For three months, Ivan Petrov comes to my diner at 3am—black coffee, hundred-dollar tip, eyes like a storm. No small talk.
But when he stumbles in bleeding with sirens closing in, everything changes.
“Lock the door. Tell them I was here all night.”
The words bind us forever.
Now I’m his alibi, his obsession, the weakness he’ll burn city to protect.
“You lied for me,” he growls, trapping me against the counter. “That makes you mine.”
And every night, he proves it.
The Devil’s Alibi is a standalone, dual pov, forced proximity, dark mafia romance featuring a possessive, ‘touch her & I’ll unalive you’ type anti-hero and a feisty, smart heroine. Now OW drama, no cliffhanger, and a hard-won HEA.
DNF @30 did fun was not there...I'm not a writer but I read enough to know that this is not how you do mafia romance..sorry ---------------------- Mafia ✅ Russian ✅ 300p ✅ I just want to have fun
I had great hopes for this book, the premise seemed interesting. But then the writing came, and dare I say, ruined it all ?
I tried to get over it, but the writing felt really REALLY Wattpad-y. Which, wouldn’t be a problem if the story was on Wattpad and not a released book. I really stopped caring about this book when THIS came up:
She studies me for a moment. "Isn't this the part where I'm supposed to be happy? Girl dates rich guy, gets taken shopping, lives the dream?" "Most girls do." "I'm not most girls." "I know." I smile. "That's why I picked you."
The pick me vibes from that just gave me such an ick, I couldn’t take the story seriously anymore. Oh and when she referred to other women as plastic dolls, because those women care deeply about their appearance? Yeah it reeked of internalized misogyny, and “look at me I’m sooo special and not like other girls 🙂↕️” yikes
Character wise, true to the writing, they were sooo Wattpad-y, that it was painful to read about them.
First of the FMC: she could have had a good personality, temper, I don’t know something. But she was such a walking contradiction at the beginning of the book that it just angered me. And she lost all her fight so so fast it was disappointing. Plus the way her action kept contradicting her words, stay true to yourself for at least 2/3 chapters I don’t know!!! By the end of the book she was such a doormat that everything was chosen by the MMC for her. “ oh Ivan said that I should do that” “Ivan chose the color of my wedding dress for me” get a grip !! Grow a backbone !! Just something please !!!
The MMC felt as Wattpad-y as the FMC, but at least seemed to have a semblance of personality. Unfortunately the way he was written felt really cliché. I could have been obsessed if I were still in high school, but in an adult oriented book ? Yeah, no.
I appreciated the fact that the bratva’s problems were involved in the story as a whole, and not as an afterthought.
Their love story was wayyy too fast paced, I love slow burn romance. BUT I can love a fast paced romance IF it’s written well, which wasn’t what occurred here.
Not an awful reading experience but definitely not a pleasant one.
I expect these books to be unrealistic okay but this one was just so unrealistic to me for some reason. Like everything he did or said I just couldn’t believe
I am Ivan Petrov, Pakhan of the Chicago Bratva and son of Viktor Petrov. I've killed seventeen men with my own hands.”

You don't know what I crave." "Don't I?" He stands and moves behind me. His presence sends goosebumps across my skin. "You crave danger wrapped in safety. Violence controlled. Someone who can hurt you but chooses not to. Someone who sees how dark you are inside and wants you anyway." His breath is hot against my ear, overriding every instinct to run as he leans in, "Someone exactly like me."

"I can keep you safe. I will keep you safe." "Why?" "Because you saved my life tonight." - Ivan
I came across a reel/video promoting this book, and it piqued my interest; I thought, "Why not?" I gave it a go. The Devil's Alibi is a dark mafia romance featuring a Bratva boss MMC and a shy waitress FMC who saved him from a situation by becoming his alibi.
Starting strong, I was immediately pulled into the story. I breezed through the pages, which led to chapters. Overall, my reading experience was enjoyable; I liked the storyline. However, at times, I felt a subtle drop followed by a sudden increase in pace. It felt slightly jarring; hence, I was torn between liking it and not really enjoying my read as much as I did when I first began.
“Lots of strawberries.” “Well, what do you expect? Kidnapped artists go stir-crazy.” “Protective custody.” “Tomato, tomahto.” - Lila
Lila, the FMC, loves to read, especially dark mafia romances. It's always nice to see a character who has a love for reading, but I found it somewhat excessive in this book. In Lila's inner dialogues, most of the time, she compared her current situation to the books she had read. Sometimes, her behaviour irritated me. I mean, I get it—held captive by an intimidating mobster, but protected from a deadly outcome isn't ideal, but come on!
Yes, Lila comprehended the grave situation, but on the flip side, she was dense. In those moments, it didn't click for her. Lila couldn't understand why she could not leave and get back to her life. Well, could it be because of the dangerous men wanting to cause grievous harm, and the only thing standing in their way is the MMC, Ivan? Just saying. The hot and cold behaviour, and the back-and-forth, were a bit exhausting and frustrating. I don’t know, maybe I am nitpicking. Who knows? Anyway!
I loved Ivan! A man obsessed, Ivan staked his claim from the get-go! He was so protective and possessive of Lila. He literally burned down the world for her! Despite the challenges he faced, namely from the Bratva and his enemies, Ivan would not give up his woman! Lila is artistic; she drew spicy scenes and portraits of Ivan. And when Ivan discovered Lila's books and the sketches, he wanted to bring her fantasies to life 🔥
I had a fun time witnessing the banter between Lila and one of Ivan's soldiers, her reluctant bodyguard, Pyotr. It was great to see Lila work her magic—getting her big, scary, grumpy jailer to engage in a conversation with her.
Yes, now and then it did fall short; nevertheless, The Devil's Alibi was still an enjoyable read. If you are a fan of dark mafia romances or if you are looking for a palate cleanser, this might be for you.
What to expect: - Dark romance - Bratva mafia - Forced proximity/captive situation - Fast paced - Pakhan (mafia boss) MMC - Book lover, waitress FMC - Touch/hurt her & d!e - He'll burn the world for her - He's obsessed and protective - She sketches NSFW art pieces, and he brought said pieces to life
You might want to make sure to double check that you are buckled up, dangerous men, alpha’s personified, possessive, oh, gorgeous, brooding all the makings of a story consisting with three D’s (dark, delicious, and dirty) 😊. There will be suspense, betrayal, death, darkness, secrets reveled, violence, hope, forgiveness, and maybe even love along the way. Ivan sexy as all get out mafia boss a man you don’t want to be tangled up with dangerous, ruthless on a good day, deadly every day, every night the same routine black coffee at the same diner and served by the same waitress someone who sees more than his title, the danger that wears like a coat but the man even if it is just for a few moments. Lila works in a diner where she has seen some of every one come through the diner especially at the hours she works 3am in the morning but none as interesting as the dangerous mafia boss that comes for the usual cup of black coffee light conversation and then leaves every single night for months until that changes he comes in hurt, covered in blood demanding she lock the doors with the police hot on his heels asking she cover for him. Lila isn’t sure what to do but she knows she isn’t going to turn him in, so she locks the door and agrees he was there with her all night giving him an alibi thus sealing her fate so to speak or in his eyesight giving herself protection because she now belongs to him. The magnetic pull was already there now it is stronger but is it enough will she agree considering his lifestyle, can she show her she always belonged to him, he can protect her, will her alibi keep him off the radar of the officers, and will they find their own happiness somewhere along the way?
Ivan is a bratva boss in Chicago , who spends multiple nights per week at the small rundown diner to get his eyes on the beautiful blonde waitress, Lila … one lies and he takes her under his protection … she fights him at every single turn , at the same time falling for him slowly …. Age gap Bratva Kidnapping
For a shorter book it really gave the perfect amount of depth to each character. You really get attached to each of them. There were no games or childish antics from the heroine. She was amazing. I loved it.
From the Library of Sarah Ashley: #101 The roads were bad, so I figured I’d squeeze in one more book before the year ended… and wow, what a mistake. This book was rushed, forced, and completely unbelievable. There is absolutely no universe where the Bratva Pakhan falls madly in love with a broke waitress after three months of sipping burnt coffee in her run-down diner. Be so for real. No plot twists. No tension. No payoff. Just page after page of “trust me bro.” Honestly, I think Jade needs to read a few actual mafia romances, take notes, and try again. ⭐️ One star for the cover art and even that feels generous.
I was looking forward to reading this book as it sounded like a good solid Mafia read. However, I felt really disappointed 😞 . The story itself felt so lacking, unrealistic and rushed. The FMC's character was quite annoying and not really giving off future Bratva Queen vibes. I also felt the MMC, Ivan, his character was lacking. There was parts where he showed his possessive side etc but I felt there could be more to his character.
I can see what Jade Rowe has tried to do, however the book has the vibes of a Galeta/watpad book and just isn't for me.
If you want a quick mafia read to past the time between other books this is good for that, but unfortunately I couldn't rate it more than a 3.
I liked the premise for the book, but the FMC started to get on my nerves early on. Described as a feisty, smart heroine. Was the smart heroine in the room with us? The whiny pick me girl sure is. FMC alternates between being really into it her very own Mafia Boss / running away (please chase me Mr Mafia man) /Maybe I'm not good enough for him? / Yes tell me what to do/wear. Honeslty i was kind of hoping someone would beat some sense into her. But no, somehow even when falling into the clutches of evil. Was someone getting paid a bonus for every time the word Pakhan appeared in print?

I really enjoyed how well everything was put together, and the story kept me hooked from start to finish.
The characters felt very real and well-developed, and I especially loved their chemistry.
If you’re on the hunt for a spicy, suspenseful dark romance without unnecessary OW drama, featuring a hero who's deeply devoted and a smart, feisty heroine, I highly recommend giving this book a try.
Definitely a solid 4 out of 5!.

OMG this book!!! 10/10 Ivan and Lila's banter was chef's kiss!!! I love his obsession with her, his steps with her, the drawings, him reading her books to her, ALL OF TIME!!!! I love mafia romances any way but this one had me falling from chapter 1. I love the extent Ivan will go to for Lila. I love the HEA, just everything!
What a ride, what a read! The ossessive mafia man and the woman who lies to alibi him.
The world building was solidly drawn. The plot was intriguing and well paced. The characters drove the storyline and they were very compelling and complex and complicated and perfectly steamy together. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.
Grab a copy, kick back and enjoy!.

I really loved the beginning of this book. The heroine was sweet but still had some snark and humor, which I enjoyed. But once she goes with the MMC, things started to lose me. I was right there with him feeling confused by her mixed signals. She takes control one moment, then runs from him. Left me a bit confused.

The book is so easy to read i finished it in only one day. I though that it's special.,something different but big No. FMC is really stupid one time she is running from him the other time she is like dying for him I mean WTF. Like you are solving some science questions. Either you like him or not. When I read a book i want to feel I want to love the characters. In this book i felt absolutely NOTHING. The S€X scenes are really bad written.

🩶 Ivan and Lila Story, A decently darkish and an okayish storyline that takes our MC from two improbable strangers to two lovers. I enjoyed the story. I love how Ivan fell and made sure Lila was his no matter what.
The Devil`s Alibi vo Jade Row ist pure Dark-Romance-Sucht.
3.5 rounded down. It was a good time, it had a good premise but dang it I wanted Lila to have a backbone. I desperately want a FMC turn into a girl boss, to quit shaking in her Valentino dress and just embrace the life. Maybe I'm the problem but she was soooo close to being there but alas no. If she had turned into a girl boss I would have said 5* all day long. But the story has good vibes, is a spicy mafia fun time with a morally black/gray tattooed MMC willing to burn the world, literally.
This exhilarating story draws you into Ivan and Lila's banter and antics right from the beginning. It is intense and thrilling and their connection is off the chains sizzling and had me cheering them on to getting their happiness.

The readers who enjoy unapologetically dark mafia stories will likely find a lot to love here, but for me, while it was engaging and well-executed in parts, it didn’t linger emotionally the way I wanted it to.
Solid, dark at times and overall a good story, but it just was not a standout read for me.
I loved the story, but I have a question. This may be a tiny bit of a spoiler, but what happened with Sergei? It was never mentioned to Ivan by Lila after she found out. This confuses me, and I want to know. Other than that, I loved this book. It was my first by the author, but it won't be the last.
cliche, one dimensional characters, nothing special
Found this book on an ad and regret reading it. Trope driven, cliche, and predictable. Writing was mid. The female main character was very one dimensional and flip flopped all over the place. Bad Wattpad energy. Typical HEA ending. Wouldn’t be surprised if AI wrote it.
when I started this book, I fell in love instantly. the humour, the story, the cockiness of the FMC. but after the first 1/3, the timeline of events hit too quickly. it suddenly felt rushed and from that moment I couldn't feel the full emotion of the book, you know?
overall, a good read but not as captivating as I was hoping for.
Ivan has a 3am routine that brings him to the diner Lila works at, watching her, he becomes more obsesed and when he rushes in covered in blood and cops on his heels she provides him an alibi one that seals her fate as his. Well written engaging steamy desires drama action and more.
DNF - unfortunately you lost me when the MMC kept referencing how she likes to read mafia romance books. It made me cringe and I didn’t like it. Plus it’s been really boring so far and I just didn’t care anymore.
I really enjoyed this one. I love how Ivan fell and made sure Lila was his no matter what. I only wish we got more of Lila’s drawing played out. Pyotr stole my heart. He was such a sweetheart in his own way.
