“I wish I could speak your words, I truly do, but you don’t need to teach me your words to share them with me. I understand you in different ways. It’s like a language we have all to ourselves. Isn’t that beautiful?”

I had the honor of receiving an ARC of Entombed and what a beautiful, devastating little story this turned out to be.💔
This is a mythic romantic tragedy about the last living dragon and a human, both lonely and misunderstood, who ultimately find their way to each other. This is something I wouldn’t normally read, yet it completely surprised me. It is told in third person and the opening felt like someone softly reading me a bedtime fairy tale.👀 The writing style pulled me in from the very start. It felt lyrical and dreamy and I really loved it.

And then the ending… Ariel N. Anderson knows how to end a book. The ending was utterly heartbreaking and I felt so sad. Not quite Under Your Scars levels of emotional destruction and I didn’t completely sob this time, but it was still deeply achingly sad in a way that stays with you after you close the book.

I’m rating this 3.5/4 stars, though I honestly don’t know exactly how to rate this book. It was SO beautiful and tragic, but it also felt a bit weird sometimes? And for such a short book, it felt somewhat repetitive, especially in the beginning. But I really did enjoy it! I kept wanting to read on and I flew through it!

I think that this is a story that may not fully work for everyone, but one that still manages to leave a mark. 🐉💔

Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC of Entombed!

Rating : 4.5 ⭐

Entombed follows Midas (MMC) and Elowen (FMC), brought together in isolation, where survival, connection, and quiet moments matter more than action. As they spend time together, their bond deepens and both the MMC and FMC go through a really touching emotional evolution.

This is a pretty simple story in terms of plot and action, but I found it really captivating. It’s very easy to read and I flew through it. The tone is overall sad and bittersweet rather than a traditional happily-ever-after, which made it feel even more emotional to me.

I also loved the message behind the story, that we don’t need much to appreciate life, and that being surrounded by people we love can make even the hardest situations meaningful 🖤

Tropes / elements:
🐉 Dragon shifter
🛡️ Protective MMC
🖤 Last of his kind
⚔️ Touch her and die
🦢 Swan Lake retelling
🌙 Forbidden love

I’d recommend this to readers who enjoy emotional, character-driven stories, slower pacing, and bittersweet romances ✨

This book follows the folklore “Swan Lake”. This is a mythic romantic tragedy about the last living dragon and a human, both lonely and misunderstood, who ultimately find their way to each other and this story doesn’t have a HEA.

Ariel has managed to capture the brutality and cruelty of people in power when they are faced with an entity that they don't understand, so perfectly. Whether it poses a threat to them, or not, this read showed to refusal of our kind to co-exist with dragons.

I’m not going to lie; it took a while to get into this story but the writing was so beautifully done and it helped. This is why, I honestly don’t know exactly how to rate this book. It was SO beautiful and tragic, but it also felt a bit weird sometimes? And for such a short book, it felt somewhat repetitive, especially in the beginning. But I really did enjoy it! I kept wanting to read on and I flew through it!

I absolutely loved this book! I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC for this, but will try not to contain any spoilers in this review.

This book follows the folklore “Swan Lake” which is a known ballet to many people, however, I was not really accustomed to this ballet, so I went in this story completely blind, without knowing the story it followed.

This story follows a Dragon, who is still left in the world after humans destroyed them, from long ago. However, he has refuge in a cave near this one village. From this village, there is a woman who goes into the forest, because she is a healer, and collects ingredients to create salves and ointments, etc.

One day, she spots the dragon, and instead of being scared, she is curious, because she knows that dragons should no longer exist. At the same time, the dragon is also curious, because he sees her as a human, who destroyed everything he had ever loved, but yet, she is different.

This story follows along the human, Elowen, and the dragon, as they start to figure more out about each other.

***This book made me laugh, giggle, cry, and made my heart pound so hard, I was ready to go to the ER. I read this book in 6 hours, and wish I could reread it again and again, without knowing the whole story and how it ends ***

Ok, I was not ready for this AT ALL!
First, thank you Ariel N. Anderson for the opportunity to read an advanced reading copy of your book!
I'm not sure what even just happened to me. I went into this book thinking "oh the author says it's a fairytale retelling, no big deal". Um...yeah. Well, in classic Ariel N. Anderson fashion, this was written so beautifully, so fluently, and with its very own characters, tale and twists. I absolutely love the FMC and MMC and all they were to each other. This story has a classic slow burn start and then suddenly I found that I was so absorbed but I didn't even know it. The storyline itself was beautiful and twisting and I didn't see any of it coming. I have no words.
This is not a spicy romance, this is truly a beautifully tragic love story, retold in such a way that I completely forgot what I was reading and got lost in the world created.

Entombed by Ariel N. Anderson
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
ARC READ
RELEASE DATE: FEBRUARY 24th !

I genuinely don’t have the right words to describe Ariel N. Anderson’s writing style — and that might be the highest compliment I can give. There is something about the way she writes that ensnares me almost immediately. It’s immersive without trying too hard. Emotional without being heavy-handed. You don’t just read it — you feel it.

Midas is the last Dragon, left alone after humans wiped out his entire pride. What remains in him is grief sharpened into anger — and a deep, justified hatred for humankind.

Elowen is the black sheep of her village. She lives quietly, bound by suffocating rules that feel more like a prison sentence than protection. With no affection from her only remaining family — her father — she has learned to survive on her own.

When these two cross paths, something unexpected happens. Not chaos. Not destruction.

A friendship.

The emotional rollercoaster in this story is one I would absolutely ride again. Watching two beings from completely different worlds learn how to communicate, how to trust, and how to slowly let their guards down was beautiful to witness. Their connection doesn’t feel rushed — it feels earned.

“I shall love you until long after all the stars in the skies burn out.”

That line alone? Devastating in the best way.

Both Midas and Elowen carry deep scars from their pasts, and seeing them finally experience even a glimpse of true happiness felt incredibly satisfying as a reader. Their love is tender, resilient, and forged through understanding rather than impulse.

The 🌶️ scenes are closed door — which, honestly, I appreciated. Some mysteries are better left to the imagination. 😉

Entombed is a story about grief, prejudice, healing, and choosing love even when history tells you not to. It’s emotional, romantic, and quietly powerful in the way it explores connection between two souls who should have been enemies.

If you love slow-burn bonds, wounded characters, and romance rooted in emotional intimacy, this one deserves a spot on your list.

Thank you to Ariel N. Anderson & team for the advanced digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

A Haunting, Tender Fairy Tale with Bite
Entombed is a lyrical, melancholic retelling of Swan Lake, re imagined as a slow-burn, sort of enemies to lovers romance between Elowen, a gentle healer trapped in a cruel village, and Midas, the last dragon.
This is a story of loneliness, survival, and the fragile trust that blooms between two outcasts, one human, one beast.
I loved Midas his perspective. It was heartbreaking! Surviving a genocide, consumed by grief and fury. His hoarding isn’t just about greed, it’s about clinging to remnants of a world that’s gone. The way he watches Elowen from the shadows, slowly learning to trust. There is a great balance between feral instincts and his yearning for gentleness.
Elowen is the opposite to Midas. Where he is fire and fury, she is water and warmth. Elowen is a very compassionate character. Elowen is as lonely as Midas is due to the nature of the village she lives in. Elowen didn't judge Midas when she meets him, she finds the gorgeousness in his monster.
The lack of open-door sex (despite the heavy themes) works because this isn’t that kind of story. Their connection is built on trust, not lust. The way he shifts for her, brings her food, and hoards things for her is incredibly romantic in a feral, dragon way. Their communication barriers make their bond feel earned.
While the themes are dark the writing style feels more YA than adult. This isn’t a bad thing, but it softens the impact of the grimmer elements. The pacing drags a bit in the middle, with long stretches of Midas watching Elowen or Elowen gathering herbs, which could have been tightened to heighten the tension.
Furthermore I would have loved to know a bit more about the village. Why are they so cruel. Why do they think that softness or kindness is a bad thing. Did something happen in the past that caused this?

"But then Midas roared. It cracked stone. It shook the mountain itself, triggering an avalanche of snow and rocks that sealed the entrance from the world."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Firstly, thank you so much Ariel N. Anderson for letting me reading this early🩷 it was an honor.

Entombed has literally carved itself into my soul. Just thinking about the story brings out so many emotions in me. This is by no means a HEA, so please go into this reading your trigger warnings, as it's a dark read.

Ariel has managed to capture the brutality and cruelty of people in power when they are faced with an entity that they don't understand, so perfectly. Whether it poses a threat to them, or not, this read showed to refusal of our kind to co exist with dragons. Midas, is the last dragon that's left after the humans wiped out their kind. He was written so precisely, with the way he was learning to understand things for Elowen and his kindness despite the humans having aided the extinctions of all dragon kind. My heart felt so full reading his POVs, he was so innocent and gentle.

Elowen was shown disdain from her own village and was treated with cruelty just for interacting with a dragon. Her loyalty towards Midas was unwavering and truly admirable. Her kindness and empathy towards him was portrayed so well. She is one of them best FMCs I've read about. The story hooks you right from the very first page and you just want to know more and more. The writing was so beautifully done, and the plot added on to it and made it the most perfect story ever. Just thinking about it will make me cry, but I think every reader needs to read this atleast once🩷. This love story is truly one to rival the stars.

ARC REVIEW
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️️ (truly ♾️⭐️)
🌶️
*Please check the content warnings before reading.

“You are my treasure, Elowen. My fire. My life. My home.”

Loneliness can take many forms. It can look like a dragon, the last of his kind, who has lived for so long without a soothing word or a gentle touch. It may appear as a human woman, surrounded by people in her village, but who shun her kindness and curiosity, leaving her isolated. Starving for something more. But what happens when the dragon and the woman meet, and choose each other, again and again? And isn’t it better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all?

Y’all, I had no idea how much this book was going to wrap itself around my heart. It made me feel all the feels. Our FMC, Elowen, is the epitome of how much kindness, care, and listening can really mean to someone else. Our dragon MMC, Midas, is protective, thoughtful, and has a love that burns deeply. Oh, and he can shift into a human form, but not without a cost. This book is beautiful, touching, and devastating. A word of caution: Entombed does not have a HEA. That said, the ending doesn’t negate the hope, the tenderness, and the healing throughout the whole book. And I’ll never stop thinking about this story because of it. Thank you so much, Ariel, for the absolute gift that is Entombed. 🖤

Entombed is a standalone and releases on February 24. Where all my dragon girlies at?! 🔥

Thank you to Ariel for the e-ARC in change for an honest review!

A mythic romantic tragedy… and yes, it truly is a tragedy. No HEA. Ariel warned us — and it still hurt.

Entombed is a short story, but it hits hard. It starts a bit slow, and I found myself wondering where it was headed… and then it lands. And when it does, it leaves a mark.

Elowen has grown up beneath the cruelty of a village where compassion is weakness and dragons are nothing more than forgotten history. Hidden deep within the mountain is Midas, the last dragon — forged in fire and war, carrying a heavy disdain for humanity. What unfolds between them is an unlikely, tender love story rooted in a shared desire: to be chosen.

This fantasy retelling of Swan Lake explores brutal themes — power imbalances, prejudice, and the cost of hatred. It’s soft and fierce all at once. Watching a hardened beast learn to love gently was beautiful… and devastating. Because love, no matter how pure, is not always enough to protect against cruelty.

Ariel really is after my heart. While UYS is still my favorite, Entombed is a haunting reminder that not all love stories are meant to survive — some are meant to endure in memory.

Bittersweet, poetic, and painful in the best way.

This book truly rocked me.It reads like a fairytale with the promises of whimsy but with the undercurrent of tragedy and despair.

It a word no longer welcoming of dragons there is one left, who for years has been in solitude with hate and fear festering until he finally meets kindness and acceptance.

The way Ariel n Anderson dived into how people would rather have hatred in their heart for people or in this case dragons be stronger than just getting to an understanding of differences was fascinating.it had so many conversations on how if you are not who people accept or think is right you should not exist and that hit home.

Midas and elowen are truly beautiful together, they understand that you do not have to look the same, speak the same or even be the same to co exist and have love for one another. The way they have these conversations on how nothing is more power than love if you refuse to let it be was beautiful.

However this is a grim fairytale so there is hatred, and fear and anger so it is hard to digest. However I truly think this is a book everyone can get something from whether that’s a lesson to just be kind or a reminder that love is beautiful and nothing is stronger than that.

Thank you Ariel N Anderson for this arc copy in exchange for an honest review!

I’ll be honest…going in, I was expecting a faster paced, action forward story, and because of that, it took me a bit to fully sink into the world and the rhythm of the narrative. But once I adjusted my expectations, I realized this wasn’t meant to be rushed. This is a story meant to be felt.

At its core, Entombed is a truly beautiful piece of literature that explores the struggles we face as humans every single day. It examines how hate can so easily outshine understanding, how fear often replaces love when we’re confronted with things(or people) we don’t understand. The themes are heavy, raw, and painfully relevant.

This is a tragic romance in every sense of the word, and in true Ariel fashion, it is absolutely heartbreaking. The emotional depth cuts deep, and by the end, I was left emotionally devastated and completely wrecked. Not just sad but reflective. This book made me think about the world, about empathy, and about how we treat others when compassion should be our first instinct.

While it may not be what I initially expected, Entombed is a powerful, moving story and I hope it changes the hearts of every reader.

Huge thanks to Ariel N. Anderson for providing an early copy in exchange for an honest review.

Entombed is a haunting, lyrical reimagining of Swan Lake that trades feathers for scales. In a world scarred by the dragon wars, Midas stands as the last dragon; ancient, furious, and hollowed out by loss. Across from him is Elowen, the only gentle-souled human, carrying a kindness that feels almost anachronistic after humanity’s cruelty wiped dragons from the world.

The heart of the story lies in watching rage learn tenderness. Midas’s journey isn’t about being redeemed by love so much as learning how to love without destroying what he touches. Elowen, quiet but resilient, becomes the still point in a brutal landscape, and their bond echoes the doomed romance of Swan Lake in a way that feels both familiar and freshly tragic.

The prose leans elegant and mournful, and the atmosphere is thick with inevitability. While the ending lands in tragedy, it’s a restrained sorrow; aching, not annihilating. It doesn’t quite reach the gut-wrenching devastation of Under Your Scars, but that may be a strength. Entombed lingers instead, like a final breath held too long, reminding us that love can be gentle and still fail to save us.

Thank you to the author for the ARC ❤️

I just finished an advanced reader’s copy of Entombed by Ariel Anderson

Entombed, by Ariel N. Anderson is a deeply emotional, story that will immediately capture your heart. I was instantly immersed in Elowen and Midas’s story. The writing is so beautifully done and emotional, yet it's the instant connection to the characters that kept me reading. You don't just read about the characters; you fall in love with them and their bond immediately

Elowen, the healer’s daughter who forages daily in the woods captures the eye and curiosity of a dragon, Midas.

Midas, the last dragon that remains of his family and race has a deep prejudice against humanity; begins to feel a warmth stir in his heart for Elowen.

This a poignant fantasy romance about two broken souls—a human and a dragon—who find sanctuary in each other and fall in love.

In an Ariel Anderson fashion, it was absolutely heartbreaking in the end… grab your tissues. It will definitely make you sob, but it is absolutely worth reading.

Let me just say… Ariel knows how to write tragedy.
This book was a beautiful, devastating story that completely wrapped itself around my heart.

We have Midas, a dragon shifter, and Elowen, who is human. Both are deeply misunderstood in their own ways, carrying loneliness and pain that the world never quite sees. When they find each other in the woods and form an unexpected friendship, something quiet and powerful begins to grow between them.

This story felt emotional, raw, and hauntingly tender. It’s the kind of book that slowly pulls you in and then leaves you sitting with your feelings. Tragic, yes, but also meaningful and beautifully written.

If you love emotional fantasy with depth, heartbreak, and unforgettable characters, this is one to experience.

This book had me on a roller coaster of emotions. Ariel painted such a vivid scene of the life of the dragons before the hatred of the humans nearly wiped them out. Then with Elowen, how she showed in a society full of such hatred and greed, that there can still be kindness in the world.

Watching the love develop between Elowen and Midas made my heart full in a way I needed so much right now.

She perfectly captured the love of a mother and the protection of a father, regardless of form, when it came to the protection of Kalen and Auric.

I will say, in our current times of being disappointed in humanity over and over again each day, that this book left me with even more anger for the pure hatred so many humans carry just because something is different from them. Instead of using fear to learn, so many turn fear and unknown into hate.

I would give this book 10 stars if I could!

ARC REVIEW ✨ I was lucky enough to receive an EARC version of Entombed on 4th Feb and had to start it straight away. Despite still feeling vulnerable from Under your Scars I couldn’t stop myself devouring this masterpiece.
I have never read anything like this before and it was absolutely perfect, I felt the story deep in my heart from every single page. While tragic, this story is beautiful and explores so many emotions tied to love and tragedy.
I don’t think I’m going to recover from this any time soon (In the best way), I loved the love story and I loved reading a book with no on page sexual content because I usually skip “smut” scenes.
This is such a beautiful story, a true masterpiece by Ariel N Anderson 🤍

Ariel has done it again!!! She is the queen of a tragic love story and this one hit the mark for all the right reasons.

This story follows the last dragon left on earth after his kind faced a horrific fate. He was alone and was taught to fear and hate everything. Until something changed his perspective.

This story has found family, tragic love, protection at all costs, and so much more.

This story tells a tale of how some types of love are feared and not accepted, but all that matters in the end is family.

Some favorite quotes from the story are:

“I would burn the sky, the moon, and the stars before I let them touch you”

“I suppose in our bliss I forgot that the gentle dragon I fell in love with would burn the world for me”

✨Entombed✨
Dark, suffocating, and beautifully devastating—this story aches your soul without breaking it.

It was a slower-paced read for me, yet still a quick one. Ariel N. Anderson’s writing is intentional, cruel, and precise, and that’s what makes her style so intoxicating.

🐉 Swan Lake retelling
🐉 Suffocating atmosphere
🐉 Morally grey to the core
🐉 Slow-burn tension that hurts
🐉 No HEA—only consequences

This book exposes the cruelty of those in power, especially when fear and ignorance rule them. And it reminds us that love can bind the most unlikely souls together—strong enough to make you burn the world down to protect them.

Thank you so much, Ariel, for trusting me with an ARC of this story—it truly felt like a privilege to read.

Ariel has done it once again. Shattered my heart into a million pieces with another book! But honestly? I would read every single thing she writes because her books are so worth this feeling!

I feel so lucky to have read this amazingly heartbreaking and beautiful book early. Thank you from the bottom of my heart🫶🏻

I’ve had to wait to write this review because I was seriously broken after finishing this book😅 I may or may not have cried myself to sleep after finishing it!

When I tell you I cried through the whole thing.. I am not lying. I wanted to devour it but I was so scared because I knew that something devastating was coming.

The way this book reflects loneliness and finding your person is just incredible.

My honest ARC review.

I was a beta reader for this but didn’t really know in which direction this book was going to go until I actually received my arc copy. *spoiler alert* it’s a non HEA and there’s no spice. It’s rare for me to enjoy a book where there’s no smut involved but I actually wanted to keep reading this. There were so many instances throughout the story line where I felt like ok this is it what could go wrong. And bam! I loved Midas’s fierce protectiveness over Elowen. The way they both loved each other without prejudice, just two beings who defied the odds on their love and what it looks like to truly love someone. Idk if Ariel has a kink for hurting her readers but it sure does feel like it. And I guess I’m a masochist because I keep coming back for more.

"The last dragon lived alone for nearly a century"

In Entombed we meet Elowen, a kind, loving misunderstood FMC who later stumbles upon our Dragon shifter MMC, later named Midas. Both curious about one another, they gradually learn about the other and thus their relationship starts to take baby steps.

"Dragons were not meant to be lonely creatures"

This beautiful, tragic story shows what happens when two misunderstood beings choose each other, time and again. For its better to have lived and loved than to live and not love at all.

"It cracked the stone. It shook the mountain itself, triggering an avalanche of snow and rocks that sealed the entrance from the world"

*Received as an ARC from the Author*

I'm truly at a loss for words with this book.
This book follows a dragon, the last of his kind and a sweet gentle human girl. His kind were hunted down by humans till he was all that was left. For a long time he despised humans till one day he comes across a gentle kind human girl who slowly shows him not ALL humans are savages. Elowen and the dragons love story is absolutely beautiful. Entombed sent me on a roller-coaster of feelings I was not at all prepared for... Sad, curious, happy, giggly, then suspicious, then angry, sad, and finally utterly heartbroken... I enjoyed this book so much and I'm so thankful for the opportunity to read it.

I had no idea where this book was gonna take me but man did I LOVE IT!

I have honestly never read a book like this but I really really enjoyed! It a dragon shifter romance which is totally new to me but the things that are in the book are DEEP.

When they talk about miscarriages this had me crying so hard because so many woman have gone through this and it was so beautiful to see the mmc really being there for her and making sure she's okay. Only Ariel Anderson could make me cry while reading a dragon shifter book but damn this was heartbreaking.

That ending though..... OMG. It was beautiful but also so so sad! I'm happy that he got his family but he didn't have them for long! GAHHH. But I highly recommend this beautiful book if you enjoy crying and having your heart broken and then kinda put back together.

Another beautiful story by Ariel Anderson. <3

🌶️ Spice: 0.25/5 (off page)

This story is one of the last dragon, and a human who does not agree with the cruelty of her own kind.

This book was wholesome 🥰 magical 🐉 and sad 💔 It is an easy, short read although at times was repetitive. I struggled with the first couple of chapters but in the end I am partial to a hard exterior gooey centre black dragon 🖤🥰 (can I pet that dawg?).

Thank you Ariel for having me in the ARC team for Entombed! 🖤

4.5 🌟

I’m going to try to be as spoiler free as possible.
This was SO good. I knew very little going into it. The romance was so good, and tbh I’m grateful there was no smut. It didn’t need it and I feel like it would have skewed my rating a bit.
Very unlike anything I’ve read. It gives you all the emotions and absolutely rips your heart out 😭😭 It is a slower paced book so keep that in mind.
The writing was beautiful and I loved the time you got to learn each character. This was my first book by Ariel and I’m excited (but also very, very scared) to read more from her!

Will definitely be getting a shelf trophy when it comes out (On my birthday!!)

I read this book in literally one sitting, I loved it.
What can I say, Ariel Anderson has done it again. The writing was absolutely beautiful! It’s a “retelling” of the ballet Swan Lake but I’m not super familiar with that story, so I dived in with a fresh mind.
Fell in love with both of the main characters immediately. I might never recover fully, but in such a good way!

Received an ARC for this book, and it was absolutely poetic and heartbreaking. Ariel N. Anderson has done it again by creating such a tragically beautiful love story that you feel in your bones. I don't want to give too much away, so I'll keep it vague. A classic tale of a beauty and the beast respun as a dragon and a villager, where only true love softens the beast and gives him the love and peace he so desperately desires. And a tale that proves all the riches in the world are materialistic, that the only true treasure in the world are those you love that love you back.
