‘Winter Darkness’ is set to the backdrop of a hard, darkening winter. DI Emily Golding and retired DI Liz James are unexpectedly reunited when the City and Fenland murder squad finds itself under pressure. New arrivals to the city’s diverse population are squeezing stretched budgets and services, whilst uneasy social tensions build.
Late on a dark November night in the bleak fenland landscape, a car, involved in a botched robbery, is recovered from Witch’s Dyke. What the road traffic officers are unprepared for is the discovery of a body…
During the cold, dark days of winter in this modern city with an ancient heart, complicated communities are revealed and a web of suspicion builds.
As someone who reads a lot of crime fiction I always approach a new (to me) author with caution. However in this case I need not have worried. From the start I felt fully engaged and wanted to follow it to its conclusion. Well written, crossing the worlds of the law and education, I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good murder mystery. Look forward to the follow up.
