Jezebel

A Gothic Fantasy Novel

She was raised to repent.
She chose to reign.
Jezebel Hofmann has spent her life surviving other people’s righteousness.

Seventeen and alone, she escapes a childhood shaped by devotion, punishment, and a name wielded as a curse. Sandbar offers her something fragile and quiet. Work. A door that locks from the inside.

It doesn’t last.

Some powers predate human faith. Some bargains were written before scripture learned to bind. And some monsters don’t come to destroy, but to claim.

When Jezebel is pulled into a fae realm governed by dominion and blood-bound law, she discovers that survival is no longer enough. Choices tighten chains. Truth costs freedom. And the line between sinner and divinity is thinner than she was taught.

This is not a story about the chosen one.
It’s a story that refuses to kneel.

Dark and visceral, Jezebel is a modern gothic romantasy about power, autonomy, and a girl’s ever-growing, ungovernable rage.

Dark and consuming, built for those who know worlds revolve around villains. I write so readers can't stop thinking about what they read at 2 am when the house is quiet, and the story is watching.

Every time I read one of Phoenix's books, I am left with a massive book hangover.

Jezebel is a stand alone novel, based on the life of young Jezebel, a seventeen year old, who has recently escaped the clutches of a religiose narcissist of a mother, who frequently punishes Jezebel in the name of her religious beliefs. Jezebel finds herself in Sandbar, a beach-side town. She vows she will remain invisible for her final year of high school, so she can graduate, go to college and get on with her life, free from the clutches of her mother.

It's not long before strange things begin to happen, and the quiet, invisible life Jezebel wishes for is instantly turned on its head by several different young men. Jezebel, we quickly learn, was never going to go quietly into the night. Her new life and with all its oddities becomes her new normal. She is inextricably drawn to the 5 young men and her life is completely flipped on its head.

Jezebel is a novel of three parts. Each part and experience is another jigsaw piece falling into place in Jezebel's complicated life. Her transformation is like a throat punch. It comes quickly, sharply, her resilience and strength shining through, when others perish. The evolution of Jezebel, and the characters, Gabriel, Adrian, Dominic, Alexander and Wilder are a fantastic read. The change from a girl weak and scared to a woman who finds her power and owns it is refreshing. The coming of age for the male characters, mere boys, to the men they become is also extremely satisfying.

This is a book that eats the norm alive. It holds no punches, it delivers a fascinating story with stark honesty and snarky brutality. It is not a book for the fainthearted and delivers on spice! And it is beautifully written, with so many fantastic lines. One of my favourites being,
'Menagerie? Please. We are a curated collection.'
A massive 5 stars.

I knew I was going to love Jezebel.
Phoenix Drake is a master at story building, creating characters with depth that we can relate to and fall in love with – and the ones we love to hate!? Hells yes! Worlds that reel us in and suck us down, right into those pages until we can’t breathe, can’t think, just read and read some more.
Her writing is nothing short of stunning; as you can see by the amount of highlights I made in my kindle! Sentence after sentence that had me saying “YES”, I’m in love with each breadth of text. Stretch of words that are neatly, beautifully tied together in utter swoon worthy perfection giving us the most amazing scenes – all your senses will come alive! The picture Phoenix paints is tangible.

Raw and so potent; everything about Jezebel was perfect in my mind. I love how we start the story in the real world and then… are surprised, horrified and delighted by things we had no idea we were going to experience.
There is so much unapologetic REALNESS in this amazing fantasy world. Jezebel is authentic, crass, traumatized and simply herself. The banter, dark humor and honesty was refreshing and poetic.

A stunning story of a teenage girl thrown into a world she didn’t ask for, pressured to make choices she didn’t want, and left with…? You’ll just have to read to find out.

Gothic, why choose, shifter, fated mates, coming of age romance that’ll wrap you in sarcasm, found family, devastation, hope, strength and glitter.
SO MUCH SPICE – you have been warned – it’s epic, it’s stunning, it’s… Jezebel.

There is so much to love about this story. So. So much.
This is my favourite book Phoenix has written yet, and all have been amazing.

I will be thinking about the world of Jezebel for a long, long time.

Go get it. Get it now. Do it.

Those five stars were earned right off the bat, I would give it more if I could. This book is glorious.

Jezebel, named for what she's believed to be. She is thrust into adulthood much faster than most children should be, living on her own in a trailer at 17, praying she can stay invisible enough to just get through graduation. Until THEY show up.Gray-eyed and relentless. The harder Jezebel tries to blend in, the more she finds herself in the company of these beautiful, troubled, wild boys who are insistent on being in her world. But something else is hunting her, and whatever it is relentless.
This book is so powerful, especially Jezebel's character development. Each page is penned with careful detail that brings its readers into a world they cannot get enough of. The reader embarks on a journey of survival with Jezebel, but the survival shifts perspective as the book progresses. Romances are hot, heavy, monstrous, and fated. By the end, the reader is rooting for Jezebel in ways he or she never thought possible!
I absolutely adored this book! It belongs on the screen, and I truly hope to see it there someday. Another amazing masterpiece from Phoenix Drake.

DNF . Would have appreciated some trigger warnings, like one mentioning there a lot of cheating.
