I really enjoyed this book! The book starts with Palta who works at a scientific facility and she has a huge crush on Aeron a co-worker. Palta and her family are from another planet. Their planet (Ontoni) is in the middle of a civil war and so Palta's parents and her sister fly to Earth to try and bargain with the people of Earth to let them live there. They soon realize that Earth is not the place for them.
Soon they realize someone has come from their planet to track down Aeron and his sister. You get background information about Palta and her family then things start to happen. M.A. does a great job with character building and action. She makes everything very realistic. Can't wait to read the next book.

Mama’ Thoughts on Promimity Book 1:
First of all, this was an interesting, genre blending read that took me by surprise. Is is sci-fi? Romance? sort of dystopian but not really? So many possibilities but none fit quite right, and I enjoy that in a book. Proximity is told from the POV of Palta, and although she is not of this planet, she displays an array of human emotions. You really feel as if you understand what she is going through, and you are on the edge of your seat waiting to see how it all turns out. You aren’t kept waiting long though! This was not in the least bit clumsy or off pace, and I found myself staying up a bit too late reading this one, only to wish I could stay up even more for the next book!

I want to start out by saying that I love the idea of being an alien by blood but an American by birth. It’s a unique premise and it’s what initially drew me to the book. It starts off a little strange because the narrator, Palta, spends the first few chapters talking as if she’s in an interview. She talks directly to the reader as if she’s answering questions to an unseen and unheard interviewer with each chapter being a different question.
This would’ve been an interesting tactic if perhaps it actually was an interview and a few paragraphs at the beginning of the chapter that were written in that style before moving to a differently styled prose. As it stands now the beginning of the book is interesting, but very slow as Palta narrates the story of her long life living among humans. So once again my pet peeve of writing pops up again there is lots of telling but no showing. It was pure information dump for the first four chapters.
The action picks up after Palta discovers that the man she’d been crushing on has a major secret of his own. Unfortunately however in spite of the slight change in narrative style the author maintains tell > show, which is this story’s primary weakness. A lot of this book could’ve been a lot more interesting had information been slowly revealed via action and intrigue.
However the plot was still pretty interesting as the political problems of the home planet started coming to Earth but I found myself disappointed in the cliche “evil aliens want to destory/take over the earth” reveal. I also found it disappointing that the plot had so much promise for action but it primarily took place off stage (ex: the rebellion, and even the majority of the work to find an anti-viral cure to prevent humanity from being wiped out). That and when a problem did arise I found that the characters solved it either magically or just too plain quickly/easily.
Now, remember how I said the beginning of the book was slow? Well, after Palta and her love interest get into a relationship. A relationship that started mere hours after having their first real conversation (palta had admired him from afar til this point). The story picked up dramatically, don’t get me wrong past-paced plots are good -- but this one was too fast. Helped along by the aforementioned fact that solutions just came too easily to the group, or the action took place off stage. However what really took the cake for “too-fast” that it made the story unbelievable was the romance between Palta and Eric.
Now I’ll preface this by saying that I dislike books where the characters fall in love instantly. Especially when the reader is given very little indication about why these two characters are so attracted to each other if they showed no signs of prior chemistry. Now, this romance started so suddenly it was jarring. Mere minutes after meeting her again after the incident where she discovered his secret (prior to which it’s implied she had no interaction with him) he starts kissing her as soon as they are alone. That said I appreciated the kiss because it was the only time in the novel that the author showed rather than explicitly told you that there was a strange connection between them that confused both of them. At the very least I appreciated that the characters were just as confused as I was. Eric then ran away from her after said kiss and I thought for a moment that this might be the first time insta-love could be interesting -- with some paranormal, unseen force pushing them together -- and them trying to resist it.
Unfortunately this wasn’t the case. The next time they are together (the next morning) Eric and Palta enter a committed relationship with this line, “I have come to realize that your presence in my life is a source of strength.” …. She’d only been present in his life for less than a day at this point. Not only that but Palta also decides that she is going to leave behind everything she knows and loves at this point to leave her family behind on earth. Again, for a guy she only started talking to a day ago. The book very quickly became a Romeo and Juliet on steroids (without the resistance from their families or bloodshed), Palta even said that she feared Eric losing his life over the sister she’s known (and said was her ‘better self’) for a over a century. Needless to say the romance was eyeroll inducing.
That said, there were parts of the book that I really enjoyed. The idea driving the story was really interesting. I enjoyed Palta as a character (sans Eric) I found her endearing and it’s her character traits (again, sans Eric) that kept me going through the story. I also enjoyed the members of their respective families a lot -- although I wish we could’ve gotten to know the cast better. When it’s all said and done the main this that brought this book down was the fact that for the most part -- felt like an info dump -- and the pacing was just too fast to be believable.

"I am hopelessly obsesses with a beautiful, intelligent, gentle, seemingly perfect man who is most likely completely unaware of my general existence. It is an altogether human emotional experience.
Did I mention I'm not human?..."
I haven’t read a wide of variety of Sci-Fi novels but reading Proximity opens up my imagination to a brighter Sci-Fi world out there. The copy was provided by the author a couple of weeks back now and I'm honestly skeptical about starting reading this because I have this certain fear that I wouldn’t like it as much as I’d like to, so I lagged into reading it, but when I finally find the time and the courage, I started it a few days ago and I was surely surprised that I was easily thrown into reading it. Once I got in that certain part of the book I can't get enough - It engrossed me and holds my attention.
The plot line was unique and pretty much interesting - filled with action and surprises. But the story’s pacing was really slow that sometimes you get the feeling that you’re losing the meaning of the things you read and it’s really not good. Another thing I consider not so good is the romance part of it – I was baffled; I don’t really know how did Palta and Eric easily ”fall in love” in that short span of time with not much talking or whatsoever. I consider their romance abrupt and don’t have a base to it. But if those circumstances I’ve pointed out are taken aside, I would consider them a good pair though.
For a book with pages that ranges around 400 or so I consider it too short. Too short for all the action I'm really anticipating. There are slow moments within the story that I think could’ve supplied with a much lively scene.
I did like the characters - all of them. No one in particular really stand up but each one of them worked perfectly for me when they’re all together. Love, friendship and family ties are well presented here.
Anyhow, I consider Proximity as a good come back for me into reading Sci-Fi novels once again and I'm definitely going to look next for its sequel. I'm still intrigued on how things are going to be on the next book.

Palta Capal has secrets, firstly; she’s not human, her parents travelled to earth from a faraway planet called Ononti before she was even conceived. Secondly, she’s over 100 years old, even though she still looks less than thirty.
Palta’s other secret is that she has the hots for a man, a human man – Eric, although she doesn’t intend to act on it.
When she later finds Eric with his head bashed in in his lab, Palta knows that she must do something, not only because he is injured, but because his blood is bright orange – the same as hers, marking him as a traveller from Ononti. Using her healing powers Palta saves his life, only to have him run from her once he regains consciousness.
Who is Eric really though? What is he doing on earth? Why did he run from Palta when she saved his life? And what more can she do to help him?
I enjoyed this story, I liked the sci-fi aspect, and I also liked the romance.
I was in two minds when I started this book, I wasn’t sure if I would like it, but once I got used to the writing style this wasn’t an issue.
Palta was an interesting character, and I liked how she immediately helped Eric, even when she didn’t know who he really was, or what he was doing on earth. I liked how she willing to make sacrifices for love, and how dearly she loved her father and sister.
Erin was a bit of a honey, and I liked the romance between him and Palta. Their feelings developed quickly but this didn’t bother me, and I liked how sweet they were together.
I thought the ‘alien’ aspect of the story was done well, and I liked the little touches like the fact that their blood was bright orange! The rest of the storyline flowed well, and I liked that there was action as well as science in the solution to their problems.
The ending had action as well as some unexpected twists, and although there was an ending to the story, it is obvious that there will be another book to continue the parts of the story not wrapped up.
Overall; a good sci-fi/romance.

Overall, I really enjoy the book. Lots of action, some twists and turns, but A LOT of romance. Which would of been fine if Aeron and Palta actually would of know each other for more then a day before claiming their love for one another. Palta literally hadn't said more than a handful of words to him and after one conversation and maybe actually knowing him for a day decided that she can't live without him. Just no, I don't believe it. It actually annoyed me through the book, but other wise I really enjoyed the break from vampires and werewolfs to read this book about aliens. Just wish the writer spent a little more time on the foundation of the characters relationships.

Who knew aliens could be so sexy? I loved the world, characters, and information M.A. George created in this novel. Palta and Aeron are such a good combo and it's obvious they were made for each other. I'd heard good things about this series, so we I had the opportunity to review for a tour, I jumped on that! I'm SO glad I did, because this was hard to put down. I can't wait to read more in this series and find out how Dom does on another planet, what's up with her father and his brother, and just how they are going to get out of this sticky situation.

Proximity is a great start to this series! Beautifully written and very descriptive and still cryptic, Proximity starts with Palta's story. As the story progresses, you are introduced to her loving sister and father and human crush Eric. When something huge happens between Eric and Palta, their worlds collide and they discover they have more in common that they think.
The author did an outstanding job with Proximity. She ended it on a very high note that left me extremely curious and eager to start the next install, Relativity.

This was my first book by this author. It was a little slow in building the story, but I stuck with it. It was okay. Not a bad read, but not the first I would grab on a rainy day and maybe not a reread. It was not horrible, it just did not capture my attention in such a way that made me reluctant to put the book down. Now that I have finished, I am curious about what happens to Palta's father as well as how everyone gets their HEA. I may read the next book.

A good read
This is interesting. There's plenty of action. I enjoyed reading it, but some parts do seem to go too quickly. I don't think I'll read the next one, but I enjoyed this one. There is violence but no language. There's kissing and sensuality but no sex.

If I were to talk to Proximity (yes, I am referring to the book), then “You had me at hello” would be one of the first things out of my mouth. Followed by a few “How could you,” “What on earth was that? Are you trying to stop my heart?” and quite a few high fives. The first line of chapter one was a definite hooker, it even made me giggle. Which makes the ending one the sinker because at that point, I was completely hooked and engaged.
In the first chapter alone I highlighted six different things! I rarely highlight much in a book until I’m at least halfway through it. But in Proximity, M.A. George fills the pages with an engaging first person narrative with short vivid descriptions and fills it with personality so you can already see Palta’s story beginning to unfold. There aren’t a plethora of unnecessary words telling you important details, everything is shown to you through her use of witty dialogue and candid descriptions. For example when Palta starts talking about her hair, the tone is just what you’d expect. “It has the look of perpetual bed head, even after meticulous application of product and skillful use of a blow dryer and straightening iron.” I was a fan of Palta within seconds; after all we’re both fluent in sarcasm.
Proximity’s wide cast of characters breathe life into the plot and keep it moving smoothly until the bitter end. I only say bitter because it ended and I was not okay with being on the last page already. Once Palta finishes introducing you to her family and Eric (the super deliciously sexy smart man that’s unaware of her existence) everything starts to happen very fast. Proximity’s filled with surprises and moments where you’ll stop reading to think over what really just happened. I chose to tweet M.A. George my moments of sheer surprise but other than that, I couldn’t stop reading it. The dialogue between Sabella (Palta’s sister), their father and her show a strong family dynamic and create a great foundation for Palta’s story, helping you understand why she wants to find her place in the world. A lot of the most heart clenching moments occur when she’s thinking about her family in the beginning until Eric takes the crown half-way through while he’s working toward redemption. (No, I cannot elaborate without spoilers and I had strong feelings about this situation so I would most likely ramble until someone stopped me.)
However, there was a moment where for me he redeemed himself and boy it was sweet. Highlighted and tweeted. I was very interactive during this book, I couldn’t help myself. So I found fans who understood what I was going through. With that being said I did feel like the romance between Eric and Palta was quick, it wasn’t forced and considering how fast the story was moving, it made sense. Plus they got points since they did share some disagreements and conflict of ideas, instead of the instant “yes, anything you say” syndrome some female characters suffer from.
M.A. George blended just the right amount of sci-fi and romance together to create a compelling debut novel that leaves readers needing the second installment in the series immediately. She developed a complex world that’s unique to Proximity and a different planet from Earth altogether impeccably. They have their own language, government system, way of living and are frankly more advanced in certain areas. M.A. George introduces everything with smooth descriptions throughout the book without overwhelming readers and enabling you to envision the ships, buildings and what it must be like to live there without the story ever taking place there. I enjoyed every minute of reading Proximity and found myself rooting for Palta (and Eric after he earned redemption) throughout the entire novel, biting my nails, squealing in delight/amusement and gasping is surprise/shock and eagerly turning every page.

March 5, 2016Dr. Palta Capal is an alien/American. She is captivated by the human species and has spent her adult life focused on medicine, specializing in Infectious Diseases. Given the fact that she has special healing powers, her choice to work in human medicine seemed logical. Her family left their planet, Ononti, years ago to avoid being killed in an uprising. After arriving on Earth, her mother died during her birth, so Palta understands the history of her family and planet only through stories told to her by her older sister, Sabela. Palta is extremely close with her father and Sabela, who in many ways has been a mother figure her whole life. Eric has secrets of his own, and after an incident at work that threatens Eric's life and exposes Palta's secret healing ability, she realizes that she is not the only Onontian on Earth. After seeing Eric's telltale orange blood, Palta reveled her own true identity to Eric, but instead of bonding them he took off, leaving Palta weakened, from healing Eric, and confused by his terrified reaction to her. Initially with the help of Sabela, her husband Dominick and finally including her father, Palta searches to find answers to the presence of someone that is clearly from Ononti. Eric and his sister Emma, royalty from Ononti, join forces with the Capal family to thwart evil invaders of Earth and help return Eric and Emma to Ononti. Proximity has a very unique story line with a twist on typical paranormal stories. I really enjoyed the lead character in the book, Paltafoena, for many reasons, but the main reason being that she reminds me of a typical twenty-something first generation American who's family hails from another country, they feel the pull of two cultures and sometimes struggle with a desire to live the "American" way along with the family requirements to remain true to the originating culture. I liked all the action in the book after being introduced to Eric and his situation, but I thought that the first part of the book was a little slow. I also had a little bit of an issue with how quickly Eric and Palta fall in love. I don't really understand the whole, "love at first sight" thing and Proximity didn't help clear that up for me. The pacing of their relationship went from 0-60 and I had a hard time buying it. I also liked what we are told about Eric, but would liked to have had more information about him. Maybe that will come with the next book in the series. Overall I thought it was a good story with potential in the subsequent books to be even better.

You know, this sci-fi/alien stuff isn't really my thing, but only because I have not read too many of these kinds of books. I guess I'm still waiting for that book I'll really, really like. And this one I actually liked a lot! It was very creative! I liked these aliens posing as humans who came from this other world. I especially liked the small detail that even though Palta's family is from this other planet, she herself was born on Earth! How crazy is that?!
However, I really wish we could've gotten to know Palta's family a little better, especially Palta's relationship with her sister. I mean, sure we got all sorts of info at the very beginning, but it was more telling than showing, unfortunately.
But anyway, I thought it was cool that each of them had their own special ability. Palta's sister had this really cool ability I've never heard of before, so I thought that was very unique. But my favorite by far was Palta's power! Why, you might ask (although you should already know the answer to that ;)). Palta's power is that of healing with a touch. And me as a nursing student...well, you can see why it would be my favorite.
The book also gave me some surprises (I LOVE surprises!) For example, the human Palta has fallen for, Eric...Holy Hades I did not see that coming! I was just blown away by the revelation. What is it, you ask. Well, I aint telling 'cause I've been trying to be good and avoid spoilers ;)
But here's the thing, the relationship between Palta and, well, without giving too much away, her love interest, was just too fast! It wasn't insta-love, really (which I strongly dislike), but them not talking to them developing a relationship and getting all lovey-dovey was just happening very quickly. Even though it was moving forward too fast for my liking, I can't deny that them together was just super sweet and gave me all sorts of fuzzies and the warm feels. I'm a total sucker for that stuff ;)
There was also lots of action! And I like a good amount of action in my books. However, most of the action happened more towards the end of the book which made the beginning a little slow moving...but it wasn't too bad.
Final words: I thought it was a good read, and I enjoyed it very much. I would recommend this book to those who are fans of sci-fi/stuff with aliens...I really think this would be right up their ally! And I am actually very curious to see what will happen next after that twisty ending there in "Proximity!"

It's not much of a secret for those that really follow my reads that I was never one for paranormal or paranormal/scifi romance books before.
I was always one who thought romance books were still those old books with revolting covers, the kind you'd see mothers on television fawning over.
Not to mention slightly depressing when your single.
But I have really started to change my opinion now that I've read two or three. At least in terms of paranormal/science fiction romance.
Proximity had me at the mention of Jane Austen and the whole not human part.
I was not disappointed. This book was better than I could have hoped.
Palta was an easy character to relate to (maybe too easy? Minus the pointy ears, sadly) I really found myself liking her and in the end rooting for her.
She deserved to be happy and find her purpose, possibly more than any of the other characters. They all had very clear paths their lives were following, whether they chose it or not. She just happened to be the baby born on the new planet.
Eric, where do I even start. I'm not one to drool over physical descriptions of fictional characters, I'm just not that girl but after what he did for Palta when his ship was blown up.. he had me, hook line and sinker.
A man with a heart and a brain and he uses/lives by both.
I loved the way he was written, honest, intelligent, strong, but also scared. Scared enough to run, not once but twice.
Finally, it's not the female that runs. Yes, that needs to be bolded. It is just that important.
Though there is romance, it isn't the bigger part of the story, which I can appreciate and others also not really into romance will also. So if you are anything like I am/was on romance novels, you shouldn't have a problem being able to love Proximity.
Proximity is also down right hilarious at times. Warning for those who may read with a toddler sleeping next to them. :D I had my mouth covered with my hand a few times to keep from busting. Palta, you have to love her.
Definitely a five star book, and one of my favourite reads this year.
Romance fans will love this, science fiction fans will love this and those who have to read anything even mentioning Jane Austen.
The only thing that makes me sad about this book, was that it was just published in 2012 which means book two is another book, I'm going to have to try to patiently wait for.
All the while my brains going to be running all over the place thinking about what could happen.
Re-read value is definitely there.

3 stars = pretty good. I enjoyed Proximity largely because I liked the leading lady Palta who is an alien by genetics and American by birth, the story starts off fairly slowly while Palta discloses the details of her long life shaped by her healing powers and need to keep a low profile to avoid detection, and also of her family and how they came to be on Earth. Palta also talks about her crush on a coworker - a hunky medical researcher who doesn't seem to know that she exists. One day that changes rather dramatically - but not, initially, with the results she'd hoped for - and Palta learns that her dream guy has secrets that rival her own.
After that point the story shifts from being only inside of Palta's head and there is a fair amount of action, and a touch of romance. With the way that the story ends, it is clear that the author has more in store for Palta. I did end up with a few questions though about the story here, the transition in the romance is pretty quick with Palta and the object of her affection making decisions about a future together when they hadn't really gotten a chance to know each other - there is a suggestion that there might be some kind of 'connection' that drew them together from a distance, but it was never stated whether Palta's people have any type of a 'mate bond'. And if I had a nit it would be that we didn't get to know her leading man all that well either and while I liked the idea of what we did learn about him, I'd have liked to have gotten as clear a sense of him as a person as we got of Palta.

Proximity is the first book in a planned series about Dr. Palta, a female alien, who just wants to live a normal life on earth. When she finds out that her life and the lives of some of the other aliens of her race may be in danger, she must decide whether or not she is ready to leave her fairly comfortable life behind for the unknown. It would be a really hard choice for anyone to make! I felt for Palta while she was trying to make this choice.
This book started out a little slowly for me. The book is narrated by Palta and the first part of the book focuses heavily on Palta, her life, her family, and how she feels about being an alien surrounded by humans. It also focuses on a crush that she has on one of her fellow scientists who is hiding secrets of his own. It was a lot of telling and not a lot of showing. I thought some of the description could have been cut down. It's a lot of Palta speaking directly to the reader. Some of that might have been better as more action in the story. I wish there had been a little more action in the beginning of the book. It seemed to take a really long time to get to where there was some action in the story. Once the action starts happening, the momentum of the book really picks up and this kept me wanting to read to find out what happened to Palta and her family and her new friends.
After the first half of the book, the book really picks up with a whole lot of action as Palta and the aliens decide how to proceed with their escape back to their planet. There is also a little bit of romance between Palta and her handsome scientist, which I really liked. I wonder if that won't be explored more in future books! The book ends with a soft cliffhanger, which makes me wonder what else is in store for the merry band.

Proximity is not at all what I expected. Looking back, I realized I didn't really read many alien-based stories. In fact, I think the only book I've read that has aliens in it is Relative Velocity, which I read last year.
Now, I'm not gonna compare those two books just because they have aliens. Honestly, they aren't even close to similar. Firstly, Proximity was told in Palta's point of view and she happens to be inhuman. An alien. I'm not sure how her kind thinks, but I like Palta's way of telling her story. It was very fascinating, different, and somewhat poetic, yet there's a slight similarity to human thoughts, which might be because she was raised in human ways.
The plot itself was unique and intriguing. The first couple pages were a bit confusing, because this kind of book is somewhat alien to me (no pun intended). However, it gets better with each page turned as the story flows seamlessly and started to make sense. The plot twists were also unexpected, captivating and full of surprises. The anticipation and suspense just builds up, and I was really excited when the actions started. Like fidgety-can't-stay-still excited. It made me want more and more, and somehow I finished the book in a sitting.
I like all the secondary characters, especially Sabela who was protective and understanding. I also like Palta's and Eric's relationship, which was slow and steady. They were a perfect match for each other; both strong and stubborn yet cares deeply for their family and would do anything to keep them safe and happy.
All in all, I loved how Proximity just went over my expectations. It was suspenseful and gripping with a touch of romance every now and then. I would doubtlessly recommend it to everyone who enjoys a paranormal sci-fi that's a bit different than the norm. Definitely deserves more attention. 4 stars!

It is a daring author who attempts to combine a romance story into the fabric of a sci-fi novel. M.A. George does a beautiful job of weaving a story of love at first sight, and the magnetic attraction two people can have towards each other, while still keeping the tempo of what really feels like a sci-fi story.
Proximity is written from the perspective of Palta, a teaching doctor of microbiology, who all her life has avoided relationships with men, as she wanted to wait until she found the right partner. She had her reason for not wanting to commit to someone and get married, unlike her sister who did marry.
All that changed when Eric Moran arrived at her school and started working in the same department. She couldn’t help but notice him, as he was handsome and strong and had an air of confidence around him, but Eric never seemed to notice her.
Did I mention that Palta is not human?
Without giving up too much of the story, this is a tale of two lovers, two families that become intertwined in an epic intergalactic struggle that puts the future of two worlds in their hands.
Although the romance and action seems rushed, it works because you feel the very strong magnetic pull between these two lovers, and you generally feel what Palta is feeling, and she takes you on the ride through her emotions and battles both in love and in life.
Through many surprising twists the author kept me in suspense, and even though it meant a lack of sleep, I could not put the book down until I finished it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
I give this book a “Like” and a rating of 4.5 stars.

This book was a really interesting take on a genre that I'm not incredibly familiar with. I'm not much of a Sci-fi reader so for me it was fun to kind of venture out of my reading comfort zone. It had several good points for me. The first thing that I loved was the amount of detail the author put into the book. The descriptions of events and places were extremely vivid. It was well written and didn't have the grammatical errors that so many self-published works are prone to having.
I enjoyed the main character Palta as well as the cast of supporting characters. There were some things that made the book a little less of a WOW factor for me. The main conflict doesn't happen until about midway to 3/4 through the book. A lot of the "action" is exposition so it's not incredibly fast paced. The plot is a little more politically driven and it can be confusing if you don't follow along and ready carefully. Also, the relationship instantly develops with very little interaction which I find a bit unbelievable. It is explained as an intense connection, but I still would have liked to have seen a bit more fleshing out of the interactions between the two.
I did like the alien aspect of the book. I felt the author did a great job explaining the culture and backstory for the characters. It had a great set-up. The follow through was a bit less than what I would have liked but it was setting up for a sequel so I can understand that point. I really hope the pacing is a little faster in the next novel because that would really help the development for the characters and the relationship developing between the heroine and the love interest.
In all, I give Proximity a 3/5 but I have high hopes for the sequel. I think the great concept is there and it will be a great read if it picks up a little more.

Palta is just your average run of the mill doctor extraordinaire... but not really. She is indeed extraordinary but is not at all normal. She is an American born alien, so to speak. Palta and her family are not of this world, but they have come to love Earth as their own. After complications on their home planet, Palta's mom, dad, and sister escaped to planet Earth (Palta came a little later). Palta's family all have abilities, and she has the gift of healing. Although Palta's sister has found love, she has sworn off men due to their very short shelf life compared to her own. But, as a good love story would go, Palta just cannot resist the new guy at work. And this is where the story gets interesting.
Palta is a very strong willed individual and I admired her spunk and character very much. I also loved her sisters character as well. I thought the interaction between Eric and Palta was very cute, but I was not impressed by the insta love thing. Maybe it's just Palta's alien nature but I just was not feeling it at all. Don't get me wrong, I loved their relationship I thought they were perfect together, I just wish they would have taken it a little slower. Instead of falling in love in a matter of a day, maybe given it a week or two. I would ahve liked to see their interest in each other grow over time rather than quickly blossom. Nevertheless, they were adorable.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to the sequel! I will definitely have to check it out because I am so curious as to what is going to happen to the gang. A futuristic story set on planet earth, our heroine is an earth-born alien girl living pretty much in exile with her father and sister. They're similar to humans, except for the pointy ears, orange blood, and extended lifespans/immune systems. Oh, and they can heal people with their life energy.
In this book, we find out that there's war on the home planet, and the king has been assassinated. His heir escapes to earth with his sister, to hunt up Palta's father. But an evil ship follows them, intent on a) killing Aeron, the heir to the throne, and b) delivering a disease that will wipe out humanity and leave earth as a handy Plan B for the bad guy, should he not be able to succeed in winning the war.
Oh, and there are only two ships (not including the old one originally carrying Palta's family to earth) that can jump light speed and make the trip. Unlikely much? And on ALL of planet earth, they manage to 'accidentally' bump into each other? (Not to mention that there was *NO* attraction for Aeron to Palta before he knows who she is, but the moment he finds out, suddenly there's an undeniable draw? That... I had trouble with.
In fact, I had a few problems with this. It wasn't bad, per se, but the glaring holes are more like craters in the plot. Issueful for me.

I picked up this book on an author-giveaway-day on Smashwords. Somehow I forgot that I already had it. Then Kindle had a freebie day and I pick it up there, too. Does that ever happen to you? I look at the cover, it does play into how I feel about a book. Then I read the blurb and about the author. This book must have passed those criteria with flying colors!
After a slow start, getting to know the characters, Proximity took off. I was hooked. From about 60% of the book, I couldn't stop reading. In fact, I was still reading at 5 this morning. Thank goodness for an ending that didn't leave me hanging. Sure there was a few threads that need to be taken care of, but I was left elated which, of course, made me wakeful, wondering how the next bits will be taken care of. (Non-spoiler enough?)
I can't wait for payday so I can get the next book. Thank you M.A. George for writing such a different, kind of story. Oh, and I need to mention how I loved that the characters were very well educated with goals and talents, along with a little romance. Very good!

This is M.A. George’s debut novel and I thoroughly enjoyed each and every page! It is a fast paced, unique love story that mixes in equal parts of romance, paranormal and suspense. I read through this one pretty fast and was sad to see the story end!
I really thought it was refreshing how M.A. spun a very unique storyline and the romance was awesome, I’ve always loved romance books! And it's not one of those mushy love stories, it has adventure and some action to go along with it as well! There's not a boring part in it!
I think this would fall more along the YA genre, but adults will find themselves rooting for Palta as well. The characters were very detailed and developed and Palta is an amazing chick (even if she is an alien!!)
There will be more of Palta and Eric’s story and I really can’t wait. I think she has a bright future in store for her! If you are looking for an easy-to-read weekend book, grab this ASAP!

I won this book in a giveaway competition.
I found this book to be a fast, fun read that started out great, but unfortunately it became too predictable halfway through. I realize this is the first story of a series and that the story may change again.
In Proximity, we meet Palta who has fallen for someone who doesn't even know she exists. We also discovered she isn't who she appears to be, which is a career-oriented doctor. The first half reminded me of Jane Eyre, which is interestingly Palta's favorite novel.
Suddenly an dramatic event happens and everything shifts. It is at this point, the story becomes too familiar. I definitely will be on the lookout for book 2 to see where M.A. George takes this story.
This book is highly recommended for those who enjoy the YA genre, science fiction that emphasizes relationships, and anyone who like romantic stories.

Proximity begins with Palta, who is living on Earth and is a doctor. However she is much more than meets the eye. She was born on Earth of two parents not from Earth. There are a LOT of characters to get to know in this book. But they are done in such a manner that you easily grasp who is who and what their relationship is to Palta.
I loved how this book was a science fiction but was not like your typical over the top filled with scientific information type books. I could easily see each and every character in the book. And it truly did keep me flipping pages to find out what would happen next.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a great romance with a science fiction twist. You will immediately relate to Palta and her love of reading the classics. As for the male character... Trust me you will adore him and everything he does! And considering this is M.A. Georges debut novel I think she did a fabulous job! I give this book 5 stars!!!! Out of this world!!!!

Palta is an alien who feels somewhat alone in life, she has no man because she doesn’t want them to get old without her. Then she meets Eric, whom she is completely drawn to without knowing why. She lives a very quiet life, spending time reading and being with her father and sister. What she doesn’t know is that Eric is hiding a secret too and that the secret will change her very existence. When she saves him from a fire in his lab she discovers that he has the same blood she does. When they finally all come together amazing facts come to light and Palta’s life begins to change.
This is a well written story of aliens who came to earth and live quietly among us. The story makes it so believable, you get drawn into the story immediately. I enjoyed it very much. I would like to thank MA George for the chance to read and review her book. I would recommend it to anyone who likes a good story.

What I liked: I liked how the author marked the differences the aliens of the story have, even if they look human. Palta herself was an interesting character to follow as the story paned out. Seeing her devotion to both her father and her sister was a nice touch and gave something to connect to the character. She even helped Eric as soon as she realized that he wasn't exactly who she thought he was, and that lead to Palta learning things she may never have known otherwise.
What I didn't like: I thought that the feelings between both Palta and Eric were rushed a bit to me, even if I thought their romance was nice. Sometimes
Overall Review: This was a really good story that kept me interested and entertained for a good majority of the story. While it did have a few slow points they really didn't detract too much from the overall flow of the story.
Recommend?: If you like sci-fi and are looking for a new series to start on I suggest that you try this one!

This was an interesting book with a unique idea behind it. I found, however, that there was much more focus on the science fiction back story than the real-time romance or action. The romance, though it created strong connections, was so abrupt that it felt cold and without a tangible base. The characters weren't fleshed out so much as created and plopped into their respective situations, giving a strong science fiction feel, but making the romantic side more discounted. The plot was fun and had it's moments with some great action. However, I felt that the great detail put into the mundane tasks and events slowed the pacing down and away from the real action. Overall an interesting concept and one I would have liked to have seen fleshed out a bit more.

A fast paced, fun read. I really liked Palta, she is so lovable, the plot is very good. I was engrossed until the last page. I do look forward to more in the Proximity series.
