawn to magical realism and I feel like Webber is a stand out of this genre. The book begins wth Sunny finally spreading her grandfather’s ashes. He requested they be spread in a town she’d never heard of: Woodnote, Alabama. Sunny is suffering with heartbreak as she is ambivalent about her marriage because she thinks she can’t give her husband what he needs while also being steeped in grief after not only losing her treasured grandfather, but also her mother.
After she stumbles from the woods, she finds The Chamomile Cottage, a tea shop located in the cozy little community. There she meets the proprietor, Nova, who is gifted in seeing what ails people and providing them support through tea using special chamomile flowers. Funny enough, Sunny can “see” visions in tea cups that often come to pass. The two women share a gift of vision. Sunny is surprised when Nova reveals that their grandfathers were brothers. Sunny wants to know more about her own grandfather but something more draws her to stay. Sunny writes a blog about flipping houses so coming to Woodnote to write about the community - how Nova is working with other community members to revitalize the town, including an auction to win a house for one dollar - is a perfect match.
No sooner than Sunny is settled, she begins to get old “Hush my mouth” columns, somewhat gossipy excerpts from the local paper, stuck to her door. They are all relative to her grandfather in his youth in Woodnote. She is intrigued as again, she had never heard of Woodnote, yet it clearly held important memories for her grandfather. The columns combined with excerpts about various herbs from her grandfather’s journal add depth and curiosity to the story.
The story continues as Nova tirelessly, to a fault, works on her quest to forward the revitalization while denying her owns needs. Sunny, obviously related, is denying some of her own as well. Their devotion and mysteries in the fabric of the community kept me interested and invested in the outcome for Woodnote. As I have come to expect of Webber, the story the unfolds is quaint and magical.

No sooner than Sunny is settled, she begins to get old “Hush my mouth” columns, somewhat gossipy excerpts from the local paper, stuck to her door. They are all relative to her grandfather in his youth in Woodnote. She is intrigued as again, she had never heard of Woodnote, yet it clearly held important memories for her grandfather. The columns combined with excerpts about various herbs from her grandfather’s journal add depth and curiosity to the story.
The story continues as Nova tirelessly, to a fault, works on her quest to forward the revitalization while denying her owns needs. Sunny, obviously related, is denying some of her own as well. Their devotion and mysteries in the fabric of the community kept me interested and invested in the outcome for Woodnote. As I have come to expect of Webber, the story the unfolds is quaint and magical.

📝 ARC Review: Overall I quite enjoyed this story. It was rather relaxing and probably best read with a cup of hot tea!

This is a great feel good novel that will have you running for a cozy chair and a warm cup of tea. I loved everything about this novel.

This was the first book of Heather Webber's that I've read, and I enjoyed it thoroughly! I think this book falls in nicely with contemporary cozy fiction with magical elements, and reminded me a bit of Sarah Addison Allen's works. There were a lot of family secrets, which are hinted at and then slowly revealed throughout the book, and bits of magic with Nova able to see what's making people sick and Sunny able to see visions in the special chamomile tea.
I thought the plot was really well handled, and I loved that while there was romance and happy ever afters, the two points of view that the book went back and forth with were Nova and Sunny. It was really clear that the heart of the book was them finding each other and family and happiness, and while the romance was part of that, it was great that romance wasn't the ONLY thing that brought them joy.
The revitalization of the town was a lovely part of the story, and it was fun having various characters (like Erik and Sebastian and Claude!) introduced - you just know the arts and culture center and all the new stores on Main Street are going to be amazing.

This book had me hooked… I was laughing, crying, cringing & cheering throughout. I honestly think it would make a wonderful movie. Both main characters felt so real, and the tea shop is a place I’d dearly love to visit.
From the start we get chapters alternated between cousins Sunny and Nova, with wonderful chapter headings containing snippets from either Grandpa’s Journal or the old local Gazette. It adds a touch of whimsy, mystery and fun. I would love to have a recipe list of some of the tea blends Nova created.
While I really loved both characters, sometimes they’re written like they’re older (40s), while they behave a bit like they’re younger (early 20s). It didn’t take away from the story, but I had to remind myself of their ages at times. My only criticism, if you can call it that, is that we need a family tree. I had a hard time keeping up with the family members, feuds, etc.
By the end there were several moments of “I knew it!!”, but in a good way. Other twists though I totally didn’t see coming. Overall a wonderful book that I highly recommend and really appreciate NetGalley for providing me with an eARC.

Sunny has travelled to a new town to honor her grandfather’s request to scatter his ashes there. Unbeknownst to her, she has family there. I find it inspiring that he would have led her to this small, out of the way place. Sunny is torn between loving her husband and leaving him to find someone else who can bear him children bc of her infertility. I find it sacrificial, but a little selfish. However, in this magical town where one can see visions while sipping the magical chamomile tea, anything is possible.
The only thing I found super distracting was the description of each character as they came on the scene. Color of their eyes, their built, their clothes, plus more. I like to be able to picture the character in my own head with maybe a short description provided, such as their personality. Overall, I’ve loved all of the Heather Webber books I’ve read. I hope to reread this one once it’s published.

I adore Heather Webber's books. She creates worlds where I want to move, the community, the characters, even the town are all appealing. This book is no different. Sunny Callaway is headed to a small town to spread her grandfathers ashes. After accidentally getting lost, she follows the calls of the rain crows to discover a town that is dying, where the tea factory closed down years ago, and the people lost hope. But in the midst of this town, there is hope. Sunny and her followers, Nova and her tea shop, the mayor and the residents are all pulling together to rebuilt the town. With a bit of social media magic, a bit of chamomile magic and the town's belief in itself, things are bound to happen.
This is a lovely story, with wonderful characters, a bit of romance and plenty of emotional conversations and smiles to keep you engage throughout the book. Oh my gosh. What a wonderful, feel good, magical book. Everything I am coming to expect from a Heather Webber, if I’m being honest.
I will say, it was 4 stars for me until the last 25%. There were so many characters, and the way their stories all intertwined is amazing, but it’s also very difficult to keep straight in an ebook format. I really hope when they release the hardcover, it comes with a character bible, or a map of the town that says who owns what and how they’re related lol.
Obviously Clementine is my favorite character. I loved her intro, and whose dog she was. (No spoilers).
Nova and Sunny’s relationship is what we all dream of I think. That found family later in life (even though they were actual family, took them a minute to find each other) I think means more sometimes. Those bonds that weren’t a given might be cherished a bit more.
I think we all know a Mr. Owsley and love him dearly, with his charmingly cantankerous ways.
The cast of characters was tremendous, right down to nature itself with the chamomile leaning toward those it connected with, the cottage, and the garden.
I really enjoyed this book, and look forward to Heather’s next one. She is quickly becoming a favorite, right up there with Sarah Addison Allen.

I really enjoyed this book! I have read all of this authors books and she did not disappoint with her newest novel. She has just the right amount of family, community, mystery, love and of course magic mixed into this story. Sunny comes to Woodnote, Alabama to scatter her grandfathers ashes. A town she had never heard of and discovers family she never knew existed. Woodnote is a dying town until Sunny has a vision and tells her new found cousin Nova that she sees the town completely revitalized and thriving. A plan to sell abandoned town-owned homes for $1 in a lottery sale was organized to appeal to new residents and artisans. All this was part of the revitalization plan to transform the old tea factory into an art center and tourist destination to save the town. There is a few other storylines going on as well but I don’t want to give any spoilers. Trust me….add this to your TBR pile. You won’t regret it.

This is the first Heather Webber book I’ve read, and it won’t be the last. I absolutely loved everything about it! The characters, the realistic magic, the setting, the twists and turns. It is definitely a feel-good book, but the character’s problems are real and heartbreaking. I don’t very often re-read a book, but I will definitely buy this one in paperback and read it again. I am still wanting to figure out all the familial connections. I also loved that the main character is an influencer. There is beginning to be some disdain about influencers among older people like me. I just didn’t understand how it works, and they often feel very shallow. But this character is so believable, humble and truly excited about the stories she tells. Sigh. It made me laugh, and cry good tears, and was just like getting a hug. 5 stars!!! *****

Charming and sweet story of two women with special sight. One able to see illness in the eyes of people, and the other who sees images of the future in cups of tea. When Sunny’s grandfather’s last wish to have his ashes scattered at a particular spot in a small town, she travels there to find she has family she never knew. Reeling in grief from infertility, she leaves her husband in order to give him a chance to find someone else who can give him children. But he isn’t in agreement with this plan. Nova has romance problems of her own, as the man she loves can never be hers, due to an agreement made years before. This is essentially a romantasy novel, enjoyable, easy reading. I’ve really enjoyed all of Heather Webber’s books, but unfortunately, this one just wasn’t my favorite. I loved the cozy small-town setting, the magical elements, and the themes of family, healing, and community. The chamomile tea and its little bit of magic were especially fun.
That said, I felt like the book was a little too drawn out, while at the same time, the first couple of chapters had so much happening that it felt overwhelming. There were also a lot of characters and family connections to keep track of, which got confusing at times. Overall, it was an enjoyable and easy read, but compared to her other books, this one just didn’t have the same magic for me.

I love Heather Webber's writing and her brand of soft, whimsical magical realism (see also: Sarah Addison Allen). This one didn't quite grab me as hard as a few of her others, but overall I would still reach for anything Webber is writing.
The book almost needed a family tree illustration for me. I had a lot of trouble keeping the generations and names straight and by the end kind of gave up because only a few names really mattered at the end anyway. I loved the friendship between Sunny & Nova, found the illnesses maybe a little contrived but fine - loved the town revitilization project as a concept.
Worth the read, it was quick and lovely and a type of soft whimsy of which I can always use more.

This book is picture perfect Heather Webber. She does it again with her mystical, magical way with words.
Do yourselves a favor - make a pot of tea, snuggle under a comfy blanket, sit back and read The Magic of Chamomile Cottage. It will be time well spent.
