I’m a pageant queen on the run and a marriage of convenience to the barn’s grumpy blacksmith is the only thing that can save me.

After escaping my controlling parents, I run as far away as I can, to Star Mountain Horse Rescue in Montana. But I need money to protect myself and I can’t access my trust fund unless I get married.

Jonah Smith is the tattooed, taciturn farrier at the barn, and he’s disliked me and my sunshine smiles from the moment we met. But he needs money to pay his mom’s medical debt, and it doesn’t take much to get him to agree to a hasty marriage of convenience.

Our marriage isn’t supposed to be real. Jonah is a cynical grump and I want freedom, not another set of shackles. But underneath his tough exterior, Jonah is kind and caring.

He vows to protect me from my family. He holds me when I cry and takes care of me when I’m sick. He calls me his wife and gives me a ring.

We married for money. But before I know it, I’m falling for my husband.

Oh my God Lucy Harper did it again! Thank you to Lucy and her team for an ARC of Making Wild Vows. With the addition of Jonah and Winnie to the Star Mountain crew, we’re gifted another strong FMC in Winnie and a near perfect MMC in Jonah. The May has started out as enemies but it quickly becomes clear that they are meant for each other! Winnie’s parents are such awful people and for her to be so kind and find such amazing people in her life willing to help her escape was so endearing to read. One of the best parts of the early start to this series are the characters that Lucy has created and she keeps adding emotional depth and development to these characters that make me want to keep returning to this series.

Making Wild Vows left me almost speechless. This book wrecked me in the best way and rebuilt me completely by the ending. It is beautiful, messy, heartbreaking, and deeply human. I went in expecting romance, but what I found was a raw exploration of growing up, unlearning, and realizing that we are allowed to want more for ourselves. Healing isn’t simple — and even when you finally free yourself, that quiet little voice in your head can still creep back in.

Jonah and Winnie both carry so much. He wants to care for his family but doesn’t have the means, while she pours everything she has into people who take and take without giving back. Though Winnie’s world is rooted in pageantry, her struggles feel painfully familiar: be strong, smile, don’t complain, and never make waves. Watching her begin to question that narrative was powerful and emotional to witness.

This story also quietly but powerfully reminds you that asking for help can feel like weakness — like admitting you can’t handle things on your own. But in reality, being able to ask for help is an act of strength. It’s an opening, a vulnerability, and proof that there are people out there who will love you exactly as you are.

Just when I thought I knew where the story was going, the rug was pulled out from under me. I knew something was coming — but I was not prepared for the full weight of it. The twists, the tension, and the emotional depth make this a true roller coaster of a read. At its core, though, this is a story about finding your voice, choosing yourself, and discovering that family and love can be found in unexpected places.

If you love character-driven stories with heart, complexity, and a touch of angst — this one will stay with you

Making Wild Vows was a delightful follow up to the first book in the series, and I loved reading more about Winnie's past and getting a closer look at her life as a pageant queen!

Jonah is a grumpy Farrier who's been working himself day and night to pay off his mom's medical debt, but Jonah has dreams that are much bigger than taking care of the horses he loves so much. Winnie is a pageant queen and former Miss Alabama who fled her controlling parents and now finds herself in a small town married to a the hottest grump she's ever laid eyes on and hoping to enjoy her new start in life. Both are holding back due to fear but what happens when you let your heart lead you.

I really really loved Winnie, she's such a kind, outgoing person and getting to see her find herself and come into her own was so special. Jonah was the perfect grump with a heart of gold and he was the perfect mix of protective and supportive knowing just how to make Winnie feel safe. I felt like they had good chemistry and there were some really great moments with tension and anticipation. I do with there was a little bit more relationship building between the two MC's off page, more mentions of them spending time together watching movies or sharing small moments throughout the day and I wish her parents had more fall out a resolution from what they did.

Overall this was a really sweet second book in the series and I thought it balanced the emotional moments well with the fun and flirty moments and it's the perfect read for anyone who loves a marriage of convenience and small towns.

It’s such a wonderful feeling to fall in love with a new book by an author you’ve never known before! This happened for me with Making Wild Vows by Lucy Harper. I literally could not put this book down and I was sad when it was over. I actually miss the characters!

First, the setting has my heart - Star Mountain Horse Rescue in Montana. The horses are so sweet and part of the healing process for Winnie, the female main character who escaped her caged life as famous pageant queen with cruel and controlling parents. Winnie finds refuge at the horse rescue with her best friend Candace. As she arrives, she meets the grumpy horse farrier, Jonah. Their first encounters are rough and it’s surprising to see Jonah’s true and kind character unfold as he steps up to help Winnie.

Eventually Winnie and Jonah end up in a marriage of convenience and it’s a delicious slow burn as we see them start to fall in love. Their sexual chemistry is HOT! The character development is lovely, and I found myself wanting to jump into the book to defend them against Winnie’s awful parents. The last few chapters were so exciting that I stayed up late into the night to finish the book. It has a very satisfying ending!

Making Wild Vows is book two in the Star Mountain Horse Rescue series and can be read as standalone. I just purchased book one, Roping Wild Dreams.

Thank you to Lucy Harper and Love Notes PR for the opportunity to read this ARC.

Country romances always have my heart, and Making Wild Vows delivered in the best way. Discovering a new author and falling in love with their storytelling so quickly is such a special feeling—and Lucy Harper absolutely nailed it.

Winnie is such a beautifully written and complex character. Her growth throughout the story is incredibly rewarding, and she is so deeply deserving of everything she achieves. She’s fun, layered, and refreshingly different from characters I’ve read before, which made her journey even more engaging.

Jonah, despite his best efforts to convince you otherwise, is an absolute sweetheart, and the love he has for his people is everything. The dynamic between him and Winnie was one of my favourite parts of the book—their connection is natural, emotional, and so easy to root for because you can just tell how much they mean to each other."

The setting of Star Mountain Horse Rescue was the perfect backdrop for this story. It felt warm, meaningful, and integral to Winnie’s journey, rather than simply existing in the background.

Messy, heartfelt, and full of giggles alongside quiet heartbreaks, Making Wild Vows was such a joy to read. A beautifully emotional country romance that I won’t be forgetting anytime soon.

Making Wild Vows was such a great read!! This is the story of Winnie, a beauty queen on the run from her controlling parents, seeking refuge at the Star Mountain Horse Rescue. There, she meets Jonah, the local farrier, and they agree to a marriage of convenience.

Making Wild Vows is such a sweet story, the central romance feels earnest, and the entire cast of characters is wonderful, the FMC and MMC are lovely, and the side characters flesh out a sweet small town atmosphere. Winnie is warm and kind, and the reader falls in love with her just as easily as Jonah does. Jonah is just as kind, a gruff exterior hiding a large heart, and the soul of a musician.

I admit to kicking my feet and giggling when Winnie is referred to as “cowgirl Barbie”, the setting of a horse rescue made my horse girly heart warm. I also personally loved the musical sub-plot, it was really sweet seeing Winnie and Jonah bond over their love of music. Pacing is great too, I couldn’t put this down, and read it in less than a day.

Making Wild Vows is great, I highly recommend it if you are looking for your next romantic read! Huge thank you to Love Notes PR and the author for providing an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Winnie, former pageant queen, and current social media star has finally broken free from a life that she had no control over. She makes her way to a childhood friend who owns a horse rescue in Montana. Her first night there she meets Jonah, and it seems to be hate at first sight.

Jonah is the local farrier for the rescue, and good friends with the owners. And he quickly becomes just the person Winnie needs to help her. In order to remain free from her parents, who have decided to sue her for leaving, she needs to marry someone to gain access to a trust fund. Jonah quickly agrees to be her husband, and in exchange she’ll pay off his mothers cancer treatment bills. Seems like a win win.

Will her parents let her go that easily? Will Jonah be able to keep her safe? And just how long will it take for them to fall in love with each other?

This is only the second cowboy romance I’ve ever read and I absolutely loved it! It is the second book in the series so I need to go back and read that one about Winnie’s Friend but I loved this one and the fire that develops between Winnie and Jonah quite quickly.

I consumed this in less than a day. This was a 4.5-star read for me ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨

I love this author’s writing style, and this is the second book in the series that I’ve read. I am completely hooked. I really enjoy the characters and absolutely loved the premise of this story.

We meet Winny, a pageant queen on the run, trying to establish herself outside of the pageant world and become more than what it defined her as. She’s resilient, talented, and endlessly creative (totally giving Libra vibes ⚖️). Jonah is a farrier, more reserved, but equally talented, who has been struggling to support his family while consistently putting himself last.

Together, they learn that they are both worthy of love and deserving of more. Giving themselves to each other doesn’t mean losing who they are, and it’s okay to exist exactly as they are.

Making Wild Vows is a small-town cowboy romance that mixes found family and marriage of convenience trope.

The story follows Winnie, a pageant queen who escapes a life controlled by her parents and runs to Star Mountain Horse Rescue in Montana, hoping to start over. She needs access to her trust fund to stay independent, but there’s one condition: she must be married.

That’s where Jonah comes in. He is the rescue’s farrier, and because he needs money to pay his mother’s medical bills, they agree to a fake marriage.

Their relationship starts with tension and misunderstandings, but slowly grows into something deeper. Winnie learns how to make her own choices and live without fear, while Jonah opens up emotionally and allows himself to trust someone.

The found family dynamic and the warm atmosphere at Star Mountain Horse Rescue pulled me into the story and made me wish I could be there. As a country romance reader, I truly enjoyed it.

Thank you to Lucy and Love Notes for providing me with an ARC of this story!

This was so fun and entertaining! I love a small town, grumpy cowboy story, mixed in with a bit of dislike-to-lovers and a marriage of convenience and this was the perfect set-up for me. I thought Jonah and Winnie were so entertaining to read about, their back and forth in the beginning was really fun and then seeing them open up and begin to trust each other more throughout the story was really nice to see also. Winne was a real badass and in the face of everything her parents had put her through, was very strong. Jonah, once past the grump exterior, was so sweet and caring and it become clear very early on that he cared for Winnie and had a soft spot for her. He seemed willing to do just about anything for her in her battle against her parents and I thought that aspect added something really unique and fun that made me keep turning the page.

I will definitely be returning to this series in the future and I look forward to seeing what's next at Star Mountain Horse Rescue!

I am very appreciative of Lucy Harper and Love Notes PR for the opportunity to read an e-ARC of Making Wild Vows!

Making Wild Vows was such a cute and entertaining small town romance! I enjoyed seeing both Winnie’s and Jonah’s character development throughout the book. Seeing them learn to trust and rely on each other was really sweet!

I also love how they supported each other and that Jonah never tried to control Winnie’s actions. Winnie finding her chosen family at Star Mountain and having support from all of them was really heartwarming. And I loved that Winnie learned to be unapologetically herself!

The story line with Winnie’s parents was so interesting to read about and added a level of excitement to the book!

Making Wild Vows is a marriage of convenience romance that will have you falling in love with each character. Well the most important characters. Because eff her parents.

Winnie Grant makes it out from under her controlling parents for now. But she knows she’s needs her trust to make sure she’s absolutely free of them. Enter the grumpy farrier, Jonah Smith. When these two first met it wasn’t a meet cute but soon turned into something more. These two get married and the fun begins. You truly get to see these two fall in love in real time. You start to see their trust and their relationship grow.

I loved it! Read it! Highly recommended.

ARC review

4⭐️

Pageant Queen Winnie is escaping her controlling parents by coming to Star Mountain Rescue, owned by her best friend Candace. There she meets Jonah, the ranch farrier (he makes horseshoes) and they don’t like each other. But, in order to help both of them out, they enter into a marriage of convenience.

I really enjoyed this second instalment! Winnie was a really interesting character which, much like Jonah, I wasn’t expecting. Her’s and Jonas romance was super sweet and funny at times.
This was a really easy read, and I look forward to more books in this series!

Thanks to LoveNotes PR for the ARC 💌 All opinions are my own.

Winnie is a strong FMC who has been through far too much, and seeing her finally choose herself and find people willing to protect and support her was incredibly satisfying.
The enemies-to-lovers dynamic between Winnie and Jonah quickly turns into something deeper, and I loved how naturally their connection developed. Jonah is exactly the kind of MMC you want in a story like this: protective, steady, and quietly emotional. Their marriage-of-convenience setup adds tension, but also a lot of heart, especially as it becomes clear they’re exactly what the other needs.

This is the second book in the series and picks up right from a scene in the first but through Winnie and Jonah’s POVs.
Winnie is a pageant queen on the run - though her character has so much depth and trauma from her family. Despite her own baggage, she recognizes that Jonah is there for everyone else but doesn’t have that same support. - and Jonah, well Jonah is the grumpy farrier that never saw her coming. Seeing their marriage of convenience grow into feelings was so sweet.

I’m really appreciative for the opportunity given by Lucy Harper and Love Notes PR of getting this ARC!

While this book had a storyline i’ve never read before, between a pageant queen running away from her abusive parents right into the arms of a farrier in a horse rescue, I kinda felt rushed sometimes but it’s probably because I’m used to read slow burns!

Winnie and Jonah are the definition of right person right time!

Another great book by Lucy Harper. The books in series have been so quick to read because you don’t want to put them down!

I thought the storylines had some heavy themes but were written really well. The main characters were lovable and it was great to see the characters from the previous book.

Already looking forward to the next book and would recommend this to anyone who likes small town cowboy stories.
