Drawing on over 25 years in safety, human resources, and leadership development, Dove blends personal anecdotes with real-world examples to show how values drive profitability, team engagement, and lasting reputation. From his transformative work with clients who experienced substantial growth by embedding values, to cautionary tales like Enron's collapse, Dove reveals the stakes of values-driven leadership. Through 11 chapters, he makes a case for why values matter, offers practical strategies to integrate them into daily operations, and provides a simple framework to ensure organizations are known for their values. The appendix features case studies showcasing how leaders across industries applied these principles to achieve measurable results, from low turnover to exponential growth. Whether you're a CEO or an aspiring leader, this book equips you to create a values-driven culture that attracts top talent and builds a legacy of impact. Perfect for readers of Traction by Gino Wickman and John Maxwell's leadership works, The Values Advantage is an essential read for transforming your organization from the inside out.

I have read a lot of leadership books over the years and very few of them stay with me the way this one has. Wes Dove has a gift for taking something that sounds abstract, like organizational values, and making it feel urgent, practical, and deeply personal all at once. The real world case studies in the appendix are worth the price of the book alone. Seeing how leaders across completely different industries applied these principles and achieved measurable results makes everything he teaches feel immediately actionable.

I discovered The Values Advantage through the Manayunk Book Club spotlight, and it turned out to be one of the most practical leadership books I’ve read in a long time. What stood out most during our discussion was how clearly the author connects values to everyday decisions. It’s not abstract at all. It made me reflect on how often we say we value something but act differently under pressure. This book gives a framework to close that gap, which I found incredibly useful.

Our Manayunk Book Club discussion around this book was incredibly engaging. What I appreciated most about The Values Advantage is how it moves beyond theory and actually shows how values impact performance, culture, and trust. Several of us shared real-life examples where misalignment caused issues, and the book gave language to those experiences. It’s the kind of book you don’t just read once, you revisit and apply over time.

I came into the Manayunk Book Club session not knowing what to expect, but The Values Advantage really surprised me. It’s straightforward, practical, and very relevant, especially for anyone in leadership or team environments. The conversation we had as a group made it even more impactful. It’s one thing to read about values, but another to actually reflect on how you’re living them. This book pushes you to do that in a very real way.

Through the Manayunk Book Club spotlight, this book sparked one of the most thoughtful discussions we’ve had. What resonated with me was the idea that values are not just statements but systems that guide behavior. That perspective shifted how I think about leadership entirely. It also made me consider how organizations often fail not because of strategy, but because of misalignment in values. Very insightful and practical.

Values matter

This book makes a strong case for why values matter. Not only why they matter, but why they’re a hidden advantage.

It’s a point that small businesses neglect. But if you get it right, it helps you across the board: associate satisfaction, net promoter score, lower turnover, etc.

I like Wes’s casual style also.

It’s worth a read.
