When whispers of a shadowy group begin to surface, Ellie McVey knows she’s chasing more than rumours. The Brethren, an elusive right-wing terror cell, hide behind layers of encrypted chat rooms, plotting assassinations with chilling precision.
As Ellie digs deeper, the digital trail leads her into a world where ideology turns lethal and trust is a luxury she can’t afford. Each message she intercepts reveals a plan more audacious than the last, and soon, the threat isn’t just national, it’s personal.
With time running out and the Brethren growing bolder, Ellie faces an impossible stop them before they strike again, or risk losing someone she loves to their ruthless agenda.
In a race against shadows, every keystroke could be her last hope...or her undoing.
She could go on and on with the Ellie McVey DCI turned Detective Superintendent series. The 11th in the series and it is just as good all the way through. There was a time in this story that reminded me of that movie Untraceable with Diane Lane. As awful as the crimes were, well this is a detective series after all, there were hilarious hijinks involved. This wouldn't be an Elli McVey book without hijinks from Erin's cockblocking to Aggie's Pretty Woman moment in an upscale Beverly Hills boutique. To quote an old time show from Mom and Dad's time... "To the moon (with) Alice."
A mostly entertaining little novella. This is my first entry in the series, but it was easy to figure out who all of the characters were, etc. For such a dark and serious subject, the tone seemed a bit incongruous, and the pacing felt too rushed. I don't say this often, but I would have preferred a longer story that focused more on the terrifying Brethren group, and far less on the "fluff".
So good! Another fantastic installment in the DCI Ellie McVey series, full of suspense and mystery mixed with quirky humor and craziness. But OMG, the next book in the series had better be coming soon.......
