"The Corruption Within" by C.L. Kan is a dark fantasy novel that explores morally complex stories, making it ideal for readers interested in ethical dilemmas and atmospheric worlds. Adam Foreman's descent from pig farmer to man linked to forbidden magic comes across as both monumental and achingly real in Kan's brief but expressive prose, which strikes a balance between gut-wrenching detail and quiet, heartbreaking moments. The narrative voice prioritizes clarity over decoration, yet never loses its atmospheric touch. The Bottoms and the Rim of the World are described with just the right amount of detail to make the threat real, while also leaving room for imagination to fill the caverns. The novel's pacing is spot-on; as Adam struggles with his grief and the corrupting force within him, the tempo shifts from fast, violent passages to calmer, reflective ones, keeping the reader on the edge of their seat and raising the emotional stakes. As usual Bobby Garrison did an excellent job of narration. I would listen to him read the dictionary!
The story was good and I love the struggle to be good. The inner turmoil of fighting evil within when you just want to be a good person. I will say I did see the big reveal of betrayal coming well before we knew the truth.
