A brand-new, never-before-seen genre mashup—taking everything we love about dark why-choose spicy romance and crossing it with a cozy small-town mystery wrapped in secrets and shadows.
Sadie Hunt absolutely crushed it again.
From the very first page, this story pulls you into Blackwell Hollow with an unforgettable opening: an awkward gathering around a corpse in a gazebo. Yes… that kind of town.
Our FMC is adorably chaotic and instantly lovable, inheriting mysterious property from an estranged aunt and stepping straight into trouble she never saw coming.
And then come the caretakers…
🔥 Beck — the town baker whose sweets tempt and tantalize, though he knows exactly what he wants for dessert. 🔥 Noah — the groundskeeper who isn’t afraid to get dirty… in all the best ways. 🔥 Dane — the front-of-house manager, hard as nails in more ways than one.
Add in a quirky cast of townsfolk, an unsolved mystery lurking beneath polite smiles, hairless cats riding in strollers while being chased by Mayor Biscuit, and you have what should be a recipe for disaster.
And honestly? It is.
But it’s also the genre mashup you never knew you needed—dark, cozy, chaotic, and completely addictive.
The mystery keeps you guessing until the final reveal, delivering a true whodunnit while the townspeople—and three dangerously inked men—slowly worm their way into your heart.
⭐ Rating: 5 Stars 🌶️ Spice Level: High 4/5
I cannot wait to return to Blackwell Hollow for more secrets, more chaos, and more deliciously dark adventures.
This book is everything I wanted and needed. When I first heard about it, I was like yes please. Unlike any book I have read before. With the cozy mystery and the hot scenes and also the banter, I could not get enough.
Avery finds herself in Blackwell Hollow because she inherited a house and everything with in from her late aunt, including 3 caretakers. When she gets there, she finds something unfortunate and ends up being stuck there for a bit. What she didn’t expect were the three caretakers to be inked and insanely attractive.
Noah, Dane, and Beck are such great characters and find themselves all attracted to Avery. Each with different personalities that are just the type to make you want to read more.
The mystery part had me guessing all the way to the end. Such a great read and loved the quirkiness and banter and especially the hot scenes. A must read!
I went in expecting a fun, small-town why choose romance with a little mystery… and instead, I got completely consumed. Like, cancel your plans, ignore your phone, “just one more chapter” at 2AM kind of hooked.
A dead body in a gazebo✔️ A mysterious inheritance✔️ Blackwell Hollow—a town dripping in secrets, chaos, and unhinged gossip✔️ The moment I arrived in this town, I was trapped and totally captivated…this town is basically a character and I’m obsessed.
And the MEN. Ohhh, the men… 🫦 🍪Beck melts your heart (and everything else). 🌿Noah is quiet, grounded and FILTHY. 🖤Dane? Broody, broken, tension incarnate.
Avery is my kind of heroine, sharp, stubborn, completely real. She holds her own with all of them, flawed but fierce and I loved her.
Chemistry? Explosive. Dirty talk? Sizzling. Tension? Unbearable. Twists? I didn’t see a single one coming. Every time I thought I had it figured out… nope. Think again!!
Beyond the romance and spice, there’s a deep emotional core about belonging and finding your people. Plus… ducks. And a hairless cat in a stroller. I mean, come on👀
This isn’t just a romance. This isn’t just a mystery. It’s a full-blown experience.
And the AUTHOR?? Seriously, what did you put in this book? You’ve done it again—hooked me, wrecked me and left me obsessed.
If you love small town chaos, spicy romance, jaw-dropping twists and why choose love stories… READ. THIS. BOOK.
*Reverse Harem *Contemporary *Multi-1st-PoV *Cosy Dark?! *Murder Mystery *Small Town *Quirky City Girl *Established Harem (3) *Mid-Burn *Standalone? HFN Quirky Light read This is something very different from what has come previously from this author! It does still have a high level of chemistry and some good steamy scenes 🔥 I think the darkest element is that it’s a murder mystery and that’s it 😅 Our FMC Avery is certainly unique with her charms (she doesn’t swear!) and is a little bit naive and in her own bubble - sometimes it comes across immature and for me I struggled to see her as an adult who had her life in the city then inherited the house/businesses, rather than a young NA. The three men who live at the house are drastically different giving a good variety - Beck the baker is very much the golden retriever energy; Noah is a quieter grounding prescience; and then Beck the house manager is a broody bloke with hidden depths. There’s some tensions between the characters as people decide what they want but it’s pretty easy going 😁 it’s not got a huge amount of depth to the story but it’s a quirky quick RH read.
I received an Arc copy for my honest review of this book!
This was the perfect read to get me out of my slump! Sadie is usually a dark romance author, but with this new book she blends cozy and dark romance in a way I have yet to come across! I had so much fun reading about Avery and the three inked and veryyy attractive men she was forced to move in with when she inherited her aunt's mansion. I really enjoyed the mystery aspect of the book, the surprise cameo from some other characters of Blackwell Hollows, and the spice was top tier 😮💨 If you are looking for a reverse harem that has mixes of sexy moments, mystery, silliness and coziness, pick up this book!!
Yes, yes, yes!! I totally needed this book!! It was refreshing, but still managed to have a bit of dark romance, steam, and my personal favorite why choose! Right away I was pulled into Avery's story. The body at the very beginning, left me wondering what happened and kept me captivated! In addition there was humor, small town drama and gossip, spice, and most definitely mystery. I loved Avery. She was smart, funny, and the fact that she didn't want to cuss. Lol Dane, Noah, and Beck...perfection in their own ways. I absolutely loved this book!!
This was a fun read, different from Sadies normal why-choose Dark Romances. I felt the story flowed really well, and the murder mystery wasn't obvious and we were gathering the clues along with Avery. The spice was superb, especially them putting what she wants first. I like how Noah, Beck and Dane fit into the story, and her time spent with each of them. I really don't know much else to say except I really enjoyed reading it.
Thank you Sadie Hunt for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
I loved these characters they were fun and relatable.
They had there sexy times and I love a good baby girl moment so Dane had me hooked there.
I thought this was super fast paced, there could been a bit more to the mystery aspect I think but it was still a really good one and is solved by the ending.
I can’t wait to see what else might happen in this quirky town if there is more to Blackwell hollow. The sides characters are a hoot themselves!
This is a very SOFT 2 stars. I love Sadie Hunt and I was obsessed with the Blackwell Butchers. Im used to reading darker books, and I did not realize this was a cozy murder mystery. if thats what you are looking for, its fantastic. However, I found it a bit boring. The stakes were extremely low and Avery doesn't like cussing for some reason? It was weird how she said things like "oh my gravy" and I knew I wasnt vibing with her. But overall, its well written, the characters are mostly likeable, and the spice is good as always.
I am a MASSIVE Sadie Hunt fan but the closer we got to receiving this ARC, I wasn't sure what I was going to be in for. For those not familiar, Sadie is the author of the Blackwell Falls world, which is dark romance with a metric shit ton of spice.
This is NOT that.
NOTHING BAD EVER HAPPENS HERE is set in the same world as Blackwell Falls but this time, we're tucked away in a small town nearby called Blackwell Hollow.
So here's what I picture: WandaVision. Did you watch WandaVision??? It was a Marvel Cinematic Universe television series that follows Wanda Maximoff (the Scarlett Witch) as she creates alternate worlds to cope the unbearable grief of losing the love of her life (tell me again that Marvel is just overblown superhero fights, nerd). Each episode of that show is like dipping into a different TV series. That's what this book felt like: The people of Blackwell Falls fall into an episode of The Gilmore Girls but there are hints here and there of the darkness they come from.
Okay, so this is where the genre gets dicey. If you're just looking for another Blackwell Falls dark romance trilogy, you're not going to get it. NOTHING BAD EVER HAPPENS HERE is a cozy mystery with everything a cozy isn't supposed to have - swearing and lots of hot spice. If you enjoy cozies but wish they weren't quite so goody-goody, this book is totally for you. It's got all the goofball humor of G-rated rom com but is firmly in the NC-17 bucket for content. I will say that those who are used to the dark romance from Sadie Hunt, there is absolutely nothing dark about this romance so you have to let that label go entirely. If I had to pick the best way to describe what you're in for, it would be a spicy why choose small town romance.
NOTHING BAD EVER HAPPENS HERE opens up with Avery coming from the big city to the tiny town of Blackwell Hollow because a close family friend passed away and left her a house and a bakery in the will. Upon arrival, when searching for the three people who maintain the property, she discovers a dead body just hanging out in the gazebo.
Enter the three gorgeous love interests. Beck is the charismatic baker who runs the bakery that Evelyn left for Avery. He believes that all problems can be solved (or at least soothed) with cookies and milk. Noah is the grounds keeper and gardener. He has a tendency to talk to flowers, grass, and pretty much anything else that grows on the property. Then there is Dane, the grump who manages the house's finances and upkeep. Upon meeting her, Beck and Noah go into full caretaker mode. The chemistry between the MCs is off the charts from their first meeting, though it takes a little bit longer for Dane to warm up to her. He has his reasons, misguided though they may be and eventually figures his stuff out.
Part of the deal with inheriting the property is that the caretakers need to stay on as employees as long as Avery owns the property (or pay them a severance should she decide to sell). She comes to town with the intention to sell the whole shebang and quickly gets sucked in by the small town goofiness (à la the Gilmore Girls) while trying to clear her name of suspicion for the death of the man in the gazebo. In the spirit of small town romance, the town of Blackwell Hollow is filled with oddball side characters and their various hijinx and quirky drama.
Fun Side Note: For the Blackwell Falls fans who've read the Blackwell Butchers series, you get a cameo from the Hawks in this book and they're every bit the dicks they were during the Hunt. Like walking reminders that while the town of Blackwell Hollow is very sweet, the nightmares we all know and love are lurking just a short ride away. 🤣
I loved this book. Between the murder mystery, the romance unfolding, and the light sprinkling of comedy all throughout the book, NOTHING BAD EVER HAPPENS HERE is a fast-paced and fun read. I really hope that this is going to be a trilogy like the other books in Sadie Hunt's Blackwell world. It doesn't leave off on a cliffhanger the way her other books do (the murder mystery is buttoned up and the harem is together and happy) but it's definitely left wide open to continue. This was a weird genre mashup but it works and I cant wait to see more of Blackwell Hollow!
Dear Reader, Welcome to Blackwell Hollow, a quirky little town near Blackwell Falls where the townspeople are mildly insane, the heroine is a little bit silly, and three inked men really just want to help (you have an orgasm). Xo, SH
💗Avery is your classic “girl next door.” She’s a little immature and doesn’t always make the best decisions, which can make it hard at times to see her as a grown adult woman with strong desires—especially when she’s exclaiming things like “fudge” or “sugar” in the heat of the moment. But that’s part of her charm. The three men living on the property she inherits certainly think so—they adore everything about her, quirks included.
🧑🍳🥯Beck (or Beckett) is the baker. He is all about sweets, baking a cake from scratch, or giving you the comfort foods because that is his love language. 🧑🌾Noah is the gardner. He names his plants, talks to them and enjoys everything about this property. His connection to nature is clear in everything he does. 🧾Dane is the house manager and the intense, dominant presence of the group. He masks his past trauma with gruff sarcasm and tends to keep to himself, giving off strong broody, bad-boy energy.
If you’re looking for a cozy read with a little smut, on the light side of dark romance, with quirky characters, small-town chaos, a touch of mystery, and a slow-burn connection, this is a great pick. It doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, but it definitely feels like there’s room for more stories with this unconventional group.
We get a visit from the "Hawks" from the Blackwell Butchers series in this book. I am really looking forward to reading that series! Hawks entrance in the bakery: There was something cavalier about the way they stalked into the room, like they owned the place, and I wasn’t even surprised when the one with blond hair leaned over to plant a wet kiss on a picture of a Victorian woman having tea by the seaside. “Morning love,” he said to the woman in the picture as he passed.
The blond grinned and a shiver ran up my spine. “You know how I like sweets.” I caught a flash of his tongue piercing when he talked. They’d brought a strange chaotic energy into the shop, and I suddenly had the sense that anything could happen. That anything might not be all good.
I received an advance review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
For fans of Sadie Hunt, Nothing Bad Ever Happens Here is a step into something familiar yet refreshingly different. Welcome to Blackwell Hollow—a new setting that trades the darker, cliff‑hanger‑heavy trilogy format of the Blackwell Falls books for a fully wrapped‑up standalone story.
Blackwell Hollow feels like a living, breathing place. It’s a close‑knit community where everyone knows everyone, and every side character has their own quirks—from chaotic dogs to cats being pushed around in prams. The world‑building is strong, helped by frequent references to the map of the area, which really grounds the setting and makes it feel real.
Our heroine, Avery, inherits her late aunt’s estate and quickly finds herself entangled with three very different (and very appealing) caretakers: Beck, Noah, and Dane. Unlike previous Sadie Hunt stories, these men aren’t long‑standing friends—they’re more like colleagues and housemates whose connection deepens as their shared attraction to Avery becomes impossible to ignore. The dynamic feels fresh, and Avery’s character—sweet, sheltered, and hilariously fond of saying “fudge” instead of swearing—makes for a fun contrast when things heat up. Especially when Dane is involved.
The romance and spice are well done, the characters are engaging, and there’s enough going on beyond the relationships to keep the plot moving, including a murder mystery and a building dispute that add tension and intrigue without overwhelming the story.
While I personally prefer Sadie Hunt’s darker, multi‑book mysteries with higher stakes and cliff‑hangers, this was still a really enjoyable first visit to Blackwell Hollow. Everything is neatly resolved, which will be a big plus for readers who prefer a complete story in one book.
All in all, this is a strong start to a new world—one I hope the author doesn’t abandon just yet. (Hearthstones still has questions, and honestly, Lena might deserve a romance of their own.)
If you’re looking for a standalone romance with solid world‑building, mystery elements, and three hot, inked men, this is definitely one not to miss.
Plot: 3.5/5 • Spice: 2.5/5 ➡️➡️➡️ I love Sadie Hunt. This just fell flat to me, and I’m kind of bummed. I’m a RH/WC girl through and through, but this didnt captivate me in any way.
Avery inherits a mansion from her aunt that passed away. They were not close, so it came as a shock to her. Located in a tiny town, Avery makes her way there putting her life in the city on hold. The groundskeepers Dane, Noah and Beck all have their jobs. If Avery is to sell the house her aunts trust pays them out. For now Avery is set on selling.
Her first day, not even a full day, she’s looking for one of the guys to give her the key to the front door. She hasn’t even been inside when she finds a dead man in the gazebo. now all four of them are suspects.
There’s a back and forth in the town. There’s a company that wants to come in and build high rises, golf courses, you name it they want to build it. Making this small town not so small anymore. Most of the town is against it, but there are some who are for.
Avery plays her own detective trying to solve who the murderer is. While uncovering clues and meeting the townies Avery starts hooking up with the three guys over time.
Eventually “detective” avery pays off. She solves the crime. Saved in the nick of time by the three guys and the actual detective. This does end with a HEA, and her deciding she’s not going to sell and stick around for a bit. 🙄
This is a standalone. It may be interconnected with a series, but don’t quote me on that. I felt like something was missing. The townies were all cute. The three guys were good. They each had their own personalities and brought something different to the table, but it was lackluster. I still hold Sadie Hunt near and dear to my heart, but this doesn’t make the top list.
This book was a wild ride! This was unlike my usual @authorsadiehunt read but I loved it too! There was mystery, cookies and garden whispers. I absolutely loved Avery and the guys. Dane was such a hard egg to crack but I love how he’s opening up to Avery. Noah was so funny speaking to all the plants in the garden! And Beck with his baking. 😂😭 I loved this! It was spicy, funny, mysterious and sweet. Thank you for letting me arc read!
I just inherited a bakery, an old house, and three hot inked caretakers.
Oh, and there’s a dead body in the gazebo.
I didn’t plan to come back to Blackwell Hollow, but then I get word that my great Aunt Evelyn has died — and she’s left everything to me.
As a bonafide city girl, there’s only one thing to do: go to Blackwell Hollow and sell everything stat.
Except from the minute I arrive, nothing is as it seems. Between the dead body, the wacky townspeople, and the unhinged gossip, things get complicated fast. And that’s not even counting my three tattooed caretakers.
Beck makes lavender lemon cookies that melt in my mouth. He also does things to my body that melt my panties.
Noah is happiest with his hands in the soil — and his face between my thighs.
Then there’s Dane: broken, angry, as immovable as a mountain. He doesn’t want me there, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t want me.
We’re stuck together, all suspects in the same murder. And I don’t know what’s scarier, the murderer watching me from the shadows — or the three men setting me — and my old life — on fire.
Oh my goodness sweet cupcakes this book is pure gold! Avery, Beck, Noah & Dane & Blackwell Hollow have won a place in my heart I keep for book favs! I want to live in Blackwell Hollow & watch their world go by too!
Sadie Hunt has created another epic universe (alongside our Blackwell Falls) she has taken a quaint country town with all it’s amazing & colourful folk & given them life that takes then on a mystery of major small town proportions! The detail in this book of the locals & the plan of the town is perfect for my visual mind & crazy scenarios they get themselves into is pure mayhem.
So… the boys, the girl… the spice…. The storyline…. All 5 star goodness! Love the unique personality’s of each of the 4 MC’s. Avery is a sweet soul with a fierce drive for doing the right thing & a conscience to match. Beck, Noah & Dane - hmmmm… decisions, decisions - if I had to pick a fav it def would be Dane, the bad boy (or is he really???) or may be the plant communicating Noah with his easy nature (pun intended) or maybe Beck… seriously who doesn’t love a man who can cook??? So I’m torn… 🤷🏼♀️
The build up of these 4 is fast yet slow - I’ve tried to write how what I mean by this but I can’t do it justice so you’ll just have to read for yourself! (Trust me, you will not be disappointed) I don’t know how Sadie does it but all of a sudden I’m at 75% through the book going “Wow” 😜
Again Sadie has ticked all my boxes! ✔️ spice 🌶️ 👌 ✔️ well written ✔️ flowing timeline ✔️ Alt POV ✔️ Great storyline - who doesn’t love small town cute meets mystery meets serious spice??? ✔️ Great characters ✔️ Great spice - 😜
This book was SO much fun to read! We get our spice and why choose all rolled up into a whodunnit mystery!
Quirky towns people, unhinged animals brimming with chaos, three hot tattooed men who know exactly what they want and aren't afraid to take it. Oh! And did I mention there's a mrdrer on the lose?!
I loved the lightness of this book, it flowed really well and had my attention from start to finish. All of the side characters and their hilarious selves really added to the story, ESPECIALLY the animals, and I had some really great belly laughs while reading. 🤣
Avery is so cute with her dislike of swearing, I absolutely loved her little sayings and how she even started getting the guys to use her words instead. Beck is a delicious, bossy specimen of a man who would have me worried I'd end up with diabetes after a day with him and his sweet cravings. Noah is such a sweetheart and I loved that he talks to his plants and takes his gardener postion so seriously, AND he's a team player 😏 Dane is actually a total softie in disguise, but a domineering dirty talker when it truly matters.
I've always been a sucker for a cozy mystery and smut. But the two combined? Sadie gave us a gift with this one.We LOVE dark romance Sadie, but we also really LOVE cozy, lighthearted fun Sadie. This book is absolutely going to live rent free in my head for a long time!
I don't think we're done in Blackwell Hollow friends...stick around and we may just get to see the mystery continue to unfold 🔍🧩
This was a nice break from my normal dark romance. There is a murder to solve, a house and bakery inherited along with three very gorgeous men. The mystery around the murder and the spiciness of the book had me hooked. The small town that gossips and keeps the humor going. I nearly spit my drink out reading this quote!
“Do you need water or something? I can come back to look for Mayor Biscuit. Scratch that. I’m not coming back, I’m staying. I’m emotionally invested now.”
Avery who inherits the house and bakery is so sweet. She won’t even curse.
“Oh Sugar…Oh my gravy…No fudging way.”
When she gets to the house, she finds a dead man in the gazebo and three hot guys.
Beck the baker who runs the bakery and cleans the house.
“Kissing Beck was like sinking into a luscious piece of cake.”
Noah the green thumb gardener who loves to talk to his plants.
“Kissing Noah was like falling back into grass in summer.”
Dane the grumpy finance manager.
“Kissing Dane was like having all the thoughts that held me hostage smashed to bits by a giant hammer.”
When Avery finally lets herself give into her needs and why choose just one very hot and smexy guy.
We get a brief look at the Hawks from Blackwell Falls. Let me tell you I am excited to read more about them. Eyebrow wiggle!! And let’s not forget Mayor Biscuit and Cleopatra. The dog and cat evil spawns who cause chaos. They are totally working together to keep this town on their toes. Back to swooning over the baby girl calling.
“You can say all the dirty words with me, baby girl.
🔹Cozy Mystery 🔹Three HOT/INKED men 🔹Quirky Small town 🔹Why Choose 🔹Spice galore 🔹Forced Proximity
This is Sadie Hunt’s first cozy mystery for dark romance readers… and whew, she understood the assignment 😏🔥
I absolutely loved how quirky and slightly chaotic the town of Blackwell Hollow is, especially compared to Blackwell Falls. It has that “nothing to see here… but everything is suspicious” kind of vibe 👀
The story follows Avery, who inherits a house and a bakery… along with three housemates. And not just any housemates… we’re talking Beck, Noah, and Dane. Three very hot, inked, and completely irresistible men 🥵🖤 And yes… they all want her. And she very much wants them too 😮💨✨
There’s a solid mix of mystery, tension, and plenty of spice to keep things interesting 🌶️📖 But just when you think you’re starting to piece things together… boom. Cliffhanger 😩 Some of the mystery gets unraveled, but there are still so many questions left hanging in the air.
And me? I am absolutely seated and waiting (impatiently) for the next installment because I need answers 👏 NOW 👏
Genre/Type: Mystery - Dark Romance style APK: Kindle ARC Pages: 394 Rating: 5🌟 Spice: 5🌶️ Series or Stand Alone: Blackwell Hollow, book 1 Tropes or themes: why choose; past trauma; mystery to solve; stalking; quirky/weird small town; hairless cat in a stroller; gossip that is never right; murder mystery; duck chase; FMC who doesn’t swear Check Triggers ⚠️Murder; abandonment; ✨
Sadie Hunt does it again, this is the genre mashup that I never knew I needed. I literally devoured this book in one sitting and left no crumbs. 😏
We have our FMC Avery who ended up inheriting a house, a bakery and THREE hot INKED caretakers. She thought she would go to Blackwell Hollow put the house / business on the market and get back to her life in the city. HAHA. Wrong!
She arrives and within the hour finds a dead body in the gazebo and ends up being a suspect along with her 3 caretakers; Noah, Beck and Dane.
The guys all play their part in this book. We have our baker, Beck who runs the bakery. Our groundskeeper Noah, and our housing and financial man Dane.
What Avery and the guys didn’t expect was to feel this instant attraction to the other. They don’t bother trying to fight or deny it. The heat is on! Not only in the sheets, but also in the streets.
Avery can’t let the fact that a body was found in her gazebo go. So while she is busy playing detective she has someone stalking her in the shadows. …. The townspeople love to gossip, and half of the info is the most outrageous things you could hear. Who to trust? Who is guilty?
I can’t wait to see what Sadie brings out next. This was an easy 5 star read for me! I’m obsessed with the main characters, the quirky townspeople, the chaotic pets, and the cozy mystery vibes. Also, the cameo of the Hawks was EVERYTHING!!! 🙌🏼
4.5⭐️ Super cute and fun read! Great banter, funny moments, a mystery needing solving and delicious spice. Avery is very adverse to swearing to the point what she says is pretty funny. …
Avery wants to sell the house and business her late aunt left her to go back to the city and her job. But a murd€r on her property is keeping her in the small town for longer than she expected…. And possibly even the feelings she starting to get for 3 caretakers.
The 3 men, Beck, Noah and Dane, who lived and worked for Avery’s late aunt (still do) are a lot younger than she imagined…… and insanely attractive. And although they worked and lived together for the last few years they were not really friends.. But they all seem to want Avery…. Even if they have to share. Two of them are sweethearts and the other is not what he seems.
Having found the body on her first day in town, she wants to look into the murd€r on her own even if the Sheriff asks her not to….even if… she feels someone watching her..
No cheating, no OWD, they are together at the end of this book, this mystery was solved but there is still a lot going on in this quirky, sleeping town….so ends with a HFN I’m assuming there’ll be more to this series..
* Murd€er Mystery * Small Town * Forced Proximity * Punny Aprons * Quirky Unh!nged Townspeople
Imagine a small town with Gilmore Girls vibes. Next, add in our FMC, Avery, who is an adult version of Nancy Drew. Then, add in three hot men who have not-so-secret crushes on Avery and you get this rom com, darkish romance novel you won’t be able to put down. Avery is a big city girl who comes to the Hollow after her grandmother passes away. She inherits a beautiful home and bakery. She also inherits three men who take care of the home, business, and anything else she might need. They know how to get the job(s) done. Her first day in the Hollow is also met with a dead body on her property. Now, in addition to selling the home and bakery, she feels obligated to assist in the murder mystery. This novel caused me to experience all the emotions. There is small town humor that will have you laughing out loud. Endearing thoughts evoked for her dear departed grandmother. I was anxious during some moments in her search for the killer. I’m sure I was also blushing quite a bit while reading spicy times with our MMCs. I recommend this novel for mature audiences only due to sexual content and minor violence. I would rate this novel as 5 out of 5 for both the story and the spice. I received this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
WOW, this book was great! I flew through this book in just hours. I got mad, I laughed, and I loved getting to know everyone in town.
The descriptions given of this town made me want to go there. You could just feel the peacefulness of the place and the genuine kindness of the people who lived there. You would never know that something bad just happened.
I loved the small-town mystery mixed with sharp edge of the MMCs. They each had their own thing but were able to come together when needed. I enjoyed the twist and turns of the mystery, even with some still unanswered questions.
Sadie always has a way to bring her characters to life, and this book was no different. She gave us our amazing FMC, Avery, with all her prime and properness along with a darker sinful side. Then there are our three MMCs, Dane the quiet loner type, Noah the outdoorsman, and Beck our pastry cook and bakery main man. Loved getting to know each of them and loved that she didn't have to choose between them.
If you're looking for something steamy with a twist of mystery you have found your book!! I hope that you get to enjoy this one as much as I did.
I'll be the first to say that there hasn't yet been a Sadie Hunt book I haven't loved, and this just continues that trend! NBEHH is less dark and angsty than the other Blackwell-verse books we've come to know and love, but it IS still a murder-mystery - but more akin to an X-rated Hallmark movie.
If you've read Sadie's Blackwell Butchers trilogy, you've seen a snippet of Blackwell Hollow - the quaint Hallmark-esque town nearby that seems too perfect to be real. A town where even our FMC feels like "nothing bad could happen here" - yet she still manages to stumble across an unalived body in her first hour in town. In the backyard of the house she just inherited. The house that comes fully staffed with a gardener, baker, and house manager. That she has to live with. Oh, and they're all super-hot. And hot for her. ;)
I devoured this book in less than 24 hours, and while the mystery of the unalived person in the backyard may have been solved by the end, there is still so much to explore in Blackwell Hollow - so I sincerely hope Sadie gives us more ASAP! Especially more Beck, please - any man who wants to make me cookies (and eat them ;) is perfection for me!
This is a sweet, spicy, cozy mystery. Avery is the cute carefree outsider who has returned to Blackwell Hollow following her aunt’s death. Her return to Blackwell brought so much more than she expected. A dead body on her aunt’s property now hers is her first welcome gift but things get more interesting when she meets the three hunky tattooed men living in her house. What could go wrong or maybe right. A quiet quant town, quirky and nosy neighbors and very little remains a secret but Avery jump right in to play detective while navigating what it means to be attracted to and yearning for three hunky men, all at the same time. They are all so different but they crave her just as much. Dane is the broody and closed off but there’s so much more to him beneath the surface. Beck is the hot sexy baker and Noah is gardener who has a nurturing personality. Can Avery handle the heat and is Blackwell Hollow ready for the murder mystery that’s unfolding? After all, Nothing Bad Ever Happens in Blackwell Hollow. This book is absolutely delightful in the best ways. Be ready to be totally immersed and sucked deep into Blackwell Hollow.
This book was highly anticipated and it did not disappoint!
I was invested right from the start.
Each character was clearly written, the plot kept you guessing and kept you invested.
One of my favorite types of books to read is a mystery. I love puzzles and I love how the cover reveal tied into the puzzle aspect of this book. I kept my list of suspects and I didn't add the actual one until too late. It's like I didn't even think of them because I just didn't.
I loved how sassy Avery is and how each of the guys is different but instantly drawn in by her and she to them. Beck is the cinnamon roll - pun intended! Noah is the steady one. Dane is the one in control with a secret soft heart.
Avery had a tough life and it shows in how she interacts with certain people. She is torn in her choices but I think she will make the right choice.
I loved the hint of the hunt at the bakery.
I hope there will be more of Avery and her guys, it feels like their journey isn't over. There is still a mystery to solve and some choices to be made.
This book was such a change from what Sadie normally writes, and I am totally here for it. I loved the cozy murder mystery vibes with Sadie's super spicy twist. Blackwell Hollow has a very Gilmore Girls vibe complete with quirky towns folk who bring such charm and chaos to the story.
When Avery inherits a house and business from her aunt, she knows that there will be 3 care takers sharing the house with her, but she expected 3 elderly men, not super-hot Noah, Beck and Dane. She arrived expecting to sell everything quickly and get back to her life. From the moment she arrives in it is one surprise after another, 3 hot men who all want her, a beautiful small town, great people she instantly connects with.... oh and the dead body in the gazebo. Now Avery is determined to figure out who killed the town council member on her property and the mystery behind it.
I loved this new twist to Sadie's writing. I loved all of the characters and cannot wait to find out more about what is hiding under the surface of Blackwell Hollow.
Avery has found herself in Blackwell Hollow. A place she barely remembers. She has one goal, get in and get out. Unfortunately things don't go as planned. Now she is stuck. The longer she's there, the less she wants to leave. Between the quirky citizens, the mystery, and the three hot guys Avery isn't sure which way to turn. Should she stay or should she flee? This was a wonderful story. Sadie outdid herself with this one. I laughed so much. The characters are well written, even the minor characters have a big personality. The mystery kept me guessing right until the end. This book has everything you could want in a cozy mystery, with added spice, and boy was there spice. I couldn't put it down. It has everything we've come to expect from a Sadie Hunt book and more.
Nothing Bad Ever Happens Here was kept close to the chest fir quite awhile, Sadie had us all guessing what this would be since it's never been done and I ATE IT UP!! Cozy mystery mashup with dark romance/why choose?!?! It worked!! I couldn't put it down! Noah, Beck, and Dane had all the hotness of Sadie's typical dark romance but they aren't as close as her other characters. But don't get it twisted! For Avery they are still willing to share 😏. Avery is a woman who can't stand to say bad words bc "she hates how it feels in her mouth" but she can't let the body in the gazebo lay in peace, she HAS to figure out who did it before she can sell the house and bakery she was left. But can she do it when the time comes? Guess we have to wait for book 2 to solve that mystery and I can't wait to see how this plays out!!
As someone who has read everything set in the Blackwellverse, I went into Nothing Bad Ever Happens Here expecting something dark, intense, and dramatic—hallmarks of Sadie Hunt’s previous works. While there were still traces of mystery, suspense, and danger, this story offered a lighter, almost “fluffier” tone compared to her earlier titles. By the end, I realized that was entirely intentional, and it worked beautifully for this new series. I quickly fell for the dynamic between Avery and the three men she finds herself drawn to—Noah, Beck, and Dane—and Avery herself was an engaging and likable character. The world of Blackwell Hollow feels rich with untapped potential, and it’s clear we’ve only just begun to explore it. I truly hope this new series takes off so we can see where these characters and their relationships go next.
Dane,Beck, and Noah Holy hell move over butchers there is a new trio in town and man do they bring the heat!
While Dane seems emotionality unavailable he is 100% invested in Avery.
Beck is the sweetest and bonus points he can bake treats!!
Noah is in touch with his nature side and has a green thumb. Add all three together and you get a good kind of trouble Avery unbeknownst to her upon arriving into town stumbled into trouble and while navigating the murder and her "awaking" to what she truly wants she handles its like the boss she is.
This book has mystery and spice and i am just here for the ride. I could not put this book down . Sadie always knows how to pull you in and keep you on your toes and this book is no different i seriously hope there will be a book 2 because i seriously need more from Avery and her guys!!!
