Crowned by Five Kings

Rate this book
The demons stole me.

This time, they didn’t want an auction.

They wanted a queen.

Ripped from my mates and imprisoned in Hell, I discover the most dangerous truth of all—the Prince of Hell isn’t my enemy.

He’s my mate.

The sixth bond ignites as the supernatural world fractures. My dragon mate is unbonded and furious. The vampire sharpens his hunger. The fae courts whisper prophecy and war.

And Hell is done waiting.

I was sold once as a prize.
I won’t be claimed again.

If they want a war, I’ll give them one.
If they want a crown, they’ll bleed for it.

Because I’m no longer human.
No longer helpless.
And no longer willing to choose between monsters.

Crowned by Five Kings is the explosive finale of the Winter Solstice Mates series—a dark, spicy monster reverse harem featuring fated mates, a demon prince, supernatural war, and a heroine powerful enough to rule five kings… or burn their realms to ash.

Read Book 1, Claimed at the Monster’s Auction, first.

Perfect for readers who love Lola Glass, Eva Chase, and J. Bree, this series delivers fated mates, possessive monsters, a supernatural auction, morally gray heroes, and a heroine finally claiming the terrifying power she was never meant to wield.

I’m honestly, so conflicted about this trilogy.
I liked it for the most part.
It was entertaining, and I liked the growth that happened with all of the characters.
But there were a lot of glaring problems that set off alarm bells.
Like, I appreciated that Ivy ended up dismantling, and fully replacing the ‘Syndicate’. But, I’m a little concerned that she completely gave up on ever speaking to her friends again in what basically amounts to a blink of an eye.
I also didn’t love the tense shifts between intimate moments and the rest of the books. It was strange and became increasingly noticeable throughout the series.
And really, I just wasn’t completely sold on every one of the relationships.
Brukk was the most stable, and the relationship that developed the best, and I was 100% on board with his relationship with Ivy.
I also really like Tian’s relationship with her. In the beginning, at least. His whole character changed after that though and the relationship just kind of plummeted with his personality shift.
The rest of them…ranged from kind of ‘meh’, to straight up confusing.

It was an entertaining trilogy. I actually finished it without the ‘break’ followed by the, previously inevitable, DNF.
So. I’d say that says something about how it kept my attention.
I just probably won’t be seeking out anything else by this author.

This book was the most frustrating book of the series. She gets mad at Azriel for kidnapping her and running the human trafficking rings. She’s holding this against him when her other 5 mates also kidnapped her and were at the auction to buy women and have bought women previously. She never once got mad at them or discussed their disgusting behavior in going and buying women at those auctions. (It was discussed multiple times in the first book that they bought women but it was “okay” because they let them go after they were “done” with them)The hypocrisy is astounding. I don’t care if she thinks they “saved” her from the auction. Their reasoning for being there doesn’t override that. And if that does affect how she sees them, then she shouldn’t look at Azriel in that light either.

DNF 65%

It’s not a bad book but this series has a lot of plot holes and is just not working for me everything quickly flipped on the dime and I don’t think it was transitioned well with readers like me.

We don't like baking anymore, and also no longer care about our friends from book 1, but such is life.

Okay so I know how crazy it may seem to some that I finished the other 2 books in the series only to stop halfway through on this one, but it is what it is.

Now let’s get into it overall I’d give this series 3.5 stars and this book especially. I won’t lie i DNF’d at like 50% or so I just couldn’t take it anymore. And I know when I read spoilers and people don’t say why they didn’t like something is annoying so I’ll explain.

But first the things I did enjoy: I liked the premise of the book, I thought the storyline was interesting and I know people talk about how the female character being the chosen one or whatever is overdone but I often enjoy that trope so I’ll never complain. I even enjoyed the dynamic with her mates, I thought they were distinct in their own ways and to some extent how they treat her because of the bond and everything which I thought was sweet.

However, onto the bad stuff: I don’t like the pace of the story in moments it felt rather slow and then boom a bunch of shit is happening or it’d just be random conflict. Not only that but my biggest pet peeve is people who are hypocritical and I felt like the FMC is a big one and I say this because of how she thinks of her bond with Azriel. Now don’t get me wrong I wholeheartedly believe trafficking is messed up and think it’s fully wrong no matter any justifications. But her whole reason for disliking him is that he took her away from people she loves against her will and all that. But can we talk about the fact that her other mate, the dragon who I believe is name is Deacon and his parents are literally part of the same people who work with Azriel in this organization. On top of that every single one of her mates were literally at this underground place where this auction was going on and had been there in the past and yet she loves them but despises this man when they LITERALLY did the same exact thing the only difference was that they tried to somewhat court her and didn’t call her a product to her face. I mean seriously it’s ridiculous. Plus don’t get me wrong I love an HEA and how loved up people are in relationships but I feel like every single one went wayyy too fast like 2-3 days into her week with each one and boom she’s in love. I just can’t. Nevermind the fact that Azriel does a complete 180 and she flip flops back and forth one minute she’s a queen and a badass and all bow down to me and do what I say I have all the power type stuff and the next her hands are shaking and she’s internally freaking out. Like I get having moments of anxiety or something but it just didn’t feel consistent like there was no build up it was wishy washy, off and on and I didn’t vibe with that.

All in all not terrible and the story is intriguing so if you think you’d like it definitely give it a read, who knows maybe it’ll end up being a favorite of yours.

3 ⭐️

If this was not a part of a series, I think I would be rating this higher. However, to be the third book in the series, I felt somehow it had a vastly different feel than the previous two. There was significantly more focus on the fantasy elements in this one than the previous and those elements didn’t seem to make a lot of sense given the foundation established in the first novel. Like we went from normal person to mated dragon queen, too big of a jump without enough context.
Also, the dynamic and even just overall descriptions with mates seemed to shift significantly. Tian specifically seemed to have such a shift from the first novel to the third. While the concept of multiple mates is incredibly enticing, I don’t think it ended up coming together as nicely as I would have hoped. Ultimately, still a good book but I just have major issues with this one, especially considering how much I loved the first book in the series.

This was good but mostly very anticlimactic?? I’m trying to figure out what the point of this whole series is because it was gearing up to this big war and it absolutely did not really amount to much of anything?

You’re really going to tell me that’s how the dragon king and princes of hell deal with what was thrown their way? No further attempts, no consequences other than what was done? Highly suspicious honestly.

I actually started feeling bad for Azriel here and I don’t think this book needed to be this length given what actually happens which is quite frankly not much?

It was good enough to finish but I don’t know that this needed to be a trilogy? Also what happens with her human friends? We just never go back and call it a day I guess lol.

Needs Editing

This got very complicated. 5 mates is already a bit of a stretch. Because you can't have enough of an emotional depth and growth with each character. So it's a harder balancing act that I don't think was captured here. And it was only made worse by adding a sixth one. That's just a purse, personal opinion and things that I've seen already in other books/series.

And as for reading it, it was not as captivating as the first one or as interesting as the second one. But it did wrap up the story. There were some errors, not a lot of imagery to describe what was going on, and there was odd misplaced page breaks when the scene was still going.

6 mates is too much. The story got kind of convoluted and not everything made sense. I liked Azriel, but his character transformation was pretty abrupt. So was Ivys honestly. Is she never going to tell her human friends that she is okay? Or even think about them again? And why is she never mad that the original five MMCs were at an auction to buy people? Even in their internal monologues the men are like "trafficking in people is disgusting, Azriel is the worst" But they were all there as CUSTOMERS. This series was just okay, probably could have benefited from another draft or two. Actually with some aggressive editing it could have been just one, much better, book.

The concluding book in the Winter Solstice Mates had everything you could possible want, a surprise mate, the threat of war and one woman who transforms into something new and sorts it all, while being supported by her mates. Throw in some family upsets, to engage you in the story.
And it all ends on a sex filled happy ever after, with a surprise!.

A Fitting End To The Series

Five powerful supernatural mates and something that’s “other”. Plus a prophecy that’s been manipulated and redacted for centuries allowing different interpretations. Ivy isn’t just a fated mate, she’s The Bridge between realms, she was minutes away from reuniting with her fifth mate when things got really complicated.

That complication was quite a revelation to Ivy and all of her mates.

A good resolution to the series.

unexpected

The second book wasn’t as good as it could have been. This book was better than I expected. There are some confusing random switches between past and present tense, sometimes within the same sentence.
There’s also the feeling that the story isn’t quite finished. I haven’t decided yet if I will continue to read more books by this author. I am happy that I read this trilogy.

was a good start

This was a decent story but I really wish we would of seen more real personalities progress in the bonding period the first book was off to a decent start and then we didn’t really see any bonding between mates after that it also seemed to become far to logical in the end not really a story but a math assignment lol I believe this author has true potential but could use a bit more work in the finished books

When the world around them began to fall Ivy was forged into the bridge. The Christy between her and her mates is off the charts fun all the while, Ivy becomes. I love that she’s strong and up for the challenge. No whining from this heroine. She steps right up and owes her place.

The one thing I'm super disappointed about is that we never saw Ivy go back to her old job to at least let her friends know she is alive.

Otherwise, I enjoyed the series. There was enough movement and explanation that I didn't leave not knowing what happened. It felt a bit anticlimactic but that's not necessarily a bad thing since the prophecy said as much.

A mind bending concept

I’ve now read all 3 books and none of them disappoint. The characters are raw in an amazing way. Ivy herself is the glue that binds them all. There’s a lot of action ranging from war to love. Always love in its various presentations.
I definitely recommend this book to everyone.

The ending? So good it honestly made the whole journey worth it on its own. I loved how everything came together in the final act the threads, the tension, and then that payoff when they all unite. 🩷

It felt earned, not rushed, and I was completely hooked the whole way through. Definitely one of those reads where the ending sticks with you after you finish.

Despite the poorly-written and possibly unedited final product (as someone else said, it almost seems like it was written by AI), this series has allowed me to vicariously live my dream of being the meat in a supernatural manwich. Loved the characters, loved the story itself, just badly executed.

So this started put strong! But when they started adding technical scrap and applying it like it was! It became a tad annoying! I didn't understand some of it others that I did. Kinda felt a bit weird. Storyline was great though!

Good ending

This book came to a satisfactory conclusion. I liked the first book the best, I felt the FMC lost a bit of her character that she had in the first book but it was still enjoyable. I liked the epilogue and the HEA
