Olivia O’Reilly needed a drink—not a complication. The man at the bar was supposed to be a forgettable distraction. Hot. Charming. Gone without a trace.
Seven months later, Olivia is home for Christmas, pregnant… and staring at Lucas Anderson, two-time Stanley Cup champion, professional hockey star.
And the last man she ever expected to see again.
Snowstorms strand them together. Secrets surface. Chemistry refuses to stay buried. And when one night turns into a lifetime, Olivia and Lucas must decide if they’re brave enough to risk more than just co-parenting.
Because surviving a snowstorm was easy. Falling in love might be the real risk.
An Unexpected Assist is a swoony, spicy hockey romance featuring surprise pregnancy, forced proximity, found family, and a guaranteed happily ever after.
I really enjoyed this book. I liked the writing and thought it was well written, for a one-night stand, surprise pregnancy, close proximity, and hockey romance book. (I've DNF many hockey books because of the horrible writing, total lack of hockey knowledge, immature MCs, awful side characters, etc. Is there a reason why all the wannabe nonwriters write hockey romance?) This book could use tighter editing though as there were some obvious grammatical errors.
I liked both the MCs and thought the side characters were interesting. Olivia (FMC) rightly had issues about Luke (MMC) and his career/fame and maybe if the book was longer, it could have been discussed more in depth? I wish the book was longer as I would have liked to see how their relationship grew as they navigate being a couple and parents as well as having to be apart because of their careers.
Super sweet novella. Luke was the perfect book boyfriend and Olivia was awesome. The only thing that bothered me was her worry about his schedule/fame being brushed off by both Luke and her mom. Those were valid concerns about a relationship/parenting with him, not just her being scared bc he’s shown back up after thinking she was going to be a single mom.
