Everyone has a past. Some are buried. Some come back armed. Some will use you without remorse.

Betsy Peyton, owner of Peyton Automotives, has fought hard to live by grit, loyalty, and determination—traits inherited from her late father, an FBI agent killed in the line of duty. She’s made it her mission to protect the people in her life, but trouble has a way of finding her. And trust doesn’t come easy anymore.

DEA agent Cain Connery returns to his hometown hoping for time to make some life decisions. Instead, he’s pulled into a growing local drug problem and asked to advise the police. Worse, a trusted undercover agent warns him to stay away from Betsy—suggesting she may be closer to danger than she realizes.

When vandalism escalates into threats and a murder, Cain realizes someone wants Betsy scared. Isolated. Controlled. And they know exactly how to use her past against her.

With danger closing in and trust under siege, Betsy must decide whether to believe the man sworn to protect her—or the evidence designed to destroy him.

The threat isn’t just professional. It’s personal. And it’s already inside her world.

Chased by Memories is the second book in the The Agent's Legacy series. The complex relationship between Betsy Peyton and Cain Connery is the driving force in this romantic suspense novel. It skillfully explores the challenges of rekindling romance amid crime and suspicion and trust under pressure. The narrative creates a fast-paced and engaging experience from start to finish. Each chapter is impactful making the story addictive and compelling. With intense character development, high stakes, and a love story, Chased by Memories is an enthralling and gripping read.

From the beginning, the connection between Betsy, the determined owner of Peyton Automotives, and Cain, a veteran DEA agent returning to his hometown, is filled with tension. Betsy, who has fought hard to live independently and values loyalty deeply, sees Cain's return not as an opportunity for romance but as a threat to her carefully built stability. Her past, marked by loss and betrayal, has made it difficult for her to trust. She is reluctant to rekindle a romance with a childhood friend, emphasizing her independence and focus on her business. Cain, meanwhile, finds himself managing two responsibilities: addressing a growing local drug problem and, unexpectedly, acting as Betsy's protector. His initial doubts, influenced by external factors, create a clear barrier between them. He feels compelled to keep her safe despite the danger, revealing his protective nature and awakening hidden feelings. However, he struggles to balance his professional responsibilities with his emerging emotions. The author’s skill shines through Betsy and Cain as they confront their assumptions and past wounds amid escalating external threats: acts of vandalism, threats, and eventually murder compel the characters to lower their defenses. There is a challenge of trusting someone, especially for a woman who has learned to be cautious and mistrustful. Cain’s steadfast commitment to Betsy’s safety, even when she doubts him, gradually breaks down her walls. Betsy’s courage and independence, even in the face of fear, earn Cain’s respect and strengthen his resolve. Their bond is a slow burn, created through rising threats and shared vulnerability. External pressures can either destroy or reinforce a relationship. Betsy and Cain’s connection is deeply intertwined with the central mystery. Their struggle to trust, communicate, and protect one another from an enemy who exploits their past makes their eventual union feel both inevitable and satisfying. Shelton crafts a relationship as thrilling as the main plot, leaving readers fully invested in their future together.

Chased by Memories is book two in the Agent's Legacy Series by Claudia Shelton. Betsy Peyton only wanted to make Peyton Automotives a safe and thriving business and did not want to rekindle a romance with a childhood friend. However, this did not happen when DEA agent Cain Connery returned, and strange things began to happen around her. Unbeknownst to both Cain and Betsy, their past will collide. Readers of Chased by Memories will continue to follow Cain Connery and Betsy Peyton as they discover what happens.

Chased by Memories is an excellent read, and I was engaged with the plot from the first page. I love the way Claudia Shelton incorporated the twist at the end of this book that I did not expect. This book also highlights for me the issues that affect law enforcement officers who work undercover. I like the way Claudia Shelton emphasises the importance of having automobile centres with after-hours service in areas affected by snow.

Chased by Memories is well-written and well-researched by Claudia Shelton. I love Claudia Shelton's writing style and the way she portrays her characters and their interactions throughout this book. I feel part of the book's setting because of the way Claudia Shelton describes them.

Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I recommend this book.

Betsy Peyton owns Peyton Automotive which she inherited. She has worked hard to make the business successful. Her late father was a FBI agent who was shot and killed while on the job. She is trying protect those around her. Betsy was married for a time and planned to divorce her husband, but he was killed before that could happen.
DEA agent Cain Connery returns home to decide his future after a horrible experience. He also wants to renovate his father's house so he can sell it. He and Betsy were friends in the past before he left town. It looks like Betsy may need Cain's help after her business is vandalized and a murder takes place. Is this due to the drug problem that seems to be escalating in the area or are there more sinister plans behind it all?
Betsy and Cain are pitted against each other for a time and don't know who to trust. Can they come to together to help solve all the issues?
This novel is certainly action packed. I am amazed at all the research the author must have done to make everything feel authentic. Besides heart pounding suspense there is a friends to lovers romance.
I have read other books by Claudia Shelton and am always entertained. CHASED BY MEMORIES is another great addition to her body of work. Thanks to the author for providing me this book to read and review.

Betsy Peyton is one of three girls. She was married but her husband was doing drugs and she planned to divorce him but he was killed first. She is ninety five percent owners of Peyton’s Automotive giving to her by her father in law. Cain Connery grew up in Crayton but is an undercover agent for the DEA. He is fixing is father’s house up to sell it. He gets pulled into the investigation into the drug scene in town. Cain believes Betsy may be involved when he receives a note from an undercover agent. Betsy gets pictures that make it look like Cain is involved in drugs. Then her dealership is vandalized, her home is ransacked and a dead body is found in the dumpster. Cain will keep her safe no matter who it’s from.
Second chances. Suspense. Friends to lovers. Cain is protective and doesn’t know if he’ll stay an agent or retire. Betsy is brave and independent. I voluntarily read and reviewed this from Netgalley.

*This was a good story. They never mention the third sister in the first book. They also call her Amber at first and then the rest of the time she’s Summer. At the very end of the book, it’s says Amber’s story is the next in the series. That drove me crazy! So hopefully they will fix all the mistakes before publishing. *

The one thing I can say about this story is action! Right from the start. The little town of Crayton is having a very rough time with overdoses, drug dealers and trying to find the guys behind it all.
Cain Calloway grew up in Crayton, and was very happy to live his DEA life other places. He has been undercover off and on for years, and his boss suggested he take a few weeks leave to take care of packing and selling his fathers property, and helping out with the drug running with the local Sheriff.
Betsy Peyton is the owner operator of a garage and car dealership, and went to school with Cain. Her business is doing well, and she’s not too thrilled with Cain being back in town. They are like star crossed lovers, that just can’t seem to settle into a relationship. Not for lack of trying on Cain’s part.
I lost track of who I thought was good and bad, but Betsy had a strong family all working to keep her safe.
The twists and turns keep you guessing till the last chapter, and thank goodness Cain and Betsy have their HEA.
Takes a lot of danger to get to it. Great romantic suspense.

This was a new author to me in the romantic suspense genre. The storyline quickly grabbed my attention and was immediately sprinkled with intrigue. You get a fairly good idea early on of who may be behind the crimes, but the story fills in many more details as it wraps up. Overall, it was an engaging read and I look forward to reading the other books in the series.

This is a good book.
I read a wide range of genres always looking for stories skillfully enough told to draw me into them from the very beginning, and then manage to hold my interest throughout. This is one of those stories.
I received an ARC copy of this book from the author and am under no obligation to review it.

This book is a good suspense read with plenty of twists to keep you guessing. While some parts felt a bit long-winded, it’s an enjoyable plot that kept me engaged.
A new author for me, who I will read more of and although it’s the second book in the series, it can be read as a standalone.
Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys a blend of suspense and love stories.
