ARC Review: Crossbones by C.C. Warrens

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of Crossbones, and wow—this book absolutely blew me away. If you’re already a fan of the Holly series, prepare yourself, because this might be the most intense and emotionally gripping installment yet.

From the very first chapter, I was hooked. What starts as a seemingly straightforward case quickly spirals into something much darker, pulling Holly and her people into a web of secrets, danger, and deeply personal stakes. The pacing is relentless in the best way—every chapter left me saying “just one more,” and suddenly it was 2 a.m. I devoured it in a night.

One of my favorite things about C.C. Warrens’ writing is how perfectly she balances suspense with heart, and Crossbones delivers on both. The tension is high, the twists are genuinely surprising, and yet the relationships are what truly shine. Holly continues to be such a compelling, relatable character—strong, determined, and all while carrying her scars in a way that feels so real. Watching her navigate both the case and her personal connections added so much emotional depth.

This story also leans heavily into themes of family, secrets, and how far someone will go to protect the people they love. The stakes feel higher than ever, especially as buried truths begin to surface and threaten everything. It’s the kind of book that keeps your heart racing while also hitting you emotionally in ways you don’t expect.

And can we talk about the writing style? It’s everything I love—fast-paced like Criminal Minds or SVU, but with humor, warmth, and character-driven moments that make you care deeply about everyone involved. That combination is exactly what keeps me coming back to this series again and again.

Overall, Crossbones is a must-read. It’s suspenseful, emotional, and completely addictive. Whether you’re a longtime fan or just discovering the Holly series, this book will pull you in and refuse to let go.

(I would encourage those that are just discovering the Holly series to start with Criss Cross and follow the recommended reading list for the best experience!)

OVERALL STAR RATING: 6/5
CLEAN RATING: 5/5

How do I properly express how much I ADORE the Holly Novel series!? I feel as though I’m going to struggle to find appropriate words. Immediately in book one you are sucked into a world that brings heart-pounding suspense, thriller vibes, found family and the most unexpected top-notch HUMOR and banter for this genre that I’ve ever experienced. C.C. Warrens consistently delivers jaw-dropping stories throughout the entire series and now here we are at book six and I only find myself falling more and more in love with these characters. We’ve got to know them all so well and I’m certainly not ready to let go so please, bring us at LEAST six more books in this series. lol

I feel as though I’m going to have to keep this review short and vague so as not to spoil major plot points that have happened throughout past books. Just know that you will NOT regret picking these up. While they are heavy and intense at times, you’re going to be filled with so much hope by the end. These are Christian suspense novels and C.C. doesn’t shy away from layering in those faith elements. It’s what makes this series truly special.

Jace Walker is Holly’s best friend and has some SERIOUS family drama going on. Jace requests the help of Holly and Jordan’s private investigating skills to help unearth what seem to be deep and dark family secrets. Unearthing these skeletons in Jace’s family’s closet could very well mean the matter between life and death for her brother. Holly and Jordan take on the mission, but danger is truly lurking around every single corner and jaw-dropping revelations are revealed throughout this incredible page-turner.

If you love Christian suspense, don’t sleep on this author’s work! If you’re not sure if you like the genre, well…the Holly novels are a highly recommended place to start.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I loved this series since I first read book one. I never get enough of the found family and friendship. A book filled with unexpected twist and turns. I enjoy Holly as main character the girl just can't help finding herself in crazy predicaments. I enjoy the faith based themes throughout the story as well. Overall enjoyed the book, nothing compares to book one, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Do not start this series on this book, or even in the middle of the series. Do yourself a favor and start at the beginning of the series. This book and your overall experience of the series will be so much richer for it.

Every time an author I love writes a new book in a series, I worry. I worry I won't like the book as much as the previous ones, or I won't like it at all. Thankfully, my fears were put to rest almost immediately, even though this book starts slower than the other novels in the series.

What I love about this series is that it continues to follow the same group of people from the very first book. They are getting older, entering new stages of life, and even Holly is maturing more. Yet, she still manages to land herself in a big heap of trouble. It doesn't even take much effort. It is a talent.

There were several surprises in this book, and it brought out a lot of emotions. The deeper the story went, the more invested I was. I had a hard time putting it down, and it more than made up for the slower beginning. There were times I simply could not believe what Holly had walked herself into. In some ways, I am like, will she ever learn? Yet again, it's a talent of hers to get herself into those sticky situations, not thinking about consequences, but simply trying to do something good.

This book seemed to be a bit gorier than previous books, or that simply could have been my mood. The story is sticking with me, and I find myself thinking about certain situations at random times. I love this series. I love the found family, and I love that we continue to see the characters grow, and I can't wait to see what is next for them.

Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this book early. I was not required to provide a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

When Holly's best friend Jace asks their PI firm to help her discover the truth of the accident that landed her brother in a coma, Holly is eager to comply, but Jordan is more reluctant - agreeing only because he knows Holly will investigate anyway. Things get complicated fast when their investigation stumbles over a murder and it becomes evident that the murderer will stop at nothing to hide his identity. What is the truth of Scott's accident? And will the attempt to uncover it end fatally for them as it has for others?

This was the first book I've read by the author and it has me wanting to go back and read the previous five books! I loved Holly as a character - she'll do whatever she needs to to look after and help her friends, despite her habit of landing in trouble, sometimes serious trouble. Her mild 'bumbling' ways were very refreshing after so many completely competent characters, and I appreciated the way Jordan, Sam and Max (not to mention Savannah and Jace) did their best to help and support her while also keeping her somewhat realistic that no, she can't just casually take out a guy twice her size. The mystery itself kept me guessing right to the end, and the action was enough to keep things moving without jumping from one crisis to another. As for the proposal - I loved it! It was hilarious. Highly recommended and I hope to read more by the author.

“I survived, and I wouldn’t give the rest of my life over to bitterness. Whatever days I had left were mine, and I would focus on the joy rather than the pain.”

Whew! I have safely survived reading Crossbones, A Holly Novel #6, by C. C. Warrens! I thoroughly enjoyed myself as I journeyed with Jordan, Holly, Sam, and Jace through the dangerous and complex cold case of Jace’s brother, Scott. This is the first C. C. Warrens book I have read. I must say, while I would not suggest most pick up the series this far through, Warrens gives enough backstory that this novel made perfect sense. Will I have spoiled previous novels? Perhaps, but more so, I now need all the deets that I just have an inkling of, in so many cases. So, now I need to go back and read all the Holly series books!

Jace, a young woman from one of New York’s most affluent families, is suing her mother in court for the power of attorney rights over her comatose brother, Scott. Jace idolizes her big brother, and even though he’s been kept alive by machines for four years, she is certain her mother has an ulterior motives in wanting to pull the plug. So, Jace hires her best friend’s boyfriend’s detective agency to discover her mother’s secret. Time is essential, and Holly, part of the JGH agency, refuses to stand by, as requested, and let her boyfriend, Jordan, investigate by himself. Noble of her, but after reading just a few paragraphs, the reader will be pretty uncertain Holly has the physical prowess to defend herself.

While headstrong Holly is begged by both her boyfriend and her police officer “dad” to be careful and do nothing on her own, somehow… she sure gets herself into lots of situations that require either a quick escape or a rescue! Holly has a strong faith that she tries to share with her bestie, Jace, as they work the case. “Church is not gonna fix this.” “It’s not about fixing things. It’s about drawing closer to God and letting Him fill you up when the world has drained you dry.” Unfortunately, Jace has been indoctrinated against Christianity from her mother.

One question is often at the forefront of Jace’s mind, and also Holly’s. What happened that caused Mrs. Walker to turn her back on her son? Why is Mrs. Walker such a difficult, controlling person? The answers are very shocking!

Warrens does show a bit more detail of the crimes than some authors. However, no more than one might see on an intense crime show mystery. What I absolutely love about her writing is the way she inserts such humor into very tense situations. I actually laughed out loud many times just after I had bitten my nails down! I’ll never see Chia seeds the same!

And just when I thought it was safe to peek out from under the covers… Bang! Huge plot twist! Well-played!!

I received a copy of the book from JustRead Tours. I also bought my own ecopy. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.

Notable Quotables:

“I know that, too often, people dismiss the truth because it’s easier to cling to what they already believe, even if that belief is wrong and harmful.” - Holly

“I’ve seen a lot of people sink so deeply into their anger that it consumes them, and eventually, it’s all they have left. I don’t want that for you.” - Holly

“Before was a concept I knew too well. The life, dreams, and identity that existed before tragedy tore them away and forced a person to start over.” (Holly)

What starts out as a case that looks straight forward turns into a tangled web of secrets and mystery when Holly and Jordan are recruited by a friend to help with some family drama. I loved the layers of the story and how it kept me guessing until the end! Written beautifully, with well done characters who are relatable, I look forward to reading more by the author!

This is the 6th book in the series and should be read in order.

Crossbones has serious subject matter sprinkled with humor to break the tension.
This series is one of my favorites.
Ms. Warrens knows how to write an absorbing story with characters you come to love. The relationship between Holly and her cohorts is priceless. They support her through all her many perilous adventures. They care so much for her: Jace as her best friend, Marx as her Dad figure and Jordan as her childhood friend who wants to be so much more. And let’s not forget the canine companion Riley and Sausage the cat.
The faith of the characters is forefront in their lives and guides their actions, although they are all fallible. Even in the underbelly of New York City, Holly has a soft heart and wants to help those lost souls that she can empathize with. The danger not only effects Holly but also her best friends and they there to help her figure out the many impossible connections. These stories just keep getting better and better.
In my estimation, this is the perfect contemporary, thriller/suspense book that takes us into the world of Holly Cross and teaches many worthwhile lessons.

Another winning story by C.C. Warrens! This is book 6 in the Holly Novels and though there is sufficient background provided in this story that it probably could be enjoyed on its own, I definitely recommend reading this series in order. Scenes from prior books are referenced, so you may get spoilers if you read out of order, but it was a good refresher for me since I did not re-read the series prior to picking this one up. (I did re-read Winter Memorial, which took about an hour and I would recommend that refresher if it's been awhile for you like it had been for me). Holly's best friend Jace hires Holly and Jordan's PI firm to find out what happened to her brother, and it puts them in the crosshairs of something bigger. When the body count starts rising, Jace, Holly and Jordan have to stay one step ahead of the killer in order to not be counted among the victims.

This novel includes all of the things that I have come to expect from a C.C. Warrens novel - stay-up-too-late page-turning suspense, witty banter, shenanigans, a faith thread that pops in naturally and is not in your face, and a mystery that I didn't foresee the ending to until the very end, great storytelling, and characters that have become friends who continue to grow and develop throughout the story. Fans who have been rooting for Holly and Jordan to become "more than friends" will be glad to see the development continue from the ending of the prior novel. It has been thrilling to see the characters of this series grow throughout the series, which is another reason I'll recommend reading this one in order. This story had an excellent ending that keeps me wanting more from the author, but no cliffhangers. This week has been an emotionally rough one, and this book was exactly what I needed to lift my spirits - a story that thoroughly pulled me in and made me laugh, and made me care. I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this book! I heartily recommend to fans of suspense and romantic suspense novels. Special thanks to the author for an advance e-copy of this book. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.

She is a truth-seeker, defending her and the rights of others, to step out and risk in search of the truth she is defending!! She is a Warrior and a friend!! She tries to shine light in the darkest corners! Her redemptive style reaches even the hardened critics in this beautiful book full of hope and suspense !!! Woven through the pages of this book, Author CC Warrens continues to draw us into the beauty and fragility of life for her characters! This book has many beautiful twists and turns ending in the most beautiful explosion of love and devotion on many levels! I could not put this book down and I highly recommend its beautiful and complex story of the balancing act between good and evil! This book teaches us not to judge any person by first impressions! Yes, I believe CC Warrens gifts us life lessons through her beautiful books to show us how to love, respect and cherish one another… even those who have gone astray and need Gods forgiving grace and love! Crossbones is book six in a wonderful suspense/thriller series that you’re going to want to buckle up and read all of. I’m a huge fan! You want to read the whole series, though not just this one.

Love! All the good things to say about this one! The mystery is top-notch. The characters are amazing and really call out to you. You either love them or hate them; there is no ambivalence allowed! It moves quickly.

I love the family secrets as a main theme.
All families have secrets. It’s whether they’re the dark ones or more harmless ones that comes to play here. What are we willing to bury and hide? And what will we do to keep them buried and out of the light?

Love the humor! Love the mystery. And, oh my, you think this is a normal mystery that you can have figured out from the beginning, but it’s not! It’s gonna twist and turn and then flip upside down on you!

Christian suspense! Yes, it stays faith-based and clean. I value that so much. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like to read books that I have to sharpie out words and black out paragraphs in case my kids grab it and try to read. Through the years, as my kids have gotten older and I’ve shared books with them, I’ve gotten even more vigilant about what I read. This fits my bill. It’s not graphic even though it has some crimes and such that you wouldn’t want a little child to read, but it’s not something that I wouldn’t let my young adults read. This series is a hit for them and for them. It’s available for my older teens to read. Our rule for books like this is that if you can drive, you can read it.

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, which I received from JustRead Publicity Tours. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review, nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.

Crossbones is another awesome Holly novel by C.C. Warrens. This series is just amazing. I love these characters, they're so real to me. Even though Holly is becoming more sure of herself, we still get plenty of Marx and Holly time. And I love the relationship development between Holly and Jordan. Though the Jordan/Marx animosity is maybe getting a bit old. And I love the continued best friend rivalry between Jordan and Jace.

Jace plays quite the important role in this book as she is the one who hires Jordan and Holly to investigate what happened to her brother four years earlier, an attack we learn a bit about here and there in the series, but takes center stage in this book. Make sure you've read all the books in the recommended reading order. Don't miss the short story, Winter Memorial as there is some important information shared that comes up in this new book.

This investigation starts out with a tragic situation and the danger just ramps up from there. It's obvious that someone (or maybe more than one someone) doesn't want the truth coming to light. At the same time Holly is approached about finding a missing homeless person. Which leads to more danger. And Holly's ex-foster father is still trying to get a hold of her, increasing the tension. So yeah, there's danger coming from multiple sides but Holly stays true to form. Rushing to help others without thinking about the consequences, showing Christ's love and sharing His truths.

There were also some intriguing twists, one of which I had an inkling of before it was revealed. Death and dead bodies play a part in this story, as does mention of abuse and physical violence. Not as intense as in Crossed Off, but still a part of the story.

I admit, I was hoping to see Cassie a bit more. But I realize she has to make her own life and doesn't really play a part in this story.

I loved this book and zinged through it just like the others.

I received an e-copy of this book as a member of the launch team and was not required to write a favorable review. These are my own honest thoughts.

I have just lost two days of doing any productive because I was so into this book that everything and everyone around me faded into obscurity. I am sitting here wondering how I have not ever read any of the books in this series. I have been missing out.

The suspense and intrigue were off the charts. The characters were so incredible that I do not even know how to describe them. As I learned more about their backstories of how they where they have been and who they are today, it was haunting but encouraging at the same time.

Though the mystery and chase for justice are important parts of the story, the author also builds the characters giving them heart and grit and very easy to like. She even adds in humor scattered throughout the story. I learned quickly that you did not want Holly to cook. She was a hazard in the kitchen.

The faith element is expertly written into the story as well. A couple of my favorite quotes stood out as a reminder that none of us are perfect - "Church is not going to fix this. It's not about fixing things. It's about drawing closer to God and letting him fill you up when the world has drained you dry." The second was when Holly was trying to help Jace see perfection is not a possibility, nor is it a necessity. "If only perfect people were supposed to come through the doors of a church, the building would be permanently empty. It's not about perfection." All of these characters had scars, some were visible and some were not, but they remained true to their mission and true to one another.

All I know for sure after reading this book is that my to be read pile just got five books higher because I will have to read books 1 through 5 now.

Thank you to JustRead Publications and the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I just finished CrossBones by C.C. Warren, and it is so much more then just a mystery.

Yes, the suspense is there—layered, gripping, and constantly shifting in a way that keeps you questioning everything. But what stayed with me long after I turned the last page wasn’t the crime…

…it was the healing.

The way she wrote Holly’s journey from the first book until now was incredibly powerful. She didn’t rush her. She didn’t simplify her pain. She allowed her to exist in that space between fear and courage, and she showed what it really looks like to take small, meaningful steps toward trust again.

Those moments mattered. The quiet ones. The hesitant ones. The ones that might seem small to the outside world but are actually everything.

I was excited seeing this book focused a bit more on Holly and Jordan. And the way her relationship with Jordan unfolds—gentle, patient, never forced—felt so intentional and respectful of her story. It added a depth to the book that made the emotional side just as compelling as the suspense.

At the same time, the mystery never let go. Every thread felt purposeful, every reveal earned. And the dynamics between Sam and Jace added another layer that left me genuinely hoping to see more of their development as well!

What she created here is something that balances tension and tenderness so well—faith, brokenness, growth, and hope all woven into one story.

I had the privilege of reading this, and I can say this wholeheartedly:

CrossBones doesn’t just keep you turning pages—it leaves an imprint.

And those are the stories that matter most.—

PS…..

I am already waiting so impatiently for the next book!

Thank you CC for such a wonderful, inspiring story.

God bless you!

📚 Series: A Holly Novel (Book 6)
🎭 Genre: Mystery/Suspense

🥜 In a Nutshell: Holly and Jordan have been hired to investigate Jace's brother's attack. Jace is hoping to find something that will prevent her mother from removing her brother from life support. But the more they dig into the truth, the more someone wants it silenced permanently.

✅ Excellent character development
✅ Surprising twists
✅ Pulse pounding suspense

This was my most anticipated read of this year and it did not disappoint! Holly and the gang are back with another mystery to solve but this time it's more personal since it involves Jace, Holly's best friend. I really enjoyed the mystery a lot and I loved the twists the story took. Plus it was nice getting more of Jace as this felt very much like her story. Holly and Jordan on the case made for some fun moments plus they have progressed in their relationship but in a natural way that would be expected given everything she has been through. I loved seeing Holly mature and grow while still remaining her quirky self. Holly still got herself into sticky situations but she was able to fight back a little more this time. There were lots of tense moments of danger throughout the story that kept me flipping pages. I also loved the epilogue and seeing the characters I love move forward in their relationships. There were also a lot of funny moments and faith moments sprinkled in. All in all, great character development, excellent suspense, and a mystery filled with twists. I loved spending time with these characters again!

Thank you to C.C. Warrens for the ARC! All opinions expressed are my own.

C.C. Warrens' latest Holly novel Crossbones is PERFECT! It's the Mary Poppins of suspense stories: classic Holly with marshmallows and protective attempts gone wrong, attempted kidnappings, confused blood families and found family closeness, healing and growth, twists and turns, - this story has it all, and I love it.

The premise is perfect: everyone is trying to protect someone else for a different reason, and in true Holly style, none of it works out as planned. I kept thinking, sadly, that I had reached the end as there seemed to be resolution in sight, and then, bam! another crazy twist appeared and there were more mysteries to solve. There's lots of Holly, lots of mysteries, lots of suspense - lots of story to enjoy.

One particular aspect I liked was that while everyone grows in this new story, we still see evidence of the past wounds on them. It wouldn't be realistic if life was suddenly hunky-dory, and Warrens' doesn't make it so: Holly and friends are moving past the trauma she's lived but also learning how to live with it and with the lessons they've learned. Those lessons include wisdom that only real trials impart, and while any story about Holly has to be deep, these add another layer of wisdom and reality that takes the story to the next level.

So if you're a fan of Holly, don't wait - just go and pre-order Crossbones now. You definitely don't want to miss it.

"I think you'll find that we are the only detective agency that keeps marshmallows in a sealed container for customers . . . "

JGH Investigations might appear a bit unconventional, but they make up for lagging aesthetics with their iron clad determination to track down every lead. Their current assignment hits extremely close to heart and home, for Holly's best friend Jace has requested that she and Jordan find out what really happened to Jace's brother Scott, who remains in a coma after a vicious beating. Unfortunately, Jace's mother continues to pursue legal action to end life support, literally burying any evidence related to the attack. Something isn't adding up. (or being covered up)

As the layers of the evening in question begin to unravel, the two investigators manage to track down leads that were either missed or ignored, directing their focus towards questionable characters, reluctant witnesses, dead bodies; resulting in multiple attempts on their lives. What in the world had Scott Walker been into, and how in the world is Holly going to explain it all to Jace? (if she has breath to tell the story)

With her signature humor and deft plotting skills, (not to mention designing one of the most iconic personalities in contemporary suspense) this author has penned yet another wonderful blend of character and story, displaying deep spiritual connotations and unexpected outcomes.

I couldn't turn the pages fast enough!

C.C. Warren’s Crossbones is the kind of novel that lingers with you long after you’ve turned the final page—a gripping, atmospheric story that blends tension, emotion, and sharp storytelling into something I couldn't put down.

What struck me most about Crossbones was how immersive it felt. Warren has a talent for pulling readers straight into the world of the story, balancing vivid descriptions with a pace that never drags. The plot unfolds with just the right amount of suspense, revealing key details at moments that keep you hooked without ever feeling overwhelmed or confused.

The characters are layered, flawed, and believable in ways that make their choices feel relatable. As the story progresses, you begin to understand not just what they’re doing, but why—and that emotional depth adds real weight to the narrative. It’s easy to become invested in their journeys, which makes the stakes feel higher with every chapter.

Overall, Crossbones is a compelling, well-crafted novel that delivers both emotional resonance and narrative excitement. It’s a book I’d easily recommend to anyone who enjoys stories that combine strong character work with an undercurrent of mystery and tension, but be sure to read the previous books in this series first, this is not a series to read out of order.

I can’t find the words—wow, wonderful, exciting, excellent, perfect—to describe this newest book in the Holly series by CC Warrens. It’s that good!

Over the course of this series I’ve grown to love all of the characters and how they’ve grown throughout each book. Marx the perfect dad, Shannon the only one who could play against his overprotective heart, Sam and Jace, the perfect opposites attract with his stoic, logical mind and her bubbly, quirky personality, Jordan with his unconditional love for Holly, and Holly whose confidence and trust are becoming a part of who she is.

I also appreciated the faith thread that runs organically through the book without heaping guilt on the reader. It’s all part of the makeup of some of the characters while making you hopeful for all of them.

Beyond the characters, “Crossroads” is a perfectly paced suspense novel that offers breath stealing moments, and suspects you love to hate. The surprises just kept coming right up until the end. I loved this book.

I was given an advance copy courtesy of the author and this is my honest opinion of the book.

Writing a review for a C.C. Warrens’ Holly Novel is like trying to describe riding a roller coaster, there’s just no way to adequately put into words the highs and lows, twists and turns, fear and exhilaration you will feel as she takes you for a ride deep into the world of Holly! This series will wreck you and strengthen you, have you laughing one moment and turning all the lights in the house on a minute later. This story will keep you reading late into the night while also wanting to slow down to savor it. Because you know when the book is over, you’re going to want to be back inside Holly’s world for longer. Because the characters aren’t just your friends, they’re your found family. Yes, Crossbones is as amazing as the rest of the series! You will not be disappointed. If you haven’t read the entire series, I highly, highly recommend starting with Criss Cross and reading the books in order. If I could give this book 10 stars I would. I read an advanced readers copy of the book and I have a physical copy already on preorder. All thoughts and opinions in this review are honest and original to me.

Um, WOW. Just wow.

This one started out a little on the slower side to me, but TRUST THE PROCESS. Every single seemingly detail makes sense in the end, making this such a satisfying read!

My favorite thing, as always, is revisiting characters that feel like old friends. The way C.C writes her characters is truly something special, you really feel like you know them and it was so comforting to be back with them again.

I really enjoyed that this novel focused on Jace and her family’s story and past. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but the novel did an excellent job of humanizing characters that we had previously thought incapable of emotion or heart. The Walker family is far more complicated than the previous context would have you believe.

This one was also VERY twisty-turny. There were multiple twists and red herrings that I wasn’t expecting. Even when I thought the story was over and resolved, a giant twist took the story in a new direction. Trying to keep this review brief as to not accidentally give anything away.

Favorite Holly book yet, and (impatiently) waiting for the next one!

P.S. the epilogue totally brought a tear to my eye, SO SWEET.

This may be my favorite installment of the series so far! I was immediately pulled in from the first page and did not want to come up for air until the end. The banter, suspense, faith content, and character relationship building were all on point, far exceeding any high expectations I had for this anticipated release.

I appreciate the author does not shy away from hard topics, but presents them honestly without graphic detail. The investigation was cleverly detailed, keeping me speculating and shocked by surprise twists. Numerous times I wondered how the characters would possibly escape a situation. Once, I was truly fearful a favorite character would not make it. I cannot wait to see where the series takes my favorite found family cast.

I highly recommend this story and series to anyone who enjoys fast-paced, chilling suspense with no spice, humor, and heart.

I was provided a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Once again, C.C. Warrens proves she is at the top of her game with her Holly series, book 6, "Crossbones." The book grabs you from page one and does not let go until the very end. While I wanted to devour it, I also wanted to savor every word. The suspense is, as always, spot on while the humor and character development makes you feel as though these people are as real as your closest friends and neighbors. This book took turns I never expected, though I should learn to expect the unexpected! If you have never read one of C.C. Warrens' books, and you have a desire for brilliantly written, clean suspense, I encourage you to start with book 1 of the Holly series, "Criss Cross." You will enjoy the journey all the way through this newest book which will leave you wanting more and more! Her Cherry Creek series is great as well. The writing is not "formulaic" which is such a welcome break from so many other books. Give C.C. Warrens a chance to make you a fan for life!

Christian Suspense Romance novels are a favorite. Crossbones by C.C. Warrens is Book 6 in the Holly Series. I have not read the books in this series until now and I am excited to read this book.

The storyline captured my interest immediately. The main characters in this book are Holly and Jordan, They are asked to take on a case that their friend Jace Walker needs assistance with. Jace will do anything to save her brother's life and that is where the case begins. Holly and Jordan are put into danger almost immediately, someone doesn't want they meddling it seems. They are not deterred, matter of fact they seem more determined to help Jace uncover some family secrets. The book is fast paced, full of twists and turns, and kept me on the edge of my chair throughout the book. The book is one of Family Secrets, Friendships, and more. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoy Christian Suspense Romance AMAZING BOOK!

Crossbones by C.C. Warrens is a refreshing, action-packed read with a cast you’ll fall in love with. If you’re looking for a gripping story where the stakes feel real and the emotional payoff is even better, this is a must-read.
The standout feature of this book is undoubtedly the character dynamics. Warrens excels at creating organic, layered relationships that drive the plot forward. The chemistry between the leads is palpable; it’s built on shared history, mutual respect, and those quiet, high-stakes moments that keep you turning pages late into the night.
Holly is a total scene-stealer. She is written with such a perfect blend of vulnerability and charm that you can’t help but find her absolutely adorable. She provides the emotional "anchor" for the story, making the more intense plot points feel deeply personal.

Holly and her Loved ones

Holly's novels have captivated me completely, and I've devoured every book in her collection. Not once have I been disappointed, though the waiting period between releases initially tested my patience. Now, I understand that literary brilliance cannot be rushed.

Her storytelling is a masterful blend of intrigue and unpredictability. Each narrative challenges readers to solve the mystery, only to brilliantly subvert expectations with unexpected plot twists. The tension is so palpable that you'll find yourself simultaneously wanting to pause and desperate to continue reading, compelled by an irresistible narrative momentum.

I wholeheartedly recommend diving into this series from the first book. The character development is so engaging that you'll be instantly hooked, guaranteed to become a devoted fan from the very first page.

what are you waiting for, get to reading.

Every time I read a book by C.C. Warrens I think she won’t be able to top the one I just finished. I am always amazed at how she can craft books that outdo the others. The way she can crack me up one minute and a few pages later make my emotions go on a roller coaster. This book deals with accepting responsibility for our actions or lack of actions and what consequences can come when we make the wrong choices. You can get away with reading this book by itself but the more of the previous books you have read the more you understand the background of the situations in this book. I warn people often that her books are highly addictive. Once you read one you want to read them all. Even if you rarely read a book twice you may find yourself reading or listening to them over and over.

This book did not disappoint. The only bad thing is, I finished reading it in one day and I wanted to keep on reading. I love all the Holly books, as well as the Firefly Diaries and the sequel. I have read most of them more than once and I know I will read Crossbones again.

C.C. Continues to build on the relationships of the characters. Some things are explained that I wondered about. The ending like all the others was a complete surprise.

(I do get upset when Holly puts her friends in harms way though). I love all the little quirks each character exhibits. I kind of wish Holly and Jordan had moved a little further in their relationship though the trust between them continues to grow.

*Full Disclosure* I had the privilege of proofreading Crossbones but I would have read it either way because I LOVE this series.

I really enjoyed that we learned more about Jace's family's history. There were some things I saw coming and others I did not predict at all but made total sense once revealed.

As for the ending, I don't want to say too much because of spoilers, but in the beginning I was thinking the apparent bad guy seemed too "normal." If you've read Warrens' books you know the culprits are twisted. Sure enough, then came the twists--yes, plural! And everything we've come to expect from the author was delivered.

Potential triggers: it deals with abuse (physical, mental, and sexual).
