Before I get into this review make sure you start with Heart of a Thug 1 and then get into Heart of a Thug 2. Now let me tell you, this series truly had me feeling all the emotions! Again If you haven’t picked up Heart of a Thug (Book 1) yet, what are you waiting for? In the second book, we are back into the lives of Omar and Keisha, who are now parents and supposed to be living their best lives at least that’s how it looks at first.
But trouble is always lurking, and Looney Lucille is back on the scene. She’s lost everything and blames Omar and Keisha, plotting her revenge against them. Poor Sampson, Lucille’s ex-husband , who really has nothing to do with this mess, is dragged into her chaos. Lucille’s obsession leads her to enlist the help of some shady characters like a psychotic delusional lunatic who is hell bent on bringing down Omar and Keisha. Spoiler alert: things don’t go as planned for Lucille and it can be deadly for everyone. Keisha on the hand ain’t having it.
As the tension rises, Omar and Keisha end up having a big argument. Omar decides to go out with some employees to celebrate, but that’s when he walks right into Lucille’s trap. After that, everything starts to unravel, and I can't give away too much, but trust me when I say this book is loaded with drama, craziness, lies, betrayal, and all the love you can handle. You definitely need to check it out!

I seriously couldn’t find a single thing wrong with this book! It was so well written perfect pacing, not too slow and definitely not too fast. I was hooked from beginning to end. The sex scenes were🔥 There were plenty, but they didn’t overwhelm the story. I didn’t see any grammar or spelling issues. The excitement just kept building, and I felt every emotion while reading mad, sad, shocked, laughing, all of it.
Author Keely really knew what she was doing with this one. I mean, why is Ke doing so much? And why is Omar’s acting shocked like he don’t know she nuts? ! It felt like a tennis match one minute I was pissed at him, the next I was annoyed with her. They both got on my nerves so much that I was ready to throw the whole book away cause they kept pissing me off, but then I realized I’d be mad at myself.

One major takeaway from this book is the importance of mental health it’s something we all need to take seriously. The trauma we carry from our past can significantly affect how we give and receive love, how we navigate our lives, how we raise our kids, and ultimately, who we are as people. Ignoring that trauma can festers and lead to serious issues in our health and relationships, whether they’re friendships or romantic.
In the story, both Omar and Keisha are dealing with their own baggage, and it negatively impacts their lives. Another point that struck me was the pressure on Black men to always be strong and not to share their feelings. Bottling up those emotions only leads to internal destruction. I really appreciated how Ke and Omar made the decision to seek counseling as a way to begin their healing journey.
There’s a stigma surrounding mental health in many Black communities that often discourages people from seeking help, even though so many need therapy. I love that Author Keely brought attention to issues like postpartum depression and mental health awareness throughout the narrative. It’s a sensitive topic, but one that absolutely needs more discussion. This book does an incredible job of shedding light on these issues while still keeping you engaged in the story!
Verdict:
I definitely recommend this series because you can’t really have one without the other! I loved following the journey of Omar and Keisha. As the story unfolds, all the pieces start to come together in such a satisfying way. If you’re looking for a book that’ll keep you hooked and make it hard to put down, this is the one for you. Author Keely really knows how to stir things up she set is up to deal with some serious drama with this one. I absolutely loved the ending, and I’m already anxious to see what’s next with Bo and Shanna because Elijah and his parents have me heated already. Great job, sis! You know I love you and your writing! Keep it going!
If the MMC has to work hard to get the girl and disturb her peace, then he better work just as hard to keep her. Oh, and Omar did exactly that. That man made it hard to stay mad at his ass. His groveling was top tier. I kept thinking, “Ke… girl, how are you supposed to leave this man when he coming back like THIS?”
Now, I was genuinely scared for Omar. Ke was already on one before she even found out he cheated. She was giving him attitude, she stopped feeding his ass, and I just knew she was finna murder his ass and chop him up. Then the cheating came out and I was like… yeah, Omar, you might not make it.
The therapy sessions were some of my favorite parts of the book because they helped me understand why both of them reacted the way they did. Hell, I cried with them. 😭 I felt every bit of their pain. The whole time I kept asking myself why Ke wasn’t forgiving him, but then I remembered what happened with Sincere. She completely lost herself before, and she wasn’t trying to go back to that place again. Once I looked at it from that perspective, I understood her hesitation and crash outs a lot more.
I’m so happy she forgave him though. I hate cheating, but Omar went to work for his family. He realized he screwed up immediately and never stopped fighting for his marriage. Sixty seconds of mediocrity almost cost that man his wife, his family, and his happiness. The way Omar was acting, I honestly don’t think he would’ve survived that divorce.
I also loved that Ke acknowledged Omar’s growth. She recognized that he had changed and did everything he needed to do to earn his family back, and she made sure he knew she saw his effort. I appreciated that because people need to know when their growth is being recognized. At the same time, I think Ke needed to apologize too. Yeah, Omar cheated, but she put her hands on that man more than once and said anything she could to get a reaction out of him. I wasn’t even mad when he finally popped her because she was doing everything she could to push him there.
One of my favorite messages in this book was the recognition of Black fathers who actually show up for their children. We hear so much about the absent ones that the good fathers don’t get nearly enough credit. Omar and Omar’s dad was an amazing example of that. We didn’t get a lot of page time with him, but we didn’t need much to understand how strong their father-son bond was. He showed up for Omar, held him accountable, and still had his back. You could clearly see that’s where Omar learned how to be a great father because those boys absolutely loved their daddy. As someone who also has a Black father who showed up, I really appreciated seeing that represented.
I also have to give a shoutout to Omar’s homeboys. 😂 They were with the shits trying to help their homeboy get his woman back. They know damn well they could’ve taken his drunk ass home instead of dropping him off at Ke’s house.
Another thing I really appreciated was that the author didn’t use Omar’s hospital visit as an easy way to force forgiveness. I notice that happens a lot in urban fiction. The MMC does something wrong, ends up in the hospital, the FMC gets soft, and everything is magically okay. I’m so glad this book didn’t take that route.
Sometimes I read these books and forget about them immediately, nope not this one. I can’t forget this couple. Like what are they doing now, how many kids they gonna have by the time Bo’s book come out. Omar needs to stay off my girl.
As long as this author keeps writing stories like this, I’ll read every single one. This was fiction with realistic elements, and I loved that we got to experience every part of Ke and Omar’s journey instead of rushing to the happy ending.
What stood out most was how real the issues were. The book touched on domestic violence, broken homes, mental health struggles like anxiety and social anxiety, and even health issues. I appreciated how naturally these topics were included.
Omar and Keisha’s relationship had me stressed. Omar shocked me with how intense, possessive, and controlling he became, especially after showing more restraint in book one. Keisha, on the other hand, often pushed his boundaries and knew exactly how to provoke him. I originally believed they would balance each other out because she was the outgoing party girl and he was the quiet introvert. Opposites attract, and that contrast kept me invested, but their differences ended up fueling tension instead of peace.
The moment Omar could no longer hold his composure. I just knew it was over for him and Keisha, but like everything else, that too shall pass. I love black love, so if they didn't reconcile, I would have been okay with that, too.
I also appreciated how surprising this book was. I truly did not think I was prepared for some of the turns the story took, but I could not put it down. Keeley kept me emotionally invested from beginning to end.
Overall, this book was intense, messy, painful, and still powerful in its exploration of love, trauma, and survival. It will stay with me for a long time.
I ordered this book directly from the author, and let me start with the packaging. That alone was tea. Some of the best I’ve ever seen. It even came with a cute Omar themed item that I lowkey wish was full size.
Now… the BOOK. This story did something to me. It had so many layered plot elements, and the whole time I felt like I was watching a movie play out in my head. The emotions? Everywhere. In the best way.
Omar and Keisha have my whole heart. They are some of my favorite characters I’ve ever read about. I don’t know if I want to be Keisha and be with Omar, or sit on the sidelines rooting for them like they’re family but either way, they’re near and dear to me.
I loved this book, down bad. Everybody needs to read it. Start with Heart of a Thug (Book 1), and then immediately come to this one. No delays. No excuses. This was only the author's second book and I'm looking forward to the character that had a few chapters toward the end of the book.
✨ 10/10. Highly recommend. ✨

I started reading this book around 9:00 a.m., and even with work in between, I finished it by 9:00 p.m. the same day. A true page-turner—no doubt. This story took me through so many emotions. It was highly anticipated and absolutely lived up to the hype. I don’t even want to say too much because this is one of those books you really need to experience for yourself. So much realism and I truly need to debrief. Just know this: if you haven’t read Heart of a Thug 1 yet, go do that first. I love Omar and Keisha and the first book, It lays the foundation for all the growth, depth, and development in this sequel—and trust me, it’s worth it.
When I say, every emotion imaginable has been activated. Omg. The trauma that O was inflicting on Ke was because, he never dealt with his own. I loved reading about a man who was hardest of the hard but, was brought to his knees and tears, I guess thugs cry too. Ke having to go through every woman’s worst nightmare, being pregnant and cheated on. The therapy session brought so much to the light. The realization that Omar jumped right into manhood after the discovery of his mom and brother. Man this book was heavy, realistic, touching, gut wrenching but, man the HEA was the icing on the cake. And, I’m sure still a work in progress. Thank you Keely. Now, bring on Bo. lol
Watching others happiness and peace will have you questioning yourself about the things you’ve been through. Therapy provides you a safe space to express, share and reflect. Tools will be provided to guide you with past, present and future situations.
Keely wrapped Omar and Keisha’s scars in gold badges, diamond stitches with emerald and ruby bows.
Both Mr Carl (Omar’s Dad) and Mrs Alicia (Keisha’s Mom) were parents that called their children out on their actions no excuses or support of their wrong doing.
Keely knows how to bring real and raw in her writing . In book one we seen everything Ke and Omar went through with outside forces against them and them dealing with some hard trauma . Book 2 shows your healing is never done and if you don’t heal All the way you could risk it all. This book was so personal . We watch as Omar fights for his family and Ke fights for who she truly is !!!!! You are going to cry, curse, yell, scream , have to pause a few times reading this one . But it is definitely worth the wait and every single page !!!
Omar and Keisha put us through it! Especially Omar’s ass. I was immediately immersed in this world with them. I knew things weren’t going to be perfect but the total breakdown Omar had to go through was unexpected. And Keisha’s reaction was everything. I felt the pain of everything. I’m now that twist we got with the antagonist was fun. Can’t wait to get into Bo’s story.
From a man, this book gave me not only a male perspective but a female one as far as battling tough issues in relationships. Keisha is one of my many book wives but I was with Omar. I know how it is to EFF up and try to make it right. Author keely did her big one with book I and book II. Suggestion: read the Heart of a Thug 1 before this. You have to go in order for the themes this work dives into.
Whewww Keely took us on a ride with part 2, this was a beautifully written story about redemption, forgiveness, accountability, second chances and really putting the test of time to it.
I loved everything about this story, if you have not read this series please do, Keely writes real stories about love and life. I highly recommend this book!
This was a great finale. The way the author dealt with the mental health issues was superb. Omar and Ke loved each other, but while separated it was toxic. But I'm happy they finally got it together.
Once again, Keely has my blood pressure sky-high while reading her creation lol. The emotional rollercoaster that this book took me on was amazing. Definitely high on my list of best reads of the year!
