I hated the hero. Now I have to be him.Cade Miller just pulled an all-nighter reading all 247 chapters of the hit webcomic The Six. His professional opinion? The story was garbage, the stakes were nonexistent, and the protagonist, Hunter Vance, was a bland cardboard cutout with too much plot armor.
But when Cade leaves a scathing review, the “System” decides to give him exactly what he asked for.
Now, Cade is trapped inside the new script of Amesbury Academy. But there’s a the original script is broken. The world is glitching, the “fourth wall” is paper-thin, and if Cade doesn't follow the narrative, the entire world will undergo a Narrative Collapse, erasing everyone he’s come to care about.
To survive, Cade must navigate a school for the gifted, master a system that labels him the “Alpha Protagonist,” and claim the destiny bonds of six powerful women who were supposed to fall for Hunter, not him.
Amesbury Academy is a “world inside a comic” setting where tropes are real and the fourth wall is a literal hazard. Adult themes are explored. The Narrative Leveling, destiny bonds, and meta-narrative powers. High A race against time to stop the story from resetting and erasing reality. Slow-Burn Harem Six powerful “fiancées,” each with their own agendas.
This book had a pretty interesting premise, but it also has the MC gaining 6 LIs in 550 pages, so the romance of it was pretty minimal.
The MC finishes a web comic and writes a scathing review because of how much plot armor there was, and the MC having 6 "bonded women" that he is clueless with. And 'lo and behold, the next day he's in the story. And as he tries to navigate the 6 different story arcs, the story starts to break down. The world starts to glitch, and he's forced to make a choice of whether to let the story fail or complete it as expected. With the help of his techie friend and the originally planned "hero", he tries to navigate the arcs.
The first LI is decently done, but she jumps him right after he saves her life. No build-up, just right to sex. The second LI is pretty much the same, and the third jumps him before her arc is even done. The others don't complete nearly as much, and only join in for the epilogue as lovers. The romance is very sparse, and with each succeeding LI, gets much shorter. He knew the last LI in person for 24hrs.
There is a sequel planned (or already out) with a new antagonist that's supposed to try and fracture his relationships with his LIs. I'm not sure I want to read that. We'll see.
