Catalogue of Endings

Endings come in every flavour. They can be quiet or explosive, graceful or messy, liberating or devastating. Some haunt you. Some bring relief you didn't know you needed. Every ending has its own world, its own weight, its own way of closing the door.

Catalogue of Endings is a collection of 148 imaginative endings. Pulling from art, film, pop culture, personal memory, and philosophy, these fragments invite you to see what an ending can look like. Not a new beginning disguised as closure—but the end itself.

Paired with suggestive imagery and supported by four reflective essays, this book is for anyone who has ever struggled to walk away, let go, or simply say: this is done.

Imagine an end like a good song. It is a song that touches you, that takes you through a full spectrum of emotions. Like Hirayama’s face in the final minutes of Perfect Days, when he listens to Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” as he drives— sun on his face, emotions rippling through his features. His face becomes a landscape, revealing all the shades of feeling unfolding inside. How many feelings can an ending hold? So many. As Nick Cave says, “This is one of the things live music allows us to do—to hurt and heal concurrently.” So do endings.

Imagine an end as a moment of gratefulness. “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”
