Adela Reyna has found herself in a place of terror, uncertainty, and slavery--and she is the slave. She and her fellow experiments, nicknamed the Black Panthers, have dismal prospects for rescue, and perhaps worse dangers await them beyond the treasure-filled mountain, in a cruel, fearful, and unforgiving world. But Adela soon finds that the only way to truly escape this harsh environment is through her old companion, her Charango.
Though I was born in a foreign country, I have spent almost my entire life in Katy, Texas, a large suburb of Houston.
I've always enjoyed telling stories. Naturally, my yearning to share stories with the world led me to begin writing short stories of my own invention around the time I was 7. Surprisingly enough, I did not enjoy reading until I discovered The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo. After I was united with this book (which I read 2 1/2 times in one night), I began fiddling with the idea of writing my own novel. After two failed attempts, I changed strategy and began writing my first published novel, Talismen: Birthstones in the 6th grade. Talismen, after much help and support from my parents and teachers, was published through Amazon CreateSpace in 2012. Soon afterwards, my second novel, Charango, followed. Now, as a senior in highschool, about to enter the Dean's Scholars program at the University of Texas at Austin, I am looking towards the world of publishing.
I try to make my books as available as possible to the public. Because of this, I keep the book prices low and post large portions of the novels on my website, MetokaBooks.com.
Other things to know about me: -I have been taking Taekwondo lessons since age 5. During the years on my journey to becomming a 3rd degree blackbelt, my Taekwondo academy heavily influenced my morality and behavior (positively, of course).
-During the summer of 2014, I volunteered with a nonprofit known as Amigos de las Americas, an organization that trains and sends American youth leaders to Latin America for a volunteer service/cultural exchange. After several months of training and raising $2,000, I set off for Cotopaxi, Ecuador. My two partners and I (ages 16 and 17) held "campamentos" (camps) with community youth, facilitated the establishment of a community microenterprise (a guinea pig farm), and, most importantly, got to experience the beautiful Ecuadorian countryside and people.
- I am a firm lover of milk.
-My MBTI: INFP (not sure what compelled me to put that there. But there it is)
