Escaping a facility in California, a virus intended to help cure the world of violence unleashes an epidemic of rage infecting every nation on earth. A relief organization with the unfortunate acronym W.A.R.T. is the world's only hope of salvation. Enter Alban Bane, an acerbic, outrageous detective , and his new partner, Dr. Ada Kenner of the Center for Disease Control, who detects a pattern in the mysterious pockets of rage. The unlikely duo chase the virus from Los Angeles to France, Hong Kong, and Africa in a global race against time in the company of a ragtag cast of allies and enemies. This robust adventure satirizes medical thrillers and zombie stories in one suspenseful sweep, delivering equal measures of satire, thrills, suspense, and comedy.

Reviews on my new release MADicine, the second Alban Bane Thriller!

"Detective Alban Bane's second outing takes a satirical look at genetics research companies, zombie films and more....Armstrong’s action-packed second novel.”—Publisher’s Weekly

“A cantakerous detective, Alban Bane ... a touch of the hit TV series House ... Bane adds a delightfully sarcastic tone to the action ... keeps us chuckling.” —Booklist

“Amusing and entertaining ... recommended for all libraries.”—Libaray Journal

“Suspenseful and rich with dark humor ... in the thriller tradition of Weisman and Connolly.”—ForeWord

“A super sleuth.”—Kirkus

On The Last Troubadour -

"Brilliance in which in which Armstrong blends comedy, parody, and adventure in genuinely innovative ways. An author of abundant talent. An author to watch." --David Pitt, Booklist Magazine

“Tales about the Inquisition are not supposed to be amusing and entertaining, but Armstrong (The Game) manages to make them just that while keeping historical integrity.." Library Journal

"If I didn't know better, I'd say that Derek Armstrong wrote his novel, The Last Troubadour – Song of Montségur, purely for my own amusement and pleasure. With wit, wisdom (and more than an occasional wink) he has written a novel that panders to nearly every one of my cultural, spiritual, and historical prejudices. Set in thirteen century France – that hotbed heroes, heroines, and heresy – it's a wide-screen Technicolor adventure worthy of a full Errol Flynn treatment… an adventure for spiritual grownups that educates as much as it delights. I can't wait for the next in the series."

Lon Milo DuQuette – best-selling Author of Accidental Christ

"Derek Armstrong is good."
-- Michael Korda, Simon & Schuster VP.

"Kudos to Derek Armstrong ... this is a wonderful work of art" Bonnie Cehovet, TE, Aeclectic Tarot Reviewer

Really fun read for those who enjoy viral apocalyptic stories; you'll enjoy the small humor twist in this read, a trait of one main character. There are interesting characters who develop their stories along the viral road lol and many even live. I recommend this to those readers currently gobbling up apocalyptic, as well as medical stories -- in this you've the combo!

Derek Armstrong's Madicine is a relevant fictional commentary on greed, biological warfare, and science ethics. Ada Kenner is a virologist who discovers a new strain of virus engineered to eliminate the violent gene in humans. If it worked correctly, the virus would eliminate all violence from its test subjects, but it doesn't. It causes an even greater violence to sweep through the continents as Ada and her team race against time to discover a cure and figure out who has manufactured this deadly biological weapon before it gets into the wrong hands. This book jumps from country to country to tell the story, which at first seems disjointed, but quickly makes sense. This is not a light read, so if' you're tired, you might try something else. The plot is complicated and well-written. I recommend this book. It ranks up there with Michael Crichton's work.

DANG! Just like its opening character, Dr. Begley, MADICINE burst out of the gate like a shot and kept roaring down the road nonstop, with me hanging on for dear life. Fortunately, the book lasted longer than Begley. (That's not a spoiler -- all kinds of people kick the bucket before the story's finished.)

Taking the time-honored formulas of classical crime thrillers and adding his own brand of quirky irreverence, Armstrong has created a constantly moving tale of intrigue, greed, monstrosity, and evil. With prose that comes alive and some pretty damned unforgettable characters, MADICINE is one of those books many will hate finishing.

I thought this was a really good trashy thriller read. The characters pick up from his earlier book, The Game. I liked it enough to want to own it but it's hard to find in the bookstore and in the library.
