Though the book oversells itself on its stated point of really digging deep into why Scotland was the one Celtic land to become an internationally recognized state and survive through the medieval era, this is still the best history on the time period for Scottish political history.

Dnf @ 20% because the writing was too academic. Definitely not for someone just dipping their toes into Scottish history
