I was so excited to receive an ARC for a new series by one of my favorite authors. I read this story in one sitting and it kept me guessing until the end.

Cassidy, Tessa and Morgan have a podcast for unsolved mysteries. They are trying to scale the business so they can make a living and stumble across an unsolved case located where Cassidy's father grew up. Her grandmother, who she has never met, runs an Inn in the area. Cassidy sees this as a sign to pursue for two reasons, follow the mystery and meet her grandmother. Cassidy and Tessa are talking to the locals to gather some content for their podcast while Morgan works from their home base. Cassidy has met the woman who is her grandmother, but has not revealed that she is her granddaughter. Her grandmother, Ellen, has a cool exterior and appears to have her own secrets. Cassidy and Tessa have found more stories of missing women and the common denominator is a connection to the Inn. The two have struck a nerve as they have encountered dangerous accidents and a warning to leave. They're determined to keep going and Cassidy is leading the charge. However, unexpected clues begin to surface and more secrets are revealing themselves which has put Cassidy in danger.

This story had all the suspense, mystery and unexpected turns that you would expect with a good thriller. I loved this first book and look forward to more stories come.

The story moved too slow for me, at times I wanted to stop, but since I purchased this book, I pushed through. Can't say this was a thriller, at least I didn't think it was for about 3/4 of the story. The last quarter it all came together fast.

I must admit I struggled to finish this one. As an avid reader of Barbara Freethy, I was rather disappointed. I don’t know if it was because of my own mindset, but I found the story lacked momentum and pace.

Barbara Freethy has done it again; I absolutely loved Is Anyone Listening? and thoroughly enjoyed reading it! It is the first book in her new Mysteries Uncorked: A Podcast Thriller. It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Who does not love a romantic thriller with a surprise ending and lots of plot twists and turns? Once again Barbara Freethy, a must-read author for me, has shown that she is a master storyteller and definitely did not disappoint her readers. I love how she developed the story line and the characters. I was hooked from the first few pages; it was impossible to put it down and I loved every moment on every page of this incredible page turner! I love the romantic thriller, the setting, and the amazing characters. I love that she wrote Is Anyone Listening? in the first person from the perspective of the main character, Cassidy Clarke. I loved getting inside her mind and knowing her thoughts and how she really feels. Is Anyone Listening? is the story of Cassidy Clarke, Mysteries Uncorked podcaster. Cassidy and her friends recently lost their jobs at Bright Horizons and decided to start the Mysteries Uncorked podcast looking into cold cases. Tessa and Cassidy take their podcast on the road to Stonecross, Maine and the Stonecross Inn. They are looking into the disappearance of Natalie Warren after a three-day stay at the inn. For Cassidy, she wants to meet her paternal grandmother, Ellen. Ellen and Cassidy’s father, David have been estranged since David was eighteen. Cassidy checks in using her late mother’s maiden name, Bennett, so as not to reveal her identify to Ellen. While investigating Natalie’s disappearance, Cassidy and Tessa learn about other females that have disappeared after staying at the Stonecross Inn. Cassidy discovers history about her father and his parents during a visit to the library and speaking to the residents of Stonecross. Neither Ellen or the police chief, Tom Holloway are willing to help Cassidy and Tessa. Mysterious occurrences happen to Cassidy and Tessa. Tessa is injured after she falls down the stairs at the inn. Cassidy must reveal her identity to her grandmother. Tyler Pierce, an architect, works with Cassidy to find Jessica Trent, who also disappeared from the inn. Tyler needs Jessica help to clear his brother of criminal charges. As Cassidy and Tyler, along with Finn Kelly, former Army, who currently runs Kelly’s Pub, work together to figure out who is behind all the events, things slowly change between Cassidy and Tyler, Cassidy, and Finn. I love the chemistry between them. I love the secrets that Cassidy and Finn share with one another and all the surprises that they discover together while trying to find answers. A surprise plot twist puts Cassidy’s life in danger multiple times. I love all the unexpected plot twists and turns throughout the story, including what Ellen and Tom were doing and what really happened to Jessica Trent. One of my favorite parts of the story is the surprise that is revealed at the end of the story and the impact that has on Cassidy. The ratings for the Mysteries Uncorked skyrocket with Cassidy’s involvement in the Natalie Warren case. Cassidy continues to post updates on the case while Tessa recovers from her injuries in the hospital. Is Anyone Listening? was an incredible romantic thriller and had me guessing who was behind the events that were happening to Cassidy, and the attack on Cassidy. The closer Cassidy and Finn get to solving the mystery the more risks are involved putting Cassidy’s life in danger. I never saw the villain or the real story behind other events that took place in the past until it was revealed in the story. It truly took me by surprise. I love how Cassidy changed during the story from, becoming a strong confident woman achieving her own dreams and how Finn made changes in his life. My favorite part is the ending, and how it is a perfect ending. I love the descriptions of the Maine setting, makes me want to visit the inn. Barbara Freethy has once again delivered an amazing story filled with everything that I have come to love about her books. She has once again provided her readers with the amazing characters that I have come to love and expect in her books, they feel like family! I love how Barbara develops her characters in such a way that you fall in love with them and care about them much like a good friend. Is Anyone Listening? is filled with poignant and bittersweet moments as well as plot twists and surprises that I have come to love and expect in Barbara Freethy thriller, she continues to deliver all that and so much more. It was an incredible romantic thriller. Looking for a great romantic thriller, then I highly recommend Is Anyone Listening? I received an advanced copy from the author.

Psychological thriller set in the world of podcasting
Barbara Freethy is a go-to author for me. I will read anything she writes and have never been disappointed, whether the title is romance, suspense or thriller. So I was delighted to open an email from the author with a link to an ARC of her newest title “Is Anyone Listening?”
All opinions are my own.
I was hooked on this psychological thriller from the first page — three friends and former co-workers who take a situation of lemons and make lemonade in the form of a podcast in which they discuss true crime cases. On the brink of the podcast getting bigger, the trio decide it’s time to do more than talk — they decide to travel to the site of their next case to investigate.
Freethy’s mysteries are always well-plotted, and I enjoyed riding along with the women and watching them ask questions and bounce possibilities off each other. By Chapter 5, I truly did think I’d “solved” the mystery or at least identified why the women in question would have disappeared. Despite how sure I was, I knew Freethy would throw in plenty of surprises for me — and she certainly did with twists I did not see coming.
Throw in some family drama — Cassidy meeting the paternal grandmother her father refuses to speak about — and “Is Anyone Listening?” had all the elements I love. The pace moved so quickly that I read this in less than 24 hours (started on a Friday evening and finished Saturday afternoon).
Fans of Freethy will enjoy this start of a new series. For those who haven’t read Freethy yet, “Is Anyone Listening?” is a perfect book introduction.

Cassidy, Tessa, and Morgan are three NYC women who have decided to use their time off from work making a true crime podcast. After losing their jobs, they decide to try to make their hobby a possible career. They all agree that what they are doing isn’t going to get enough views or make them money, so they come up with the brilliant idea to travel to a location and try to solve a cold case. It seems like fate when Cassidy stumbles on a cold case of a missing woman, in the town her father was born where she was forbidden ever to go. As Cassidy and Tessa travel to Stonecross they stay at the historic inn that her grandmother owns, and start asking questions. As they poke around into the disappearance of the one woman, they realize more mysterious and possibly sinister things have happened in this town. The more they learn, the more accidents and scary things start happening and their lives are soon in danger. Will all their questions help them find out what happened to the missing woman, or will it cost them their lives? This was a fast paced thriller with a lot of mystery, drama, and a bit of romance thrown in. There were so many well timed twists and turns, and I was kept guessing right up until the end what happened. Another amazing thriller from Barbara Freethy that I hope is the start of a new series! I received an ARC, and this is my honest review.

Ms. Freethy has proven herself as a master storyteller and she definitely doesn't disappoint with this new book! Cassidy and her two friends all lost their jobs and are trying to find new ones when they decide to do a mystery podcast. They gain a sponsor but know in order to get more and actually have this be their job, they have to take it to the next level. That's when they decide to go on the road with the podcast. They tease their listeners but then have to find a case to delve into. What comes up fairly close by, proves interesting personally for Cassidy. They decide on a young missing woman from the town her father is from and the Inn involved is owned by her grandmother, who she's never met because her dad and his family are estranged. Things are creepy from the beginning, her grandmother isn't friendly especially for an inn owner, a chance run in with a stranger alerts Cassidy that there has been multiple woman who have disappeared, strange noises and visitors at the inn. But is it a coincidence, overactive imagination or is this really dangerous for them? I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my review.

Cassidy, Tessa, and Morgan are three friends living in New York City who decide to create true-crime podcasts when they are laid off from their jobs. Cassidy and Tessa decide to go on location to explore the disappearance of Natalie, a woman last seen at Stonecross Inn on the Maine coast. Cassidy also wants to meet her grandmother, the woman who runs the inn and has no idea that Cassidy exists.
The podcast becomes popular after events happen in response to the girls’ experiences. As they discover similar cases centered around the Inn, Cassidy and Tessa find themselves in dangerous situations. A fall down the stairs put Tessa in the hospital. Cassidy is forced off the road, causing injuries. She finds it difficult to know whom she can trust.
I love Barbara Freethy’s books. This one, the start of a new series, is different from many of the others. It reads more like a thriller – certainly hard to put down. I’m anxious to discover where this story takes us, as I know a second one is already planned. I am excited to read it as soon as I can.

Any book summary that starts with a group of friends and a few glasses of wine sounds like its right up my alley. And when it's a new mystery/thriller by Barbara Freethy, I'm definitely all in. Main characters Cassidy, Morgan & Tessa are city girls who have all recently lost their jobs, and decide to start a true crime podcast as a lark, and a way to maybe make a little money while they look for new employment. As their podcast starts to grow and they are courting sponsors, they decide to take their show on the road and actually record their podcast in a town where one of the crimes happened. They settle on Stonecross, Maine where Cassidy actually has a connection - a grandmother she's never met owns the inn where the woman who went missing was staying. Once they start asking questions around town, it becomes obvious that someone doesn't want them there, and will do anything to protect their secrets. Typical of Barbara Freethy books, there's a little romance thrown in, and a complete "wow, I didn't see that coming" resolution to the cold case. Great story!

Is Anybody Listening begins a new Barbara Freethy series: Mysteries Uncorked: A Podcast Thriller, and it certainly will keep the reader guessing. Three currently unemployed ladies, Cassidy, Tessa, and Morgan began doing podcasts exploring cold cases. The first book deals with the disappearance of a woman who just happened to stay at the Stonecross Inn, owned by the grandmother Cassidy has never met because of some unknown estrangement with her father. So right away we have two mysteries. Once Cassidy and Tessa start asking questions it appears that there have been more than one guest who seems to have vanished into thin air. Ms. Freethy has populated this story with some characters whose truthfulness might only be a facade…and will Cassidy ever reveal her true identity to her grandmother? Give yourself plenty of time to complete this thriller in one sitting. My review is completely voluntary. Most highly recommend.

Three friends with a struggling pod cast decide to take it up a notch by going to the site of an unsolved missing person’s case. That the site also happens to be an inn run by one of the trio’s grandmothers strongly influences their choice, especially since the grandmother and granddaughter don’t know about each other.
It doesn’t take long to figure out that something fishy is going on at the inn. There are more women missing than was first thought. The local police seem content to quickly close the missing person’s cases with only a token investigation. But digging deeper only leaves one of the trio injured and no new answers. Who to trust? Who to believe?
Is anyone Listening is a white-knuckle thrill ride. I don’t know where to start. It’s action, it’s suspense, it’s sister-bonding. I love seeing how the characters grew into themselves. The story was perfectly paced (and I wouldn’t expect anything less for Barbara Freethy).

I love a good mystery thriller to read. This book is based on three friends that create a podcast for fun and continue it out of necessity. The fact that their podcast is based on my other favorite genre true crime and trying to find answers to the unsolved, made this a must read. This book exceeded my expectations. Ms. Freethy has a way of writing that draws you in and makes you feel part of the story. This is full of twist and turns you will not see coming and have no clue where it will end until the last chapter. The story moves along at a nice pace. The characters are relatable and likeable, or not. There are three friends on this podcast, but this mainly focuses on Cassidy and her story full of its own family mystery. Looking forward to seeing where this new series takes us. truly enjoyed this one.

Where did all the girls go?? Barbara Freethy is one of my favorite authors. I received an ARC of “Is Anyone Listening?” This story held my attention from the first page. Three women started a podcast “Mysteries Uncorked” after they became unemployed. At first the podcast was for fun until they decided to follow a cold case of a presumed murdered woman. Natalie Warren had stayed at the Stonecross Inn for three days and disappeared. Cassidy, Tessa, and Morgan decided to visit Stonecross to investigate her disappearance. Unfortunately, only Cassidy and Tessa made the trip. Once they arrived, they found that many women were missing. Cassidy had a second reason to visit the Inn. Her grandmother ran the Inn. They had never met.
There are twists and turns from the beginning to the end. This book begins a new series for Ms Freethy. I can’t wait for Book 2 to come out

I am a big fan of Barbara Freethy’s mysteries and was excited to see the start of this new series. I wasn’t sure what to expect - the description seemed kind of like a cross between her recent stand-alone mysteries, and her long standing FBI mysteries which I love. I loved it! It brings in the current popularity of podcasts, and offers a mystery that has personal ties with one of the casters. Those ties drive the desire of these podcasters to follow this particular cold case while also bringing in the danger they face. There are many twists, turns I didn’t see coming, overlapping stories and events, and plenty of tension and suspense. I had trouble putting it down and look forward to reading more in this series.

Barbara Freethy comes through again with her new series, Mysteries Uncorked. The first in the series, Is Anyone Listening?, is intense and suspenseful. It has all the twists and turns necessary to make it an excellent thriller. Three friends find themselves unemployed and decide to start a podcast about true crimes while job hunting. When they are unsuccessful with the job search, they take the podcast a step further and try to solve a cold case. While doing so, “accidents” happen but law enforcement seems to look the other way. The danger is real and finally culminates with Cassidy almost losing her life, twice! The book had me hooked and offered a surprise at the end I didn’t see coming. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

“Is Anyone Listening?” is a standout! I’ve been reading Barbara Freethy’s books since her first novel was published, and usually, after so many books by the same author, I can almost predict who the villains are going to be. Not this time! This book caught me completely off guard. Even during this busy time of year, I zipped through it. True-crime stories are incredibly addicting, and Barbara’s ability to blend suspense with realism makes this book especially compelling. The characters are well developed and genuinely interesting, with Cassidy Clarke standing out as a strong, engaging lead. Mystery-thriller fans will not be disappointed. I am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series!

Lots of twists in this story! I was pulled into the story right away and happily followed all of the twists and surprises. I really liked the three main characters and how they got started investigating cold cases. The focus in this book was on Cassidy and she had some secrets of her own when travelling to Maine. There were plenty of suspects and while I thought I had a clue, I only had some of the pieces and was surprised at how the story evolved. I enjoyed all of the twists and really liked the ending. I'm already looking forward to stories about the other two members of the trio. I always enjoy books by this author, but this one was one of my favorites. I received an advance copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Wow! I've been a fan of Ms. Freethy for years and enjoy all of the books she writes. Is Anyone Listening is just a fabulously mysterious look at a Bed and Breakfast in Maine where there have been some odd disappearances of young, possibly troubled women. Add in the 'family' relationship, the men that may or may not be involved in the disappearances, and other happenings that make you go hmmmm...and you have a perfect storm of theories for a podcasting trio of young women who are investigating cold cases.

This is a well told thriller with so many strings to pull. The ending was perfectly done and although I had my own theory of who done it...I was wrong! Well played Ms. Freethy, well played.

An intriguing mystery to start this series! Cassidy, Tessa, and Morgan run a podcast and decide to choose a case to investigate to drum up sponsors and listeners. Cassidy feels called to investigate a woman missing from Stonecross, Maine - where her father was from and her grandmother she has never met runs the inn the woman disappeared from. Cassidy and Tessa arrive and soon find themselves in danger as someone doesn’t want their questions answered. They also discover there are more missing women than just the one.

Lots of twists and turns in this story and an ending that was surprising. I look forward to more from this series!

Thanks to the author for a review copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

An intriguing and suspenseful tale of secrets, victims, cover-up, and estranged family. Three unemployed friends embark on a mystery podcast to find a missing woman. Little did they know how entrenched the town of Stonecross is relating to these mysterious disappearances. In this “edge of your seat” story, you don’t know who to trust and when crossing the line will put you in danger. Cassidy is a force of nature. Struggling with her jobless status, she is determined to fine the missing Natalie and possibly more victims regardless of the danger ahead. Perfection as always. Thanks Barbara for another ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!!!!

Cassidy, Tessa and Morgan have long been interested in true crime stories and have decided to start a podcast. Their podcast takes them to an Inn on the coast that has a connection to Cassidy. They are investigating the disappearance of one woman but as they get further into the case they find that there may be more than one woman who has vanished from the area. No one in the town wants to talk. Someone doesn’t want them investigating and will go to any lengths to stop them. The suspense in this book starts from the beginning. There really so many possible culprits you don’t know who to trust. This is a good suspense book that is fast paced and will hold your interest.

When Cassidy, Morgan, and Tessa lose their jobs at the same firm, they decide to start Mysteries Uncorked.
Basically, a podcast in where they drink wine and talk about true crime mysteries, unfortunately, one happened at the Stonecross Inn
Which is run by Cassidy’s estranged grandmother…. Realizing that they are unemployed, Cassidy and Tessa decide to check in to the inn and snoop around, hoping to draw more listeners to their podcast… what they get is way more!!
This book has so many twists and turns, just when i thought I knew it all I realized I knew nothing LOL
This is the first book in the new series, and I look forward to more.

I just love books with unexpected twists and turns. This was such a new and fresh premise for a book. Three friends who host a podcast regarding mysteries decide to investigate one of those mysteries. They certainly got more than they bargained for and so did we as readers. While most of the events focused on one of the three friends, I love how the author kept the other two friends involved. As I read, I began to figure a few things out….and then realized I hadn’t figured much out at all. Barbara Freethy keeps you guessing till the very end. What a journey this book is and I know you will love every minute of it.

Wow-another great story by author Barbara Freethy. Is Anyone Listening is the first book in the new mysteries uncorked: A Podcast Thriller. I have listened to podcast before but it is still a new experience for me. To read a story about how 3 women started this podcast and got a following and continued to make the podcast better was interesting to say the least. The plot of the story pulled me in to read more and see what did happen to these missing women. I thought I had the mystery figured out several times but the twist and turns keep me turning the pages. I look forward to the next story and hope to sea how Tessa, Cassidy, and Morgan are doing. Another book I highly recommend.

This book is what I believe will launch the Mysteries Uncorked: A Podcast Thriller series, delivering an engaging romantic thriller filled with unexpected twists. The story follows Cassidy Clarke, a podcaster investigating cold cases, alongside her friend Tessa, as they delve into the mysterious disappearance of Natalie Warren from Stonecross Inn. As Cassidy seeks to connect with her estranged grandmother, she uncovers troubling history about her family and faces dangers linked to the inn’s past. The novel's surprise ending and descriptions of Maine create a page turning experience. I really enjoyed this story.

“Is Anyone Listening”, another page turner book by Barbara Freethy is out for sale now. So good and definitely a page turner you can’t put down, this one was exciting from start to finish. Cassidy Clarke and two friends have a podcast called Mysteries Uncorked. Tessa and Cassidy travel to a town where a number of women have disappeared and start searching for their podcast. This book will definitely give you a book hang over! You get sucked in right away. It also keeps you on the edge of your seat. Once you think you know what happened boom something else happens. Cassidy and her friends Tessa and Morgan have a podcast and it’s starting to become popular. They need this to work so they have income coming in. So they decide to go to the place the crime happened. The thing is, that Cassidy is going to be closer to the case than the others. But the real question is will they figure who the killer is and if they do, can they make it out alive?

Is Anyone Listening? is Book One in Barbara Freethy’s new Mysteries Uncorked series. When I first started reading it I thought that this book and series was not my going to interest me. However, Ms. Freethy, in true Barbara Freethy fashion, quickly grabbed my attention and changed my mind. The action and suspense was non-stop and the ending was not at all what I expected. I thought I had it figured out . . . I didn’t.

I recommend Is Anyone Listening to readers who love fast action and suspense. I am looking forward to the next book in the Mysteries Uncorked series.

One thing I find really frustrating in thrillers, is how trusting people are, Cassidy is no different, she just tells way too much to people she just met. And she's a true crime fan!!! She should know better. That being said I really enjoyed this one, it takes a while for everything to come together but the family story ended up being very touching. Without giving too much away, I liked that the killer was a "nice guy", most abusers probably are so that was pretty realistic. I also really loved the atmosphere, there is just something about Maine I guess.
