When Frederick Yorke arrives in the Cornish fishing village of Trelowen, he knows exactly what he a seat in Parliament and the recognition that has always eluded him.
Unfortunately, that ambition runs straight through Lady Caroline Radcliffe—a young and intelligent widow who controls the votes he needs and has no patience for charming men with hidden agendas.
Caroline has already pledged her support elsewhere, to a trusted friend who also aspires to her hand. But no amount of frankness seems to rid her of Frederick. As political maneuvering gives way to sharp-witted debate, stolen moments, and an attraction neither of them intended, their carefully laid plans begin to unravel, forcing them to redefine victory—and decide what they are willing to sacrifice to achieve it.
A closed-door Regency romance filled with wit, warmth, and swoon.
This is the fourth book in the series! This time we get Frederick’s story. The story takes place in Cornwall, which is really fun. This story is more political in storyline because Frederick is trying to fill a seat in parliament. So he campaigns. Caroline is a widow who holds 5 votes for the seat Frederick wants to win. But she wants to give her votes to her friend who is also campaigning and holds votes for the seat. Frederick and Caroline don’t get along the best at first, mostly because of Caroline’s not liking him. So he has to win her over. I really loved this story! I loved watching Caroline and Frederick’s relationship develop. I particularly loved how Frederick got involved in the community and really got to know them and help them. Overall, a great story and I definitely recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
These have been some of the best regency romances I've read.
The development of Frederick and Caroline's relationship is beautifully written. I loved Frederick's self-discovery as he overcomes one obstacle after another to achieve his political ambitions. The question of self-interest versus public virtue added complexity to their evolving relationship.
Of course, fantastic banter, humorous incidents, and sweet and swoony moments fill the pages of the story.
The characters and the story were all very believable and realistic. It was intriguing watching the main characters' regard for each other unfold. It was fun to have a glimpse of the other brothers at the end.
Frederick Yorke, the fourth son, the one no one expects anything from. He’s determined to show everyone he’s capable and independent and will succeed. But there’s a roadblock.
Caroline Radcliffe. She holds his future in her hands. He needs her votes for a seat in Parliament.
I admired Frederick for his resolve in wanting to accomplish his dream without the sway or help from his family, especially his brother the Duke. With everything stacked against him, he rose to the challenge, really getting involved with the townspeople and developing a heart for them.
Caroline sees this too and battles with her decision and her heart. I loved her relationship with Frederick. The immediate connection, the hesitation, the teasing, the tension, the realization.
“For so long, she had feared surrendering her future—her power—to another man, but in Frederick’s arms, with her heart given over to him, she knew she was not surrendering that power at all; she was using it. Choosing him. Choosing herself. Choosing the life she wanted at last.”
A sweeping romance amidst the beauty of Cornwall where two hearts find the courage to take a chance on each other, choosing to let go and finding a greater dream in the end.
Thank you to Martha Keyes for the copy. All opinions are my own.
Brilliantly executed, as always. The prose is refreshingly free of modernisms, too, which allowed me to fall more fully into the story. And the romance was absolutely top notch. Highly recommend.
This is the 4th, and I believe final book, in the Chronicles of Misadventures series. It is a kisses only Regency era romance. This is a standalone story and is probably the one most easily read on its own without having read the others first. Although, the others do give us some of Frederick's drive and motivation that play out in this book.
It has a different feel than the others in this series mostly because it takes place in Cornwall. That gives it a flavor all its own. The townspeople become part of the story and endear themselves to the reader as they do Frederick. Caroline on the other hand...she doesn't find Frederick endearing. And that is the fun of this book!
I've loved the whole series, but this one just might be my favorite. (We won't tell the other books that though.) I rarely highlight while reading, but I did save several of my favorite quotes and humorous interactions from this one.
I was given the opportunity to read an advanced digital copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This was a great ending to a phenomenal series! I really enjoyed seeing Frederick get his happily ever after and watching him grow into a better person as he did it. He and Caroline had wonderful chemistry, and I loved the teasing and witty remarks they exchanged. I highly recommend this book and this series!
Creative story, rich plot, and superb characters! It’s what I love about Martha Keyes’ books. I enjoyed every page. I could feel Oswald’s annoyance (was that steam coming out his ears a few times—So great!) Caroline’s indecision is palpable — her loyalty admirable. And Frederick is wonderfully kind and resilient. He keeps his hopes up despite one disappointment after another. Politics, prevaricating, and a perfectly sweet romance! Highly recommend!
Rival to Resist is a clean rivals to lovers romance full of banter and character growth that will catch your attention from the very beginning!
Frederick is such a delightful character! As the fourth son, he knew he would need to make his own way in the world and was set on doing that without the assistance of his family. With his sights set on a seat in Parliament, he makes his way to a small fishing town in order to run for MP. Upon arriving, he runs into Lady Caroline Radcliffe who ,unbeknownst to him, holds the power over who wins the election and who has already promised her votes to another.
Caroline is also an absolute delight! She is strong and intelligent and will not allow others to dictate her life or her choices. When she realizes the handsome young man she met earlier is town is now running for MP against her candidate, the two enter into a rivalry that will push the both of them to grow and come to know each other better than their first, or second, impressions.
As Frederick works to get to know and understand the people of the town better, he forms friendships and relationships and learns more about working class village life than he ever expected.
It was so fun to watch Frederick and Caroline banter and grow and learn as they rivaled for the parliamentary seat.
Frederick’s strength and care for others allowed him to understand the people better and grow to care for the town as a proper representative should.
Caroline’s fire and loyalty to her village was admirable and I was so glad to watch her grow to understand and trust that Frederick also truly cared for the people of the town.
This was a lovely book four to a series that caught my attention from the first chapter of book one and I am so glad I got to read the entire series!
Absolutely check this book, and the rest of the series, out if you love regency romance, banter, small-town living, loyal (and hilarious) family members, and lots of heart!
Thank you so much to Martha Keyes for including me on her ARC team! I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Rival to Resist by Martha Keyes is Book 4 in the Chronicles of Misadventures series, and even though I haven’t read the earlier books yet, I jumped at the chance to read this ARC. All opinions are my own—and this one was such a fun surprise.
If you love Bridgerton vibes without the spice, this book is absolutely for you. It starts with instant attraction, eases into a touch of rivals-to-more, and then slowly grows into a romance that feels earned and layered rather than rushed.
Frederick arrives in Cornwall with a lot of growing to do, and I really enjoyed watching that transformation unfold. As the fourth son, he’s carrying his own insecurities and ambitions, while Caroline—strong, capable, and a widow with her own authority—has very clear opinions and boundaries. Their dynamic was engaging from the start.
The setting was especially interesting to me. It’s a different time, before major social reforms, and seeing how society functioned back then added an educational layer I didn’t expect. I’ll admit it took me a bit to adjust to the villagers’ accents, but honestly, that just made the experience more immersive (and entertaining as I tried them out in my head).
The story is full of tension, personal growth, and moments where characters are forced to step outside their comfort zones. I loved seeing how relationships with the town slowly developed and how belonging became such an important theme. There’s also a clear antagonist whose presence adds frustration in the way a good villain should.
What really stood out to me was the character growth—especially watching ambition give way to responsibility and heart. The emotional beats hit hard, and I found myself genuinely invested in seeing these characters become better versions of themselves.
This was a satisfying, heartfelt read with strong character arcs, historical charm, and a romance that unfolds beautifully. I’m definitely planning to go back and read the earlier books in the series.
Highly recommend for fans of clean historical romance and character-driven love stories.
What a wonderful way to finish out this series, A Chronicle of Misadventures. This is book 4 and it focuses on the youngest brother Frederick Yorke. Since he is a younger brother, he has to find his own way in the world and he has determined to do it without the help of his oldest brother the duke. For years he has been preparing to become a member of Parliament. He has carefully determined that the village of Trelowen in Corwall has a member of Parliament who is on his deathbed. He makes a trip there to discuss with the leading family in the area his desire to represent the small village. With misinformation and a suggestion for a gift by the local innkeeper, he bungles his first impression with Lady Caroline Radcliffe—a young and intelligent widow who controls the votes. As he decides to leave the area humiliated, the local innkeeper Mrs. Tonkin, gets him to agree to stay around and try to fight for the open seat.
Lady Caroline Radcliffe had promised her husband before his death that she would protect the village by supporting his friend and now her trusted friend Oswald to take the seat when it became open. She is taken aback by Frederick Yorke who she feels just wants the seat for the prestige and that he will not be concerned about the cares of the villagers in Trelowen. Even though he is aware that her votes are already promised to Oswald, Frederick still insists on remaining in the village. She cannot figure him out- he helps carry heavy water buckets for a young war widow. He helps the local fishermen with their catch and he even wrassals with them at a part he holds for the villagers to get to know him. As she gets to know more about him and his desires she may begin to change her mind about the best man to represent their village. As Frederick and Caroline debate their beliefs, her input will help him to become a better man.
I loved how this story wrapped up with all of the family members from previous books showing up in the epilogue.
I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.
Rival to Resist (A Chronicle of Misadventures Book 4) by: Martha Keyes @authormarthakeyes
••I give 5 stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
~He came for her votes. He stayed for her heart...
-Rival to Resist, is such a delightful closed-door Regency romance blended wonderfully with wit, warmth, and swoon. It easily drew me into its pages and has stayed with me since. So good! This is dear romance that slowly and precisely came about at a consistent smooth and thoughtful pace. The sweet connection between characters felt natural, heartfelt, and sincere. I thoroughly enjoyed the fantastic rivals-to-lovers dynamics, the fun, witty banter, and the dear way guarded hearts slowly softened, and melted as the story progressed. Most of all though, I loved that there was such genuine, quiet strength with growth weaved within each own character’s own stories. Their authentic perspectives of reflection, choices, bravery, and moments of surrendering for something more felt so tender and heartwarming. This lovely story emphasizes the importance how love often and surely grows and blossoms best when we release our need for control and allow something deeper to take shape with trust and courage. There’s no doubt that when love is the prize, everything makes way to sweet victory. My friends, this dear story is worth the heartwarming adventure!📚💯❤️
“For so long, she had feared surrendering her future-her power—to another man, but in Frederick’s arms, with her heart given over to him, she knew she was not surrendering that power at all; she was using it. Choosing him. Choosing herself. Choosing the life she wanted at last.”
•Content: death of side characters mentioned; off page, some political maneuvering, kisses only.
-I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
“He fiddle with the ring more. “That I must make my own way in this world. I have no leagacy lo leave but the one I create.”
Unsurprisingly I loved it! I love Martha’s books! I was on the readership cruise this past week and never had time to read because we were having way to much fun talking late into the night, but I may have stayed up until the wee hours of the morning a couple of times just desperate for a little more of this story! 😅😴
Although this is part of a series it can totally be read and throughly enjoyed all on its own. I have enjoyed this whole series and have been anxiously awaiting Freddie’s story. It gives major Poldark vibes but minus all the stuff that makes you want to turn Ross into the authorities for smuggling 😉IYKYK
Loved the Cornish accents I could totally hear it in Jud and Prudie’s voices as I was reading and it would be amazing in audio!
Frederick Yorke has a goal to make something of himself all on his own, not using his brother’s connections as a Duke and he goes to Cornwall in an attempt to run for a seat in parliament. While there he meets Caroline and the sparks and tension between these two burns hot from the beginning.
Loved all Frederick’s teasing and also his willingness to step up and help but Caroline isn’t sure if his motivations are pure or if he is just trying to ingratiate himself with the people in hopes of winning the election.
Loved Caroline’s love for the people in her town, she truly tried to do what was best for them and helped Frederick see the importance of it as well.
Loved Mrs Tonkin and Jory! And I could really go for some of her fairings right now!
Loved all the things on all the beaches and everything the fishermen put Frederick through! I laughed, I swooned and I got all riled up and ready to give Oswald a piece of my mind! All the feels with this one! I would definitely recommend it!
Martha Keyes truly has outdone herself with this series! I absolutely adore each and every Yorke brother and their love story! Frederick and Caroline’s book is a must for your reading list!
Frederick is the youngest son and as such his opportunities are limited. His driving goal has been to acquire a seat in parliament and he takes full advantage of traveling to pursue one that opens up in Cornwall. However, the task of winning this seat will not be as easy as he anticipates… When he realizes a young window holds 5 votes toward the election, 5 votes that are promised to another candidate, he makes it his goal to change her mind. What he doesn’t expect is to change his whole way of thinking when it comes to politics and love. Can he strike a balance- winning the favor of Trelowen, along with securing the affection of a woman he has grown to admire?
Fredrick is absolutely CHARMING! I love his personality and the way he can go with the flow and bounce back from things. He really is a great sport about everything that comes at him in this book. Caroline is such a great match for him! Equally as driven, intelligent, and passionate about the causes and people of Trelowen. They bring out the best in each other and I loved seeing their relationship progress. This book is so much fun and the romance is lovely! You will go away happy and completely satisfied.
I received an advanced copy of this book from the author. I was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Ah, this book was extraordinary in every way!!! It just felt so PERFECT.
An adorable meet-cute is soon soured by the realization that the very man Lady Caroline Radcliffe was captivated by is the same one who has the audacity to run for MP (member of parliament) when he knows nothing about her precious village.
Frederick Yorke hasn’t even had a chance to show what he’s capable of when Caroline runs him off. Emboldened instead of defeated at her rejection, Frederick makes a strategy of his own to aid his campaign. The odds aren’t in his favor…and neither is Lady Caroline. He is the rival, afterall.
AAAHHH! I love Caroline and Frederick. The tension between them is DELICIOUS. The internal and external conflict in this story are incredible. The shift both of them experience as they realize what’s truly dear to their hearts is SO romantic and tender. They become each other’s champions and my heart just can’t handle how beautiful it is. I always love watching a strong fmc fall in love. And don’t even get me STARTED on their kisses! 😱 🫠 🔥
Do not hesitate to pick this one up, my friends. I absolutely adore this entire series, and Martha finished it off with a banger! 10/10 recommend, no notes!
✨ Gems ✨ Meet-cute turned ugly 😂 Strong, widow FMC The gifts 😂 The sack race 👏🏻 Amazing campaign plot Raking 🔥 😂 Delicious scheming 😏 THEIR FIRST KISS 🥵 🫠 🔥 Dual POV 💕 The tack room 🔥 🫠 🫠 Putting Oswald in his place 👏🏻 His confession 🥹 🫠 HER confession 😭 Taking care of his injury The PERFECT ENDING 😭 💗
Frederick's story is here! The youngest member of the Yorke Family has a romance as sweet and sparkling as his siblings. The dynamic, humor, and chemistry between Frederick and Caroline are fantastic! I love how the protagonists sought personal fulfillment on their own merits, achieved their dreams, and helped the inhabitants of this small town. The beautiful descriptions of Cornwall transported me there. The people of Trelowen are a great addition, with their humor and character. This story held my attention from the beginning, and I had a great time reading it. This is a perfect ending to the series, and it made me very happy to see the whole family together. I highly recommend this book!
Frederick Yorke goes to Trelowen, a fishing village in Cornwall, to achieve the goal he has had for years: to win a seat in Parliament. But what he thought would be an easy victory becomes complicated when he encounters his biggest obstacle, Lady Caroline Radcliffe, who has the power to crush his dream. Caroline wields great power in Trelowen, but her only interest is helping people. Therefore, she already has plans for the political future with her candidate and friend. But when a privileged gentleman from London arrives with his charisma and confidence, the rivalry begins. Politics, friendship, attraction, and an unexpected connection make Frederick and Caroline wonder if perhaps their ambitions also include the desires of their hearts.
You will find: 🐟 Rivals to lovers 🐟 Small town 🐟 Inevitable attraction 🐟 Wit and laughter 🐟 Finding your own path 🐟 Found Family 🐟 Cornwall charm
~ She had one thing on her mind and one thing only: to win. To see Mr. Yorke, so infuriatingly confident, finally lose. ~
This is the fourth book in the A Chronicle of Misadventures series. It can be read as a standalone, but I recommend the others as well.
Thanks to the author for the copy. All opinions are my own.

These two! Am I right? Like yes they're rivals, but that spark between them? Oh yeah, that wasn't just disdain on Caroline's part. There was some definite chemistry there. I can certainly understand Caroline's hesitancy to trust Frederick. While he isn't there with evil intents, he was still trying to use Trelowen to get what he wanted, a seat in Parliament. It was nice to see that as he worked to get Caroline on his side, he was also really learning about and helping the village.
Oswald was such a sleeze ball. As time progressed, I definitely started to trust him less and less. I was just begging Caroline to wise up and start trusting Frederick, which you could see her doing. As the story continues, there were some twists and turns where I did feel bad for Frederick as he was trying to fulfill a long time goal of being part of Parliament. I did commend him for wanting to make it on his own without turning to his brother's wealth and power to make it happen. When it all came together at the end, I was super excited and just all mushy inside.
I have really enjoyed watching each of the Yorke brothers find their love match, through all the ups and downs. It has been a great series.
“Every time I close my eyes, your face is there waiting,” he whispered. “I cannot sleep without dreaming of you.”
Can I just say how much I love Martha Keyes’s Regency romances? I’ve been hooked on her “A Chronicle of Misadventures” series and eagerly anticipating the final book in the series, Rival to Resist. This book was so much fun to read and did not disappoint.
First, I love how original everything felt. Frederick is the fourth son and trying diligently to make his own way in the world, carving out his own place with a dream of serving as an MP in Parliament. When the chance for an elected position opens, he finds himself in a battle not only for the election, but also for true love. He was happy, kind, and good; the kind of hero you dream of.
Caroline was such a great heroine. I really had fun watching her fall for Frederick and enjoyed the dilemmas she faced and watching her grow and trust and find real love. Their banter was delicious and that ending was so good!
Read this for: *Dual POV *Unique story-line *Banter and witty dialogue *Great character chemistry *Fun Regency romance *Cornwall setting
I loved this book and can’t wait to read it again already. I definitely recommend it and the whole series!
This is the fourth and final book in the A Chronicle of Misadventures series. While each is a stand alone, they are about a family so they are best read in order. This is Fredrick's story. I love the growth that takes place in Fredrick throughout the book. He comes to Trelowen as an easy way to become a member of parliment, what he found was anything but easy. I love the relationships he forges along the way with Mrs. Tonkin, Ruan and the rest of the fishermen, Eliza and Caroline. He becomes more than his selfish desires as he works along side the villagers and comes to know their stories. Caroline (Lady Radcliffe) is the one Fredrick needs to have on his side because she owns half of the votes to get him to Parliment. While she finds Fredrick amusing, she also is very loyal to her deceased husbands wishes and his best friend, Oswald, who is also running for election to Parliment. She also does a lot of growing throughout the book. The chemistry between the two is fantastic from the start. The teasing and banter is next level. This is the perfect way to end the series. I definitely recommend this book and series.
This is the final book in the series, but you can definitely read this without having read the others. Frederick (4th son) is trying to get elected to be a member in parliament in a place he figures can be an easy win. His first surprise is when he takes a gift to who holds the votes. It's not at all who he expects.
As he gets to know Lady Radcliffe he soon wants to impress her to get her votes. As time goes on he tries different things and his heart begins to soften and change, not only to her, but to the people in town. I love that he got to know the people and did things with them. As he tries to get elected it seems like so many times he may give up. I couldn't help but cheer for him and hope he would do things because it was best, not just so he could win.
Caroline did not trust him for a while, despite what she felt. She has to earn his trust while learning to stand up for herself. I knew they would get their HEA, but the way it came about ended up better than I anticipated.
Martha Keyes is always an author I know I'll like. This book did not disappoint. Worth the read.
I'm so sad to see this series come to an end, but I loved finally getting Fredrick's story! It absolutely didn't disappoint, and I was enthralled to the very last page.
After the events of the last book seemingly wrapped up the main plot of the series, I was very intrigued as to how the story of this book would look. But we had a big loose end in the form of Fredrick and his political ambitions. The Cornwall setting was a cozy and fun change for this last story, and I loved getting to know the friendly yet slow-to-trust residents. Watching Fredrick prove himself to them was delightful and helped me to appreciate his character all the more for it. Best of all was watching him win over his "rival", Caroline. From the disastrous first introduction, we knew these two were going to be a challenge to bring together, but so much fun to watch along the way. Their banter was top notch and I loved watching them slowly break down each others' walls. Add in a couple twists and cameos from previous characters and you have yourself a stellar series closer!
This is a stand alone story, but will be made much more satisfactory if you read the others in the series first.
"Have you ever wished for something only to find it eclipsed even your wildest imaginings? I have tasted bliss and now must live with the crippling fear that I shall lose it as quickly as I found it."
The author's love of Cornwall shines through in this delightfully original regency romance.
Caroline and Frederick could not have begun further apart from each other. He is looking for a seat in Parliament and needs her votes to secure it. She has promised those votes to another and is as far removed from supporting Frederick as possible since she considers him an outsider.
Full of banter, humor, and character growth, this rivals to more romance truly shines in the small moments where hearts are exposed and trust is built. The slow burn romance between Frederick and Caroline feels organic and truly earned.
"It is not your votes I have come to covet most, Lady Radcliffe. It is your respect. Your admiration. Your trust. It is you."
This book (and really the whole series) is a must read for fans of well written regency romance with plenty of tension and swoon and none of the spice.
✨“Have you ever wished for something only to find it eclipsed even your wildest imaginings?”
He put a hand to her cheek and stared into her eyes. “I have tasted bliss and now must live with the crippling fear that I shall lose it as quickly as I found it.”✨
Another delightful historical romance by @authormarthakeyes! Absolutely loved it!
If you haven't read her Chronicles of Misadventure series, you are missing out!
Rival to Resist is the fourth installment of this series. This story follows Mr. Fredrick Yorke as he seeks a seat in Parliament. He then finds a town in Cornwall where a seat has recently vacated. Fredrick must learn more about Cornwall as well as convince the townspeople the benefit of his candidacy. Fredrick quickly discovers this won't be easy especially when the beautiful, charming and witty Lady Radcliffe stands in his way.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Martha had me at the meet cute! The pining, the dialogue, the chemistry, and the rivalry was all well done. I loved the humility aspect as well. Oh Fredrick how I adore thee!! 😍🫠
This book released yesterday. I highly recommend this entire series. I think my heart is with Fredrick though 😘
Thank you Martha for my eARC! I can't wait to see what you come up with next!
Rival to Resist by Martha Keyes is one of those stories that gently draws you in and stays with you long after you’ve turned the final page.
The romance between Caroline and Frederick unfolds at a thoughtful pace, blending heartfelt faith, subtle tension, and a slow-burn connection that feels natural and sincere. I especially enjoyed the rivals-to-lovers dynamic, the fun and light banter, and the way guarded hearts slowly soften as the story progresses.
What stood out most to me was the quiet growth woven into both characters’ journeys—their reflections, choices, and moments of surrender felt tender and authentic. It’s a gentle reminder that love often grows best when we release our need for control and allow something deeper to take shape.
Poised, heartfelt, and quietly irresistible, Rival to Resist is a clean, sweet, slow burn Regency romance that left me with a soft smile and a full heart.
Thank you to Martha Keyes for providing me with an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
oh Frederick... To be honest, Frederick was my least favourite brother, I just find him too ambitious - not that it was a bad thing - but his story was not something I was looking forward to. That, or maybe it was the fact that his book is the last book in the series and i just am not ready to let go of the Yorke family's world.
Anyway, reading Frederick's story really made me get to know him way past his political ambitions. I met a brother who was really just trying to pave his way through society, out of the shadows of his brothers, and leave a good legacy behind.
And Caroline, I don't think Martha Keyes could have written a better love interest for Frederick. They just fit really well together.
What more can I say ? Frederick and Caroline's story became my second favourite of the series, and I am just sad that this is the last book in the series. Can Martha Keyes please add more Yorke siblings ?? ahaha or maybe it's about time Aunt Eugenia got her happy ending !
Loved this instant attraction, then rivals to more book. While sparks flew when Caroline first met Frederick, they were quickly smothered after understanding his reason for being her small Cornish village. Frederick finally has a chance to fulfill his dream of becoming a self-made man by gaining a seat in Parliament. The only thing standing in his way, obtaining Lady Caroline's votes. As they continue to cross paths (accidentally and not-so accidentally) the sparks not only return, but are fanned until a strong fire grows. Martha, as always, delivers characters you adore and a love story you want to read and discover where it goes. She creates these rich narratives that draw you in and make it difficult to put the book down. I highly recommend this one! While it is part of a series about the Yorke brothers, it can be read as a stand alone. Many thanks to the author for a copy of her book, which I begged her for. As always, all opinions are my own.
From a muddy meet-cute to the sweetest ending this book was absolutely beautiful. So many times I found myself grinning at Fredrick and Caroline’s banter and yet there was so much heart to this story.
Unlike the other books in the series this one takes place in Cornwall as Frederick goes there in anticipation of winning the Trelowen seat in parliament. He quickly learns that just showing up will not be enough and he must learn to love and earn the respect of the people there if he’s to be successful. He learns a lot about himself as well as earning the love and respect of the one woman he’s come to care about more than the election.
This is book 4 in “A Chronicle of Misadventures” series. This can absolutely be read as a standalone (but I do recommend reading the other books as they’re fabulous and help you have a fuller appreciation for Fredrick’s motivations)
I was given an advance review copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
