Calling all readers age 8-12! If you have a child this age, they will be shouting and laughing with this graphic novel series for kids. I'm sure that they'll say, "Hey mom, listen to this!" The characters are written so vividly. Reading the text makes you feel like you're watching a movie.
We're introduced to the Blobs in Volume 1: Crash Land! The Blob's home planet is doomed to blow up. One day and emergency announcement tells them that they have just hours. to escape. Cadetski is the first to speak. He is a young blob who has failed to enroll in the Blob Force.
He gets a ticket for his best friend and himself and runs toward the escape pod area. When they meet the other characters who will ride with them, they slowly become acquainted. Unfortunately, their pod is about to crash into an unfriendly planet.
King Neptune is proud of his Doomsicle collection, though he knows that there are more to be discovered. His top military leader is Lord Zord, who is very tough and very loyal to the King. Cadetski is captured and all his friends plan how to help him escape.
As they free him, they must flee from the guards. Because the Blobs called for a rescue pod, it is their way of escape. The first volume ends with a "To Be Continued."
In Volume II, the Blobs are captives who have escaped from King Neptune. They stole the King's most important tools, the Doomsicles. These dangerous tools are sought out by the king and all the other bad guys in the galaxy.
Unfortunately, the crew didn't know what Wilby had brought on board. Now, they were flying home to Planet Splotch. Their parents greeted them excitedly as they disembarked from the escape pod. They had to tell everything to the Blob General.
Children will go crazy over this book, and the hilarious black and white comic-style photos. funny adventure books. There are four more funny adventure books on the way, to keep children laughing and cheering. #TheBlobsVolTwoMIN #theblobs #justinstuart
With the World's interest sharpened and focused on space programs, peopled trips around the moon, rockets landing, etc. it is easy to see how this kid's space adventure with weird critters would appeal to young readers. A clean story with friendships and overcoming bad all wrapped in the comedy of the weird, the funny, the alien world of space travel is spot-on engineered for fun.
This early readers' book for ages 8 to 12 is a chapter book will pages full of text and a sprinkling of small graphic pictures as well as full page scenes. It is the second book in the series and is filled with creatures mechanical as well as seemingly living beings (of a sort). Weird stuff of the absurd that is totally kid-loving stuff variety. Freaky. Simply cute overload. So there's a lot of visual fun that guides the reader's mind through the story helping to visualize all the critters and monsters that populate the story.
The character of "Lord Zord" is monstrously mean, loud, terrifying. The Glitchies are the underlings of "Lord Zord" and serve him with fear and trembling. And somehow they have lost their "Doomsicles."
The Blogs are rotund big-eyed creatures that have just escaped (as the book opens) in their "pod" the clutches of Lord Zord. And surprise..... they have the doomsicles.
What I didn't like... use of the word "freaks" to degrade someone. Yet this fit the personality of the speaker.
I like the comradery of the Blobs. Their kindness. Their friendliness.
I like the extras at the back showing "drawing" the Blobs.
I received a complimentary copy to facilitate a review. Opinions are mine, alone.
The Blobs: Attack of the Glitchies makes a great first impression with a fantastically fun cover and engaging artwork, but the experience inside the pages doesn't quite live up to the visual promise.
The Standouts • Visual Appeal: The cover is super fun, and the illustrations throughout the chapter book maintain that sense of playfulness. Visually, it’s a very inviting book for young readers.
The Disappointments • Heavy Descriptions: The book is heavily weighed down by filler descriptions of everything. Instead of moving the plot forward, these passages make the reading experience feel slow and, ultimately, boring.
• Jarring Dialogue: When the characters do speak, the text is filled with constant shouting and exclamation points. While intended to be exciting, it feels disconnected from the slow pace of the descriptions, leading to a "scene-to-scene" feeling that lacks a natural flow.
• Engagement Factor: Unfortunately, the balance of boring descriptions and shouting dialogue wasn't enough to hold interest—my 8-year-old was bored with the story by the end of chapter two.
Final Verdict While the illustrations are fun, the storytelling in The Blobs: Attack of the Glitchies struggles with pacing and tone. It’s a classic case of a book that looks great on the shelf but fails to keep a young reader engaged due to an over-reliance on description and a lack of meaningful character interaction.
Picking up right where the previous book left off, Cadetski and his friends are making the most of their new home. They tried to warn the Blob Force about the doomsicles, to no advail. Now King Neptune is coming to reclaim the doomsicles.
A fun follow up, filled with humor and a high stakes plot. The same characters return, in this hilarious adventure as they are challenged to fight evil power with sacrifice. I liked how Chubs, has a heart for others, and it was fun seeing him take to his new home and make new friends.
The illustrations bring the story to life, great for ages 8-12 who are starting to be confident readers. Full of imaginative fun, and clean humor. I liked how the Blobs learn to stand up to evil.
Overall, a fun continuation of the Blobs, with character growth and fun twists along the way. Engaging and fun, with clean humor, in a imginative new world. Highly enjoyable!
The Blobs: Vol Two: Attack of the Glitchies continues the series written by author, Justin Stuart. It was great catching up the Blobs group and seeing what they would get into this time around. It was yet again an adventurous, hilarious tale to read. A clean and delightful novel to read.
The Blobs: Vol Two: Attack of the Glitchies is illustrated by the talented artist, Rick Douglas. I found his pictures were a perfect addition to this book. I loved seeing the visuals of what was going on from page to page.
I am going to give The Blobs: Vol Two: Attack of the Glitchies five stars. I highly recommend it for readers between the ages of eight and twelve years of age and for those who love to read clean graphic novels. It would a fabulous way for parents to spend time with their younger ones. I would be interested in reading more books from Justin Stuart in the future.
I received a hard cover copy of Justin Stuart's The Blobs: Vol Two: Attack of the Glitchies from David C. Cook, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
Upper elementary (and maybe 3rd graders, too) readers will love reading "The Blobs: Attack of the Glitchies." Immediately following the events of the author's "The Blobs Crash Land," the five kid Blob friends are beginning to adjust to life on their new planet. (They'd just had to evacuate their home planet because of an incoming meteor.) However, there's a glitch: the Glitchies have followed the Blobs to regain their terrifying crystals, the "doomsicles." It appears that these doomsicles are not only sought after by a supervillain -- they bring out the worst in their handlers. And one of the Blob kids is entranced by them.
This book will be loved by kids who enjoy reading cartoon-y light chapter books. The story is interesting, the characters are fun and interesting, and the suspense is captivating but not too scary.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions shared are my own honest ones.
Volume 2 has the same high level of adventure, humor, excitement, and energy as Vol 1 - Crash Landing. Clean and wholesome, The Blobs are great entertainment for 3rd graders and up. Loyal friendships are developed and some tough decisions have to made when a Blob is faced with temptation or putting personal wants over the needs of the group. Heart-pounding action, genuine laughs, courage, and character development are a part of stories that resonates with readers and leave them wanting more. Kids will love them!!
