AAARGH!!!! ANOTHER CLIFF HANGER!!! LOL!!! I've been waiting heavily for this next installment of Van and Skye and it's put me right back on the edge the last book left me hanging on a year ago! When Crane alerted me that her newest book in the Forbidden series had dropped, I knew it would be my first read of the new year. I wish it had been longer than a days read! I love this world and these characters so much!!!
I love Alex Crane's writing style and I love how she develops her stories with such underlying building. I had no idea we were headed into the areas we were and several times my gut just sank as we navigated the new emotional waves of what this story brought. There wasn't a lot going on and there wasn't a lot of action or intensity in this book like the previous, as it felt more like a story that is setting up for the next heavy impact going into book four. I am so excited for a book four. I had thought this would be our finale but it certainly isn't.
Skye having to process so many things on her plate made my heart feel tight for her. I would so much feel the same way she did when she received the news about the newest mystery character brought in to this plot. And Jake, well your heart just shatters for him. Van... oh Van. He's such a loveable character but he's having to deal with so many past decisions over and over but isn't that a huge part of growing into your future.
The past reflections when they were all teens and all met was a lot of fun to read, as well as unraveling some heavy truths. Nina's past and the way everyone came to be was interesting but her choices also showed that she paved the road with pieces of people's hearts that she knowingly was breaking and that was taxing to read. Her choice was so unfortunate and where it lead her and Van would only hurt everyone around her more in the end, and leave them all to deal with the outcome. It was a hard pill to swallow for only a second before the family did what they do best and deal with it unapologetically. Family first after all.
We have some tension that arises in the end, and old Clara comes back to cause even more issues that definitely had me worried, before our final conclusion comes to a head and we are left with some balance in our story. Well... for a minute anyways lol. Yet again we were left on a cliff hanger that I will be waiting on baited breath to claw my way back up from as soon as it drops, and I sure hope it drops soon!! I love this story!!
This wasn't a spicy book. The others definitely had more intimacy. I craved that connection from Van and Skye, and we did get a few little tastes but they were limited. We had a couple of interactions in the book that gave it some spice and they were entertaining and well balanced for the plot we have in book three but this is not a spicy book. The way Van dies get to her was so entertaining in the fact that I can totally relate to being mad at your spouse but them also having the key to your body and your body totally being on their team instead of yours lol. Been there! Lol.
Overall this was another good taste into our developing story for the O'Leary's and their Kingdom that is quickly building and the mew directions and choices they are having to make to do so. I can't wait for the next boom!
