About the author

Roy Thomas was the FIRST Editor-in-Chief at Marvel--After Stan Lee stepped down from the position. Roy is a longtime comic book writer and editor. Thomas has written comics for Archie, Charlton, DC, Heroic Publishing, Marvel, and Topps over the years. Thomas currently edits the fanzine Alter Ego for Twomorrow's Publishing. He was Editor for Marvel comics from 1972-1974. He wrote for several titles at Marvel, such as Avengers, Thor, Invaders, Fantastic Four, X-Men, and notably Conan the Barbarian. Thomas is also known for his championing of Golden Age comic-book heroes — particularly the 1940s superhero team the Justice Society of America — and for lengthy writing stints on Marvel's X-Men and Avengers, and DC Comics' All-Star Squadron, among other titles.

Also a legendary creator. Creations include Wolverine, Carol Danvers, Ghost Rider, Vision, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Valkyrie, Morbius, Doc Samson, and Ultron. Roy has also worked for Archie, Charlton, and DC among others over the years.

In the seventies of the previous century I came across a b/w comic in the local bookstore the content of TSSOC did shatter my mind with the art and stories. Due to the fact that we had many American soldiers due to NATO responisibilities living in my neighbourhood so hence a lot of VS comics and magazines we to be gotten.

When I review these Conan related comics & books I come across many of the same people who are very knowledgable on the subject and always a pleasure to read.

This collection published by Titan & Heroic are from the Marvel original B/W comic that lasted 235 installments. This booklet sadly just in paperback and not in hardcover contains three big stories from the classic series from last century. The difference being that the stories are no longer B/W but coloured and being critical about this difference I must honestly admit that the stories look splendid. So a worthy publication.

This collection contains the first three publications of the Titan published TSSOC reforged series.
We start with one of Robert E Howards classics "The frost giant's Daughter" ( Which was first published in Savage tales #1)& "The Tower of the elephant" which are both scripted by legendary Roy Thomas and the art by Barry Windsor-Smith, John Buscema & Alfredo Alcala which is very close to perfect.
2nd part once again by Roy Thomas and art by Buscema & Alcala called " The Devil in Iron".
The 3rd story is written by Robert L. Yaple and art by Neal Adams has cannibals roaming the Streets of Zamboula and Conan saving a woman and her fiance from religious madmen in "Shadows in Zamboula."

All three stories would be considered classic in the genre of Conan the Barbarian. If you ever wanted to start in the world of Howards' Barbarian this is a great book to start with. For me the magazine TSSOC proved to be the start of a great love affaire with the character for close to 50 years.

I would have preferred this collection to be published as a hardcover but either way it collects issues #1, #2 and #3 of Titan Comics the Savage Sword of Conan Reforged magazine. These comics include a fine selection of stories from Conan's 1970s magazine run which have been newly colourised after the original black and white publication. Highlights include "The Frost Giant's Daughter" from Savage Tales #1; "Tower of the Elephant" from the Savage Sword of Conan #24; "The Devil In Iron" from the Savage Sword of Conan #15; and "Shadows In Zamboula" from the Savage Sword of Conan #14. Neal Adams, John Bucema, Alfredo Alcala and Barry Windsor Smith lead the roster of star artists with Roy Thomas taking on the task of adapting Robert E Howard's original stories. Both original and variant covers are included. I think readers will know what to expect when they pick up a Conan book and this collection features some of the best comic adaptions that have been produced. On that basis, a five star rating is indicated.

This is interesting. Titan has taken some of the original stories from Savage Sword of Conan which were originally black and white and colored them. The process looks really natural as well. Roy Thomas writes a lot of these but the art! Barry Windsor-Smith, Neal Adams, John Buscema and other classic Marvel artists draw most of the pages. These have been cherry-picked so don't expect them to follow any order.
