Good story, but......

Too many inconsistencies e.g. at the end of book 4, Lana hurries off with the messenger. But at the start of book 5 Lana is now in the carriage with Silas. That's just the beginning. The Ball is a nightmare. The two scarecrows guarding the office change to being different ones than are stated earlier. At one point the Noble's are fleeing the ballroom by the exits after being told the ball is over. Then later they are told to remain in the ballroom or leave via the front door, which incidentally Silas had locked earlier. At the end of chapter 4 Percival leaves the house. Yet chapter 5 has him walking with Silas again.....

I wish I could fix this

I've just read all five books back to back. The author is genuinely talented. Some of the character interactions are *chef's kiss*. This is lost in the glaring and repeated continuity issues. I don't know how it got this way (multiple authors? long windows between writing sessions? AI?)

Example: STOP HERE TO AVOID SPOILERS - One character is a flesh golem that starts out with literal butchering tools as hands (It was a big deal including later depictions of how delicately they could work with only those tools as hands.) and by the end they are merely holding a cleaver. Did something happen to change their physicality? It's never addressed so it feels like the author forgot.

There's stuff like this all through the books as well as the same general scene written multiple different ways but with different details and sometimes different outcomes. It's crazy making.

It ended a bit anticlimactic but you know what? It was a good book. There were so many good moments and terrifying moments. Moments I thought would be the end of Silas or someone equally important. While some characters were lost and their ending heartbreaking, there arent huge major deaths. Im so happy how certain things played out. I cant give spoilers because its a shock factor. Im surprised at how fast everything moved considering it took 4 books to get to the meat of the plot. For everything to be revealed yet there are still some mysteries. Im good with how this ended. Silas has the family he always wanted even if they are a bit strange. I hope Silas and Lana live long happy lived with whatever kids they have. My only complaint is there wasnt a years later ending. I would have loved to see how everyone was doing.

continuity issues

I was looking forward to finishing this series and have overlooked oddities of continuity in previous books. However, in this book there are blatant issues. Multiple times I had to go back and reread large chunks of story to understand what was I was missing, only to realize nothing had been written. Having the same chapter twice, but numbered differently, was very confusing. It also felt as if the story became too large for the author. Enjoyable characters and plot lines were entirely dropped and never spoken of again. This final book left me disappointed in a series I had previously enjoyed.

Be gentle with this

Presumably if you’re reading book 5 you’re somewhat invested in the story. As a final book it does a fine job of bringing things to a suitable conclusion so be a little generous with it as there are many good things in here.
What’s a little frustrating is that a decent proofreading would have picked out a number of continuity errors here. But ignore them am and it is an enjoyable read.

missing chapter 28

Preordered this book because I really enjoy the series. I will happily change my rating when I get a chapter 28. Chapter 27 and 28 were the same. At first I thought I had gone backwards somehow. Then chapter 29 starts and makes no sense because it continues after whatever the true events of chapter 28 are.

A good resolution.

I really enjoyed reading this book and series. I'm sad to see it end. These are some of my favorite characters. The book was funny and engaging. Once I started reading I couldn't stop. The story and characters were incredibly interesting and entertaining. This book and series are definitely worth checking out.

fabulous…

I just so enjoyed the whole ride. Simple but deep, frustrating and funny. A soft and warm end that for all us fantasists was beautifully completed.

Thank You for the journey.

Good book.

Great series of books, quite a good amount of character development, Good villains could have told a little more about his mother and his father.
